In order to blend colors the way I want, I assume I have the lighter color down with the darker on top. When I do blend though it does not create a gradient look like ...
I've looked at some of Blotch's work to try to get a sense of what is done there, knowing that markers are used for the comic pages.

Art Sketches! PLEASE READ!
Posted 17 years agoSince I'm not doing my art then I'm going to try to get sketches up of characters I never finished. Give me comments on them as I put them into the scraps file and tell me if you think they have any potential. I'll be trying to do at least one every night, so if I don't come up with something by 11:00 every night, yell at me and I'll see what I can come up with.
The goal is to not only get me into art, but to also get good feedback from those watching me and to get use to a webcomic-schedule.

My comet goldfish died ;.; Longest living Goldfish yet. He lost equilibrium yesterday and I took him out of the water into a new bowl. He looked better after awhile, but was still slow. I waited a day to clean out the fish tank, and when I did he had lost equilibrium again so I stuck him into the freshly cleaned fish tank.
He sunk to the bottom breathing slowly. I knew that at that point it was either he pulls through or he doesn't. I waited and I just checked now and he's not breathing and stiff.
*sniff* I'll miss you Dithers ;.; I named him after the Dithering Tool in Adobe Photoshop. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dither Dither fish is also a term for some breeds of aquarium fish to keep the timidity of the Cichlid fish in check. I did not own this kind of fish, and comet fishes are not dither fishes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dither_fish

Concern with Bare Belly Photos on FA

bigbelf posted a photo of a belly, probably his, which got a lot of attention from those who do not like bellies.
Using an FA rule the situation was 'defused' by eliminating the picture. Essentially if you would be kicked out of a restaurant for not wearing a shirt, then it shouldn't be on FA.
Several people thought this was unfair towards those with less than "societal perfect" bodies. The admins so far have tried to steer clear of this.
bigwolfbebad was kind enough to then show in his journal http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/296753/ a somewhat long list of the photos he had been able to find that violates the "rules" of FA.
I do not comment on drama, but this one reeks of hypocrisy. I would largely blame this on two factors. One, FA is less an art site for some and more an image hosting site. Photos will be uploaded from cons and shirtless boys and nothing will ever stop that. Hell, I've been loading those too.
Second is that there is no good separation from art and photography.
Photos are shown in the "Recent Artwork" section, and it would probably be nice to differentiate between con pictures, miscellaneous pictures, and artistic pictures in photograpy.
Also .... finally getting that SEARCH mechanism would help those wanting to browse through the database. However, Its been so long without one of those we can all give up hope on one :D
I would like to see this addressed. I'm not sure of the whole story, but from what I've learned already it's a gross overstep and miscalculation on the part of the administration. Defusing a flame war in comments by eliminating the picture is not always the best solution. In comparison to the large amount of pics that HAVE been found of thin guys, this is pure weight-ism ... or some equivalent word.
P.S. To clarify: I do have bias as I am attracted to Bellies myself. I am thin irl. However, most of this came in response to seeing the long list of photos, not my love of bellies.
I think it's obvious what needs to be done. Going through the entire database and eliminating pictures of equal value to the pictures of bellies that were deleted is impossible.
Justifying the elimination and refusing to eliminate any other picture is discrimination ....
Therefore the belly photos, if they are only bellies, should be allowed regardless of any backlash from complainers.
Beauty includes many things, but it is humans that are picky.

Dragoneer fixed my stats on my page so it's more accurate. Horray! I'm so happy. I'm about 50 or so away from my first 1,000 views. That's special to me :) Thanks guys.I hope to one day get this ball really rolling, and be proud to have my firsts 10,000 views! I've got plenty of positive feedback this time around, and I'll be coming out with a few more pictures soon. Once I feel comfortable, I'll start with some Con Badges. I know there's a market out there for them with my friends and fans :D
In other news, I'm looking around for an apartment/job in my area (Vermont). I need to do something, and since I'm not getting any headway into moving out of this state I better at least get something temporary here.

Getting through Life
Posted 18 years agoI have no job and should be homeless at the moment if it weren't for my parents. My issue is that I have no motivation, and I don't know why not. I've got a college degree, americorps volunteering, internship at a historical society, and bartending certificate, but I just don't have the drive to move some place and start up.
Any suggestions would be nice, but I've heard most of them by now. I've thought about living in Columbus area again since I know it well and have a few friends there. I wanted to live in Orlando at one point, but no longer, and I know I'd be welcomed with open arms in Portland Oregon, but I don't like how far it is from everyone here on the east coast.
That being said, my art has suffered because of this mild depression. However, I hope to have something up soon for you all. Dragonish character, and tastefully nude.

Who has a DS?
Posted 18 years agoI'm thinking of buying a Nintendo DS with the money I got for Christmas. It would be nice to have a hand-held. The last one I had was a GameBoy Color, which still works amazingly well, but it's out of date and I can't find games for it anymore.
I was wondering how many here have a Nintendo DS, and what games they recommend.
I would get Picross and Puzzle Quest most likely. Styles of games I like go from puzzles games like the ones mentioned, classic side scrollers, and anything turn-based RPG ...

I will be bringing some stiff paper along with my sketch book to sell off Con Badges. Unfortunately I do not have Lanyards or Badge Holders and will have to buy those at some office depot. I'd like to get the 3x4 size ... or is it 4x3 ... err ... well that size. Hopefully someone can drive me to Office Depot to get some.
I'm hoping to finish up some art here before I leave.
I'll be rooming with Exile. That fuzzy fuzzy little man. And I hope to be able to say hi to several of you.

