Update 4/28 (cancel those major changes...)
Posted 12 years agoThe car died. So there that wage thing on wednesday died with it. I am going to have to rachet up the price though for these commissions, but if you have seen what I did yesterday, You got an idea of what you're going to get, it's $40 US though. But I don't waste much time on these so you will probably get them the day that I respond.
I am going to take the comic gig that I talked about earlier, because I got to get my stuff out there and stuff like that. So, yeah that's the update. I hope you all are doing well.

Update 4/22 (still struggling and major commission changes)
Posted 12 years agoWell, financially I am still underwater. I am starting to feel indifferent about everything probably because I cannot fulfill my obligations and I really don't feel like I am moving forward in life, more like backwards. Frankly, I need a new job because warehouse work and slow work freelancing doesn't cut it right now. I am going to be working on typography and visual communication in order to become a graphic designer. There are lots of jobs for that.
Other than financially, I am doing better than I did in February, but not as well as in this time last year. Someone found me and really, really wants me to develop a comic. I have been mulling over this because that market is saturated, and unless you got something that stands out, there's not much cash in that. I do not think that many if any of these characters I make will make an impact without any comparisons so, I am making new ones in the meantime of making my decision.
There are a lot of things I am trying to make a decision for, my father wants me to succeed him and my uncle in the engineering part of his family's business, I am trying to start my own business, people want to start business with me or want a $60 drawing from me, all kinds of stuff to distract me from thinking why the hell am I not having a better start to post-graduate life.
Speaking of $60 commissions, Starting May 1, I will be introducing a simple rate structure for commissions. Everything will be counted on a rate of $17.50 US / hour. So the things that you usually see from me, commission like that would then be in the range of $50 to $90. Still it would be about half my price for business needs if you want to compare rates.

update 3/1 (still struggling)
Posted 12 years agoYep I am still struggling financially. I am still accepting commissions of single character full body simple shaded color commissions for $16.
Note me if you're interested. If you want something else, please note me as well. The worst I can do is decline the offer.

update 2/16 (commissions still on)
Posted 12 years agoI am still open for 16 buck one character full body color commissions. I am wiping the slate clean as well. If you want to have one, please note me. On the weekend, once paid you can get your pic in the day depending on your spot, or a day or to during the week. Simply put, you won't wait a month for your piece.
Other than that, I am making posters and planning t-shirts and stickers. FLEDGLING BUSINESS!!! Haha!!

Update 2/2 (shaded commissions)
Posted 12 years agoWell I have been doing work on getting a comic story going. It's been a pretty hard endeavor because I have such a huge army of characters that can actually mesh that it's a hard choice as to who is the main protagonist, antagonist, what story it will be ect. I have now decided those parts so, yeah.
Speaking of that I need cash. Quite a bit of cash. So, I guess I need help, in order to have what I need I will do some shaded digital single character commissions (full body) for $16. I am doing it because I definitely need volume if one is to get the money on this site. There are 16 slots available they are:
1) (?)
2)
alexen (done)
3) (?)
4)
jammerhighwind(done)
5) (?)
6) (#4)
7)
jks
(10 to goal)
Please reply in this journal or note me if you're interested.

Show's over.
Posted 13 years agoWell happy end of the Gregorian year.
The Laptop's AC adapter is now kaput. So, since I cannot do much because of what I have to work in order to survive and exist, and I know no one is trying to commission me, I cannot submit anything until at least February when I might have extra cash if I am not ruined beforehand. I guess you can say that 2012 sucks on my end.
Yeah.

30 years of FAIL
Posted 13 years agoYeah. I turned 30 last tuesday. Last week wasn't the best, but I am trying to make 30 better than 29 with some actual professional work. I am tired of being broke all the time.
6 years here (and 6 days)
Posted 13 years agoI could put a downer journal here and for good reason, but I am not. It's 6 years of trying to get my name somewhere in this site. Nothing more, nothing less.
I am just happy that I am about to reach 30, and starting to take charge of my life. It'll probably be packed with pressure especially since I plan to start my own creative business next year after a bunch of rejection from just about everyone this year. I got some things in place once I get going next year that I barely show anyone for IP reasons. You'll get to see them sooner or later.

