Commissions Permanently Closing June 15th
Posted 12 years agoHi everyone! I'm not sure I've mentioned specifics before but this past year I have been working on applying for grad school and for the last couple months have been waiting around to hear if I got in. I applied to 4 schools, my preference was the one I went to for undergrad and where I currently live, with my second choice in Toronto. I was waitlisted at one school, accepted to Toronto, and totally rejected from my current school. So all in all, I'm happy because I got in to school, and at my second choice, but I'm also really intimidated with regard to finding a new apartment, moving, and getting used to a new city. The city I live currently is a decent size but quite tight knit, with everything close by. I'm planning to move as close to University of Toronto as possible, so I'll be right downtown in the thick of things. I grew up near Toronto but it's quite different being right downtown, and on my own. Moving is scary, starting school again is scary, and having to get used to a new place is scary. So I'm stressed, but also really excited! I think the only reason I was intending to stay in Kingston was that I'm comfortable here, and not necessarily that it's better. Plus, Toronto is much bigger, I have several friends there already, and there's more access to events, concerts, and things like that. It's definitely a step forward for me, and even though it wasn't my initial preference, I think I'm going to be thankful that things worked out the way they did in the end! I've been in Kingston 5 years, time for a change!
The program I'm going into is a 2 year professional program with no summer. It starts in September, but along with moving and wanting some time to do personal projects, I am closing my commissions as of June 15th. If you want to get in before they close, make sure you contact me within the next month. I will not be keeping any sort of waiting list after that date. It's possible in the future that I'll be taking a slot here or there, and after the 2 year program is up I may open commissions again, but I'm not planning that far ahead yet. I will, however, be continuing to do sculpture, and will likely still sell things on etsy from time to time. It's just custom orders that are closing; from experience I have learned that I cannot keep reliable deadlines for myself while in school.
Thanks for reading!

Posted 13 years agoHey everyone, I'm going to attempt to do a sculpting stream tomorrow afternoon/ evening. I haven't streamed in like 2 months so it might take me some time to go live, I'm aiming for around 2 or 3pm EST. I'm hoping to go for 4-6 hours. I will update this journal or post a submission (or both) when the stream is live :) The channel is here: http://www.livestream.com/quequinoxart
Non-Equine Sculpture Trade Slots- winners selected
Posted 13 years agoHey guys, I've gone through and selected the winners! I ended up taking 5, I really had a hard time deciding! Everyone had such pretty characters and great ideas. I'm hoping to get these 5 done by January, at which point I will hopefully take more. I tried to select a variety of creatures... I ended up with a tiger, a wolf, and three very different dragon designs.
So, here are the selected slots.
balletvamp@DA "Zhen" dragon/ cat
malusdraco@DA "Christos" bird/ dragon
mangakasan@DA/FA "Kinkou" fantasy wolf
StarKitty@FA "StarKitty" Tiger/Lion
CyanideDragon@FA "Savierya" Dragon
Thanks again to everyone for putting their characters and ideas in, I hope those not selected aren't too disappointed! It really was hard to choose and I'm intending to do these again soon.

Non-Equine Sculpture Trade Slots CLOSED
Posted 13 years agoHi everyone,
I have been wanting to branch out and work on some non-equine sculptures, however I run into problems with this goal because I end up starting things and never finishing them. On my desk currently are two dragons, a wolf, a cat, and a hybrid creature, all of which have been sitting untouched for over a month. I figured a good solution for my issue would be to take a few trades slots, that way I can do them in between commissions but will still have motivation to actually finish them. In addition, I have two new kirin characters and would like to have more art of them!
So here’s how things will work. Everyone who is interested can comment on this entry with what they would like me to make for them, and I will go through and choose the ones I like. At this point I will probably select 2 or 3 people for slots, since I don’t want to overwhelm myself. These will not be first come first served. The sculpture you would like can be an original character, a pet, a movie character, a hybrid of your favourite animals, or anything else you can think of. The only restriction is that it can’t be a horse or kirin!
I’m picking mostly based on your character design, however since it’s a trade some consideration will be given to your artistic style and medium. Commissions for my sculptures generally start at $200, but if what you’re offering for trade is under this don’t worry. Don’t be afraid to put an offer in, I’m going more by character design rather than what I’m getting in return. What you offer can be of any medium (it doesn't have to be sculpture, it can be digital, traditional, etc) , if you do sculpture or traditional I’d prefer if you would be willing to ship it to me. The only restriction on what you can offer to do for me is that you have to do one of my characters: Nox or Verse.
Nox http://fav.me/d4fs3zl
Verse http://fav.me/d4tqdgp
I’ll likely leave this open for a few days and then go through and pick a few that I like. At that point I’ll send you a note and we can get started. I have also requested your country because shipping will have to be a consideration. I don’t mind shipping internationally but I might alter the size or pose of the sculpture to make shipping easier to certain places. If you cannot give me your address to ship the sculpture to you, then please do not comment for a trade slot.
I will be completing these trades in between my commission work, so they are on a lower priority but will still be done in a reasonable amount of time. If you cannot finish your half of the trade within 3 months, please do not comment for a trade slot. I will not ship my half to you until you are finished your half. I am aiming to have these done before December of this year, but it could be longer. Sculpture size and pose will be up to me, although they will likely be around the 4 or 5 inch size.
If you have any questions feel free to ask!
If you are interested in a trade slot, please comment on this entry with the following information:

Artfest Show + Sculptures on Etsy
Posted 13 years agoThe Artfest Show last weekend was really interesting. It was cool seeing everyone's reactions to my art in person. I had lots of friends there to help set up and to hang out with my throughout the show which was really great. This was my first time doing any sort of face to face selling so it was a cool experience. I had been super paranoid that people were going to say my stuff was bad or overpriced, or that hyper children would like, attack my table, but neither of those things happened at all. Everyone seemed to really like them! A lot of people thought I had just stuck hair on toy horses and were really impressed that I had made them. Children really liked my stuff too, I had a lot of little girls scream "UNICORNS" and spent a lot of time in my table petting each one.
The show was advertised to me as a "juried art show" but was really just a crafts fair. Because it was a free show in the park most people were there for impulse buying and since my stuff is expensive and targeted to a very niche market I think I was just in the wrong place. I didn't sell any sculptures, but sold lots of post cards and gave away a bunch of business cards. I'm glad I got the experience and I guess the good news for my online followers is that all my sculptures will be for sale online now!
So, overall, a fun show but not something I plan on doing again any time soon. I may look into going to a bigger con in the states at some point but I'm not sure what I'd have to get legally to be able to do that.
Anyway, several of the sculptures have been spoken for already, and the rest have been listed for sale on Etsy. The shop is here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/scenceable I want to point out that I do take payments on my sculptures. My payment policy is that I require a $100 non-refundable down payment with the rest of the payments plus shipping due within 4 weeks. Just send me a convo on etsy, a note on here, or an email to commissions[at]quequinoxart.com if you're interested!
