Commissions - Job Situation
Posted 6 years agoHoping for nice cheeses and maybe a beer. My needs are simple. ^^
EMERGENCY NOTE
Posted 8 years agoI am continuing to work on the few commissions that I have, but I do not know what I will be able to do in the coming future. My unemployment benefits have run out, and only one out of probably a hundred applications garnered so much as a first interview.
This means I will likely have to take multiple desperation jobs which will snap shut most of my available time, and that's IF I can even get anyone to hire me in the hopefulyl VERY near future while I have to deal with the massive weight of medical bills from my recent hospitalization.
It has not been a great year for the Sarsis family, and it's not about to get better.
I feel hopeless, defeated, and numb.
I'm not trying to get 'nice things', I just want to take care of my family.
Why won't this world let a hard working, intelligent, highly capable man take care of his fucking family? What did I ever do that was so wrong?

Emergency
Posted 8 years agoI am opening for commissions for a limited time because I have been laid off from my job. As a diabetic, my medical expenses are high and I kinda have to have my meds... so I am open for commissions and donations both.
For commissions:
Sketches (Bust): $10.00
Sketches (Full Character): $15.00
Sketches (Full with Scenery): $20.00
Ink (Bust): $15.00
Ink (Full Character): $20.00
Ink (Full with Scenery): $30.00 (depending on complexity)
Flat Color (Bust): $18.00
Flat Color (Full Character): $25.00
Flat Color (Full with Scenery): $40.00 (Depending on complexity)
Full Color (Bust): $20.00
Full Color (Full Character): $35.00
Full Color (Full with Scenery): $50.00 (Depending on Complexity)
Additional characters in the same image are half-price of selected level. So, having two full color characters with no scenery (on a single color or gradient background), would be $52.50. Having three sketched characters with scenery would be $30.00.
Thank you for your participation and help!

