HMS Bounty Sinks
General | Posted 13 years agoI was following this overnight. I thought my ears were playing tricks when I heard the news gal say that the HMS Bounty (a replica built for the 1962 movie starring Marlon Brando) was taking on water 90 miles off Hatteras, North Carolina. It was headed for St Petersburg, Florida.
Word came from the Coast Guard that she sunk at 8:45 AM, just after the crew had been lifted off.

Out Among The Stars
General | Posted 13 years agoThe news is now reporting on the death of Neil Armstrong, first man to step foot on the moon. He was 82 and recovering from heart surgery, according to reports.
It's sad when a person we've all known as such a hero for so many years passes but he did have a good run.
Neil, pick a star and shine down on us Earthbound humans.

Demand for Zombie Bullets Soars as Flesh Eaters Make News
General | Posted 13 years agoZombie Bullets In High Demand Following Flesh-Eating Attacks
DETROIT (WWJ) – Worried about a zombie attack? Buy zombie bullets.
Talk about zombies and a possible zombie apocalypse has increased due to recent gory accounts of drug-induced, flesh-eating attacks in the news.
Stores across the U.S., including in Metro Detroit, are getting in on the undead action by selling Zombie Bullets, made by Hornady Manufacturing.
In promoting the product on their website, Hornady suggests, “Be PREPARED – supply yourself for the Zombie Apocalypse with Zombie Max ammunition from Hornady! Loaded with PROVEN Z-Max bullets… MAKE DEAD PERMANENT!”

General | Posted 14 years agoWSJ Discovers Bronies
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, the mainstream is starting to notice the pony mania. Today it was a topic on the Wall Street Journal radio show. The host was gagging as the piece went on but they didn't come right out and say it was evil. All-in-all it was pretty positive (as these things go.)
The article is pretty much what they said on the radio: http://tinyurl.com/3gsarzp
Furries were in early defending the show and themselves. Some were the same persons under various identities.
Wonder where it will surface next and whether it will be 10% as polite...

General | Posted 14 years agoHawaii Five-0 had some furries on it tonight. I expected the worst but they were just a passing reference at a comic con. A superhero fan was killed and his GF was a furry.
Yeah, there were general remarks about comic fen being uncool but that was it. No deep shots at furries for a change.
Is furry becoming old hat now? Just part of the geek background?

Now, furries have been in love with Firefox because it has a yiffy lil fox logo but the company doesn't seem that attached to it.

It's Evil!
General | Posted 15 years agoSouth Park is running a 3-parter involving the boys as superheroes and took the opportunity to be deliciously evil.
Part of the story has BP drilling in the wrong places and releasing Cthulhu. Cartman (aka The Coon) naturally makes friends with the big C.
The evil? (No, that's not enough for them.) They end part 2 (of 3) with Cartman riding Cthulhu and a re-written version of an obscure song playing.
The song?
Totoro.
"Cthu-lhu, Cthulhu,"
Probably on YouTube by the time you read this.

Vatican news: Alien Lifeform Could Be Baptized.
General | Posted 15 years agoSpeaking ahead of a talk at the British Science Festival in Birmingham tomorrow, Guy Consolmagno, who is one of the pope's astronomers, said that the traditional definition of a soul was to have intelligence, free will, freedom to love and freedom to make decisions. "Any entity – no matter how many tentacles it has – has a soul." Would he baptise an alien? "Only if they asked."
Augh! Tentacle rape!

General | Posted 15 years agoPAS resumes its monthly meetings September 11th.
PAS is the old C/FO Philadelphia and has been meeting and running under the same people since 1983 (first meeting was 1978).
A recent move was occasioned by the Holiday Inn upping its rates so meetings are being held at the Philadelphia Senior Center on the 600 block of S. Broad Street for now. Meeting starts at roughly 7:00PM.
