FurThe'More 2025!
Posted 7 months agoI just confirmed my registration for this year's
Furthemore!
I've been wanting to go to that con for a while, but the fact that FA is holding the Celebration of Life for Dragoneer there, and the Con will be taking place in Herndon, VA (FA:United's former area) feels very appropriate.
I expect to just attend, I won't be dealing, but I might end up helping out by volunteering while I'm there. Please feel free to say hello! I've missed seeing folks so much, these past few years.
If anyone is attending that I owe art to, let me know, and I will do my best to finish stuff in time for pickup in person. Maybe this will help reconnect the art synapses in my brain...

Dragoneer
Posted a year agoWhen I saw the FA Discord announcement notification, I shot out of bed in disbelief.
I'm grateful I told him pretty often how much he was appreciated. I haven't been keeping up with journals as much as I should, so I didn't realize he was battling an awful illness recently.
It's crazy that he's gone.
I'm not sure what I believe in, but I'd like to think Glaide was on the other side to welcome him and keep him company.
Dragoneer was a legitimately good person, always kind and considerate in my experience. He worked so hard to make FA a place folks could enjoy, investing so much of his own time and resources and working with the rest of the FA team to keep everything running behind the scenes. Branching out into the convention, FA:United, was a wonderful way to help the online community manifest IRL for a weekend each year (up until the pandemic), and I know how much work he put into that, as well.
He has done so much for the community, even as the furry population has exploded over the past decade (or so) and social media contributed to the further decentralization of where furries hang out and find each other. FA still feels like home, to me, and that's largely due to Dragoneer.
I hope there is some way he can be commemorated in an ongoing/somewhat permanent basis, to help people remember.
Rest in peace, Preyfar/Dragoneer/Sean. You deserved so much better. To say you will be missed is an understatement.

Looking for photos of FAU and Baconhenge
Posted a year agoMaybe that seems weird but it's something I've been thinking about on and off because I miss the convention and I miss Glaide and being able to hang out with other friends that I didn't get to see often.
If you have con photos online from any of the past years (and previous locations), please let me know the link so I can check them out. It doesn't necessarily matter what the photos are of, because sometimes things in the background are just as interesting as the originally intended subject.
If you have photos saved that you don't mind sharing privately, my email address is ScullyRaptor[at]gmail.com (for sending directly or via Google drive or other file sharing services)
And yes, I am considering going to other somewhat local conventions now that it's sort of safer, again, even though here on Long Island we are currently going through another annoying wave of COVID. Furrydelphia and FurThe'More are possibilities. I have to look into it. I know it won't be the same, but the only thing certain is change. I feel like I've been having post-con drop since 2019.
As far as a general update, hardships persist, but so do I. I still haven't really drawn in over 2 years, probably longer, because I've lost count. I want to, but depression and anxiety is still holding my motivation hostage. I'm still in treatment. I'm making minor progress on that. I am grateful to have loved ones that care about me. I know things have been rough for a lot of people and I hope you are all doing well.

So it appears I recently hit 3000 watchers ♥
Posted 5 years agoConsidering that I haven't drawn in over two years due to depression/lack of spoons, it means a lot that folks are still discovering my existing art and choosing to follow. I appreciate each and every one of you.
It's frustrating having ideas that I've wanted to draw, and projects that I want to finish, and having so much difficulty in making that happen. I've been starting to feel more optimistic and motivated, so hopefully I will be able to reward your patience with new uploads (and contact about owed art & refunds) soon.

I need help. -- Updated! Thank you ♥♥
Posted 6 years agoI'm embarrassed about being in a position where I have to ask for help, but if I don't take care of this, my situation is only going to get worse.
If you are able and willing to, any contributions to my ko-fi would be immensely appreciated.

1/10/2019 Update: Thank you so much for your help and reassuring words ♥
I am grateful to have the support of friends and the furry community, and cannot express how much of a relief it is to have this particular financial situation (and the related anxiety spike) under control. Thanks to your generosity and good will, I am able to continue moving forward.