Open Question
Posted 8 years agoIf I hypothetically were to write a Zootopia fanfic, something in the PG-13 range or so... maybe a bit of adult humor but no sex... would anyone here care to see something like that?
No digital art for a while
Posted 9 years agoSadly, during my move from Dallas to Atlanta it seems that my Wacom Intuos 3 tablet pen was lost. I have the tablet, but no pen. I will not be replacing this any time soon because we have a lot more important recovering to do from the move. I'm not dead, I just can't do much art for a bit. Until then, keep loving each other fuzzies!
Zootopia (NO SPOILERS) (LONG WINDED)
Posted 9 years agoI went to see Zootopia last night, and wanted to give my overall feelings about the movie. I may revisit and to a 'review' but that would contain spoilers and I will wait at least a few weeks to give more folks time to see it before I do that. AS A WARNING, things appearing in the comments below will more likely contain spoilers as I am open to folks discussion their feelings as well there, and I only promise no outright spoilers in this article itself.
First, my overall FEELING about the movie.
Satisfied. I am extremely satisfied with what was produced on the five criteria for which I intended to enjoy the film (and yes, I went in with the intention of enjoying it, not criticizing it, so I am a miserable critic) They are as follows:
Animation: I'm going to see an animated film, so the animation is kind of important. The movies was beautifully animated and while I am not sure what new technologies were being used with this film, it felt far more rich and involved than pretty much any CGA film I have seen to date. The world is busy, the world is colorful, the world pulls you in. What I liked most is that they did not seem to be afraid of having a lot going on in each shot despite how much more time and effort and manpower that likely took. A shot in a regular movie with five people doing their own thing in a scene takes a few minutes and maybe a couple of takes to get right. With animation like this, it's dozens of people hours and hours, and Disney still went for broke and did it. Top notch.
Characters: As a writer and a cartoonist myself, I LOVE to create characters. So many characters I create no one ever sees. They are just playing around in my head, all day every day. I'm never alone. That said, character design and execution is super important. If you create characters that do not seem to be unique to themselves, I simply won't bond with them. Nick and Judy are something very special right away. I do not want to give too much away about them, but a LOT of films make the mistake where the character or characters do not seem to care about anything but the plot at hand. They doing want anything or like anything but what we are being shown. Zootopia gives me the impression that each character is a little deeper than just being a face in the crowd, and everyone is just a little more complicated than you see on the outside, even those who get very little screen time at all. If you come away from a film asking a bunch of questions about the characters that have little to do with the story line than then that means the characters made you care about that. It's rare these days and this was done beautifully.
The Universe: As I grow older I discover more and more how valuable this aspect is to storytelling, a fact I wish I had learned about when very young. Making great characters and coming up with a col story is fine, but so many films do this without really putting you in their world. You relate to the characters as if they were right beside you in this one, and not you right beside them in their world. Zootopia was different. The basis of their world was easy enough for a child to understand, but you are given little hints and glimpses of the deeper meanings and history there that they don't go into too much explanation of that makes it feel more like a world you could visit, and not just one where a story took place. I would be both surprised and immensely disappointed if Disney did not let us come back there, be it in sequel or some other fashion. It's too much space to leave to memory alone.
The Story: When we sit down to watch a Disney film we prepare ourselves for the cliche. It's kind of a staple of Disney. Their earliest successes were in the telling or interpreting of old fairy tales and literature. This story did not seem to follow that established formula. The flow was different, the character development, while it may have been easy to anticipate in spots, went a bit deeper than you expected in others, even if it was following your assumptions. I found the story to be well written, paced evenly, and lovingly executed. I was very satisfied with the style of storytelling in this film.
The Message: Disney does like to put messages in their films. Usually these messages are directed at children to help them understand the very things their parents want them to understand but in a fashion that is fun and enjoyable for the family. Sometimes this message is delivered repeatedly like a pie in the face montage and can be highly grating to experience. This obviously is for small kids with a short attention span. I do not begrudge them that, it's usually a good message like be honest with the ones you love or don't let your pursuit of popularity harm your family, that sort of thing. They are not bad messages, but usually they are not so deep that you can lay the foundation of a feature film on them. My Little Pony handles most of these sorts of messages just fine in 24 minute segments. The message that came bottled with Zootopia was something very different. On the surface it's something kids might get, sure, but the relevance was most definitely directed at adult viewers. And it was shown in such a way that makes it eerily familiar and far more relevant than anything I think Disney has EVER done before. It's an IMPORTANT lesson that it seems many are learning far too late. I came away from the film actually feeling that Zootopia, for everything it was, might just help some to understand a hurdle mankind has tripped over far too many times.
I could likely go on for pages and pages about the movie, little things I noticed, so many questions I had, but these would involve a greater likelihood of spoilers and certainly would be hard to slog through if you had not experienced the film yet. If you had not already gone to see it, GO. Also, take a friend. Or several friends. I have not been to a movie more than once in a theater since the 90s, but this one I intend to see again before it goes off the big screen, and I WILL own it on blueray when it comes out.
If you like, feel free to drop a question or two, maybe you were left with some similar to mine, or just want to discuss your own feelings on the film. Chat away below but understand that I will allow spoilers in the discussion below. Read on at your own risk.

Please Help
Posted 10 years agoA friend who has helped me when the chips were down many a time has recently suffered.. shall we say... a slight inconvenience. Here, this should help to underscore...

I am not in the best position to help as much as I would like at present, but any who pull for me, know that this person has stood up for me when I was a jam. If you would have helped me, help them. This threatens their very livelihood. There are many deserving causes out there, and I will rarely post something even remotely like this. In fact, this is my first post of this kind. If you can, even ten bucks, toss it this way. Even a tiny bit from enough of you may make all the difference. You can help here:

