Submissions on FA
General | Posted 10 years agoHa! Mystifur just gave me an awesome idea:
I'll resume submitting my pictures on FA, but here, they'll be heavily watermarked (but not on weasyl, dA and soFurry). So my watchers here still get to see them, and can download them from other places, but IMVU only gets access to unusable files. Might be the best of both worlds! ^.^

Okay, I AM going to move my content over to weasyl.
General | Posted 10 years agoWith what is happening on FA currenly, I don't think I feel welcome here anymore, not because of the users - I like everyone of you who follows me or whom I follow! - but because of what's started happening here. Not only that the sale to IMVU wasn't announced sooner, but also what I see happening to other people, see e.g.

Stuff like that is just not acceptable.
It really pains me to leave a great community like this, but with the current state of affairs, I don't want to be part of it anymore.
So I'll start migrating over my submissions soon-ish-ly...
Cheers everyone,

Thinking about leaving, too
General | Posted 10 years agoLately I've been active almost exclusively on dA again (most of the pony stuff is there), and with the whole IMVU buying FA thing... dunno. I don't feel good about this, especially with the deal having happened in January, and only now being made public. Feels like they're trying to hide something.
Let's see what happens in the coming days.
Let's see what happens in the coming days.
On questions, tutorials, etc.
General | Posted 15 years agoI think I'm not the only one to think so and certainly not one of them most haunted by these things, but since it just came up, I feel I need to write it down anyways.
People – if you need advice and guidance on a topic, please, go look for answers yourselves first! Learn the basics. Read up on things that have already been asked and answered countless times.
Most people, me included, are happy to help you and explain things. BUT, most of us don't have infinite free time either.
So, once you know the basics and there are some questions still unanswered in your head, you know exactly what it is you don't understand yet. That is the time you should come and ask. Come, and ask a specific question.
Because specific questions are the ones that are fun (and more or less quick) to answer, and consequently, most people will be happy to do so.
Another thing is: Stay polite, don't get bitchy or snarky, even if you don't like an answer. Chances are, if you do, you won't ever get an answer you like again. Just think about it: By giving you an answer, perhaps even looking up links or tutorials, the one you asked has already done more than he had to, he could just as well have not answered at all.
If you stay polite though, think about why you didn't get the answer you wanted to hear, you might realise an answer is always a reflection of the question, and even though mirrors come in a variety of shapes and might display totally different kinds of reflections, what they all have in common is this: The output always depends on and changes with the input.
So – think about your question, word it so that your opposite can and will just naturally give the answer you want to get – and both end up being happy.
Thanks for listening, over and out.