Updates
Posted 9 years agoI have badge holders now that fit ACEOs, so I'm curious to see how they work out. They probably will be very similar to my standard badges, just slightly smaller.
I'm offering the first one for special price of $20 (Free shipping to anywhere) since it will still be somewhat experimental, and so I can go get more caffeine and keep working on my queue :)
Also,
I'm generally a rather private person so it is difficult for me to talk about what is going on in my life, but I know people have been worried and concerned about me (and how it affects when they'll get their art).
Some of you know I've been through some stuff in the past, and I'm finally getting treatment for depression and anxiety that I've been needing for a very long time. Between battling mental blocks and adapting to antidepressants, it's been a rough couple of months on top of everything else but hopefully it is leading to a much better situation x_x All my body wants to do right now is sleep.
I'm happy to finally be making some progress on art again. Waiting to hear back from a couple of people regarding feedback on their commissions, and if all is well I'll be uploading soon and continuing with the next items.

thank you so much for the interest-- I will be open for more as soon as I catch up!
I intend to get a lot done on my queue this weekend, now that I'm just about done with an all-consuming project I've had to focus on for work since I got home from FA:U. Hopefully this weekend art progress will involve streaming, but my anxiety has been super-elevated lately and it's been smoother for me to work on things offline. I have a couple of images just about done, and expect to be posting them tonight. I sincerely appreciate everyone's patience, feedback, and support!

OPEN for Commissions!
Posted 9 years agoI will be streaming here and there and by appointment.
If you are interested in getting a sketch (or other things!), please fill out my form and it will be super appreciated-- I can really use the help right now, and I'm happy to draw you pretty things in return ♥
ScullyRaptor's Commission Request Form
♥ Once you've submitted your request, I will contact you to work out the details, and if accepted, arrange for scheduling and payment.
♥ Sketches can be upgraded to simple digital color at any time, even if they were commissioned in the past! Please email me to discuss :)
My form has been evolving as I use it more and refine what I need it to do. Some recent edits have made it simpler to understand, and also added more options! If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know :)
I'm in the process of digitally coloring three previous sketches, including
squidink and
agentgrimm, but it is easier/less stressful for me to do that offline, and I should have those done in the next couple days. Also working on older non-stream pieces (which I might stream work on in between new orders) but at the moment I am still cleaning up some overdue bills so any new commission requests are extremely helpful and appreciated <3 I am doing pretty well at turning these sketches around, and I need to do more if I am going to get faster at it!

I seriously am so happy with the images I've been drawing lately and I'm glad to hear when you all like them too ;__; It makes me feel better about working on art in general, which is also good for getting my queue below finished up. I've already made a lot of progress and looking forward to plowing through the rest. For those of you that have been patient with me, you know I'm going to make it worth the wait.

Doug Winger's passing
Posted 10 years agoI had been following dustmeat and bobguthrie's updates about Doug's health, and it saddens me to know that he passed away today (well, yesterday, at this point). As so many others have said, his art was arguably the first furry art I ever saw.
When I first got internet access at my parents' house, back in 1997, I was a member of SciFi Channel's Palace chat, The Mother Ship, which was populated by all sorts of different fans of scifi and fantasy. It was common to edit various graphics and digital photos into custom avatars, and people would sometimes even customize them, cross-pollination style, with other things they liked. Different Palaces also had different "prop rooms" where you could try on free avatars in related themes, and new friends would tell you where to look for interesting bases. On one of these explorations, in the dungeons of a Palace called Leonesse, I found an avater that I eventually learned was made from this image:
http://us-p.vclart.net/vcl/Artists/.....nger/erika.gif
and ended up using it as a base to create this:
http://scullyraptor.com/temp/borg_vixen.gif
(It had been animated in the chat, but I don't have the other frames extracted)
At the time, I had no idea furries were a thing. I just thought it was neat because I liked animal people, and didn't realize other people drew them too. It was a result of using this avatar occasionally that other visitors at The Mother Ship asked me if I did any MUCKing, and eventually sent me on my way with links to FurNation and the Transformation Story Archive, a vector that would end up having a profound effect on my life.
Reading other things that have been written about Mr. Winger today, I am truly disappointed that I did not get a chance to meet him in person. He sounds like he would have been a very interesting individual to talk to.
It is sad to lose such a pillar of the original furry fandom, but I am grateful that his suffering has ended. I wish him peace, and that the fandom remembers him and his contributions to our art and culture.

Furpocalypse 2014
Posted 11 years agoThere were a couple minor bumps since it was the first year for this particular con/staff, but it felt pretty similar overall to the Furfrights of yore (though missing some friendly faces).
I haven't gone to many cons in the last few years, mostly due to job and financial restrictions, but also anxiety and a general sense of discomfort and alienation due to things related to my personal life. Furfright/Furpoc is one of the more local cons to me, so it has historically been the one I am most likely to go to. My table-mate can vouch for me that I was very anxious about attending this year, as I was last year... but this time I felt a little better and started to remember what it felt like to enjoy being at a con, and find pleasure in drawing.
Unfortunately, I got bad news (family emergency) just as the dealer's room was closing on Sunday, and had to arrange to get back home immediately instead of the following morning; which threw a major wrench in the works when it came to finishing up the work I had carefully paced myself in taking. Thankfully, as I was on the way to the ferry, I was able to contact the people who were expecting their items by end-of-con and arrange to mail them afterwards.
I'm in the process of working on these and other owed work, and plan to upload more as items are completed and/or scanned. As always, I will be contacting commissioners individually and privately with details, questions, requested sketch approvals, and shipping/tracking info. It is important to note that I am ALWAYS reachable, and have a strong sense of honor when it comes to doing right by my obligations, but if I will get quiet very quickly if I feel overwhelmed. I sincerely appreciate the consideration, patience, and support that so many of you have shown me.

Post-Furfright and Desk move
Posted 12 years agoEverything was awesome and jumbled after the con, between having very good company, and then moving my entire workspace to the other side of my apartment. I'm still arranging and unpacking and processing things, but now that my desktop is back online and I'm settling into the new arrangement, I should be having updates again shortly.
Notes from Furfright
Yay
caliosidhecon <3 It was also awesome to hang out with
jenkiwi again! <3
kobura was going around giving out samples of his tasty handmade chocolates-- Clearly a snake you can trust ;) Seriously smooth chocolate. :d
Blix_fox is a really nice guy who makes beautiful fursuits! Seeing work like that up close makes me want a suit again...
This was the first con I'd really done in awhile, and every time I do a con, I think of more things I can do to improve the next time. Of course, I didn't remember how to do a legitimate sketchbook sketch until the last day of the con, so I felt really dumb, I'm feeling pretty good about stuff now though.
Currently working on con homework, so I'll be contacting people as I finish your items! As usual, if you would like to contact me, send me an email to solange[at]scullyraptor.com and if you are waiting to hear back from me, fear not, I'm catching up on correspondence. I'm always around, sometimes busier than others.
I might resume streaming later this coming week when I have reclaimed deskspace (most of my desk is taken up by my laser printer at the moment, so it is kinda cramped until I move it to its more permanent home).

Furfright!
Posted 12 years agoThis is probably the last update I'll do before I leave for the con (sometime thursday evening)!
If you are picking something up from me, find me at my table in the Dealer Dungeon! I should be in the row straight ahead as you walk in, middle of the aisle on the left. You can also DM me on Twitter ScullyRaptor !
Transportation type? Car & Ferry
Hotel you're staying at? The Cromwell.
Dates You'll be there? Thursday night or Friday morning probably until Monday morning.
Rooming with?

Gender: Ladyface
Description: Tallish, blonde, chained to a dealer table
Fursuit(s)? No
Who you will be with a majority of the time?

Main purpose for attending? Arts and feeding my friends cookies
Do you have a table in the Dealer's Den? Yes
Where you usually eat? Hotel room lol
Parties? Just homework parties
Daily activities? Drawing all the animals!
Nightly Activities? Drawing all the animals! and maybe sleep.
What time I usually go to bed and get up? Usually get up in time to get set up in the dealer dungeon, but sometimes I oversleep if I've been up too late. That said, I'm usually up pretty late working on homework from the day.
Can I touch you? Only if you smell like the most delicious strawberries
Can I talk to you? You are welcome to, but please remember that if I'm in the middle of something I might break eye contact to continue working on it while we talk-- I'm still listening, I just have deadlines, lol
Are you nice? I am, but I tend to be very reserved and sometimes cons make me very nervous. I've had anxiety attacks before. I also am wary around people that I don't know very well.
Can I buy you lots of drinks/get you all the foods? Maybe!
Can I give you lots of money? You are welcome to trade monies for arts!
Can I stalk you? I'm pretty boring, so it probably wouldn't be very entertaining.
Can I take your picture? No
Will you take commissions while at the con? Yes! Sketches/sketchbooks, badges, ACEO/ATCs. I am bringing all my materials.
