Moving Day
Posted 9 years agoI'm sure you've noticed by now that I've pulled all my submissions and mostly sanitized my account. The reasons why are quite a few, and most of them involving FA's lack of security, lack of uptime, and it's inability to move forward and embrace modern browsing and features it's competitors have. For those who still want to watch what I'm putting up, I've imported everything over to FurryNetwork and Weasyl. I'm still reachable via Twitter and more recently via Telegram since I've dropped Skype completely as of late. I'm going to keep looking on Weasyl and FurryNetwork for the artists I've got on watch/follow here. I also encourage everyone to branch out beyond FA, primarily because of how unreliable the site has become. In the future, I won't be commissioning artists that deal exclusively through FA either.

Posted 12 years agoOtherwise known as: FA is now a secondary gallery for me.
Dispite everyone's first reaction to seeing a journal of this nature, let me dispell right now the assumption that my re-classification of FA is related to the current hurricane of drama that's spewing noxious splatters of rank ass shit-stew all over the place. I have no outstanding issues with the admins/coders/operators of FA, nor do I intend to. My reasons are purely technical and site-specific in nature.
#1: Let's face it, FA is aging terribly. It looks, feels, and performs like a site from 2004, mostly because it IS a site from 2004 and hasn't had a single worthwhile update since. Since the launch of FA, the nature of computing has changed. Things are becoming more and more mobile, it's only appropriate that websites begin to acknowlege and reflect this trend. As of late, I've found myself attempting to access FA while on walks or otherwise away from my PC. I've got to say, it's quite the pain in the ass. Even though we've got bonafide fucking geeks running this place, there's still no mobile version of FA.. (For that matter there isn't a mobile version of IB or SF either) That just boggles my mind. Weasyl on the other hand does, and it works remarkably. If you're curious, take a look at the linked screenshots below from my two primary non-PC access devices.

Note that these are both 4.8 and 7 inch devices. Trying to display a site designed around 14+ inch displays doesn't translate down very well to sub 11 inch panels, moreso if they're using 720p+ screens.
#2: Unlike what appears to be most of the fandom, I can't stand My Little Pony, at all. I'd love nothing more than to not see artwork (or worse, porn) inspired by the show. Yet on FA, not a week goes by that I end up seeing it. Yes, I'm more than aware of the FA Filter addon for Firefox. Yes, I installed the addon instantly after learning what it could do. No, it doesn't work 100% of the time. Since it uses keywords in submission titles, it's very easy to have a submission/journal generate a false positive by using those keywords in a non-MLP related manner. At the same time, this very behavior also allows people to bypass the filter completely and deposit their odious prancing pony products into my inbox. If only there was a way to never see MLP again on FA... Oh, right, that's impossible without a way to blacklist tags. But wait! Weasyl has tag blacklisting built right in! And they have a 3 tag minimum upload policy! And they've got community tagging! That means that I never have to see MLP ever again, and anything that does somehow slip through I can tag myself and contribute to those who don't wanna see it either. Not to mention, it's site-wide. While FA Filter only functions with a users submissions inbox.
#3: There's more than just MLP I don't want to see.. There's a lot of other content that I really just don't want to see either. Don't confuse this with an 'I hate porn' mindset, as I enjoy porn. There are just some kinks I have no interest in ever seeing if I'm given a choice. Just like above, there's no way to filter this stuff out and FA's idea of a content filter is far too binary to take care of what I'm looking for. Yet once again, Weasyl comes to the rescue with that very same manditory tag/community tag system and the ability to blacklist tags.
#4: My gallery is a mess... Yet I can't organize or clean it up aside from putting things into scraps. Really? You're telling me I can't have a section of my personal commissions, a section for gifts, or a section for character examples. Way to go FA, because a lot more sites are doing just that and the praise for doing so is overflowing. Instead I'm stuck with these entirely too binary sorting options or ammending submission names to indicate what a submission is.
Hopefully, Project Phoenix addresses a most or all of these issues. But we've heard about updates coming and going for what is coming up on a decade now, with no tangible results from any of it. So forgive me if I'm just a little bit skeptical of the staffs ability to make good on their promises. They've made a lot of them in the past, then proceeded to bury them all when things didn't pan out, instead of admitting a given update is canceled or postponed. So until these above stated issues are resolved, my activity on FA is going to take a backseat and all new artwork will be submitted to Weasyl instead. I'm not fully abandoning FA, this is where all the artists are for the moment. I'm simply not going to be logged in anywhere near as often as I normally am.

