How Garth & Sei met in the Skyrim-Verse
Posted 13 years agoHow Garth & Sei met in the Skyrim-verse:
Sei lived in Riften and was a part of the Thieves Guild - or, whatever you would choose to call it, given it's currently seemingly irreparable state...
But, regardless - she called there her home.
There was little for her elsewhere... And her skills were rather adept when it came to not being seen, along with the fact that... Well, not many a Nord, Breton, Elf or... Well, any of the other races, really... Would expect to be pick-pocketed by a relatively small wolf-looking thing.
She had been chased around a few times by Hunters who had mistaken her for a wolf, but... Other than that, it wasn't really too much of a problem.
She had extremely high stamina, in any case - so she wasn't exactly about to just let herself get caught.
Long story short, she obviously did jobs for the Thieves Guild to earn money, both for herself... And for the guild.
One of her upcoming jobs involved her going to Whiterun, more specifically it involved the Whiterun stables.
This is where Garth comes in.
He lived in Whiterun, finding work as a member of the Companions, though he made a pretty specific note to himself that he aimed to disassociate himself from ONLY working for them.
In honesty, he much preferred his little findings into magical objects - often taking his time to try his hand at enchanting rather random bits of jewellery.
More often than not... These bits of jewellery simply did not belong to him.
He was no saint, and frankly, not too good at remaining hidden... So he wouldn't go sneaking around - that wouldn't work... He would just pluck things that people simply left lying around.
Actually getting access to an Enchanting table involved... Well, he didn't have one. Put it that way. The table he used belonged in Dragon's Reach - though he found it rather irritating that, in order to use it, he had to stand on a stool.
At first he had admittedly resorted to the idea of breaking in or using some form of trickery... Such as claiming to wish to see the Jarl... But in the end, he had seen no way of sneaking in... Nor tricking anyone... So he simply resorted to asking the Jarl if he could be permitted to do so.
He was denied.
He kept asking after each month, and either out of sheer irritance or from the fact that he could see that Garth was completely serious about his studies, he allowed Garth to throw the question to Farengar Secret-Fire who... really didn't really seem to care.
He's not particularly welcomed there, but since Garth offered to help Farengar with finding little ingredients and running delivery errands, there's no real reason for the Jarl to kick him out - even though he could if he felt like it.
Working for the Companions did yield as a bonus, however, since one of the odd-jobs that he did was to look after some horses at the stables. It was only a once/twice a week thing - but the money was relatively good.
During one of Garth's routine jobs at the Stables, Sei had been given a job from the Thieves guild to Forge some number on the Stables ledger.
There wasn't supposed to be anyone there - not according to official paper work, but the hiring from the Companion's had no such thing.
When Sei had entered the Stables, she was greeted not-so warm-heartedly by Garth, who chose to point out that the door she had just entered was locked. If she didn't have a key, she'd have to leave immediately. She had reached into her pocket for a moment and was fiddling about, there was a clear jingling tune coming from her pocket...
But she had a plan. She had flung a bunch of keys at Garth and ran outta the door whilst he covered himself from the onslaught of potential to unlock doors.
Needless to say, he was soon in pursuit.
Having drawn his weapon, he had ran out of the door and into the light to find her stood still and staring at something. He walked up to her, sheathing his weapon and following her gaze.
It was a dragon.
He cursed his luck openly and was about to run the short distance back to Whiterun, before he had stopped. Sei was still stood there, gawking at the beast flying at the nearby tower. He yelled at her, she didn't respond. Growing agitated, he ran in front of her and questioned what she was doing - only to have a curious response thrown back at him.
She wanted to kill it and chew on its bones!
...Great, not only a thief but a comedian too. She laughed at him, he was too serious - she claimed - before happily prancing towards the tower.
She was serious... She was gonna get herself killed.
The guard was already forming a group to fight the dragon back... The companions were most definitely going to be joining the fight... He'd be back here in a minute anyway, why bother going back?
Oddly enough, Sei had a feeling about this weird person. He was gonna follow - so she waited. Moments later, he turned up beside her - he had two swords at either side of him and an interesting looking bow... Along with some nice looking arrows in the quiver he was brandishing.
He laughed gently and shook his head, questioning her and whether or not she was actually going to challenge him in taking the beast on - after all, he was gonna win... So there was no challenge.
She snorted in reply, accepting the friendly bet of 'I can kill it before you', despite the fact that really - Garth was just hoping to hold out until the guards came to help.
No such luck, she set off immediately - and fast... Laughing that it would be dead before he even got there. He chuckled, climbed up on to the largest set of rocks he could find, and wielded his bow - from there, he would attempt to provide ranged assistance.
Throughout the battle with the dragon, Sei proved that her dexterity and general stamina were extremely useful in combat. She constantly ducked and weaved and dodged attacks - sometimes moving too fast for Garth to see quite where she was.
He had to hold off on firing a few times for fear of potentially hitting her.
She had noticed his game-plan and sought to avoid any potential mishaps... She mostly stayed around the 'back' of the dragon, compared to Garth, and kept its attention that way.
After a gruelling couple of minutes, and still no sign of the guard for assistance, Garth began to worry about whether or not Sei could keep that up... As well as the fact that he was out of arrows. She seemed alright, but was feeling a bit sluggish herself.
Great stamina is one thing, but even extended combat will eventually tire you out.
Running to join the fight, Garth grabbed one of his arrows that had fallen short of the mark as he ran forward, not too far from the dragon. Sei had skidded under the dragon and held the dagger, point-forward, looking up at the dragons belly.
Garth jumped, landing the arrow-tip square in-between the dragons head, whilst at the same time, Sei thrust the dagger up into the dragons belly, pulling it up towards the dragons chest, as best she could manage.
The dragon buckled, falling over - sheer blood loss simply didn't overcome the will to fight.
After evacuating from the close proximity of the dragon, both Garth and Sei burst into hysterics. Sei was the first to claim the kill, Garth immediately came back - pointing to the dragons skull... Leading to Sei pointing at the dragons bel-- What was wrong with the dragon?
Both stared as the dragon seemed to... spontaneously combust. It looked extremely weird... Something that could breathe fire actually could burn? But it looked as though what was burning wasn't... charring... as things normally would, it was completely disappearing.
Suddenly an overwhelming wind sprung upon the two unsuspecting dragon-killers. It was loud, it howled, and it made them feel different, as if they had new power.
Neither of them had to say this, but as it ended - the look that each of them gave one another was a silent confirmation of what had just happened.
Sei then ran forward, grabbing one of the dragon bones in her mouth and breaking it off... Dropping it to the ground she loudly, and happily, proclaimed that it was hers!
Garth wasn't entirely sure what to say, but one of the not-so-useful guards suddenly came over and filled his part in the conversation, asking something dumb about dragon souls and if they had absorbed them.
He simply shrugged. What the heck did he know about their souls, or absorbing them, for that matter?
Irileth ran over, accompanied in the background by a number of gawking Whiterun guards. It really was unnerving that these people seemed to be staring at them, even moreso than usual - though both were unaware that each had no other of the same specie, and as such, without knowing it, were both effectively receiving the same treatment, just at different places.
They had been requested by the Jarl. Both of them.
Probably for having killed the dragon, Garth had verbally assumed to Sei whilst she was carrying a dragon bone over her back - she laughed. Of course, they were heroes and she wanted a house and an apple pie and... and a... anything! The reply she received was a chuckle. Probably.
It had nothing to do with that weird windy thing... Or the stupid thing that they were talking about with dragons souls... or whatever... That was complete nonsense. This, they had agreed.
Though the Jarl informed them otherwise.
They were wrong.
They were Dragonborn.
