A formal greeting... (kind of serious journal)
Posted 11 years agoSo, I'm realizing that I haven't put up too much personal stuff about myself yet. But there's kind of a reason for it. Starting up this account with the intention of creating a persona around this suit, Saiki, was more of a spur of the moment 'if I don't do it now, I probably won't' moment, and in doing so, I rose to a personal challenge.
I have been a fan and watcher of the furry fandom since about 2006, give or take a childhood of disney characters and cartoon animals. Now, I say fan and watcher, because for the longest time, I didn't even have an account, and watched as a guest. A big part of me heard the rumors, and I didn't want to admit that I too was part of the community, because at that point, I wasn't. I'd never met another real furry before, and the only things I'd ever heard were bad.
Yes, I saw the CSI Episode "Fur and Loathing". Re-watching it now is hilarious though.
But lets not go too far into that.
I've always loved anthropomorphic animals. I've always been an artist. I've been a fan of Anime and Disney, and Don Bluth, Jim Henson, Looney Toons, Aesops fables, the Redwall series of books (way back when I was in fourth grade, goodness that was so long ago), and even way back to the little stories about the Pokey Little Puppy and the Very Hungry Caterpillar. But I didn't want to be 'a furry'.
I got into cosplay in 2004-2005, near the end of middle school, and learned about anime conventions, or fan conventions in general, thanks to my best friend at the time. My first 'fursona' I created was probably inspired by either Sailor Moon, or Card Captors Sakura, because my best friend wanted to be 'the main character' and I always got to play the goofy animal sidekick. Which was fine by me, getting to play around as a cute little 'Super Deformed' or 'Chibi' version, and then in the heat of battle, I got to be one of the most BAD ASS creatures on the playing field *or maybe it was Ronin Warriors? Blackblaze was a BEAST*. I'm pretty sure Yoko Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho, or Helios from Sailor Moon could be counted as my first boy-crushes leaning towards characters definitely not human. Shortly after getting into high school, though, my best friend (my only friend that was going to the same high school as me) ended up moving away. Not just across town, but far far up north, and way back then, long distance calls were VERY expensive. Internet chatting was one thing, but we drifted apart quickly without the constant every day sillyness we used to have with school.
And then I was alone.
I was suddenly the awkward kid with no friends in a brand new school and no real drive to put myself out on the friend market. And for a LONG time, it stayed that way. I've always been shy, but I needed my BFF to be my 'wing man' and act as the catalyst to get me out of my shell, but now they were gone. I turned to the internet, haunting DeviantArt, occasionally touching base with people from middle school, but DA was a place for artists, and most of my friends didn't draw, so they had no reason to be on there. I didn't like chatting on line, mostly because I was very slow at typing and could never keep up with conversations in chatrooms. So for the next year or so, I was quiet. The 2006 school year roll around, and I was still the quiet creepy kid that sat in the back of the classroom drawing animals and animal people. The only time people would ever talk to me was if a project required something creative, and I would get swarmed, shut down, and just get my parts of the projects over as fast as I could. But none of it was real friendship. I mean, the only people that put up with me didn't even bother trying to talk to me over the summer. I was just the art monkey, and my art wasn't even good, lol.
Right near the end of 2006 I ended up following SOME odd links to find a couple of really impressive artists to this site called Furaffinity.net.
Welp. I was horrified, lol. Here I was, browsing this FURRY website, and I was liking what I saw (THANK YOU SFW FILTER FOR GUESTS! oh, the first time I logged in, haha). But I kept track of a good handfull of artists I really liked, saving pictures to my computer, keeping folders and floppy disks full of art work just in case I wouldn't find it again (oh god floppy disks... how.. dated XD. my old computer was CRAP.) It was well over another year of lurking before I created my first account, which was promptly logged out of and abandoned after I switched the content rating to 'show all' or whatever it is. I got scared away for about 2 months, but... i... coudn't for the life of me remember what I'd signed up as, haha. I still can't remember *shrug*.
But I'd try again, and over the span of about three years, I don't think I posted a thing. I never left comments, and I rarely faved pictures. I think the account is still in double digits on page views :P BUT I was determined to make an attempt at being more. Out there. But by now, I'd grown out of that current fursona, and moved on to another new account. But aspects of the former 'sona lingered. It eventually evolved into a secondary persona that was a shy little dragon that never really said anything. My new fursona was 'a fox' because I felt like it would be more energetic in my mind. It was a faulty attempt, and turned into another shy little quiet thing, and that account also melted back into obscurity. But during this time, I started to really push my art into a more serious direction. I wanted to make something of myself, become one of the artists that everybody knew!