Suit meme
General | Posted 15 years agoStolen from
Beetlecat
1 What name do you go by when suiting?
Runoratsu, Runo, my RL-Name or nickname - whatever you want. I own only suits of my characters as of yet.
2 What is the name of your suit(s)?
Donkey: Runoratsu. Cat: Runo, or perhaps Sir Runo or some such ;)
3 Do you have a full or a partial suit?
Donkey: Full. Cat: Partial with matched clothing.
4 What animal is your fursuit?
Donkey/Pallas' Cat
5 What color is most of your suit?
Donkey: Grey; white. Cat: Tan-grey; white; sunflower yellow
6 Does it have any special designs?
Nope, both times quite standard for these animals, apart from the sunflower yellow parts are more like a yellowish tan on Pallas' Cats.
7 If yes, is it airbrushed or sewn specially?
Cat: Partly sewn, partly brushed (without air).
8 Does your suit have any accessories? (piercings, weapons, etc.)
Donkey: Nope. Cat: Yes - clothing, pipe, cane, hats
9 How long have you been fursuiting?
3 years
10How long have you had your current suit?
Donkey: 3y. Cat: 1y
11 Is the suit you have now your first fursuit?
No.
12 If no, is the suit you have now an updated version of your old fursuit?
No.
13 Who made your fursuit?
Both myself.
14 Synthetic fur, or real fur?
Synthetic, of course! O_O
15 Do you have a moving jaw?
Yes, on both.
16If yes, how many teeth?
Donkey: 4. Cat: full taxidermy jawset.
17 Furthermore, does your mouth have a tongue?
Yes, on both.
18 Follow-me eyes, yes or no?
Donkey: no. Cat: yes.
19 Where did your suit make its debut?
Donkey: EF13. Cat: EF15.
20 What was the first convention (include year of con) you went to in suit?
EF13 (2007)
21 Digitigrade legs, furry pants, other?
Donkey: digitigrade legs, "fake digitigrade" hooves. Cat: "fake digitigrade" paws.
22 What do you do (if anything) to keep your suit clean and nice smelling/looking?
Antibacterial spray after each wearing, full wash when neccessary (dirty or smelly). Regular brushing.
23 Is there anything special about your suit that sets it apart from others?
Donkey: Not really. Cat: Yes, the character - more serious, also the style of the clothing. Special method for the eyes as well.
24 What do you normally wear under your suit?
Normal underwear/T-Shirt. Washable pants with digitigrade padding for the donkey.
25 How much would you say your suit has cost you financially?
Donkey: ~350€/ Cat: ~400€-500€, depending on what I count in... and loads of time.
26 What's the most damage your suit (any of them) has ever suffered?
Hoof broke when on stage EF14. Cat hasn't suffered real damage yet, fortunately.
27 What is the core of your tail?
Donkey: No core, donkeys need bell-pull tails ;). Cat: modified pool noodle.
28 How does your suit's various parts stay attached to your body?
Donkey: Paddings glued on pants, tail velcroed to black back stripe, the rest is just... well, wearable (body has a zipper and velcro). Cat: Hindpaws fastened with breeks' fasteners, tail attached to the belt, rest wearable (not attached).
29 Does your fursuit head have eyelids?
Nope for both.
30 What does your suit smell like?
Mostly the antibacterial spray I use, after wash like the washing agent (well, duh).
31 If you've got'em, how long are your suit's ears (inches please)?
Donkey: 10. Cat: 2.5
32 What do you store your suit in?
Hang it in the closet, heads sit in my living room (the cat on one of my big loudspeakers)
33 What's the story behind your suit (try to be brief):
My first furry con, ef12, made me SO want my own suit that I started making one myself.
The planning for my second suit brought me my char change (at first it was only a suit concept), and I wanted to try a lot of new techniques I had thought of while building the first suit.
34 Do you like giving hugs when in suit?
Well, yes, very much in fact, but only if the people appear and smell clean.
What I don't like is people holding the suits' noses closed, where the fans blow out, or the eyes. Many seem to find that unbelievably funny - I don't.
35 Ever... uh... "yiff" while in suit?
No. My suits are to precious for me for ruining them with that.
*Maybe* I'd try it with a suit I'd build especially for it, but there would have to be a lot of good reasons convincing me it was really worth that. I imagine it rather exhausting o.O
36 Do you avoid people carrying coffee, soda, things that stain a suit?
Well, more or less. With people I know to be careful, no problem, or in the spur of the moment, but especially with nonfurs I'm very cautious there.
37 Do you eat/drink in suit, or do you at least remove the head first?
Eating - only small things like salt sticks or such. Once I licked on an ice cream (with the donkey head on) ;).
Drinking - no problem with a straw or from a bottle. The donkey can even drink through its nose with a straw!
38 Do you ever put your suit on, look in the mirror and do sexy poses?
Sexy - no, not really. Posing though - sure! ^.^
39 How much do you sweat in suit?
Depends on the activity of course. At a dance... LOTS and lots. Like, drinking 5, 6 litres and not having to go to the loo... ;)
40 Do you like suiting around kids (under 16yrs)?
Depends on the kids. Some are reaaally cute, and accept the character as itself. It just doesn't get more rewarding than that.
Others are real brats, and while even that can be fun for a little while, it gets tiring very quickly.
41 Where have you gotten the most attention while in suit?
Carnival here in Munich this year. That was even a little scary, but much fun. Otherwise I haven't suited a lot outside conventions.
42 Ever been stopped by security/the law for being in suit?
Nope.
43 Ever plays sports while in suit?
Nope.
44 Have you ever let somebody else wear your suit?
The donkey, yes, but only after it wasn't "me" anymore and I had my second one.
liamfjord wore it at EF15 at various times, but ony as a partial, the body didn't fit, he's much shorter than me.
45 Have you ever cried while in suit?
Well, my eyes teared a little when sweat kept dripping into them some times, but otherwise, no. I have unvoluntarily napped in both suits, though.
46 Does your suit protect you against the force of drama?
Definitely, they're 100% drama proof. :P (ô.o really? What a question...)
47 Favorite thing to do in suit?
Dunno, making people smile/laugh I guess, or have them scratch their heads because it's the first time they see a suit.
Ah, and dancing to exhaustion also belongs onto the list of my Top5-Suiting activities ^.^
49 Favorite romping grounds in suit?
Favourite as in where I suit most times? Then that's cons. Or where I like best? That's suitwalks, because I like other (non furry) people's reactions!
50 Do you bowl while in suit?
Yep, but not well ;)
51 Ever make a video of yourself in suit?
Not yet, but I have appeared in some con videos.
52 When in suit, do you talk?
Donkey - no. Cat - yes, that's a talking character.
53 Do you believe in the magic?
Yes, definitely. And I don't like people breaking yours (no problem with them breaking their own).
54 Have you ever held up a sign that reads "THE GAME" or "Free hugs"?
Nope.
55 Have you been on/in the news lately?
Once at ef14 there was a report about the con, where I was featured as well. Otherwise no.
56 Is anybody ever too old or young to be a fursuiter?
Too young, yeah. Only open face costumes for them little ones, which I don't consider fursuits.
Suiting is possible from ~8y (short time) and ~13y (longer time) IMO. But adult spotters that know them VERY well are a must there.
Older people should know by themselves what they're able to do, and I don't consider it creepy or sth like that.
57 When you go romping, who do you take with you?
Whoever is near and can't defend himself! ;)
58 What's the most wet your suit has ever gotten with you in it?
Donkey - quite a lot at last year's MMC, when I stayed on the dancefloor for the whole night and started pouring cups of cool water down my back and chest to keep me from overheating somewhen in the morning.
Cat - not very wet. Felines don't like that ;p
59 Ever lift a leg, just for laughs?
To quote Beetlecat: "*points* feline. We have dignity."
And the donkey didn't either.
60 What's your policy regarding camp fires and fursuits?
I'm very cautious of fire when in suit, and I don't like the stink anyway.
61 Largest thing you ever got stuck to your suit?
Some child at last Suhlvester o.O
62 How do people normally react when they see your suit for the first time?
"Cuuuuute!!" (at least at the Carnival)... Furries are not that enthusiastic most times, I think the serious appearance (especially compared to toony suits) makes it less huggable/cuddly.
63 favorite suiting story?
Nothing, really. Perhaps the two (non furry) people in ef13's elevator, that gave me a sidewards glance and one said to the other "Look, there's another one of *these*...! O_O" They didn't talk to me for the whole time in there...
64 Who are your favorite suiters that you look up to?
Dunno, I look up to suit *builders*, but even though I think performance is *really* important, I don't "look up to" any suiter. I admire some for their energy in suit though, doing stunts or dancing very energetically.
65 would you get married in suit (or at least with a tail)?
Not for the "real" wedding. I'd like to have a secondary one, in suit, perhaps at a convention, though, if I ever marry.
Beetlecat1 What name do you go by when suiting?
Runoratsu, Runo, my RL-Name or nickname - whatever you want. I own only suits of my characters as of yet.

On commissions...
General | Posted 16 years agoJust to have it here as well:
I do accept commissions any time, though it may be you have to wait some time until I get around to do it.
I might be through my current list in a month or so, though.
As my Mac is a little broken :P I'm not offering digital commissions at the moment. Anything RM - just ask me, be it just a pencil sketch or an acrylic painting on canvas.
I don't have fixed prices, as that depends on so many variables - media, degree of detail of the characters, if you want a background, how detailed that is, size, etc pp - but as a rule of thumb I'd say:
About 20-40Euro/USD30-55 for a single, full body character, DIN A4 picture, add 10-20Euro/USD 15-30 per additional character and/or the background.
Badges run from about 10Euro/USD15 to 30Euro/USD50.
Of course, if the characters or the background is comparatively simple, I charge less, if it is very complex, I charge more.
Same goes for how interesting I find your idea and so on ;) - I often add a background for free or make it more intricate than required when the people are especially nice to work with or the idea just appeals to me - don't count on it though ;)
In the end I also always leave a margin of about 10% up or down for the commissioner to decide, depending on how much you like the result (or not, but that has yet to happen :D)
So in a nutshell - best thing is, if you want a picture from me, talk to me on ICQ (#166472154), write me a message or send a mail to runoratsu at gmail dot com, and we'll just go over the details there...