Birthday Recap
Posted 12 years agoSo, yesterday I turned 28. I know that it's getting closer to 30, but I really don't feel all that old. How old one feels is a frame of mind and the sum of their physical ailments. I'm still young at heart and happen to be a fat bastard, so I guess that must mean that somehow I'm still 18. Yey me. But at the same time to acknowledge a few shoutouts and well wishes from friends and relative strangers.

I didn't really ask for anything this year, though there were certainly a few things that if I got them would have elicited a heck of a squee and hug out of me. Though I did get one random piece of artwork, from quofalcon. So extra hugs for them. All in all, it was a good day and certainly set the tone for the rest of the year.

Anthrocon 2012 After Action Report
Posted 13 years agoTuesday: Made the mistake of not going to sleep the night before I had to leave for Lewiston and catch my bus. But, I managed to stay surprisingly alert during the car ride down thanks to the parents of my roommate Nick. Got to the terminal right on time, thankfully. Ended up with a little surprise commentary because on the patches on the bag of holding, seems the guy was a big Nine Inch Nails fan. (Which I happen to have playing as I write this.) At around 0740 the bus showed up, on time for once. Last year it was insanely late. So I just boarded up, had my livebag stashed under the cabin and just went along for the ride down to Boston. Once there, we oddly were asked to de-board and step into the terminal for a 30 minute layover, even though many of us were just going right back onto the same hull. But after re-boarding it was a smooth run down to NYC. While I've been that terminal 9 times in the past decade, nothing ever really prepares me for just how fucking much I hate being there for more that an hour. This time, it was four and a half hours inside that cancerous station. Not to mention I inadvertently sat in some scumbag's discarded gum on the floor. Really, that terminal is just foul. So after four hours of that stupid shit, I was finally able to re-board for the Philadelphia leg of the trip. Even more boring until an unexpected and seemingly unplanned bus change in Philly. The replacement was still programmed with a Denver destination tag.
Wednesday: Rather uneventful at this point until arriving in Pittsburgh about 25 minutes late at 0630. Not that bad since I knew that
and
would be waiting for me in the terminal, which they were. Got in my first warm hugs of the trip and just kinda wandered around the Pitt. Shax was able to get into his room early, we couldn't without most of the party there. So Jesteen and I just camped out in the lobby with a few trips to the attached 7-11 before heading down to the Westin to pay
a short visit. By around 1030
and
showed up to the DoubleTree. Alty got checked in for the suite that he'd snatched up just as all of the other rooms in that hotel were vanishing. So we all went up into his room for a little while before choosing to get lunch over at Fernando's (Otherwise known as the Furryland Cafe). Then, in proper naval fashion, we stopped into the liquor agency on Liberty... Right next to Fernando's and Hanlon's. Grabbed up a retarded amount of booze, just really retarded. There was shit left over when I was leaving on Monday that got dumped. (I did save the Ryan's and Disarono however.) So we just waited around a bit for Cyn to arrive later that evening. While we waited, Alty unveiled the MK1 LulzMarine armor. I've got to say I can't wait for the MK2. The MK1 is massive, bulky, restrictive, hot, heavy, and complex. It also requires a team of two handlers to assemble around the wearer... Not good. I'll be drafting a few schematics for the MK2 when I get home... After finding out that the Zoo had opened early, Alty figured we may as well suit him up and give it a walk test. Let's just say that Lulz were had and that we found a few flaws in the suit that took Alty and Jesteen the better part of a night to repair/mitigate.
's flight got in around midnight, leaving myself and our friend
to pick her up to avoid the rape fee of the shuttle. The ride in was pretty uneventful except for a few hugs and a lot of kisses on my part. More affectionate hugging from the whole group and a check in later put us in our own suite, sadly 12 floors below Alty since the hotel was fucking packed for Anthrocon. We just hung out in the room for a bit before we all chose that showers and sleep were in order.
