Still Alive
Posted 3 years agoI am BAAAAAAD at updating this.
So...Yeah.
I'll be at IFC this summer. Maybe MFF in the Fall. Still debating if I want to return as staff for the latter.
I'm in Grad School now, so that, plus work, plus SCA are all eating my days.
Do y'all want to see the projects I've been working on? Because there are quite a few.

Been A While...
Posted 4 years agoSo, yeah.
I'm still alive. Guess it's been 2.5 years since I've posted anything.
My Medieval reenactment hobby ate my soul. Or something.
Still a fuzzbutt.

Moving On?
Posted 7 years agoSo, I'm thinking about deleting this account. I'm not, nor ever will be "popular" in fandom, and my art doesn't generate followers. *shrug*
It is what it is.
Plus, I need to pare down the websites I host my art on. I joined FA because it's where furry artists went after VCL lost popularity, but, frankly, I get more exposure for the style of art I do via Facebook and DeviantArt (where all of my -really- old art is hosted).
If folks want to keep in touch, I'm on Telegram, Twitter, Facebook, and can also be reached by e-mail.
I may change my mind. I'm giving myself until the end of the year to make a decision.

Posted 8 years agoBecause of work shenanigans, I'll only be at MFF for a few hours on Saturday. Come find me, if you wish.
IFC
Posted 8 years agoAs you've likely heard, I made the decision to step down from the BoD of IFC. The decision was not one that was made lightly, but will ultimately make me happier all around.
Tomorrow (in a few hours, really) I start classes to finish my BA in Spanish; I'll need to put more time, energy, and effort into my classes, and with IFC ramp-up happening at the tail end of my Spring semester, one of the two had to give, and I chose con.
The organization continues to thrive and grow, and I have nothing but love for the people who are still on staff. But, for me, that road is done.

MFF 2016
Posted 9 years agoI'll be there intermittently throughout the weekend.
Everyone and their mother wanted MFF weekend off for their own things, so, naturally, I got shafted.
If you want to see me, drop me a line on Twitter: SamiiAtCon.

Update Like Woah
Posted 10 years agoSo, many things have happened since the last time I made a substantial post:
- I worked as a Kitchen Assistant, Salesperson (Gods, I HATED that job, but I tried it to say that I did it), Customer Service Team Member (Cashier, promoted to Service Desk, then promoted to Service Coordinator and Cash Office [Basically, I was the equivalent of a shift supervisor for my department.]), and finally 911 Dispatcher.
- I got married to
playfulkitten89 on our 5th anniversary (May 15th, 2015)!
- I'm still in school. I have 2 semesters left until I graduate with my Associate degree and transfer somewhere to get my Bachelor's degree.
- I picked up a new camera and got relatively serious about doing photography (see the link below).
- I set the date for my first consultation for top surgery (yay!).

IFC 2014 Room Space Available!
Posted 11 years agoMy room is reserved for Wednesday through Sunday night/Monday morning.
How I traditionally do room-space is it's the cost of the room split between the number of people in the room per night. I do expect payment when you check in with me; it'll get deposited in my account to pay for the room. I'm typically quiet, keep my belongings centralized to one area, and am on the Board of Directors for the con. So, yeah. I'm pretty much in the room only to shower and sleep or if I need to retreat from con space for a bit, which isn't very often.
...And this is where I do number crunching for those of you who are potentially interested (and for my own sanity so I have an idea of how much it is). Please remember that these are approximate numbers and real numbers will be given once I have a billing summary from the hotel when I check in. It may be a tad more or it may be a tad less. These are a result of me putting together numbers from the room rate + tax rate.
I have a couple of options available:
Regular (Double) Room:
$115.85 ($99 + 17% tax) per night
$38.61/person/night for 3 people in the room
$28.96/person/night for 4 people in the room
Club Level Room: (Extra $30/night)
- Includes the following: breakfast, dinner (the hors d'oeuvres can be made into a meal), and internet.
$150.93 ($129 + 17% tax) per night
$50.31/person/night for 3 people in the room
$37.73/person/night for 4 people in the room
So far in the room is just myself and my fianceƩ and we're willing to host up to two more people. Interested? Drop me a line either here, on messengers, or via e-mail.

