First off, I have to say that this was a seriously good con. One of the best I've been to, in fact, and it certainly gave some of the bigger US events a run for their money.
The hotel is both fantastic and in a wonderful location, surrounded by scenic fields that made for some great photographic backdrops. The staff were great, the food choices were great... just all round 'great'. I've been to 11 cons and the Barcelo Island Hotel is possibly the best venue I've seen.

Highlights?

Brok and the GOHs arriving by helicopter for a start - I bet that's never been done at a con before. I kind of suspected there was going to be a chopper landing, having overheard bits and pieces from various people in the know, but it was great fun when it happened - particularly the gasps of astonishment from several people behind me.

The animals from The Nuneaton and Warwickshire Wildlife Sanctuary. For the first time I got to stroke a fox ( where's my speedboat? ) and a big barn owl. The owl was pretty huge and a bit intimidating with its massive claws and sharp beak, but I plucked up the courage to run my fingers through its feathers and I'm glad I did. The fox was incredibly tame with wonderfully soft fur and a strong sense of curiosity. It wasn't even scared of the fursuiters who came over to pet it.

Getting to meet a lot of fantastic people for the first time such
as  Ant,  darkstud88,  baccala30,  evilsquirrel,  runt ( who was an awesome roomie ), Aurora ( not sure of his FA ) and many more, plus meeting a lot of people from previous cons such as the very nice  JBadger, who brought along his lovely Sherbert fursuit.

Seeing some very nice fursuits I'd only ever seen in photos before such as  snugglebunnyfursuit and  shivon, plus re-meeting some really great suits belonging to  emejn,  emberkomodog,  Colifox and Vin Weasel ( not sure if he has a FA ) amongst others.

Waving at the traffic while in fursuit and getting several honks from passing trucks. During the early part of the con several of us got up on the grass verge overlooking the road and were getting precariously close to the passing vehicles, but con staff later told us to keep a safe distance away from the traffic. In hindsight, this was probably all for the best as someone might have ended up flattened by a truck otherwise.

I think I suited for about 20 hours in total and when I wasn't suiting I was chasing after other suits taking photos. My photo gallery will be available shortly, with some videos following on later in the week. A great selection of suits at the con. In fact, given the large amount of suits vs. attendees it seems as if British furs are more into fursuiting than their US counterparts. I wonder if there's any statistics on the subject...

My only issue with the weekend was the heat, but that certainly wasn't the fault of the con staff! It was supinely hot for England, and I was getting very, very sweaty inside Peaches. Still great fun though - fursuiting always is.

One more thing - after the con I met up with an old friend of mine  Omega256, whom I hadn't seen for several years. We had a nice Thai dinner together in Birmingham and had a long chat about the old days. It was a great way to end my CF trip.

If I can make it then I'll be back next year!

I'll be heading off for Confuzzled tomorrow, which marks my first time at this con. Despite not being American, every con I've attended since 2003 has been in the US, so going to England for some furry fun will be a new experience entirely. Confuzzled is pretty much my 'local' con ( Hinckley is about 220 miles away from Dublin ), so it's about time I showed up there.
Leaving tomorrow night by overnight bus/ferry and should be arriving at the con hotel sometime around midday on Thursday. Ironically, deciding to travel overland means my trip to the con location ( which would be roughly a 40 minute flight ) will now take pretty much as long as it would take me to get to Chicago for MFF.
The closest con to me... but I'm going the long way :)

Back home next Tuesday.

Despite saying I wouldn't be making any transatlantic trips this year, I've found myself in a position where I might ( emphasis on 'might' ) be able to make such a journey in early August. Any fun furry events going on at this time of year? Preferably on the east coast. I know FA:United is on in NJ towards the end of the month, but I can't attend as there's a time crunch with Eurofurence ( I start my EF trip on 21st Aug ). Then there's Indy Furcon, but that would involve a layover and I'm kind of keen to avoid that.
My dates would be roughly 7th to 17th Aug.
Anything going on then?

During Anthrocon last year I encountered a mysterious hovering 'thing' while out fursuiting. It was some kind of remote control helicopter - flat and with four rotors as I recall. Well, me being in fursuit, I couldn't help but chase it.
I knew someone was taking pics at the time, but I only found them tonight.

Yep... every goat has had the experience of being called a bunny at cons. So today, Easter Sunday, will be the one day of the year when every goat gets to be an honorory bunny. **grabs my Easter basket and goes hopping away with a load of eggs**