But dang, that was scary. I didn't become famous by any means, but having people become casual fans of mine was almost overwhelming. I evenutally petered out that account as well, going back to a watcher for a while. I played with my style, and began contemplating the thought of fursuiting. It was amazing to always see these masterworks of costumes. My inner cosplayer was still alive and on fire, wanting to create again, but I couldn't wrap my brain around how these things happened? How were they made? I searched a few tutorials on here, and eventually made my way to youtube, and the video examples did amazing wonders to open my eyes to the techniques and the methods and the EFFORT that went in to making them. THIS was what I was missing! Getting my hands dirty, and burned, and poked, and cut, and just... INTO it!
But..
I... kind of sucked. A lot. It was embarrassing! But it was a start. I attempted and disassembled and reassembled and tore apart and molded and tossed away probably a dozen false starts on my first head. I'd gotten used to being good at a lot of crafts and creative venues, but it wasn't quite clicking, not like I'd wanted.
I had sculpture in my history, I'd taken classes in highschool and also in college, but the last few years had been lacking in the practice to accomplish what I'd wanted. But I was getting closer. I could model a nice structure in clay, but foam is a fickle mistress. So I tried and tried, but it wasn't right.
I scrapped the project in december of last year, starting up a new semester of college classes after taking a few years off to gain funds *cough figure out my major cough* and decided on something everyone can love and enjoy. Baking! Which took my mind off of the internet durring that time.
But in late april, the semester was over, and there were no classes available for me during the summer term.
So... I dragged out the foam again, but the previous projects were not 'right'.
I browsed FA, my history, my origins, and looked at the fur and bits and pieces I'd collected over the last year and a half. Originally I'd wanted to have made my fursuit in time for FWA, since it was one of the closest conventions I could make it to.
Didn't happen. I went to the convention bare skinned and I'd never felt more out of place. It was pretty miserable, but there was something that I loved far more that made me hang around for a bit before retreating to my room.
Watching the fursuiters. Seeing the fun, the mischief, the adorable fuzzyness. Watching them get away with MURDER more or less, and they didn't have to say anything. Well, most of them, anyway. It was raw emotion and action. There wasn't anything anyone had to really say or do to be able to walk up to someone they'd never met before, and just get a hug, or a high five, or just a happy smiling face because THEY WERE THERE!
I spent the entire weekend either people watching... Fursuit watching... from underneith an oversized hoodie, or hauled up in my room.
Talking to people on the internet has become second nature, but talking to people in real life? It's kind of terrifying outside of the couple of people I already know. The last 10 years of my life have turned me into something of a recluse that puts all my effort into the crafts I make and the art I draw. And while I'm definitely not as good as a lot of people, I want to get better. I want to be great, but I also want to stay out of the lime light.
I've been thinking hard the last couple of weeks this account has been live, about jumping head first into taking on suit commissions, about how Megaplex is less than a month away (and how I might have another convention inbetween now and then, thank you tampa!). I've been thinking about how in the last three days, I've busted out as many foam bases. Two days, technically. But I've loved the shapes. I'm PROUD of my work, and it's an amazing feeling. I'm happy my room mate and my signifigant other support me, that my formerly non-furry room mate has been open enough to actually get EXCITED about a suit of their own!
About the reactions I've already gotten from commissioners for their suits, or badges, and how I'm able to be just as excited back to them because I built up the character of Saiki...'Psyche'... noun... the human soul, mind, or spirit... as an outgoing, energetic, exuberant creature BEFORE I assumed the account. Making them gave me something to sort of 'live up to', and the last couple of weeks, my apartment compadre's have noticed.
The costume is almost done. The creation, the persona is almost ready, and I couldn't be more excited.
From now on, when I go to conventions, I don't know if I will actually walk around the common areas outside of the suit. Not yet at least. For now, Saiki is going to be my shield while I try to repair a lot of the damage that my teenage and not so teenage years have done to me, mentally. I don't have high self esteem. I don't like being in the spot light. I don't WANT to be 'FAMOUS'... but I want to be awesome. It feels weird to say something like that, but it's true. I like being in the shadows, and if I could, I'd want the character, or characters I can become to be the ones that get the attention.
Each one is going to end up as a different facet of what makes me Me. I have a lot, but not many of them have gotten to see the sunlight lately. So. This will be an interesting personal challenge.
It's taken a bit to actually put this down in words, and I'm sure I rambled off in several places, and this is probably not really well put together, but it's here now.