Thursday: We all started waking up around 1000ish to just walk around the Pitt, waiting for registration to open up. A bit of a boring day since the convention wasn't truely kicking off, not all of the events and panels had started off. So a few of us went to the zoo or hung out in the room. After a few hours of that, Alty wanted to give the suit yet another test run down to the Zoo. This time it went a little bit easier, but ended up with the suit being out of commission until Saturday for a heaping load of repairs and painting. At this point, we were starting to get a little worried, as our 4th roommate was incommunicado and late. Turns out
was delayed by idiot pilots and broken planes, but got in around 0130 while I was washing up. So finally, we were all at the hotel and ready to have a lot of fun for friday.
Friday: Got up around 1000 to help Cyn get her stuff carried down to the Dealer's Den for setup. Ran into
while heading back in for the massive clusterfuck line to get into the Den. Talked a little bit as we knew that it was going to be a while. After all, just look at the records for attendance... 5100+ furs/dealers... Gods damn. Once inside, I knew there was a few places I needed to go. Cyn's table,
's table to ask about my troll bridge (Failed that, for the record),
's table for a copy of '11 Laws', then to
's table for my adorable test tube. Found out that Lizardbeth partially recognized me and let me know that Drake had swung by already and picked up the clusterfuck of badges he'd bought for his friends. Ended up running into Drake over near Cyn's table and met
, gave him a hug for a little something that he did for Cyn back in march. Actually grabbed a can of Pringles for
as a bit of a joke, I just wanted to give him a little inspiration for the mountain of sketchbooks he's working on. Got to do a little more running around the Den and actually picked up a tail for Bethany while I stuffed quarters into Mossy's gumball machine, winning a free sketch (It's fucking adorable, by the way). Though we were sad to see that it was kinda coming apart on the belt-loops, crummy single stitching. Though her tail is now with Cyn being fixed up when work and classes permit it. Found out that just before I was due to leave for the
show with Jesteen, that Cyn had gotten a timeslot for a tattoo with
, so I sadly didn't get to see it being done. I really really wanted to see it though. Thankfully it was recorded so that I could at least get to watch, but I really just wanted to be there for Cyn while it was being done.
Saturday: A bit of an uneventful day with a few outstanding events. Ran into a fox trying to get people 'to swallow his seed', as he had a Fernando's bowl filled with sunflower seeds. Went up to the roof with Bethany for a little while, just taking pictures of what was around the convention hall. Played a few games of Magic with Beth. What really set this night apart was the sushi party that Cyn holds every year over at the Original Fish Market. I knew a few people that were showing up like
and Bethany. I was also told that
was going to be there too. What I didn't know was everyone else that was going to be here. This list isn't exhaustive, just what I remember: Das Bo Schitt,
,
,
. I can honestly say I was laughing my ass off at every single turn and leave here the words 'Endangered Bird Mating Season' and just watch the fun.
Sunday: Blah... It's a sunday, last day of the con and honestly the most boring of them. Nothing really eventful happened aside from Alty having to go home a day early. His leave chit expired on Monday, so being back before then was a good idea. Everything was winding down at the con, we were all kinda burned out and tired, but we got in a little more mayhem. Went down to the pool with Bethany for a little more swimming, just needing to clear my mind a little before I went to sleep.
Monday: Woke up around 1000 again and got packed up, Bethany and Jesteen both having set out earlier in the morning. We thought Scappo was going to be gone too, but he goofed up his departure date. After extending the hotel an additional day, I pretty much spent the time talking with him about a few topics of interest and hitting up the Subway. 2130 rolled around and alas I had to get going, after a heartfelt hug and send-off, I was on my way home to Maine. One last tweet in Pittsburgh from me read: "Good bye, vstpgh but alas my job needs me. As much as I'd like to stay where I feel most at home. But I will come back next year. ~Turk-E"