Still looking for commissions.
Posted 13 years agoI had four in the last 2 days, and have gotten through with them. They're still $15 for digital pieces, and I get done with them quickly so, I am available for whatever.
If you are interested, please note me.
If you are interested, please note me.
Ok. I am back open for commissions.
Posted 13 years agoI ended up hitting worse than rock bottom financially today and with that, I am going to have to raise funds.
I am applying to seasonal retail jobs at this moment, and what's more exciting to you is I am offering commission of digital flat colors of your character in the style of the recent pokemon fighters I had for $15. These pics will be sent by e-mail as a PDF at a resolution of 150 dpi. If you're interested, please contact my e-mail at castlekoopa@gmail.com, which is my paypal address. I will get to you as soon as I can.
I hope things will get better, because it doesn't get much worse than what I am in right now.

Not going and I got a question.
Posted 13 years agoNot going to Pittsburgh for Anthrocon. I got cash problems, which is not a surprise. I am doubtful that I will go there on any given year for the convention because as much as I like the city, except for a few people, the convention was like a "f--k you, ass wipe!!" towards me from the others. So I effectively gave up on furry cons, and focusing on game, comic and game conventions. I got a better chance to be a concept artist than one of those popular guys you love anyways.
Also in that vein. Why do you all watch me? I am asking because this site basically has a foundation and an attention on erotica. Last time I have checked, I haven't uploaded any erotica this decade. Also, there's not a lot of predictability, another popular dude statement. I know some people's answers to this but I want to hear others. Why do you watch me?

making stuff!
Posted 13 years agoBugs and things like that. Things are looking a bit better snince the last journal. But yeah, life is a strange trip, sometimes.
Commissions.
Posted 13 years agoWell. I went through some thought and decided to take commissions once again. This time I will include my traditional work. You have the option of having the original mailed to you via parcel or postal depending on where you live and how fast do you want the original. Just know that the tab will be passed onto you. I will also commission digital pieces also if you want.
So after I bored you with my talk so far, here are the prices.
Traditional pencil : $35 US
Traditional ink: $50 US
Traditional Marker: $60 US
These will be about 11 inches by 14 inches. (28 cm by 35.5 cm.)
Depending on the day and the size of the queue, A pencil drawing would be done somewhere between 2 hours or 3 days after I say "OK" to it. The delay would be mostly due to my job or my working on my project. (working on sprites and bugs for a concept illustrator's role)
Paintings and oversized drawings, I have to think about. They take a lot of resources so I will have to make an assessment of what I have beforehand.
Okay, so digital.
For something like this, it's $12
For something like this it's $20.
For something like this it's $30.
For something like this it's $35.
For something like this it's $75.
For something like this, it's $125.
Sprite sheets, character sheets and animations, I have to think about also, since they take a bunch of time.
I will do one revision free, then I will charge half the base price for any subsequent revisions. The cancel fee is half of the price that's agreed upon. I have the right to say no to anything for any reason, just give a head's up.
If you're interested please e-mail me at castlekoopa@gmail.com. Since the address is linked to my phone, I shall be fairly prompt about responding.