Taking a couple of foam base commissions maybe?
Posted 11 years agoMy tentative price range via suggestion is about $100 to $150(for stranger critters like a Rhino or something that'd need extra foam) BUT yeah :3
I want to definitely get more practice making some more foam bases. I've got 2 examples so far of my dogasaur (read: dog) and another that's a hyena for a commission I'm working on over on my FA
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13754616/ (Glowstick/Styx the Hyena)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13655939/ (Saiki the Dogosaur)
I kinda wanna try some other critters than just dogs, OR some interesting dog breeds that aren't just like, husky, fox, etc. The price is still pretty negotiable too, cause idk if that's really a good price or not *still getting all my prices squared away :P*

Made an amazon wishlist
Posted 11 years agobecause... why not? I've had a couple people tip me already XD So, there's either the option of doing that, or snagging me something nifty off my wishlist over here. It's mostly dumb baking/kitchen things and fur so far XD Fur can be whatever *but I'm really wanting to just... create a huge collection of furs for future projects and stuff, so anything from like, 1-5 yards of any of those would be awesome :D* and I do a LOT of cooking stuff, but our kitchen is still in the state of 'hand-me-down pots and pans' for essentials :P

Posted 11 years agoPartial for $300? -Taken :D-
Posted 11 years agoWell, not really $300(a little under), but a $300 used camera off of E-bay.
I've got my eye on this little nugget over here : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Nice-C.....p2054897.l4275
I've been wanting to get a nice camera for a while now, and since I'm gonna be starting up this fursuit thing for real, I want to be able to take nice quality pictures and not crappy ones off my phone *as well as be a total cam whore at cons and take ALL the pictures :P*
SO, I'm willing to offer a semi-partial(no feet), or regular partial (if it's a pretty basic pattern, no crazy spots or stripes or 9million different colors AND you'd need to mail me a pair of shoes if you wanted them build off shoes, or else they'll be slipper style feet) if someone would get this for me (or shoot me the money to get it) and I'll be handling getting the fur (up to about $90 bucks in fur, so like, 4 full yards and one half yard, ish of furs) and all the other materials myself. You would still need to cover your own shipping unless I can drop it off to you at a con. *Current convention line up is Megaplex, POSSIBLY FAUnited, POSSIBLY Midwest Furfest, and all that's depending on if I can get the fursuit business going well, cause fursuits will be my apartments convention funds :3*
It would take me a couple months (September at the earliest) to get it finished, unless I manage to get really ahead on stuff, which I'm trying to do. I'm going to be starting on the July and August suits this week as long as everyone gets back to me with the OK that materials are on their way, so It could be as early as august~.
Buuuut yeah. That or I'll maybe end up getting it myself in a few weeks if I get nice paychecks :P
Comment below if you are interested and we can talk~

Also, I figured out I horribly underestimated the amount of vinyl I needed, so I'ma need to go buy more before I can sew on the spikes/claws.
oops.
Buuuut I got the eyes in the head, and I'm debating on if I want to do the fur fluff or not. I put it on, but I think I like the head without it. It makes the ears get lost with it on. I'll debate for a bit and decide last minute, lol.
Aaalso, still looking to fill at least a 1 month 'space' for suits, so either a full suit, a partial and some parts(tails, hand/feetpaws, sleeves etc) or a couple of heads. o w o

almost done with Saiki's body :D
Posted 11 years agoI got it fully stitched and the zipper in. Now I just gotta finish the padding pockets, add spots and spikes, and make a bit of an adjustment to the neck line cause the head's neck doesn't cover it all the way *had a sneaking suspicion the neck hole would be too wide, and I was right :P*
Hopefully I'll get some nice turn around pics tomorrow~ or monday. maybe... not sure how fast the hand stitching is gonna go.