Posted 18 years agoWell, I cleaned out my Beta fish bowl. Putting the little guy in a jar of water first. I got it all nice and set up and put it down to let the temperature settle. But then I fell asleep.
When I woke up the fish was gone from its jar. It jumped out and fell down behind my bookcase and dried up.
No tears shed, but I feel awful. I should've put the cover on top of the jar. I usually do, and I shouldn't have fallen asleep, it wasn't even time to sleep yet. So I feel like my depression lately is indirectly linked to its death which bothers me a lot. I didn't even know I was getting the fish, my dad gave it to me. That's what bothers me the most. Was that he gave it to me.
Constantly reminding myself that it died a slow drowning death in a dark secluded place doesn't help either. (I'm going to go practice channeling these awful feelings into drawing.)
But it's water under the bridge, and though I feel horrible it will all pass. I'll bury the fish (never like flushing them), and keep care of Dithers my goldfish.
I would like, however, to name the fish i killed. Any suggestions?

Posted 18 years agoSome real tough shit has been gong on in my life. Along with the ending of both my jobs, there has been some recent family-drama that has been hard to deal with. Very hard to deal with.
I can't say what's going on. But the end result is that my brother has not returned home in two weeks, and has not talked to me or my parents for just as long. I have no idea what will happen. And it's just a pile load of crap.
As such. I have not drawn. I don't even want to lift my hand. I barely even type online. I have commissions and gifts out there to do, I know.

This is NOT a sexually transmitted disease, but can cause a lot of headache for men with an extreme case. I myself spent a long time in high-school wondering why the hell I had an STD (I thought it was warts) when I hadn't really done anything. It took a dermatologist (who refused to give me treatment) to tell me what they were. I did not get them sexually. I was born with them and I hadn't realized it until they became more pronounced.

"Aye its Sammie! This my new number save my shit and hit a bitch up!"
To which I took the phone up and wrote:
"Sheila no longer has this number. You just called my 58 year old minister mother a bitch :)"
(Technically not true, but it was funnier this way)
A response came back:
"I am so sorry"
To which I replied:
"Its okay. Made me smile at least. And mom is over it. TY for the apology :)"
"Aye its Sammie! This my new number save my shit and hit a bitch up!"
To which I took the phone up and wrote:

Next Step
Posted 18 years agoI didn't get as many watches and favs from my new art as I would have hoped. However, I'm not depressed over this at all. I've never had the recognition that others have, mainly because I've been slow at producing art.
I've noticed that there are three keys to increased recognition and exposure.
1) Receive Comissions and Gift Art of your character. If you at least have a few pictures of yourself from other artists people will recognize you through their enjoyment of those artists. I've noticed that this has happened with people who aren't even artists/writers.
2) Offer at least con badges. People take notice of a con badge because they are everywhere at the conventions. it's quick easy dirty exposure. Make them look nice and people will jump for joy. I must have gotten four or five other people wanting a Likeshine con badge after they saw mine.
3) Have some artwork displayed by some publication or another artist. I'm talking about those magazines and webcomics guest weeks. For FurAffinity lovers, this would be the "light/dark banner". I've been told repeatedly that after a banner is put up the artist's FA page jumps up in the number of views dramatically.
All this is pretty simple, but for me I've A) Never cared for buying art of my character. Always thought it was a bit egotisitcal, though I'm beginning to change my mind. B) I don't make enough art to warrant selling con badges, but I'm hoping to change THAT soon too.
I'll have to cook up some ways to get some recognition. One of those will be CON BADGES. ... now HEADS UP to all interested in a con badge ... Soon (not right now) I will do one of those "First 10 people to respond to this post ..." This will get me quick and easy art out there for recognition. I'm warning you because I hate it when I don't catch other artists offering the such.

I've noticed that there are three keys to increased recognition and exposure.
1) Receive Comissions and Gift Art of your character. If you at least have a few pictures of yourself from other artists people will recognize you through their enjoyment of those artists. I've noticed that this has happened with people who aren't even artists/writers.
2) Offer at least con badges. People take notice of a con badge because they are everywhere at the conventions. it's quick easy dirty exposure. Make them look nice and people will jump for joy. I must have gotten four or five other people wanting a Likeshine con badge after they saw mine.
3) Have some artwork displayed by some publication or another artist. I'm talking about those magazines and webcomics guest weeks. For FurAffinity lovers, this would be the "light/dark banner". I've been told repeatedly that after a banner is put up the artist's FA page jumps up in the number of views dramatically.

Shark Mark
Posted 18 years agoMy real life name is Mark. It Rhymes with Shark. That is NOT the reason why my first fursona was a shark though. It has more to do with the fact that my highschool mascot was a shark.
I'm changing to a shark for awhile. Been feeling more aquatic than Dragony.

Catch Up
Posted 18 years agoUgh. Reading Harry Potter at night and dealing with Barre Homecoming doesn't help my art. But I'm getting back into the swing of things as both of those are finished with. One particular pic is becoming more of an ink job than I though it would be.
One other picture is becoming a curiosity. It's of a person that I've not told them yet I drew. Should I tell this person that I've drawn them before I show it off?
I hope people are doing okay out there.

Progress and Commission Con Badges

Sketching: Various Pieces, none have been given a green light to continue.
Inking: Two pieces. Right now codenamed Husky and Dragon to keep you all in suspense. They're ready to be inked.
Coloring: Deer Grazing is ready to be colored.
Review: I'm going to review "Little Red Soul" I think I might try a blue wash or a yellow wash to make it appear more "outside".
