Treeknocker ref sheet (for posterity)
General | Posted a year agoThis would be for Treeknocker, my sasquatch character.
What makes it is: Kind of a human face, human nose, but broadened a bit,
strong brow with lots of hair on it, thick, bushy, mustache, beard, and hair.
Actual forehead, maybe a little suggestion of a point on the head, but not
much.
Body: Really big-boned build, broad, strong shoulders, little bit of pecs,
nipples (subtle), body hair comes to a line/trail down the front, a little bit
of belly is good.
Facial hair (beard/brow/moustache) preferably gray, the rest of the hair can
be tans or browns to your liking. Scruffy/shaggy. Swarthy to dark skin.
Brown eyes.
The broad, hairy shoulders are important.
He doesn't wear clothes, unless something special is going on, or he has to
"play human" for a while.
He's got a bit of an erotic tinge based on his strength, his kind of earthy,
healthy sexiness, and his aliveness. It's okay to show his at-rest manhood. I
much prefer that to an overtly sexual piece.
Note: I never ask artists to do work they're not comfortable with. If you don't do nudity,
it's ok to cover him up with shorts or a loincloth, just put more fur there, have objects
in the way, etc.
Obligatory movie quote from The Goodbye Girl (1977):
Paula McFadden: I thought you said you were decent.
Elliot Garfield: I am decent. I also happen to be naked.

Depictions of sasquatches that I like:
I did thoroughly like the look from Letters from the Big Man. See here:
https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=letters+from+the+big+man&first=1
(There was a site with great pictures, but it's down)
(and the pictures zoom if you click them) Especially the road scene (but no
sneakers! production detail). It's a little bit of a different look than
usually seen.
Also liked this drawing of Jim Butcher's River Shoulders:
https://crediblenerds.com/blog/2021.....es-short-story
Pose/Situation:
I'm still working up kind of background on him. Treeknocker lives in the Hoh
Rainforest of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington.
He goes to town sometimes. I figure he's the "open secret" of some small
nearby town. Sasquatch? What sasquatch? We haven't seen any sasquatches around
here, have we, George? I've thought about him putting shorts on to be more
acceptable to the town-folk, but if it's the town that keeps him the town
secret, he probably goes as-is. I liked the park bench piece Bruka did.
He's got one known possession: A flute given him by some Native Americans; he
plays this in the forest. One of the above pictures shows him playing a song
to the setting sun.
He likes water, and would be seen often by a river or creek.
He acts as kind of a caretaker for the forest creatures. He watches out for
humans getting themselves into trouble, though he still tries to hide. He's
friendly, but usually very shy. He's rather protective of the residents of the
little town that helps keep his secret.
Situational brainstorm:
- Treeknocker is picking something up at the general store, just being a big
ol' squatch in the altogether buff, and some tourist is shocked/surprised to
find him.
- Treeknocker sitting up against a tree, reading something. He's smarter than you think...he's been watching humans from behind this tree or that for
decades, and
picking up printed things they leave behind.
- Moon-bathing on a full moon night by his favorite stream, relaxing with his
hands behind his head.
Artist's discretion:
Part of asking for an art commission is to have something that combines my
character ideas with the artist's style and design ideas.
My descriptions are there as guidance; if I asked for a commission it's
because I like your style or some work you did.
Situations described are there so that the artist can pick something that
resonates with them; I don't like leaving artists guessing as to what they
should draw. If you have a great idea, let's run wiht it!

Happy Earth Day
General | Posted 9 years agoDo something for Earth Day! You can lower your carbon footprint, recycle old electronics ecologically, reduce your use of water and electricity (LED light bulbs are getting cheaper), and in some areas, you can even choose your electric provider (wind power for me)!
Every day is Earth Day for Treeknocker. Though his footprint is big, it isn't made of carbon.