tentatively opening fursuit commissions....*hides*

PenguinBombSquad has first pick on if/when they'd want their head done thing but I'm gonna open for fursuit stuff for august, september, and october completion times! sorta? maybe? lol i have no idea, but people keep asking about it >w<;~my prices are heeere~
Head:$ 500 ||| Partial:$ 800 ||| Full Suit:$ 1200
Tail:$ 50 |||| Handpaws:$ 75 |||| Footpaws:$ 200 |||| Bodysuit:$ 450
Uh.. I SHOULD HAVE MY SUIT DONE SOMETIME IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS... but ... yeah.
super quick run-down, first payment is a non-refundable $50 and covers a 2-3 view full turn around of your character in my style, + detailed shots on how the paws and other stuff that's not obvious would look. Example Reference: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/13686974/
Character: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8956240/ (going with navy fur instead of purple to make the orange and green POP more :3)
If you don't like how your character looks in my suit style, we can cancel it here and that's the end of it.
After that is ordering the materials (by you, shipped to me) from the fur places and joanns for other materials (I'll give you the list, or make a wishlist specific to you for you to order and it'll be sent to me), which is a non-refundable material deposit (unless I cancel the commission on you and I've already started the foam work. See the TOS for more info).
After that, I work on the foam work/padding(if it has any) and send you progress. If it's all good, you paypal me the second payment (first was the $50 for the ref) which will be HALF of the remaining costs.
After that is paid, I will fur and finish the costume, sending more progress along the way, and BAM, finished costume(or pieces), and the last payment + shipping would come my way via paypal. We confirm everything, I double-check your address, and in a week or two as the mail system allows it, your new costume will be at your doorstep! :3
THIS IS JUST TO GATHER INTREST RIGHT NOW! I'm working on setting up an actual quote form thing somehow(somewhere?) to get all the needed info. But this CAN hold a spot if you'd definitely like something from me :3
tos and faq posted
Posted 11 years agoSo now I can finish my body suit... with.. some slight color adjustments to patterns and stuff.. *I... don't ... have as much of the purple as I though... SO gonna re-design Saiki a bit :P*
EDIT: Yeah, there was no way I was gonna be able to do up the purple right. I've got everything patterned out but the tail, and MOST of it is tacked together for sewing, but saiki now sports a grey patch on their back, as well as the white chest V wraping all the way around. And the teal is a bit more pronounced on the sides of the belly and runs down to the inner thighs, and a broader band at the knee joint *as well as being a little more splotchy*.... and they have a grey butt now :P
HOPEFULLY I'll be able to make the tail about the same, but IDK... I'm kinda sad I had to change the design, but there was no way I'd be able to get more of the purple *it may or may not have come from a walmart rug but it was just such an awesome color I had to grab 2* but I'm a bit too fluffy myself for the pattern to have fit u _u; Oh well. I'll probably revamp her in a year or two from the ground up after I get better at suits!
And now, back to your regularly scheduled journal.
I wrote up a Terms of Service, too, based on a bunch of different people TOS, that's still under construction, but yeah: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5835903/
And again, the FAQ I put up: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5835892/
AND I think I'm gonna start my basic pricing at:
Heads about $500
Partials about $800
Full suits about $1200(plantigrade).
Average canine tails will be about $50 (smaller will be less, bigger will be more :P)
Handpaws alone will be $75(palm pads included, finger pads +$25. Different colored fingers +$25)
Feetpaws will start at $200(BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE MAKING JUST FEET:I)
Bodysuits will start at $450(plantigrade).
Note: My prices are very floaty (except feet. I don't like doing feet) so if the design is something I really like, there'll be a discount for that, or something else, or if it's a super simple design, it won't be as much. These prices are based more on a 3 colored suit with markings sorta like a husky or fox with different arm colors or similar dificulty in markings!

exploring common fursuit prices
Posted 11 years agoOK, so like, I've been looking at a LOT of price guides for other makers (new, old, active and not) and I gathered up a BUNCH of prices for different things and marked down prices/ranges for people, then added them and divided for the average price on different things (The price next to what it is is the average):

ABOUT average, anyway, rounded to the closest $25. Now these aren't what my prices are gonna be, but idk what they're ACTUALLY gonna be. Just that this is sorta the middle of the road. Going by what I've got so far (the whole almost finished head and sorta DTD so far, lol) do you guys think these are decentish prices, or should I go higher/lower/how much? I mean, I know what I was sorta thinking when I went looking, but the prices I saw around were WAY above what I was thinking, even in the low range XD SO I HAVE NO IDEA.
ALSO I sorta think I know what I'm gonna be taking on each month for suits. I'll be doing
ONE full suit
-or-
ONE partial + 2 or 3 tails
-or-
TWO heads
I've got Glowstick for my July suit already, so the soonest I'd be ready to have another finished suit would be end of august... *flailwags* THERE'S SO MUCH READING FOR THINGS.... gotta make a TOS... and order stuff... and detailed what's what.... and... a web site? fuck, I'm bad at web things.... *whines*