Alps Sarsis
TFF Survey Thing (Shamelessly stolen from Dingbat)
Posted 10 years agoWhere are you staying?
At the main hotel somewhere close to snacks or anyone fursuiting as a crux.
What day are you getting there?
I live within walking distance. I've always been there.
How are you traveling?
Considering a pogo stick. Otherwise, maybe walking?
Who will you be rooming with?
My wife, of course. And my toddler son. (he snores)
How is the best way to find you?
I usually have a Hawaiian shirt on, and have red hair. My kid's a red-head too and I will usually, during the day, be running around with him, telling him to stop chasing the suiters.
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Toddler makes it hard to plan to attend anything. I want to attend the photoshop one. :3
What do you look like?
Hawaiian shirt-wearing red-headed guy with glasses and mustache. I will usually be wandering about with a toddler, and appear tired and distracted. lol
Will you be suiting?
I don't have one of those, and would not have the time. :3
Do you do free art?
If I have time, certainly. I like sketching in people's sketch books. Usually in the evenings after the pup is asleep and I am out being a bad woofle. With beer.
Do you do trades?
Yes, but I am cautious about taking commissions or doing trades that take time since I tend to be very, very busy with life. If there is due patience, then yes, I don't mind doing occasional trades.
Do you do badges?
I have in the past, but if I do this year it's likely just gonna be for friends. :3 Again, it's time consuming!
What is your gender?
Historical evidence would suggest male.
How tall are you?
As tall as half of two of me, one on top of the other.
Can I talk to you?
Absolutely
Can I touch you?
As long as it is not intended to tickle. Also, do not touch my eyeballs. I don't like that.
Can I visit your room?
If Ithunna drags you in there then I guess you can.
Can I buy you drinks?
If I am not found with toddler, then possibly. I like dark, angry, filthy horrible beers that laughed at the Simba's Dad Died scene in Lion King.
Can I give you stuff?
If it does not explode or is not spring-loaded to hurl shredded cheddar cheese in my face.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
Probably. I am too distracted usually to notice loss of personal space. If you end up with freckles, you got too close.
Are you nice?
There is no other way to be. :3
Do you have an artist table?
Nope, but I will lean against Dingbat's table and pretend for a few seconds wistfully and then wander off somewhere to cry. :3
Will you be going to parties?
If I get invited I might go, but as a family man, I don't really party-hop.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Bacon on a string. Also, saying Alps usually does it. Even my family does not use my real name.
Where will you be most of the time during the day(s)?
Running around all over and probably chasing my pup and trying to keep him from getting eaten by dragons.
What/where will you be eating?
There's a ton of nice places to eat in Addison. It's great! I will consume comestibles at a variety of locations while I am there, most within reasonable walking distance.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
If you can tolerate the epic struggle of exhausted parents with their pup, maybe? Depends on where and when.
Can I look in your sketchbook?
I will probably have one of those, but I don't imagine I will have much time to add things to it.
Can I draw in your sketchbook?
If I bring a blank one and not one I am doing for someone else, perhaps?
Can I take your picture?
Yes, but we avoid letting folks take a picture of our kid, since he isn't old enough to say yes or no (and always says yes and doesn't care cause he's two) Also, avoid taking pictures of Ithunna. She does not like that very much.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
My personal goal is to spend some time in the evening hanging out with friends, being social, and drawing. Also, I want to learn from others, and ask a lot of questions from those willing to talk about art, Sai, Photoshop, and animation. I will also discuss writing with anyone who is curious about that.