Progressing.
Posted 13 years agoAt rock bottom financially at the moment. Oh well.
Projects going okay. That's cool.
Worked in an easier style to make Urizu and Toad Fighter viable in the professional character development circuit. Well I hope to be in it sometime soon or something.
Not going to anthrocon. Why? Well, I need to get a membership to AIGA so I can actually start to look like a professional illustrator or something like it. I need to get to Los Angeles or The Bay Area so I can have a better chance to be able to get a chance to get hired. I had not much luck in actual professions in Dallas. $10 /hr jobs, sure. Real professions that actually uses your skills you learned, not so sure. Maybe I have to change my approach or get stuff out there somehow.
Learning business stuff. Maybe it's the way to go after learning art.
So, yeah in short, I am holding myself together and my dreams are shakily being held, even though I and my dreams have dimmed from the old "I can do anything" glow I had right after school a while ago.

today I am the fool.
Posted 13 years agoI was a fool to think that things will be better for me financially and to think that I would easily obtain a secondary income from commissions in October, I mean, I was able to turn around those $20 commissions in 5 hours, so it was fast and too cheap. "What was I to lose?" I thought back then.
I was a fool to get such a specialized degree in a place that isn't really a great place to start, then I moved to another place that isn't all that great, but even more cavernous so now I got no one to lean to for help. I feel like it's going to be a reality for quite a while, and that's saddening to me. I thought that I had a bunch to offer to anyone who would be interested in hiring or commission me for art work, but it seems that either I am not forceful enough, social enough, good enough, not causing drama or not being in the right clique (I have no clique).
So here I am. Saddened, discouraged and pessimistic. It sucks for you if you have read it, because it is depressing for me to write it. But hey, at least you know I am not going to mince words, or be dishonest about myself and what I feel. I just hope this little warrior thing is going to take me at least in the right direction.

Test Comic
Posted 14 years agoI will start on making one and hopefully have it penciled in 3 weeks. It will be some old mario bros' based characters, but will have the feel of what I tend to do later in the year, which will be okay for it. I guessing that it will be about 10 pages. So yeah. I just want to start doing what I want to do instead of having to do jobs.
2011. How did it go for me?
Posted 14 years agoWell, basically I cannot say it better than this guy can.
artist meme. because I am here.
Posted 14 years ago10000 views. Yay, me.
I stole it from
kompy because I can.
What sort of artist would you most identify yourself as?
Concept illustrator and character designer.
What would be your secondary identity?
Animator I think.
What forms of art do you dabble in, but don't excel at?
Probably comics and landscapes.
How would you describe your 'style'?
Retro, detailed, animated and not so complex.
What medium do you favor most?
Paper and pencil. Fastest things to art with.
What are your favorite subject matters?
Usually reptiles, amphibians, birds and the like. Motion is my abstract subject.
What are your least favorite subject matters?
Plants. I mess them up at a frequent pace.
List your Artistic Strengths
Draftsmanship.
Ideas.
Speed.
List your Artistic Weaknesses
Putting concepts together and finishing them.
Craftsmanship.
Color choice.
Color application.
Which of the above weaknesses would you most like to see improve?
I am trying to improve all of them.
Adult Content. . . yes/no?
It'll be a rare occasion that I go into adult content, because I believe I should be out there trying to master a character not to just arouse the masses for cheap pops. That's probably why it took 5 years for me to reach 10,000 views and probably 1500 of them is by me hahaha!!
Commissioned/requested? People came out of the woodwork once I say the word "request". I do not get commissioned much though.
Adult Subject Matter you favor?
Contemplation. I think of how to get ahead within this crazy world without screwing people over. Maybe that makes me too nice by typing it, but it's true. I tend to look at death and what is it about.
Schooling/Training received in the arts?
15 years self-taught, and a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. I have been drawing pretty constantly since I was 10 or 11.
Schooling/Training you'd still like to have?
Maya. Maya is hard. Maya is expensive. Maya gets you a job in the animation industry. Maya gets you to learn 3DS Max faster. 3DS Max gets you into the Game industry. I should have learned Maya.
I think I want to go to Gnomon or somewhere.
Would you consider yourself prolific, or a 'quality over quantity' sort of artist?
prolific. I draw virtually everyday. It doesn't matter what I draw, I just draw something.
Would you considering yourself a Fine Artist, or a Commercial Artist?
Commercial. Fine Art tends to be a touchy world.
Where would you like to be in five years?
Working somewhere in the professional art field, I hope. Other than that I will be back at school.