FURSUIT TERMS OF SERVICE************************************
Posted 11 years agoSection Title
Words
CANCELING
All Commissions (sans tails alone) will come with a 2-3 view reference of the character done in my style for suits. (Non-refundable $50 value, part of the deposit/material costs). I will require your body type and height, or a photo of yourself from the front and side for design accuracy.I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL A COMMISSION AT ANY TIME, FOR ANY REASON, OR IF I FEEL THE COMMISSIONER IS BEING RUDE, PUSHY, OR GENERALLY A JERK TO MYSELF, MY FRIENDS, OR OTHERS ON MY PAGE. If I cancel your commission, you may either recieve the work and materials to date AS IT HAS BEEN PAID FOR (example: I'm past the finished foam work stage and the second payment has been sent, you may either get the foam work and materials in use as an unfinished product, but you will still pay shipping for it to be sent to you) OR, you will wait for me to complete what would have been your suit as an alternate design and receive a monetary refund (money) equal to what you have paid MINUS material costs and I keep all materials.YOU man cancel a commision at any time UP TO THE FOAM WORK STAGE. If I have posted the completed foam work, and you have sent me the first paypal payment (explanation below) I WILL BE COMPLETEING THE COMMISSION AND HOLDING ON TO THE SUIT UNTIL THE FINAL PAYMENT CAN BE PAID. If you cancel BEFORE I have finished the foam work, you forfeit the materials bought for the costume and may just walk away. Material payments are NON-REFUNDABLE, as I do not recieve the material payments directly (again, explanation below). I will not use your design for completeing the costume, but have the right to auction the partially completed costume to other individuals via Furbid/Furbuy/DealersDen/Ebay/Independently on FA, Complete the suit as one of my own, SELL the suit outright to another person interested in a costume from me, RAFFLE the suit as a free give-away piece, or complete the suit and sell the finished head/partial as a pre-made.
Prices
My prices are subject to change at any time, and unless otherwise stated, ARE NOT solid prices. Prices are a general estimate on what things may cost, but a '$500' starting price for a head may go lower if I really like the design. However, the price could also increase if I think it is going to be a more dificult, or if the material cost will go up from more colors.
Discounts and Dollar-Savers
You may only apply ONE discount per costume.
In-Stock Discount -$25 per yard off the material cost for any fur I do not have to order. If I have it already and don't need to order anything, that saves you about $25 out of pocket! However, if I end up needing to order more materials before your suit will be completed, that is counted AS AN ADDITIONAL COST to your material deposit.
Artistic Liberty Discount - Heads , Partials, Full - $50 Non-Refundable Deposit - Tell me your body type/Height and Weight, roughly and choose Main color, Species, Gender, basic pattern/theme. I'll draw up a design based on these things and you will get the character. After I've designed it, you may choose to cancel the commission and keep the character, or we will finish the commission and you will get the character and suit. Suit will be standard toony eyes, static jaw, and plantigrade. Also they will USUALLY be designed with the colors I have on hand. ALD suits will not be subject to increased prices for ordering fur. They are a set and static price.
Seasonal Species Discount - Every few months I will pick a species that I want to do, and will knock $200-$400 off the price for fullsuits (or $100-$200 off for partials).
Dino-hybrids!- Dinosaur hybrid or monsterish characters will get a 15% discount!
Ordering, Updates, and Deadlines
All Commissions (sans tails alone) will come with a 2-3 view reference of the character done in my style for suits. (Non-refundable $50 value, part of the deposit/material costs). I will require your body type and height, or a photo of yourself from the front and side for design accuracy.
I will start on your suit as soon as the suit before yours is finished! I will be doing these BY THE MONTH they are commissioned. Also, the month of your commission's completion means your suit should be finished sometime within that month. It may be at the beginning, it may be at the end, and in the event of delays, possibly the beginning of the next month(more on this below)! IF YOU NEED YOUR SUIT BY A SPECIFIC CONVENTION, please tell me the name, date, location, AND address of the convention hotel(or your hotel for the convention) in the event that I have to ship the suit to the convention itself!
Since I'm starting out, my due dates and deadlines will be more of estimates than 'yes this will definitely be done by then' though I plan to give myself PLENTY of time in the month to work on things. If my day job, college classes, or other life issues end up causing me more time away from working on things than anticipated, I will let everyone know VIA JOURNAL that things may be delayed as soon as I know about... well, delays. By commissioning me, you agree to understand that my day job, family and social life, and my relationships off the internet will take priority over working on suits. Things that may cause delays include but are not limited to Convention trips, family vacations(sometimes we go away for a weekend on the fly), school functions, birthdays, other holidays, illness, family emergency, pet emergency, overtime at work, extra hours at work (not the same thing, I'm usually scheduled one or two days a week, but sometimes I get put on for four or five days), mental/emotional exhaustion, or more. I am a human being with a semi-average social life, and while I often have access to the internet, I may not always be on or respond right away, but I will try to respond to any questions in a timely manner. I will provide updates at specific stages as I get to them. A lot of time the earliest stages of putting a fursuit head together(I'm finding) look horrific, and showing someone a picture of their head with the top jaw chopped off but the bottom jaw still on can be terrifying and, in general, will look nothing like the character at this stage. The same goes for partially furred or partially put together heads/bodies/paws. The stages I will provide update images for are as follows:
*Character design/reference - My rendition of your character via digital artwork
*Materials - Once all the fur and/or vinyl has arrived, I will arrange it and try to get the most accurate representation of the colors as I can. Keep in mind, monitors vary from person to person, so the exact hues may be a little off.
FOR HEADS
*Completed Foam Base - The structure is as close as I think I can get to the digital rendition. Feel free to point out changes or concerns you have at this stage, and I will fix what I can
*Duct Taped Foam Base - The final version of the foam base duct taped with markings marked down on it for placement reference and adjustments.
*Fully finished head - The fur has been applied and trimmed up and other features installed and the head is ready for wear!
FOR PARTIALS AND BODIES
*Finished Handpaws - Pads, claws, and finished cuff have been added and they are ready for wear!
*Completed foam on feet - Foam structure for feet has been fully carved and is ready for furring.
*Completed feet - Fur and ankle cuffs have been applied and are ready for wear!
*Finished foam work for leg padding - Padding is ready to be duct taped with the original dummy to create the new pattern.
*DTD with markings drawn - Markings have been placed on the ducttape pattern and are ready for cutting.
*Finished body suit - Fur has been sticthed, zipper has been added, and interior seams have been trimmed.
*Finished Tail - ... Finished tail.
If you would like additional updates, please discuss this with me before starting and I will try to make a note to take extra pictures of the progress.
Also, if you do not pre-arrange additional updates with me, I would be highly appreciative if you would keep 'Have you worked on my suit yet' messages to once a week.
I'm ecstatic you're excited for your suit, but constant questions on progress can make a suit maker feel very stressed and pressured to work faster than their comfortable pace (note: I've ganked this idea from a few people TOS, soooo, while yeah, don't be up my butt about your costume, it's totally cool to check in with me :D though I tend to picture spam like crazy when I'm working on something).
Payments
First 'payment' will be a combination of a few smaller costs. FIRST is $50 for the reference sheet(to be completed FIRST before materials are ordered. The commission may be canceled immediately after the reference is completed if it is not to your liking after working with fixes and adjustments) Next are the non-refundable material orders (explained below).Second payment will be half of the remaining costs to be paid upon completion of the foam work, and/or Padding for digigrade suits (or completed head, because sometimes I get carried away)Final payment will be paid upon completion of the suit PLUS SHIPPING COSTS! SHIPPING COSTS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE FURSUIT PRICE SINCE THEY VARY BASED ON ITEM WEIGHT AND DISTANCE SHIPPED AS WELL AS SHIPPING PROVIDER(usually usps or fedex)!
MATERIAL DEPOSIT AND ORDERING MATERIALS
COMMISSIONERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ORDERING FUR FROM APPROVED SOURCES AND HAVING IT SHIPPED TO ME. We will talk out which furs would look best for a character and I will let you know how much of each I will need. The average 3 color suit needs about 4 yards of fur(roughly $100 between materials and shipping costs from Distinctive Fabrics), as well as a pre-set amount of foam, polyfil, elastic, thread, glue, and extra materials that will be set up as a list to also be ordered from jo-anns. If I need anything else, I will have you send a small chunk of your second payment early via paypal and I will get it myself (sans fur, which will still be ordered by you to me in the same way and count as an ADDITIONAL COST to your first payment chunk. This will not take away from the cost of your second or final payments).
To make sure people have read and understand these Terms Of Service, please COPY AND PASTE this whole journal at the bottom of the 'Additional Info' section of your QUOTE FORM with the phrase "I (your LEGAL name) have FULLY read and understood SaikiSaurus's Terms of Service, and I agree to all rules and conditions therein." to the TOP of the quote form. Do not copy this paragraph.
Optionally, DVC (or other makers) fursuit parts (noses, claws, mouthbits, etc) can also be ordered and shipped to me for your suit at an additional cost to you.
Joann's Material Orders and Non-refundable deposit total.
I've set up a wishlist of items for what I'd need to get for EACH FULL SUIT. Partials, heads, and smaller orders will have a much smaller list. Additionally, this list MAY BE CHANGED based on the needs of the suit (resin for casting, vinyl for spikes/nose/tongue, fleece instead of cotton, etc).
DO NOT ORDER DIRECTLY FROM THIS LIST AUTOMATICALLY! I will give each commissioner a specific list to order(including colors for threads/materials)!
http://www.joann.com/on/demandware......waaade12pf5MYT
At the time of making this list, I also put everything into a check-out basket(some items were on sale) and the total came to about $100 after shipping, so for a full suit's non-refundable desposit, estimate the $50 for the reference sheet, $100 for fur, and $100 ISH for other materials for about $250-300 total. Once more, this is an estimate for a FULL SUIT!