AnthroCon Meme 2012
Posted 13 years agoHow do you want to be addressed?
Sable
Gender?
Male, but sometimes even I forget.
Age?
351 Lunar Years (Try and figure that one out, brainiacs ^v^)
What do you look like?
I looka like a man.
Where/how can I find you?
All over the place, as for how... I dunno, might be in the Zoo or the Dealer's Den a lot.
How are you getting there?
Greyhound, for the third year in a row.
What hotel are you staying at?
The Double Tree.
Which days will you be attending?
All the days!
Do you do requests?
Requests for what?
Do you do trades?
Trades? Did AnthroCon get a barter economy now? How much booze is it for a conbadge then?
Do you do commissions?
Alas, I can't commission anyone to be an officer. If I did, the Pitts PD might Rodney King me.
Will you have prints, CDs, or merchandise?
No, because I'm all digital baby! MP3s, PNGs, and eBooks for me!
Will you have Art in the Art Show?
No, because that would mean I'd have to show off my profound lack of talent for anything not involving PCs or trolling.
Who will you be with?
My loving
, along with

and a special appearance by
What is your main purpose for attending?
To relax and love on Syrae.
Can I talk to you?
Sure, reguardless of my attitude at times, I'm well spoken and very friendly.
Can I take pictures with you?
Yeah, but let me know first. I'd like a copy too after all.
Can I touch/hug/cuddle you?
Yes, but have the respect and common sense to ask first. Glomp me unexpectedly and the Dorsai will have to escort both parties outside. And while the Dorsai are nice, I really don't think you want to see them angry... They're like Bruce Banner with pawprint shirts.
Can I hang out with you?
Don't see why not, could be fun.
Do you go to parties?
Parties with friends, sure. Parties with (to me) random people... Maybe, if they're in the same hotel as me.
Do you fursuit/costume?
Want to, but no. Too expensive and I've got better things to spend my money on.
What is the best way to reach you?
Text message, if you've been given my number. Or find my lovely busty ferret. If she's not at her table, then I'm bound to be found at her side.
Anything else?
Other than having a bit of respect and common sense near me, not really. But if you happen to have eau du fanboy around you, you're putting your body in the shower or else you get the hose again. I mean it, I HATE STINKY FUCKERS! Perfume's ok if it's not too overpowering.
Sable

Sable Drakon Acceptable Use Policy
Posted 14 years agoJust a little something to head off what may be, not to prevent anything that's actually occured. Inspired by events from AC2011.1Q: May I draw Sable Drakon?
1A: Yes, though depending on the content/context I will want to be asked first.
2Q: Just what do you mean by depending on the content?
2A: There are simply somethings that are radically out of character for Sable, and I don't want him involved with it. Period.
3Q: Ok, then just what things are out of the question?
3A: This is better answered by looking at the various ratings
G Rated Art: No consent is really needed, but I would appreciate a head's up on what's being planned
PG-13 Rated Art: Again, no real consent is needed, but I want to know what's being planned for the piece and I reserve the right to veto/revoke the character's usage.
R and X Rated Art: Consent is REQUIRED from this point on. I want to know the exact nature of the planned artwork and I reserve the right to veto/revoke the character's usage.
4Q: Are there any artists that are allowed to draw you without asking?
4A: At the moment, only
syrae-universe is allowed to draw Sable without my consent. She's got not only a good grasp of his design, but charactarization and motivations that I trust her to do the work. (After all, she's my luff and we communicate a lot dispite distance)5Q: Can I use Sable for a cameo in another piece of artwork?
5A: Yes, but it falls back to the content rules. I do enforce this.
6Q: Do I need to pay a royalty for using Sable Drakon?
6A: Only on commercial works (Magazines/Books/etc.). For personal commissions, never. That's just not fair to the little guy.
7Q: I notice that Sable's often drawn with 7 tails. While I understand he's a kitsugryph, do I really have to draw all the tails?
7A: If possible, yes. But I do understand that sometimes it's a bit much and I'm not an ass about the tails. So depending on pose, I'll allow up to 3 tails to be omitted. (i.e. Draw 4 tails)
That's pretty much everything, but this will be added to if anything more comes up.

LF Artist
Posted 14 years agoI don't do anything, don't know why anyone watches me. But, since you're all assembled here to watch me do absolutely nothing, I think I'll take the liberty to ask something. I'm looking for an artist for a commission. Someone reasonably priced. Looking for someone familiar with drawing powered armor, more specifically armor systems from WarHammer 40,000.
Subject Matter:
2 subjects, Male and Female.
Battlefield scenery
Female in Adepta Sororitas garb, male in Adeptus Astartes garb.
No more detail than that, don't wish to give everything away. Hopefully someone can be found to meet the above needs.