Another Survey Thing goin' around
Posted 12 years ago1. Why did you join FurAffinity?
I was getting into art, and realized that I practiced it more if I had a forum to post it. I guess it was the typical "Self actualization need" at the top of my Mazlow pyramid. With nearly 700 submissions, I would say that FA has indeed encouraged me to practice. I started for that reason, but I stayed because I have gained friends here, and that's a very good thing. :3
2. What does your username have to do with you?
I am actually not sure how I came up with the name Sarsis. I am not always sure how I come up with a lot of my character names, I just ramble on until I find something that fits the character. Sarsis is the last name of my primary character, Alps. Alps, however, DOES have a reason for his name. I created a character to be a kind but insatiable flirt. As he would be a constant pest to the ladies, his name is just an anagram for Slap. Because of his little wings, which are a more recent development, I have also been told that it may stand for "Angelic Lupine Pussy Stuffer". I am not sure this last acronym is entirely deserved. o.o
3. What is your current avatar of?
It's of Alps as drawn by the Tied Tigress. As I am a family wolf, there are a few images kinda celebrating that, and they are among my favorite of Alps.
4. How many watchers do you have, and how many do you watch?
I have as of this posting, 1609 watchers. They are very patient watchers given that I cannot post much these days because of work and baby. It's getting better though, and I have something special in store for them soon. I am watching 232 people. Oddly, I try to keep the number of those I watch fairly low, otherwise I will never get through the list of postings each day. I will trim my list every few months of people that have become inactive or obviously left. Part of me being "tidy" I guess. Most of the people on my watch-list are influencing my art style. It is why I watch them. There is an element, a specific element of their art I am interested in.
5. Do you have more than one account?
Not on FA, no. I do have an account on other art sites, but they are just not very active. I don't have the time to keep up with them. Maybe one day I will. I have considered making a clean account here. But it's likely just as easy to put that clean account on Deviant Art or something like that too. My Deviant Art site actually only has work-safe art as it is, since that's where I send non-furries to look at my art anyway.
6. Name 3 of your favorite artists
wolfy-nail,
zaush, and
ollie Naming favorite artists in this fandom is really hard! How do you rate these people to call them a favorite? There is a deep love I have for a lot of them. Not listed are dozens of people whose art has touched me (and many others) in a very special way worth a lot of merit. Zaush and Ollie are on there because of my weird otter addiction. Wolfy Nail is on there because he has a great range of technical skill that he's worked very hard to gain, and practiced every day, just like I am doing now.
7. What artist do you admire because of their personality?
missmab is probably at the top of that list. A comic artist is a lot easier to rate in this fashion because you get to know their personality through their characters, but she just seems to be a genuinely great person. Not perfect, but at least humble about that and always striving to improve and love those around her. So I like her a lot.
8. Do you comment, fave, or both?
I comment more than I fav. I think a comment is more helpful to the artist. I will favorite things that I want to look at repeatedly for personal reasons, sure, but my primary reason for favoriting something is that it puts it in my favorites list to encourage others to go over to that page and look at it and see another artist's work. So hitting favorite on everything I look at and like only diminishes that effect, I feel. As for commenting, I will almost always comment positively, encouraging the artist when I see something I particularly like. If something is just FUN that was posted, I may post a silly comment to share in the fun.
9. What do you typically post on FA?
Typically things related to the work I do on Sexyfur.com, Sirius. I like to post characters from that series, and will eventually post a comic that occurs in that universe.
10.What's your favorite submission in your gallery?
Man, you would ask me that and make me look back through hundreds of submissions. Gimme a sec... http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8885474/ This one. I think this one shows the best balance of what I have been able to do as an artist. Though I am fond of this one: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6421050/ for the way it makes me feel when I see it. Odd, huh?
11. What are the things you wish you could draw better?
