So my laptop's hard drive crashed a few weeks ago and the data is unrecoverable. I've been trying to use Linux booted off of a flash drive in the meantime, to make music. It was really difficult. Today, I thought I'd go in the thrift store to see about some parts to fix up my laptop, and I found a desktop marked 15 dollars because of missing parts and the color was 75% off. I checked the power supply, it worked. and the type of pins out needed for parts. It matched what parts I have just laying around. I also bought a hard drive marked at 3 dollars also 75% off. Everything works like a dream, running Windows xp with a cpu clocked at 3.10 GHz with 1.5gb ram and slots for 3 more and it only cost me not even five dollars. Now I can make music again. BEST 5 DOLLARS I'VE EVER SPENT IN MY LIFE

I'm now using linuxmint 15 run off of a flash drive so unless i can find a recording thing for linux then i guess i'll have to wait until i get a new computer, and i really dont want to use a windows 8 computer because that's all that they sell in stores now.

My laptop won't fucking start.

Shit

I was working on a song and I left for a minute, came back, and the screen saver was on.
So I moved the mouse and a blue screen of doom popped up.
I figured what the hell it will probably start back up easy. Now it only gets as far as the user screen and I enter my password and after a few minutes of the damn welcome screen it goes to a black screen with a mouse that I can move but nothing happens.

I'm genuinely pissed. Because I was working on the best song I've done so far and now I can't get to it.

I was going to make a video on this but I can't at the moment until I have time to myself. Because making a video about screaming anywhere else but my car (there's awkward angles in the car, too hard to make a video in there) would not be good, so I'll make one when every one else is out of the house.

But in the meantime, I should tell you how to practice, warm up, and rest your voice.

I start out before recording my having a snack. I find that it helps my voice get started in the ,morning. Peanut butter helps a lot.. Don't really know why but it does. Then I bring some room temp water into my studio (car) and I start singing. Yes, singing because i find it helps my voice get a kick start into being prepared to let out some brootal vocals. I like to sing to something with wide ranges, like owl city, that starts out with a low voice and then goes higher, forcing you prepare and then use your diaphragm, just like stretches before exercising. Then when I'm done singing, I pick a song to do, and start out listening to the song, getting the feel of it, knowing what range i should scream in before hitting record. Then when I'm ready, I hit record from the beginning.

When I scream, I like tighten the muscles in my stomach area (diaphragm) and kind of tighten my throat like I'm yawning, but I don't yawn. For the highs, I make my voice like I'm trying to talk like Elmo and just push the air out with my diaphragm.

Then when I'm done, I just drink water and have peanut butter lol.

Your throat shouldn't hurt if you do it right