Posted 14 years agoIt feels like a hollow victory to me. I just want to start doing something that I love to do, not what I have to in order to survive again. But, I guess if I can start a project in order to have something finished for employment. I need to figure out what it is, and how to do it.
That is all for me.
That is all for me.
On the verge of (years, views, watches and stuff)
Posted 14 years agoWell, it's about a week towards the 5th anniversary at Fur Affinity, which I thought was impossible. I would have been either kicked out because I'm "not furry enough" or I would have been so disgusted that I would leave myself. I must be a coward to be here for so long.
Also, the page view number is about 98XX so yeah, about that's near enough to 10000, which is going to present a conflict. You see, people are going to take a single look at that number of views and the number of favorites and they say "wow! You're popular as hell!" when my stature is dang near the furthest from popular as someone who can draw can be. When I depend on the front page to get a watch or two, popular isn't the word to be describing myself. Naïve and dumb, probably, but certainly not popular. Oh well, that's my bed that I sleep in.
Speaking of watches, I would like to thank you all for the 514 watches. I know that I can be a pain to people at times and I don't really cater to anyone other than myself, but I am glad to have you interested in either me or my work. I want to really get work and not be in this predicament anymore.
I thank you for your time! I hope you all are doing well.

So, now I am in The Metroplex area.
Posted 14 years agoYep. It's time to start anew, and actually chase the dream instead of just dreaming.
So, I am now jobless.
Posted 14 years agoSo now, I will just do a couple of commissions to try and compensate for that loss, because once I get to Dallas, I don't know what will actually happen. It should be better than my time here. So yeah the prices.
Digital Lineart: $15
Digital Color: $20
If you're interested, my e-mail and paypal address is:
castlekoopa[at]gmail.com
I don't know. I have been drawing a lot though.

Commissions. I have information for them.
Posted 14 years agoYeah. After intense anger and frustration that came from the utterly fruitless efforts of my own job search, I decided to make my own job.
While I am concocting my own master plan, I am taking commissions.
Really.
No joke. No looking back.
Right now, I take 4 slots for here and 4 on devart.
There are only 2 flat prices.
Note me on what you want and how you want to pay. I can work with you if you do not have paypal.
Why is digital cheaper?
Because I want to build my skills in digital art. Plus I don't have to go to a place with a scanner or send the original via Priority Mail.
What do you allow
I don't draw porn. There are plenty who do, but I am not one of them. I am not into fetishes either, art school killed that. Extreme violence I won't do either because it wouldn't be fair if I did and then turn around and said "no porn".
Other than that, you never know unless you ask.

10. Back from work!
Posted 14 years agoFor each of the first 10 people answering this journal I will put his/her avatar and the 3 submissions I like most from his/her gallery on the list.
IMPORTANT: If you answer, you'll have to do the same in your journal, putting me on the first place, completing the list with 10 other people. The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone.
KEEP IN MIND. YOU MUST HAVE BE AN ACTUAL DOODLER/WRITER/(...)ER AND HAVE AS MUCH PICTURES ON YOUR GALLERIES THAT ARE MADE BY YOU:
Got it from

Miss 404 has really blossomed with a really fun style that's not implemented in fur affinity but in today's pop-art which is really nice. I chose these three because they literally stopped me on my submissions page!

A man of great imagination and bold thinking, Upchuckle churns out many characters who wouldn't even be thought of by most others on fur affinity or any other place either unless the video game sector, and that's a long shot with them. I appreciate his efforts to share his characters with us greatly. :]

I actually picked J-Raz' own stuff because these items are well detailed. The only thing that separates this from professional concept drawings is the aesthetics. The notes easily communicate what is where and the shapes are easy to point out. It should be easy for another artist to make revisions and be accurate.
Four down, 6 to go.
