Halloween Kaeroki (QUESTION!!)
Posted 11 years agoQuestion! I'm going to debut the new base tonight with a very small halloween batch but I'm wondering - do you guys like choosing your own hair or would you prefer I already have these kaeroki 100% complete so you can just go ahead and purchase them as is and skip the wait?

Posted 11 years agoTHOSE WAITING FOR YOUR KAEROKI
Posted 11 years agoFirst off, if you don't follow my main account diehasen, please do - or check there for updates. Since I have about 4-5 accounts on FA I don't have the time to constantly keep all of them updated all the time. If I don't respond within a few days just send me a message over on my main and I'll get right on it.
I underestimated what the workload would be like once I started school again, and because of that I've had very little time for art outside of homework - that includes commissions, adoptables and personal work. I'm trying to get into a better routine so I can at least dedicate one day out of the week to work on commissions and adopts for you guys!
I really want to apologize for this and the fact I haven't been able to get these out in a timely manner like I had been. Adjusting to an entirely new school and apartment life has been a lot of stress and I never once forget about all I need to be doing over here! (Believe me, commissions loom over me every day)
I will state that school is a priority above all else, I am going to college so I can eventually get a job where I no longer need to do commissions to support myself. You guys have done so much in your support and I truly appreciate it, all I ask is that you please, please be patient with me. I always feel terrible every day I have to push my output for you guys further and further back, I really want to invest more time developing new and exciting creatures and characters for you guys to use but unfortunately with how things are it's becoming very hard to do so as my program has become extremely intensive.
As I work out a routine I'll hopefully be able to get stuff out at a steady pace, and always feel free to contact me about anything at all!
Thank you all so much
EDIT: ALSO THOSE WAITING ON KAEROKI - DONT FORGET TO CHECK MY SCRAPS, SOMETIMES I FORGET TO CONTACT PEOPLE WHEN THEIRS IS FINISHED.

Update regarding kaeroki, bases, etc.
Posted 11 years agoI'm finding myself getting bored with this base (no surprise there after making like 50 of them LOL), so I'll probably be putting future kaeroki batches on a break while I figure out what I want to do.
I'm thinking I might still have that base open for customs and have the pricing be like:
Anthro (no tadpole) + No lineart edit (besides adding hair) - $20
Anthro (no tadpole) + Lineart edits (i.e. unique tail fin, whatever) - $25
Anthro + Tadpole + No lineart edit - $30
Anthro + Tadpole + Lineart edits - $35
But I still need to work on rules, what I still get artistic freedoms with, etc.
It'll probably be something like, you'll give me a few color schemes to pick from, a hair style, and either give me the freedom to do whatever I'd like with that scheme or some suggestions (or inspiration) and I'll just design from there.
In the mean time I'd like to make a fullbody (not chibi) set of maybe like three bases? And those will probably be for the more detailed/slightly pricier adopts, and then maybe another base for the chibi/cheaper ones. For the cheebs I'm thinking of maybe having the tadpole with the anthro when I release a batch and the kaeroki will just be be bald (so all you'll have to do is tell me what hair to slap on it! Meaning you'll get yours a lot faster!) Prices will probably still range depending on the complexity of the batch, the batches will also probably be a little smaller.
Let me know what you guys think!

I've been all over the place, adjusting to my first apartment, a new college (haven't started yet but I've been attending orientation things), and a new state (well I used to live in Cali, but this is still new).
I haven't had internet until today so that really lagged me behind.
I just wanted to let you all know I haven't forgotten you and I'll be back on a roll within the next few days and finally streaming again!! THANK YOU ALL AGAIN AND AGAIN. ;;

There will be 15 in this batch and they will be $23, the theme for this batch is flowers!