End of the Road (And Beginning of a New One)
Posted 12 years agoWithout getting into too many details, work and I had a parting of the ways last week. It was unexpected. Since I prefer to be proactive rather than reactive, I'm looking for work.
Looking for work for me includes retail and "traditional" avenues, as well as looking, well, here.
So, I'm taking commissions for tribal icons and badges. I'm willing to take 10 commissions right now, and rotate in first come, first served style as I get them completed.
Tribal Icons can be a fursona, a general animal, or an object. In the case of the fursona or animal, only the head will be used for the icon.
Tribal Badges can be full-body or head-only. For the black tribals, I will only use black ink in composing them. For the color ones, I will try to match your fursona's color scheme the best I can without compromising the integrity of the tribal design. All badges will be laminated and sent with a badge clip.
All customers will receive updates as I complete sketches and inking. For traditional badges, customers will receive an update to the final product before their badges are mailed out. If you are in the Chicagoland area, your badge can be delivered to you in person.
Examples of my tribal work can be found here in FurAffinity.
Prices are as follows:
Tribal Icons -- $15 (No Background) / + $5 (Background [Gradient, Solid color, or striped])
Traditional Black Tribals -- $15 (3.5"x5") /$15 (4"x6")
Traditional Color Tribals -- $25 (3.5"x5")/$20 (4"x6")
Digital Black Tribal badges -- $25 (3.5"x5")/$25 (4"x6")
Digital Color Tribal badges -- $35 (3.5"x5")/$30 (4"x6")
Payment is by Paypal (samiitiger@gmail.com) or in person if you live local to me and must be made before work can begin.
If something comes up where I'm not able to finish the commission within a reasonable time, I will let the commissioner know and speak with them on a one-by-one basis.
Thanks for reading, and happy commissioning!

Post-MFF
Posted 12 years agoFor a large con, MFF had the same feel as Old RCFM... And it was wonderful.
Kinda missed the ability to stumble up to my room at the wee hours of the morning (from exhaustion or drinking), but it was still nice to come home and recharge and play with Ghia every day.
I managed to avoid spending all the money in either DD or AA, but got business cards from folks and also did some much-needed networking for IFC.
I also managed to eke out a bit of time to car-geek with Commander Kitsune and Rustitobuck, and really enjoyed it. They've got Subarus, and it's really neat to hear how passionate they are about their cars and the lineage. Small things.
I think that next year, I'm going to try and get a room again. While commuting wasn't bad, I would like to fursuit again and also have the ability to drink with folks. Won't drink if I'm driving for my safety and that of those around me.
I didn't really get PCD this year, and I would hazard that much of that is due to the fact that I wasn't constantly immersed in con. I had con in moderation, so I was able to adapt better.

IFC, Day 1
Posted 12 years agoYou know what makes me really, really, REALLY happy?
We sold out the Dealer's Den. And Artist's Alley has 2 spaces open.
We have over 25 dealers, and most of them are an absolute pleasure to work with. While some things will be changing for 2014's process to make things more awesome for everyone on both sides (vendors AND staff), I am thrilled beyond belief that things are going as well as they are. For my first time coordinating and planning a Dealer's Den and Artist's Alley, I am happy that my dealers are happy and that many of them want to return in 2014.
That said, I know it's only Day 1, but I would like feedback on things that could be improved for 2014. I'm already making my list (and we'll be checking it more than twice), and I want to incorporate feedback from both attendees and dealers alike.
tl;dr -- Please feel free to link to and direct people here for feedback.