Words

FAQ! *******************************************************
Posted 11 years agoSorta like an FAQ? but I haven't gotten any questions really yet that I could think would apply to a list like this.
Question:
Answer:
Ordering
Question:Hey, I want to send my deposit straight to you to order things! Why can't I?
Answer:Since I'm just starting out, I don't want anyone to think I'm just taking their money. Also, this gives people the ability to see JUST HOW EXPENSIVE the basic materials for making something like this are from a starting point and to know exactly what materials I'll be working with :3 It also lets me keep the money to come as a positive goal to work towards instead of having a big thing of money sitting right there with no reward for a completed job well done at the end *NODS*. I'm a really reward driven person, and I CRAVE positive feedback on finished projects, so having that goal to work towards and knowing I'll be able to FEEL rewarded as well as see the commissioners excitement at the end is a real driving force behind my work :3
Question:Where do you get your fur from?
Answer:My prefered place to order fur from is Fabric.com for their Luxury Fur (DF/Shannon Fabrics style). I also like to order from Distinctive Fabrics.com, Mendels.com, I'm Stuffed Furs for seal furs, FursuitSupplies.com, and occasinally other locations like E-Bay, Amazon, and other independent fabric seller sites.
Question:What about other materials?
Answer:Majority of the other materials will be ordered from Joanns.com. OTHER other things like fursuit pieces by other makers (Claws, hooves, horns etc) can be ordered from Dream Vision Creations(one of the most common/popular) or other makers. At the moment I have not worked with resin bases or realistic styled fursuits, though it is something I may consider doing in the future!
Head Construction
Question:In general, how are your heads built?
Answer:So far, I used a light cotton balaclava base with a sort of foam 'helmet' that covers around the face, over the ears, and around the crown of the head, but it doesn't cover the very top of your neck (where the back of the head starts to slope back inward past the crown). For now I use hot glue to keep everything together.
Question:How do you do head measurements?
Answer:UHHH... good question! Right now, I don't have any super special measuring thing, and I don't really know hoooow to measure those things on a face and translate it to a foam head, since I've only ever made heads intended for myself (and by heads, I mean a few shitty bases and this final one, Saiki, that's my first finished head).
For now, I'm going to start with a basic 'around the head' measurement and shoot for a pretty basic 'one face fits all' thing until I get better at figuring out placement for eyes/mouth/nose 'pocket' and all that. I MAY ask for a front on photo of peoples faces (+ a ruler across your forehead so I can get a good measuring guide) so I can better place where the holes for eyes and mouth should go, but this would be optional!
Question:What about fur? And the nose/mouth! How do you do that?
Answer:Duct-tape the head, cut the pattern, carefully glue each piece into place one at a time. I'll be offering both straight up glued fur and stitched and glued fur for an additional cost. Doing Saiki, there's only ONE place where I was a little bit derp where the fur edges lined up, but other than that, I'm really happy with how their face seams look with just hot glue, but I know some people swear by sewn seams, so they will be + $100-$200 based on pattern and shape dificulty(number of seams, basically).
The nose was hand stitched vinyl, but I'd really have prefered to machine sew it... but... I didn't have my machine here at the time, and who wants to wait :D
The mouth was a little bit fudgy. all the black trim on the face is actually a butchered T-SHIRT I'd had laying around for making my own shirts with printable transfer sheets (which ended up being really fucky, so I just had a bag of cheap jo-anns black shirts laying around, unworn :P). I may stick with a light cotton as the inner mouth fabric, or switch over to fleece... or both sometimes? idk, I just like how cotton doesn't pill like fleece. I've worked with it before, and after a while it always just looked crappy to me on whichever project I used it for.
Question:And eyes? What will you be doing for eyes?
Answer:Lol, no idea. I use a simple plastic base, default white, and for Saiki, I painted it with acrylic and gave it a few sprays with a resin/acrylic clear coat to seal it. The pupil will be a plastic mesh, also painted and sealed. I definitely like doing toony eyes, and my default so far (only) is sort of a hybrid of toony and following. They follow from the front angles, and from the far side, but the middle ground lets the suit still 'look' forward instead of always watching everyonelike the NSA.
Body time!
Question:Do you hand sew your bodies?
Answer:LOL oh hell no! Maybe some spots here or there, or tiny markings, but majority of the body is machine sewn.
I do hand stitch some of the edges together when I'm cutting/assembling the pieces to A) Keep the pattern together how it's supposed to go, and B) Make machine sewing easier, because all my ends will already be lined up, instead of having to use pins that just get really bulky and in the way when sewing.
Question:I noticed that the hands and feet were attached on your suit! Will you do that with all suits?
Answer:Nope! Only if A)The design calls for it, and/or B)Thats what the commissioner wants! I did them attached on Saiki because I wanted big blunt doofy paws, and I wasn't sure if the sleeves/legs would stay where they were supposed to be if I didn't attach them. For more normal, non-doofy arms/legs detached handpaws and feetpaws would work fine, and have at least a 5 inch, finished fur cuff.
Foot times!
Question:How will you be doing feet?
Answer:Feet will be built either on a shoe PROVIDED BY YOU so I know it will fit right (if it's a used shoe, please pre-wash it and put a dryer sheet and some baby powder/talcum powder on the inside of each shoe to kill any foot stank >_< that's just gross. I'll still be using an anti-bacterial disinfectant spray on the inside as well when I get it just to be sure,), and also, please pre-tie any tie shoes to where you can easily slip your foot in and out of, but done not so loose that the shoe will just fly off. I WILL BE HOT-GLUING THE SHIT OUT OF THAT KNOT.
If you don't provide a shoe for me I will need a measurement of your foot from heel to toe, and I'll be making big poofy paw-slippers that'll have at least a 2 inch foam padding on the bottom side of the foot.
For starters, I'm only going to be doing simple indoor style bottoms (All fur, no paw pads). I may add more styles in the future.
Bits and Pieces!
Question:Hey, I wanna get JUST hand paws, or JUST feetpaws! Can I do that?
Answer:Possibly! Handpaw sets are gonna start at $75, but footpaws will start at $200. Why? Because I've tried making footpaws before and I just HATE working with feet. Handpaws are no problem, but feet are so nitty gritty and just... bleh.
Question:What about a body suit?
Answer:I'll consider bodysuits on a case by case basis! Bodysuits are also the only cases where I will accept fur shipped from the commissioner and only fur that's visible on the adjoining parts (head, hands, tail, feet)! If there's gonna be a color on the body not on the other parts, it will have to be ordered from the source and shipped to me. ALL BODY SUITS REQUIRE A DUCT TAPED DUMMY that has been RE-TAPPED TOGETHER and your SIDE CENTERLINES, and FRONT AND BACK CENTERLINES (as well as BELT LINE) CLEARLY MARKED ON THE DTD.
again MARK YOUR BELT LINE PLEASE! I tried to figure out where my own tail was supposed to go on the DTD but it just turns into a floppy mess with no definition off of a human body, so unless you want your tail coming out your butt or the middle of your shoulders, MARK YOUR BELT LINE!

