Husky Updates
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, the good news is that I'm back to my original hours and work. So there was no additional hour cuts or unpaid furloughs. As for overtime.... that is a great example of double speak, something I've found my employer is wonderful at. So yeah, since the end of the year and winter are coming up, they want overtime to be eliminated unless it is absolutely necessary (I work for an environmental testing laboratory, so when the environment shuts down during the winter, so does a good portion of our work). However, they don't want to hire any new people for the team I work on and we don't have enough people working weekends to meet the quotas they have set. So we are now required to work an additional 8 hour shift about every month in addition to our normal schedule that week. So yeah, no overtime, but you are required to work mandatory overtime, but it isn't mandatory because that is illegal and violates labor laws o_O.So yeah, if anyone understands that, I'll be impressed. Also just learned that our token black guy got terminated for trying to fix the B.S. that was going on between him and his boss (like his boss blaming him for not working on assignments that he wasn't told about or working on non-priority work that he was told was priority by his boss). I mean, this guy easily put 70 hours of work each week, was a hard worker, and was paid jack shit (like the rest of us). So after being overworked, not appreciated and taken advantage of, he was unceremoniously terminated over one email (and the email was just requesting to talk over stuff with his boss's boss to work things out). So yeah, my employer, like to fuck you over hard and then kick you to the curb with a quarter for you service. Kinda want to leave but yet don't want to add another short term placement on my Resume (just starts to look bad if you keep moving around >>).
Sadly had to skip out on FurFright as I couldn't afford to go as an attendee. Even just to go socially, had to work both Friday and Saturday, meaning I had to get life stuff done on Sunday (groceries, cleaning, laundry, etc.). Oh well, they'll be more FurFrights in future years and other cons to attend. The furmeets I was able to make it to were mixed bags as it was kinda hard to be around people constantly talking about how awesome furfright was going to be. But still, spending a few hours with others is always nice.
Also had a test result appointment with my doctor. All my blood work came back clean/boringly normal. So husky has no STDs/STIs and all the stuffs in my blood are within normal levels (cholesterol, blood sugar level, etc). So that's good since some of those tests are supposed be done post fast. So since my nonfast levels were good, no worries. My doctor does want to vaccinate me for hepatitis A (think it was A >>) since gay males have a higher risk of possible exposure then general population. Haven't decided if I'll go for that or not. I do have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a disorder where breathing stops during sleep. This means that basically my body isn't getting good sleep and I'm basically always going around sleep deprived (don't notice as I always feel this way). Right now the course of action is for me to lose weight and try to learn not to sleep on my back. If that fails, then I'll have to be put on a CPAP machine to treat it. Other then that, nothing else new for me.

My fursona
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, decided to re-upload this text description of my fursona since it's nice to have and it was on my old account (though it's probably just easier to look at my reference sheets).
- The husky stands 6'0" tall, with a medium build. His hair is a vibrant blue that contrast against his partial blue coat. The hair hangs over his white forehead. His face is completely white which extends a little past his face outline. There, the fur turns to warm, royal blue color which covers the rest of his head. His paws and feet paws are completely white, and his forearms and shins are partially white. The front of his neck, chest, belly, crotch, and rump are white. This white patch extends down the inside of both his thighs. The outside of his thighs, back of his neck, and his back are blue. The tail is blue on the top and white on the bottom, and has a little bit of a white tip. On his upper arms, the white fur is on the inside of the arms, as well as covering his armpits. The blue fur covers the outside of his upper arms, and also covers most of the shoulders. A little below the elbows, and below the knees for the legs, the blue fur changes to white.

September....
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, September just keeps becoming "one of those months," and not in the good way. So not only is my job in jeopardy (possible hour cuts below 40 with loss of OT or unpaid furloughs, plus the possibility of being laid off), loss of gas service a week ago, and having a longer commute to another facility my company works out of, I now got something even better. I just got a bill for $1,296.64 x_x.
Yeah, I guess the sleep study my doctor ordered for me wasn't fully covered by my insurance. Basically he was concerned since a couple I visit and sometimes crash at their place said I have sleep apnea (one of them has it). He was also concerned cause while my sleeping habits may not be the best, it's the sudden and sever bouts of tiredness that also concern him (one minute I'll be fine, the next I can barely keep my eyes open). So yeah, my insurance only covered about 50% of that, so somehow I'll have to figure out a way to pay for this when basically that is one paycheck for me.... so not fun! September cannot end fast enough!