Brimstone
Posted 13 years agoAlex made bandanas a few years ago that all of the RCFM staff wore pretty much all weekend in honor of Furp. I do believe I'll be digging mine out for this weekend and wearing it in honor of Brimstone. Though I'm no longer RCFM staff, I'm still part of the RCFM family and I would definitely say that Brim impacted my life for the better. He and I had tons of friendly banter about our chocolate concoctions over the years and he was simply Good People. Though I haven't seen Brim or been to RCFM in a couple of years, he was still a friend and will still be missed.
May Dragons light your path, Brimstone. I'm sure Furp's waiting with a drink or two for you.

Transitions
Posted 13 years agoWritten on May 11th, 2012:
I have been mulling over the past few hours how to start this post. The past few days, more or less going on a week, have consisted of me pondering between downtime at work (of which I have had plenty of this week) and my commute between work and home the subtle clues that have led me to now, where I have slowly been coming to terms with and embracing my identity not as a quirky genderqueer-identified female, but as a confident Female to Male transgendered individual.
I'm far from being out to family. In fact, to be honest, the first person I tell family-wise will probably be the cousin who has been the most vocally supportive of me, particularly in recent times. But I will get to my plan of attack later. Right now, I'm sitting here pretty amused that I can trace identifiable behavior patterns back to the point I started watching MMPR and wanted to be the Green Dragon/White Tiger Ranger. xD So, roughly 10-11 years old. Or thereabouts.
I had the standard Black upbringing - homosexuality is a sin and gender stereotypes are pounded into one's head - that was made worse when I came out as a lesbian. Technically, I described pansexuality to my mother when I came out, but still. I passionately argued my case for wanting to wear a tux to prom (and still was made to wear a dress, which I still have). And then NIU happened. NIU brought some amazing discoveries of self even though now I'm bearing the financial repercussions. I wouldn't change any of it, though. Not for the lessons I've learned and the people I've met and networked with over the years.
NIU. My Freshman year at NIU, I got heavily involved with Prism, the LGBT organization on campus. And somehow got persuaded/asked to be the Homecoming Drag King. And I loved it. I learned how to bind, albeit with vet wrap, but still. Sometime during that year, I also started researching various packing devices. I was allowed to explore my gender identity and sexual orientation freely since I didn't have prying eyes, and I did. Well, the best I could at a university, anyways.
Fast forward to 2007. I met Sabrina. At first, I was very interested in her romantically, but that soon fizzled out and we became very good friends. At this point, I consider 'Brina my sister, and when I mention my family, I have to specify which type I mean -- blood, or friend-family. Brina moved in with me at the apartment in Elgin in 2009. What this meant is that I pretty much watched her transition from its start to where she is now.
What this also meant is that I took a closer look at my own gender identity. Brina and I have had countless discussions about gender, sex, and everything in the lexicon between. Brina arguably knows me better than most people do. When I say she is my sister, I mean it. She's someone I would step up to defend in a heartbeat, but who I would also clue-by-four when she needs it. We're a bluntly honest couple of folks. And she was also the best roommate to date who I wasn't romantically involved with.
In 2010, I purchased my first binder. I started off wearing it intermittently because I wanted to test the waters, but now I wear it on a daily basis.
Roughly a month ago, I had my mental breakdown due to unrelated causes, and I sat and figured, you know what, I've gotta rebuild myself after this, anyways. Why not just start from the ground up and start over? And that's what I'm doing. After multiple days of contemplation, I decided to meet with my HR manager and begin the process of transitioning at work. Out in the "Real World", I pass as male without really trying and I've used male pronouns (at least in the BDSM world) for the previous couple of years, so why not?
For a while, the character of Samii Tiger was able to shift gender and shape to reflect me being first genderfluid, then genderqueer. It eventually got to the point that I shifted solely to being "male" as that character and it was comfortable.
So, yeah. This is where I'm at currently:
- I'm from California originally, so I'll be poking at Fyremane at some point to ask her about what I need to do to get my birth certificate changed out there (she's native to Cali, too), and I suspect that the IL Driver's License won't be much of an issue.
- I have yet to come out to my family. I figure that I'll start with my dad's side since they don't have a whole lot of contact with me. I won't say it's "not a big loss" if they stop talking to me because, even though I've never met half of my siblings, they're still my family and the thought of losing them or their support hurts.
- I will not be changing my legal name. For the longest time, I've refrained from using my full middle name on any legal documents and I will continue to do that. I was given my middle name in honor of my grandmother, and I will keep it for that reason. My grandmother was a fantastic artist and a spit fire, and I got some of that personality. My legal first name just fits me too well and I identify with it; I'm just lucky that my mother unknowingly gave me an androgynous name. xD
- Hormones. I'm in the process of doing Insurance Open Enrollment for work. You can bet that I'm moving up to a better grade of insurance, especially since I'll be working with my doctor closely on figuring out where my testosterone levels are at currently and what-not, especially since there may be complications with me taking any hormonal supplements/replacements in conjunction with some of my existing medication. We shall see.
- Surgery. Is at a maybe. Right now, I can bind sufficiently to pass as male, and I look hella good when I do it. I'm also reluctant to do a surgery that is purely for cosmetic purposes.
- Body image. I'm relatively okay where I'm at. I could stand to lose some of my pudge, but as far as physical dysphoria goes, it's at a minimum. Gotta say, though, that it would be nice to not worry about the social taboo of having female breasts exposed, though. Ah, well.
~ ~ ~
For me, it's off to the shower so I can get ready for my day. I found out some news this morning that still has me a bit sad, but I know my friend is doing the best thing for her family. I do love that no matter how long it is between when we talk, my friend and I always pick up where we left off. I suspect that whenever it is that our paths cross again, it'll be the same.