Update
Posted 11 years agoReposting from my main:
"I was planning to work on commissions tonight but my dad packed up my desktop and cintiq |D;;
I am leaving in like...8 hours (I should go to bed) on a 20 something hr drive to Cali (longer if we take a break, which we probably will because I'm a weenie).
We don't have internet at the apartment yet so I'm probably going to figure that out sometime this week. ; - ; (Though I'll still be working on stuff on the down low until then).
Otherwise I've got my laptop and I'll probably mooch internet off somewhere.
Just note my activity will be sporadic this week."
Also the new batch of kaeroki will be postponed to next weekend. B)

RAFFLE WINNER HAS BEEN CHOSEN - chibwe!
Posted 11 years agoImportant Update Regarding Kaeroki
Posted 11 years agoOkay so this is a repost from my main account:
"So I'll be leaving for college next weekend and moving into my first apartment ever!!
I'll be driving from Austin allll the way to Laguna Beach next Saturday and Sunday.
Because of this I'm going to attempt to crunch out as much as I can this week, but if I can't get to everything just know that I will as soon as I settle down!
I'm super anxious about all of this but hopefully everything goes well.
It's going to be an adventure trying to move all my tarantulas into smaller tubs for the trip lmao.
Time for college round 2"
BUT ANYWAY WHAT THIS MEANS, is that the next batch of kaeroki that are going to be for sale may be postponed to the next weekend after so I have time to settle in, and then the raffle for those who already have kaeroki the final weekend this month. Luckily we have five weekends this month |D So it works out pretty well.
Note that while I'm going to try really hard to commit to this plan, things may change because I am starting college again and that is my top priority. (:

Kaeroki F.A.Q.
Posted 11 years agoHey all I've been meaning to add a little F.A.Q. section! So here it is. Basically I'll add misc questions that I've either been asked below, or in the past and hopefully this can clear up anything you're wondering about these guys!
Make sure you do read the visual guide first tho: here (sfw) and here (nsfw)
1. How does gender and sex differ in Kaeroki?
This is something I'd really like to clarify! Although I believe this is beginning to become common knowledge, biological sex and gender are two separate entities.
Kaeroki biologically have only two sexes, much like humans; male and female.
Though as you can see from the nsfw guide, they both still appear the same from the outside!
Their naughty bits are hidden (well the females is internal anyway, but the male's is retractable.
In rare cases, a kaeroki may even be able to change it's sex!
However regardless of their bits, note that kaeroki have multiple gender identities, as humans do.
While their sex may leave them having a more masculine or feminine physique, their isn't an extreme amount of sexual dimorphism, making it much easier in their society to pass off as whatever gender they wish to identify as. (:
So note that while they may have one naughty bit or the other, feel free to make yours identify as whatever gender regardless of that!
2. Do they have webbing between their fingers and toes?
Yes! I just don't draw it all the time... |D Don't fret if you haven't drawn them with them, It's up to you if you wish to include them in your drawings!
3. DO THEY HAVE NIPPLES???
NO!!!! THEY DON'T HAVE BOOBS EITHER
4. Can they breathe underwater?
Only in their tadpole form, they lose their gills as they mature, however they can stay submerged for a very long period of time!
5. Can they be poisonous?
Yes! This was slightly answered in my guide, but to be more specific, it depends on what diet they choose to take up!
If you are familiar with how a poison dart frog gains it's poisonous qualities it's very similar.
So you are free to make your kaeroki poisonous - just know that they won't...or rather shouldn't be touching others or letting them lick them.
6. Can they be cannibalistic?
Yes! Also noted in my guide, an interesting trait that can occur in real world amphibians is that some become cannibalistic in their larval stage and carry that trait onto their adult stages.
It's usually opportunistic cannibalism, but in kaeroki this trait is visible by their sharp teeth. Regular kaeroki do have teeth, but they're similar to a humans - omnivorous in appearance.
7. What do they usually like to eat?
Depending on their location kaeroki may have a variety of diets! The most common being insects, berries, fish and plants.
The rarest being the cannibalistic types who like the juicy meat of their kin. B)
Asked by boa-noah :
8. Do Kaeroki have a regenerative quality similar to some amphibians in that they can regrow fingers and in some cases entire limbs when damaged or are they more like us in that once something is lost it will stay lost?
They can regenerate to an extent! It just won't regrow back perfectly, meaning that the skin of the regrown appendage is dulled, and it'll appear a bit stunted.
This usually applies to smaller parts like toes/fingers/fins. If you were to cut off like an arm or a leg it'd probably only grow back somewhat of a nub but not much more than that.
9. Do Kaeroki need to stay moist like most amphibians or can they function relatively unharmed when they're dried off?
They're able to stay moist for quite a long time, but unless they've adapted to a hotter/dryer climate, most will have to soak during the night time.
Usually their beds function as baths too. Extended periods of time without water they will grow weak and this can greatly effect their health.
10. Does the species in general have a sort of 'setting/world' or are they pretty much just a species?
Like some species will have a main fictional world they primarily come from for culture/lore while others have no set home.
My headcanon for their world is probably similar to that of an alien-version of Earth, i.e. they still have shops, high school, etc. - it just isn't a world populated by humans.
This is something I'm hoping to develop in the future but I haven't had a chance to sit around and think deeper into what their planet is like.
11. Are Kaeroki's weak to anything in particular? Like in the real world pollution and chemicals are very dangerous for amphibians because of their skin,
are Kaeroki similarly weak to pollutants or no more so than an average human would be?
Absolutely! They're very sensitive to chemicals and often have to take more precautions when dealing with such things.
But due to the advancements of their species, they have developed medications and vitamins that can protect them or at least strengthen their immunity towards chemicals.
Those in less developed societies tend to be more at risk.
12. You mention that they lose their gills over time, does this mean the structures on their 'ear' things are just remnants and/or would older Kaeroki completely lose them?
Further how old do Kaeroki get? Are they long lived like humans or do they reach their deathbed much later/sooner?
They are indeed remnants! They're now more vestigial, but do help in courtship.
The frills on the ears often display how healthy the kaeroki is. A ill or weak kaeroki's ear frills may appear dull, shredded or none existent.
Kaeroki live long lives thanks to their advancements, only slightly surpassing humans average life span.
13. Do they have long tongues like frogs? Or would that be limited to certain 'types' of Kaeroki?
Are there any traits that are rare among the species? IE in real life there are some frogs that can be frozen solid and thawed without dying is that a trait Kaeroki can have in rare cases?
Or maybe longer feet/webbing or poison glands not dictated by diet?
Some what! They do have long tongues, but not in the sense where it can shoot a bug out of the air.
It's similar to that of many ground frogs, like the african bullfrog. There are many traits that are uncommon or rare within the species. A lot of it depends on the location of the kaeroki.
Some rare traits may include frill grows on their back, multiple tails/appendages, extreme transparency of the skin (i.e. being able to view their internal organs from the outside, despite the squishy consistency of their skin, this is not normally visible).
Poison glands can be developed in rare cases as well. Again many of these developments are based on their environment, a kaeroki who's family has been raised in a well developed village/town will probably not show such traits but it is still possible.
14. Can Kaeroki develop extremely masculine/feminine features under certain conditions?
Like, could there be a massive hulking Kaeroki or an ultra-voluptuous Kaeroki? Not in hyper terms but in realistic/possible extremes.
Yes! Certain diets may actually lead to such developments.
While kaeroki are generally pretty lean, variable body types can develop under the right circumstances.
15. Do Kaeroki care for their young like mammals/some amphibians or are they like most frogs in that they care/tend to the eggs/tadpoles and then abandon their children once they reach maturity?
How many children/eggs does a female usually release upon climax anyways?
Kaeroki will generally care for their young like humans do, because the male's sperm actually has a very low potency!
Thus despite the fact that a female may release 3-4 eggs per orgasm, they rarely get fertilized.
Unfortunately if a kaeroki pair have more children then they believe they can raise, they often cull them or abandon them.
Cannibalistic tadpoles are even more likely to be culled - regardless of the parents ability to raise them.
16. Do they have sturdy hard bones or softer more flexible/weak bones?
They have sturdy bones!
17. Kaeroki have a wide variance in their markings/species they're based on (where they are) do they carry some traits from what they're based on.
Like in the newest batch there is one based on a clownfish, in clownfish when there is no female the male will become a female to replace her, would that Kaeroki theoretically be one of the few that can change their physical sex?
Or is it more or less determined by random chance? Going further off this question, in the case of Kaeroki not based on an IRL specimen how are their unique traits determined or is it left up to the buyer/creator?
No they do not reflect traits from whatever they've been based on, their markings are usually passed down from ancestors where these markings may have helped with camouflage
- or it may still help serve a purpose for those who choose to live away from developed areas and still need those physical traits to help them hide from potential predators or when they're hunting.
While the markings will stay the same throughout their life, the hues may change with age!
Unique physiological traits like that I like to leave up to the new owners. (:
---
I'll add more questions as they're asked/I think about them! Feel free to shoot questions about the species whenever!

