SO.
On my walk home from school today, I happened upon a mangy, scabby orange cat. It was fairly old and in obvious need of some attention, as well as food, water, and a good grooming.

I, being the sucker I am, go to pet him and he practically climbs into my lap, mewling and rubbing his head across my hands and knees. I melt. Despite my dislike for felines, this cat deserves a better existence, and I call my stepdad before taking him home.

Now, my stepdad: drunk, mean, hates cats. He gives me begrudging permission to help it find a new home over the phone, and still gives me tons of shit and calls me some unfavorable names when I get there.

Regardless, my mom helps me find some missing cat ads, and we locate a couple prospective owners. One in particular - Jordyn - practically cried when I tell her I might have found her cat, and says she'll come out as soon as she gets off work. The others peter out for one reason or another.

At this point, I start to worry. My stepdad says we absolutely can not have the cat by tonight, and he'll dispose of it one way or another. What if the cat isn't hers? What if she wants to rearrange the meeting for another day? OH GOD WHAT IF WHAT IF WHAT IF

...but she shows up and is disappointed to learn that the cat I found is not her Sammy. Nonetheless, she pets and holds him, and asks what my plan is. When I tell her I don't have one, she gets hopeful.
"Would you mind if I took him anyway? I work at the Humane Society and I can get him medical care... maybe he can prove just as good a kitty as Sammy."

I practically fall down at her feet. She's maybe 20 at the oldest and she's all prepared for this - transport crate in her car, all ready to go back to work to take care of this anonymous cat.

And she does.

So, Jordyn, thank you for being a wonderful, excruciatingly nice lady and taking a poor kitty when he needed you, and helping me rest at ease. [:
