So I have friends who like things I'm not really into, but I was recently chatting with a group of buddies, and we discovered that one artist in the niche (they have over 2k followers here on FA) uses edited screenshots or outright stolen from other artists as backgrounds in their art.

I've already shot off a report, cuz ya know, up-charging to add a fully rendered background for a total of almost $200 is not chill. The issue is, I really really really wanna make a public post about it. But I'm also like, really aggressive with callouts, to the point of it makes those who I love around me embarrassed or outright ashamed to be associated with me. Which is fair, my anger knows no limitations.

I do however feel it should be publicized one way or another souly because of how long it has gone unnoticed, and the amount of money they charge for backgrounds is not a small amount, and thus its theft and a scam. And I think people who bought comms with stolen background but paid over $100 for the comms should be alerted to it, cuz it's unfair for them to not know.

In short, I need help with determining if I should call them out for it, where I should call them out, and how to tactfully do it so it's informative but also not just me being angry and shooting in an unhelpful rant for several lines of text. I did not find all the OG backgrounds, but I found 4 of the stolen original backgrounds on 6s of their submissions (they don't have a lot of art with full backgrounds, I wanna say that's roughly half of them) some of which are reused.

Any advice on how to tackle this would be apprected

I had been fighting a fair amount of depression and hesitation from rating, the only art I got done was Colab work, but that's cuz a certain somebody pestered me daily enough to fill my anxiety meter to the max! (both good and bad, no grudge no judge) But alas, after I finish up these comms all art comms will be closed! This means there will only be 1 updated Burning Pride, and that's the person who I was stalling on.

There is really no excuse for my absence. yes I was busy a lot, but also I was too stressed out to pick up my pen even when I did have plenty of free time~ I'm very sorry, and I understand this being a poor experience, I will deliver, and mayhaps even a bonus for the long wait.... if I don't stress myself out.

I will still be posting art, I'll just focus on personal art I can sleep on without holding out on someone.

I've been seeing people as of late say 'i wont take commissions if you send me an ai generated refence'

I get AI is being used to take peoples job, and a lot of bad people are using to make money. I condemn those people.

This is how I see AI:
I have a really nice kitchen knife. I use it to cut my meat when I make pork chops.

Some one else has the same kind of kitchen knife and they use it to stab someone.

If you use it as a tool to convay an Idea you want done by a real artist. You making pork chops. You selling AI 'art' or editing AI images into what you want, your stabbing someone.

To be clear, it's okay to have your opinions on AI. But to me, AI is only as bad as the person using it. And it beong used in refrance with other forms of reference is a-okay with me.

Whether you agree or not, I am open to it being used as a reference to create something or have something created~

Edit to clarify (and fix spelling stuffs):

Using AI generators contributes to it. Almost all people who make AI profit off of its knowing it's misuse, and I highly recommend not using AI generators, given the people who make them. But I can't stop people from using it, nor can I tell everyone why it's bad to use. Ultimately I encourage using different references but I am okay with taking them and encouraging better usage of resource finding.