I'll add more questions as they're asked/I think about them! Feel free to shoot questions about the species whenever!

Quueshton!!!!!!
Posted 11 years agolmao I just ask questions every day, sorry. I just want to check in with my customers so I don't do anything that makes you guys upset |D
I know some people were wanting me to maybe try to lower the amount of kaeroki I release,
since I'm going crazy with making these (I REALLY LOVE MAKING THEM I'M SORRY).
Would you guys rather me keep doing what I'm planning to do which is basically this schedule:
Plan A
*Whatever month it is*
1st weekend: Release set of 15 kaeroki - unique theme
2nd weekend: Release 1 kaeroki for raffle for those who do not have one
3rd weekend: Rekease set of 15 kaeroki - unique theme
4th weekend: Release 1 kaeroki for raffle for those who do have one
OR
Plan B
Still do the same as above except swap the 3rd weekend out with a new species aka I'll try to develop up some new concepts and see if any of them interest you guys.
OR
Plan C
I can alternate months so like this month will be kaeroki, September will be another species,
October will be back to kaeroki (mainly because I want to do a spooky theme hahah),
November to either that previous species, or a new species, and so forth
I'm planning to work on some new species either way, but these guys are hitting it off very well and like any product I want to make sure I'm giving you guys what you want LOL. |D
Customs will be available regardless of what month it is, if I do plan C.
Also I'm trying to get ohrii to make more of her space cats because I think you guys would like those and they're super cute :3c

Heads Up!
Posted 11 years agoTomorrow is my mum's bday, and for her bday she wants us to clean the entire house |D So I'll be doing that all day.
I'll probably be start working on the anthros for those who purchased them tonight, late-late tomorrow night, or Tuesday morning. They should all be finished by the end of this coming week. (: That includes the ones made for trades, the customs and the ones purchased from the 1st august batch!
If you're interested in watching me stream and work on them, I'll usually post journals on my personal account and what I'm working on over here -> diehasen

cries, sorry I keep asking for opinions - about kaeroki
Posted 11 years agoI think I might up the price to $25, I'm putting a lot more research into these designs then I have been, I'll be keeping the batches to 15, twice a month.
Each batch will have 2-3 "uniques" which were the mutations I was talking about before. They will still be the same price as the others.
I'm really sorry about raising the price a bit, but considering how much thought I'm putting into this upcoming batch I think it's for the best. ; o ;
Are you guys for/against this?

Kaeroki Release Plan
Posted 11 years agoGoing by the information received in my survey, this is what I've decided. Things may change, and I may slow down once I feel I've released enough (i.e. I'll make another species) but for now I just want to get them out for those who really want one.
• Kaeroki will be released the first and third weekend of every month, in batches of 15
• Each month will have a special theme for the batch (i.e. October will be spooky B) )
• Each batch will include a few special kaeroki - either with mutations, or unusual features
- this will not increase the price they’re being sold at however since these are unusual traits it’ll help add to some exclusivity to those who want something unique from the rest.
• They will still be sold for $20-$25 depending on complexity of the theme, or $35 for customs
• For an additional $5 I will do minor accessories or edits (i.e. change tail length, add a hat, eyepatch, whatever)
• The weeks I do not release a batch I will have two raffles
- one for those who do not have a kaeroki (2nd weekend of the month), and one for those who already own a kaeroki (4th weekend of the month)
• I will still accepted art trades in exchange for customs (but I have the right to accept or decline a trade offer).
• I will occasionally host auctions for super special kaeroki, they will be off base and non-chibi.
• I will not be doing regular commissions, at least not for a while,
however I will always be open for PWYW commissions.