Can't keep quiet
General | Posted 14 years agoI'm sorry, but all these people that are "We need to celebrate our strength and unity" today are being disrespectful. Ten years ago, at least 3200 people DIED! DIED in a very tragic, horrific, and horrible way. There is nothing to celebrate. My feelings is that the way the Boston luncheon handled the meet being on September 11 was how it should be. Just a quiet moment to reflect on the event among a group of friends. Why do others feel the need to make people who lost love ones in the WTC and elsewhere relive the most horrible moments of their lives again and again, year after year. There is nothing to celebrate. This day is a tragic one, not one to celebrate year after year with speeches and the patriotic BS of politicians. How about instead of giving inspiring speeches about how patriotic they are, they get their asses back to D.C. and get this economy back and track and do the job they were elected to do! I'm sorry, but I just feel it is inappropriate to celebrate a day where thousands died. Let's remember and move on. I mean, non of the Firefighters, Police, and other first responders that were there that day were invited to the ceremony. How is this dedication really for the victims where the friends and relatives of those lost are kept out and away from the memorial? So yeah, September 11 should be a time for quiet reflection how our national values are sometimes paid through the death and blood of citizens. This is not a time for politicians and other important people to give speeches ended in applause and cheering. That is just disrespectful to the victims and friends and family of those who lost their lives that day. Quiet reflection does not involve cheering and applause!
Also, bonus points to
xerxes_wolf telling another user on their journal that they don't deserve to live because they wish to remember September 11 in silent reflection rather then joyous applause after hollow speeches. Yeah, telling someone they are a horrible person and deserve to die because they feel the 9/11 now is celebrating the death of 3200 people. Classy!

General | Posted 14 years agoOk, so I have a .cfg file that I would like to be able to open and edit. The thing is, I can't find any program that will open it and allow me to do that. The file in question is an old dos file that contains stuff for a game I've been playing. I know how to edit to do what I want, just can't get it open (I use dosbox to play the game, but dosbox doesn't support .cfg files). Only thing I've been able to find is a program that will open the file, but it doesn't support any editing, which is what I actually need.
One of those weeks where it keeps getting better and better
General | Posted 14 years agoSo yeah, lets recap the last week. So on Friday, get told that weekend work has been cancelled. Not too bad, except there were some nice monetary incentives to go along with working (like an extra $600). Come to find out that the funding for the testing I do has run out and until things get organized, no more samples are to be extracted. So right now my company has close to 23 people that have no work to do and are being shuffled around internally (so yeah, my commute time one way just tripled, JOY!). The best part is as this stretches on, more and more people will run out of work to do (my department is the start of any work so as we stop production, it will slowly move down to the other departments). Best part, is the funding is dependent on how things get sorted out in DC (so basically we are fucked for a couple months or more). So we have been told that cut in hours and unpaid furloughs will be considered as this sample hold continues. Right now, no cuts in hours have been made, but basically I need to find a new job as right now, I have only a little breathing room between costs and what I bring in.
As stated above, I have been moved to a different facility to help out for a couple weeks. This sucks big time as I know have to drive 3 times as far (one way) to get to work. And on top of that, my 6am-2pm work scheduled is no more. Have to do 8-5 which means I now also have to deal with rush hour traffic on top of the increased distance (so yeah, expect to have to do 4 hours travel each day just to get to and from work). I mean, my employer will provide some compensation for gas, but it's the time that is gonna be a bitch! I mean, 12 hours dedicated to work, oh boy!
And now today. Got a lovely gift from National Grid. With no notice or warning, our service was cut for natural gas (meaning we have no heat (not much of a problem in September), no cooking (sucks), and also no hot water (FUCK!). What seems to have happened was me and my roommate believed that our electric and gas services was under the same bill (it's the same fucking company providing both). However,, found out that the bill we have been paying is only the electric, and the gas has gas unpaid. Now, had we known, we would have fixed this. Hell, I know nothing comes for free. The part that pisses me off is the gas was cut off WITHOUT any notice to us. No attempt to contact us and inform us of the situation was made, they just turned off our gas (and I mean service was cut, they removed the gas meter). Best part is this. They can't restore services till sometime next week. So yeah, have to go this whole weekend without any hot things. I mean, I want to ask what more could happen, but I know that then something will.