Hands and Feet are of particular frustration for me. Wolfy Nail said I should look at my own hands and feet and learn from them. I am trying. :D I also have a bit of difficulty with foreshortening, and I was told by another artist to try rotoscoping a few photos where foreshortening is required to get the hang of it, so I may do that.
12. How many hours a day do you spend on FA?
Maybe about an hour, unless I am doing something very specific, like this survey thing.
13. Are you a fast, slow, or medium typer?
As I write so much, I do type fast, but it's less from story writing, and more from role play. With how long I like to write my posts in role play, I have had to learn to type very quickly so I am not making my friends wait too long for my replies.
14. What is the most annoying thing people ask you?
"I have been reading one of your stories from Sexyfur that's been posted illegally for free at a pirate site over the past few years, but the free pirate site is slow to upload your new work for me to read. Can I get the X number of chapters that I am missing? You are my favorite writer ever, kay thanks."
I am aware that I cannot stop pirate sites from posting. Many are out of any kind of legal jurisdiction, but I will be damned if I am going to assist them in draining away the money I use to take care of my family. People can subscribe to Sexyfur once every six months if they don't have the scratch for a continuous subscription and catch up just as effectively that way. If there is some other underlying reason that they cannot use Sexyfur (they are 14 years old), then wait for the dumb pirate site until you get yourself some more time on this planet.
15. What is the most annoying/offending comment you've received?
I have been bitched out heavily for mentioning that I wanted to clean out my gallery, which caught me completely off guard. It's my gallery. It's going on a THOUSAND submissions. I'm OCD, this is killing me!!! Also, I had someone who I refused to give paid work for free to threaten to tell my wife that I wrote furry porn. You know... the wife who eats steak because I write furry porn, and knows it. "Hey Tiger! Your wolf writes dirty stories, and that's why you are eatin st-" *gets eaten too*
16. What/who inspires you?
I am sure that everyone writes that encouragement from friends and viewers is the top reason, because in a place like this it typically is. The same goes for me. As for external inspiration, I am pretty heavily inspired by manga and anime, as my primary reason for learning to draw in the first place was writing comics. I still have not written a comic. I just never have time. I hope to eventually.
17. Everyone has considered leaving FA once or twice. Have you? Why?
I have, but not because of anything with FA. Life has been very challenging these past three years, and I seem to only frustrate myself with wanting to continue to provide any focus to furry, here or anywhere else. Sometimes it seems like it would be a lot easier to focus on just working, bringing home money for the family, taking care of the child, and running errands. Then I would not forget things and have to understandably have the fact that I was doing non-essential things be blamed for my forgetting. I'm a very tired wolf these days, and I think it also shows in my art. It's certainly less frequent, but it's also typically rushed and disinterested, I think. I never have time to complete a piece of art and I know it. Even now I consider closing up shop, at least for a few years to focus on life, but I have some very nice friends I have made here that I don't want to drop away from. Kind of selfish, no?
18. What is your favorite kind of medium to use when doing art, and why?
I used to love just doing pencil sketches/pencil work. I have done prismacolor markers too, and I did that quite a bit, but it take a lot of time, which I just don't have anymore. I will continue to use them for con-badges and such for friends. Currently, digital medium is my favorite. I am getting better with my tablet, which has been very challenging to learn to use.
19. What developments artistically are the most interesting to you of late?
The greater use of less and less expensive art and animation software makes it so that good art is becoming more and more plentiful. Also, in terms of animation, it means that we are not being confined to the banal "safe" multi-million dollar rehashes of old stories and sequels that the movie industry would relegate us to. As time goes on, low budget pet projects will crank out some of the greatest animated stories of our time, and this is a great thing.
20. Others who posted this thing only had 17 questions. Why do you have 20?
I made up more questions because I have a touch of OCD. :(
I was getting into art, and realized that I practiced it more if I had a forum to post it.
So I like her a lot.8.