Posted 13 years agoYesterday evening, I sent my "coming out as transgender" letter to my team. Today, my HR Manager told the management team. So, at work, I'm finally male!Tiger. Finally. And you know what the best part of this is? None of the managers or supervisors are giving me grief (at least to my face). I'm still the same Tiger they know and have a love-hate relationship with... Just more comfortable and relaxed. I would never have been able to come out at my last job because I wouldn't have had the support of my direct manager and the rest of the LP Management team. Here at my current job, though, the management team is incredibly supportive.
And I'll be honest. Being vain for a moment, I think I'm hot as a guy. I make a terribly awkward woman.
But, yeah, the journey is far from over. I still have my hackles raised about which bathroom to use. I honestly may ask if the office bathrooms could be designated non-gender specific; there's no difference between them. We'll cross that bridge later, though.
~ ~ ~
Step by step, things are happening in Life that are making it interesting.
- After having a mental breakdown almost two weeks ago, I'm rebuilding walls that I need and trying to reincorporate friendships and relationships in a much more healthy way for me.
- My father was sent to the hospital last week for having excess fluid in his body. Several liters were drained and tests were run on him. Congestive heart failure, which means that I need to start squirreling away money for a trip to Alabama sometime in the future. I. . . honestly don't know how to feel about this. On the one hand, I know Dad's basically one foot in the grave. On the other, Dad hasn't been there for me at all and I still have a great deal of resentment for him for that, even if I'm okay with him in general.
- I tossed my hat in the ring for the Coach (Supervisor) in Training position at work. The interview will likely be later this week. I don't expect to get the position, but I'm certainly going to give it my all anyways. ^_^
- I made Alligators with one of E's minions on Saturday. They're time-intensive to make, but pretty fantastic all the same. I'm stupid!happy with the fact that I learned how to make something that I grew up with. And what's even more amazing is that I made homemade almond paste to go in them. Murr.
- I had the first of many meetings with our 2nd shift Operations Manager last night. These meetings will be geared towards me learning about how our operation runs and getting me more integrated in the logistics component of our facility, making me more valuable not just to my current company but to other companies down the line.
-- Related to this, he also gave me a challenge. He knows I have a lot of energy and drive to change things for the better, but, sometimes, that can brush people the wrong way, as it has in the past. His challenge to me was to take things slow and do things on a small scale; get down on a personal level with individuals or small groups and win them over that way.