They follow from the front angles, and from the far side, but the middle ground lets the suit still 'look' forward instead of always watching everyone
I tried to figure out where my own tail was supposed to go on the DTD but it just turns into a floppy mess with no definition off of a human body, so unless you want your tail coming out your butt or the middle of your shoulders, MARK YOUR BELT LINE!
fursuit commision prices question
Posted 11 years agoOK, so like, I've been looking at a LOT of price guides for other makers (new, old, active and not) and I gathered up a BUNCH of prices for different things and marked down prices/ranges for people, then added them and divided for the average price on different things (The price next to what it is is the average):
Heads - $625

700-1000
Tails - $50

1200-1500
1400
1400-1600

1800-2400
*whines*

SO I'M DOING A FURSUIT COMMISSION APARENTLY
Posted 11 years agofor
Tailbiter of their ravey hyena character Glowstick http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8956240/ :D *we were talking about it the other day and then again, and some more, and it's gonna be awesome* oh man I'm super nervous ; w ;
hyenas are so hard to shape oh god

Posted 11 years agoSoooooo I'm gonna start 'the collection' for Megaplex room costs and stuff :3 I'm thinking I might say 3 days, sooo if I can get the con hotel, I'm looking at a total of about $300 for the room, plus about $30 a day for food things, so I'll just round my goal total up to $400!
That said, I'ma be doing badge commissions for moolah~ *and maybe some more finished pieces, but idk pricing on those~*
Badges I do are DIGITAL(meaning you print and laminate them) unless they are for pick up at Megaplex, where I can do printing and laminating and stuff and get badge clips and all that goodness :D
I've currently got 4 basic styles of badges ranging from $10 to $25 (the full body example's not a good example for anthros XD)
Badge and ART prices and styles: http://www.furaffinity.net/commissi.....s/saikisaurus/
I'm also gonna open up for Colored Sketches (soft shading and scribbly lines strting at $25) and Character Portraits (Cell shading and cleaned up lines starting at $40)
I'm also gonna be doing 2 kinds of Megaplex 'Candy Factory' themed badges (examples needed) of a partially unwrapped candybar version of your character (think reptar bars or easterbunnies or the cadbury eggs or something) and a 'trappeded in candy' version where I'm gonna TRY to snag some actual 'bulk candy' bags from somewhere and get actual candy to put in the bag with the badge. THIS ONE IS GONNA BE SUPER EXPERIMENTAL and idk how well it's gonna work. I MAY offer select candies only for this, like tootsie rolls, runts, butterscotch candies and so on.. I'd mostly like to go with wrapped candies for safety reasons(I know runts aren't wrapped, but they're so good! but this was just an idea :P
Candybar badges will run $15 to $20 depending on character dificulty
CandyBAG badges will probably start at $25 and go up with more expensive candies (badge price includes about a quarter to a half pound of the candy of your choice per availibility! I won't be adding the candy until right before the con, so if they don't have exactly the same candy you want, I'll try to find something as close to it as I can)
I also do derpy dino-fied reference sheets!
*Note, everything i draw has a dino/dragony/monstery twist to it~ if you'd like to commission me to draw something 'normal' there's an added price of +$5 and I won't be posting it in my gallery *because reasons, lol :P *
Comment below if you're interested! I'm gonna take as many as I need to to meet my goal :D