Treeknocker Sasquatch:
1. Lives in the Hoh Rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.
2. Acts as something of a caretaker for the forest and its creatures. He’ll also look after the humans if they get in trouble, as long as they’re not malicious.
3. He’s an “open secret” in a small village, where he visits sometimes. Everybody there protects the secret of his existence. Sasquatch? That’s a legend. There are no real sasquatches, not around here.
4. He has one known possession: A flute some Native Americans gave to him. He plays this in the forest (one picture shows him playing a song to the setting sun).
5. He’s naturally very shy, but friendly once he gets to know someone.
6. He almost never wears any kind of clothing. Not even in town. But he wants friends to be comfortable and would cover up for that.
7. He likes water a lot, and is often in it. Consequently, he’s usually pretty clean. For a sasquatch.
8. Although he lives mostly like a forest creature, he is actually literate.

General | Posted 11 years agoWhere are you staying?
My apartment. I live a little farther than Gene and Jude's.
What day are you getting there?
I'll be commuting starting on Thursday.
Who will you be rooming with?
Don't have a roommate, not yet, at least.
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
Nrasser if I can pry him out of AV. Plonq and Atara. Some of the RRFurs. I know most of the staff, but they're probably busy.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Check my schedule: http://sched.furfest.org/rustitobuck
My schedule is not set in stone, it's just reminders to me. I might or might not go to those things.
Will you be suiting?
Not this year.
Which suit(s) will you be bringing?
No suits this year.
Do you do free art?
Not an artist, but sometime photographer.
Do you do trades?
No.
Do you do badges?
No.
Do you do commissions?
Nah, not an artist. I might be looking for commissions for my new fursona though.
What is your gender?
Male.
How tall are you?
5'11"
Are you taken? Are you looking for a 'mate'?
I'm in a male pair bond (kind of like dolphins or lions do), but it's open. I'm free and encouraged to enjoy all kinds of things, as long as it's safe. I'm not looking for a mate, per se, but friendships at many levels are good things.
Can I talk to you?
Yes, please!
Can I touch you?
You can assume that social touch (handshakes, shoulders) are okay, and I'm huggable. Just no surprises from behind, ok? The rest is negotiable.
How can I find you?
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/rustitobuck/, @rustitobuck, Apple ID rustitobuck[at]gmail.com (FaceTime, iMessage, Find Friends)
Can I visit your room?
Can I visit yours instead?
Can I buy you drinks?
Iced tea!
Can I give you stuff?
Nothing big, expensive or contagious please.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Hug: Just open your arms and see what happens. Snuggle: When we know each other better. You should smell good: bad breath or body smell makes me want to go away.
Are you nice?
Nicer than I look. Really.
How long are you going?
I should be there from Thursday evening on through Sunday evening. Currently I'm commuting to the con (I live closer than most everybody else), but ready to join a room if the right situation arises.
Do you have an artist table?
No.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Wave or say hi.
Where will you be most of the time during the day(s)?
Probably around the main hotel.
What/where will you be eating?
I like the O'Hare American Grill right in the lobby. Convenience trumps expense, and the buffet is nice. Usually looking for dinner around six.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Sure.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
Don't know if I'm carrying it this year, because I'm commuting.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
I've got one for artists, and one for amateurs. There was a tradition long ago where my friends and I would trade bad amateur drawings.
Can I take your picture?
Sure. Just let me know it's happening.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Meet people I know online, and make and deepen friendships. Maybe even snuggle.

Hug: Just open your arms and see what happens. Snuggle: When we know each other better. You should smell good, bad breath or body smell makes me want to go away.
Are you nice?
Nicer than I look.
How long are you going?
Usually takes about 30 seconds, then I shake it a little to make sure the drops are gone.
Do you have an artist table?
Uh...what? I have a dining table.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Light your clothing on fire. Or, just say hi. Words work.
Where will you be most of the time during the day(s)?
Work. Metra. Out walking.
What/where will you be eating?
Bison. Probably in the lunchroom or my living room. Fish on friday. French toast during the Revolution.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Sure. Find me on twitter and maybe I can get you on my calendar.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
Sure. It's in my room, so maybe we should talk, get together at a restaurant first, and then if I feel comfortable with you, I might invite you over.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
I've got one for artists, and one for amateurs. There was a tradition long ago where my friends and I would trade bad amateur drawings.
Can I take your picture?
Not for a few months until the beard grows back. I'm ugly as sin.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
I really hope they have a blockbuster year. 6000 attendees would be nice, but if not, maybe they could have 8000. The staff works so hard, that I hope they're rewarded with a lot of people having fun.