Posted 12 years agoI will be posting badges done over the years of Ithunna and I for and at conventions. I will include a little about each badge set, and links to the original artist. Just a heads up. ^^
Life
Posted 12 years agoAs much as I have tried and have fought and pushed through it, it seems like every time I take a step forward, life knocks me a few steps back. I need to take a big step back from things online so I can focus on things offline.
I want to say that it's only temporary, but the way things have been going, every time I give up a little more of myself, I don't tend to get it back. I hope that I will be able to draw and game and role-play again eventually, but I'm an adult.. I have to focus on those millions of things that life wants me to focus on. Anyone who has a family and multiple jobs should accept that this is the last thing they need to stress about.
Time to put aside these things and make things better for those who depend on me. I am sorry for those who have been the most patient with me, but I cannot keep up anymore. Work WILL calm down, and I will stop working 60 to 80 hours a week, but my fear is that if I don't focus on life, something else will immediately jump up and take its place.
I will be around again, I just don't know when.
I love you all, and you have given me much happiness. This is not goodbye, I just have to focus on one thing or the other. Thank you for your patience and understanding for so long.
Love,
Alps

Holidays
Posted 13 years agoHappy holidays everyone, and I hope that you have love and family near and far.
Don't discount the many memories you have made this year with your friends, or even the gifts you have provided complete strangers with the work that you have put in through your contributions to the fandom, be it art, music, writing, or even a supportive comment to the hard work of others.
Every positive act leaves a mark on the hearts and minds of those around you. Even if you have little as this long year comes to a close, you have each other, whether you want to admit that or not. Be there for one another. Even if kind words are all you can give, there are those who need little more than that to fill a void where even a kind word wasn't there.
Give for the holidays, and have a wonderful new year.

100 Truths
Posted 13 years agoI have seen this one floating around, and had nothing better to do. X.x

3. Last text message: Wife to tell her I got to work safely.
4. Last song you listened to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rhUHDif9n4
5. Last time you cried: Two weeks ago. It's been a stressful last few months, and sometimes it helps.
HAVE YOU EVER:
6. Got back with someone you've broken up with: Yes. Turned out I was right the first time. :P
7. Been cheated on: I don't consider people property. But no, my lover has never "hidden" another lover from me. If there was someone else, I knew them, and liked having someone else to play video games with.
8. Kissed someone & regretted it: Yeah. She had an annoying habit of clacking our teeth together. I could never get around that. :P
9. Lost someone special: Sadly, this is inevitable. We are woefully impermanent. My mother was the worst loss.
10. Been depressed: Yes
11. Been drunk and threw up: A couple times.
LIST THREE FAVORITE COLORS:
12. Green
13. Violet
14. Black
THIS YEAR HAVE YOU: (2012)
15. Made a new friend: Many new acquaintances, but few new friends. It takes a while before I elevate someone to a level where I would truly suffer on their behalf anymore.
16. Fallen out of love: I love easily, so this is also sadly inevitable.
17. Laughed until you cried: I laugh a lot. I find the world a hysterical place filled with blunt contradictions and very silly people. Even science can be humorous. Many times I have had to take my glasses off while laughing.
18. Met someone who changed you: A marriage doesn't work otherwise.

20. Found out someone was talking about you: I'm a manager. You can bet on it.

24. Do you have any pets?: One very handsome dog, Tamashii... a snide little tailless cat, Diva. Also, 13 million dust mites who groom my dead skin cells for me. I have not bothered to name them. I know they love me though. I am their favorite. They could have had anybody, and they chose me. That makes me special.
25. Do you want to change your name: I would change my real last name because I have no real attachment to it. I want to take my wife's last name, but apparent'y that's kind of hard to do.

34. Who is getting on your nerves now?: Upper management at work. Send me viable candidates to train, damn it!

Wolf Status
Posted 13 years agoLife is very busy, so I know a few of my friends are a little worried about me, as I haven't really written much, and I haven't talked much on Tapestries, so I wanted to offer an update.
I am happy. Life is hard, nothing runs quite as smoothly as we like, but all in all, I am not unhappy. I am a happy wolf.
Things will calm down and you will all see more of me, so for now, enjoy these words:
chocolate, scritches, crisp autumn mornings on the lake, freshly fallen snow, the sound of the ocean lovingly stroking the sand in its timeless affection for a world that waits for me to have some free time, and a shark in that ocean that I have not bitten yet, but better watch out. Now there's TWO wolves who are gonna get them!

Open Question
Posted 13 years agoOver time I have amassed a few convention badges for myself and my wife.
What is the general consensus on posting badges on FA in general, so long as I can give credit to the one who made the badge. In the past, I have always posted badges I made on my site, but I don't want to detract from the site traffic of the artist.
