Russian special suppression forces send to Cherson
General | Posted 3 years agoDimitri Popov is a resident of Hamburg, Germany, who traveled to the city of Cherson in Ukraine to visit his parents. the city has since been occupied by russian forces though an internet interview through skype was possible. according to Dimitri Popov, trying to leave Cherson is life threatening due to the combat zones outside the city as well as countless military checkpoints effectively locking residents inside. the city is mostly deserted except for the city centre where Cherson residents gather semi-regulary to protest against the russian invaders. these demonstrations have been peaceful and without violence until now, however Mr. Popov is afraid that this will soon change because there was a change in command. until recently, Cherson was occupied by regular russian military however the currenty army commanders are going to be replaced by an undescriptive special forces unit which specializes in population suppression and insurgency suppression. Mr. Popov fears that the anti russian protests in Cherson will soon stop to be peaceful and that violence will become a rule of law. furthermore, Mr. Popov stated during the interview that scenes of ukrainians waving russian flags and accepting bread from russian soldiers, scenes that are shown in russian news, are all scripted and staged, made specifically for the russian propaganda to hide the truth of the ukrainian people being oppressed.

Oil Embargo against Russia and exclusion from Interpol

furthermore, the United Kingdom together with the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand requested that russia will be excluded from the international police organization Interpol and stripped of all access to all system. various countries who still have citizens within russia advised their citizens to be mindful about the things they say in public or online via social media as there is a risk that foreign citizens will also be arrested for speaking out against the war while they are within russian borders.
it should go without saying that I would advise anyone currently outside russia who spoke out against the war online via social media or other platforms to avoid entering russia for the foreseeable future

Children arrested in Russia
General | Posted 3 years agoAccording to The Guardian, a group of children aged 7 to 11 and two adults (possibly their parents) were arrested for trying to put down flowers and peace signs in front of the ukrainian embassy in Moscow. the children were held for several hours. the adults are facing unspecified charges.

Telltale is forced to Flee his County

he's a Youtuber I occasionally watch and focuses primarily on topics like the dangers of cults and religious indoctrination. His content is well researched due to him being raised as Jehova's Witness for most of his life before he was able to successfully escape the Jehova's Witnesses and finally gain his well deserved freedom. He is very level headed and an all-around cool guy with very interesting content.
Well, Telltale is now forced to flee both his Town and his County, perhaps even the State... he lives in the deep South of the US so, there's some of that famous southern hospitality for you...
so what happened?
well, no, Telltale isn't black and he isn't gay either so if you thought those were the reasons he had to flee for his life, i'm sorry to disappoint you
what happened was that Telltale's daughter recorded her teacher in class at her public school interrupting the class to try and indoctrinate her students about christianity, with the teacher saying such charming, wonderful things that she doesn't believe in same sex marriage, that gay people burn in hell, yadda yadda yadda, all the lovely and charming stuff that fundamentalist evangelical christians like to sprout. I'm sure all of you are, like me, familiar about that.
that being said, while extremely douchy, if those are the teachers personal beliefs and opinions, then so be it. the issue of the matter was however, that she was essentially preaching these things to her students in her class, knowing full well that she is legally breaking the law by doing so and even going so far as mentioning that too.
Telltale made a video about that sort of thing, how this kind of preaching is wrong to do at a public school and doesn't belong there, a sentiment i whole heartedly agree with
however, following this, the town that Telltale lives in has quite literally turned against him... the deep south showing its ugly true face once again.
I don't want to make this journal longer than it needs to be and link Telltale's video he made about this below, so you can check that out for further details but long story short:
the town created a FaceBook group (which was now removed) with about half the town joining in and leveling threats against Telltale and his family. Telltale was doxed, he had people drive by his house at all times making pictures of the house, on the FaceBook page itself threats were raised to kidnap Telltale's daughter as well as to burn down Telltale's house with Telltale still inside it.
Police has been informed but this is the deep south were are talking about so its unlikely that they are on Telltale's side and he very much expresses the same thing in the video he made.
the long and short is that because of these massive threats levelled against Telltale and his family, he has no choice but to leave both the town and county, possibly even the state.
its pretty fucked up... but I suppose that is the deep south for you...

FNV: The Frontier mod and ZuTheSkunk
General | Posted 5 years agonot to long ago, a large scale mod project for Fallout New Vegas called "The Frontier" was released. its a very large scale mod that adds in a new overworld for you to explore, new weapons, new armors, new quests and tons upon tons of other stuff. the mod was in development for 7 years in total so you can imagine how much work and effort went into it.
I remember hearing about that mod way back in the day and even though I agreed that the mod did indeed sound very cool, ultimately I had little interest. I had stopped playing New Vegas for a while, which is a game older than Skyrim at this point so... yeah. I simple had moved on turning to other games so initially i didn't pay to much attention to it all.
until the controversy, that is...
what is this controversy?
well...
let me tell you about a guy called ZuTheSkunk, who is part of the furry community with accounts here on FA (deactivated) and on inkbunny. he was one of the developers of FNV: The Frontier and worked on this mod with various other people for the last 7 years.
ZuTheSkunk is also the focus of a major controversy
or well, people call it controversy but in my humble opinion, its more of a witch hunt
long story short, some people from 4chan grew for one reason or another a hate boner against FNV: The Frontier and tried to bring it down ever since. harassing the devs and what not... typical 4chan-scum behavior.
well, these same people are accusing ZuTheSkunk to own child pornography. these allegations have lead to the mod being taken down from the Nexus modding website, ZuTheSkunk getting kicked off the development, the development team trying to distance themselves from both ZuTheSkunk and FNV: The Frontier with many of the other devs leaving the team as well to go their separate way.
this has been reported on various gaming news websites during the week. on websites like kotaku or escapistmagazine.com

his poor management of the pandemic, his temper tantrum following his loss in the election, the baseless lawsuits which have been universally shot down and last but not least, the storming of the capitol building by Trump supporters after Trump whipped them into a frenzy on january 6th...
yeah, i'm not going to miss that man...
its now up to Joe Biden to pick up the pieces that Trump has left behind but so far, he went off to a good start. he's treating the pandemic with the seriousness it requires for one.
for the other, well... Biden is already rekindling friendly relationships with Japan, promising to aid them in the defense of the Senkaku islands which are internationally recognized as being part of Japan's territory and who have been contested by China with the chinese having made repeated incursions around the Senkaku area
in general has China been trying to expand their territory and sphere of influence in the south china sea, with them trying to muscle out many other asian nations so that China may gain control of an area that is rich in resources as well as a very important sea trade route
there are some people, even here on FA, who for some reason like to accuse this mild mannered and very pro-capitalist democrat Joe Biden of being a communist and very pro China and yadda, yadda, yadda... you know, the usual character assassination that Trump and his supporters like to conduct.

its now up to Joe Biden to pick up the pieces that Trump has left behind but so far, he went off to a good start. he's treating the pandemic with the seriousness it requires for one.
for the other, well... Biden is already rekindling friendly relationships with Japan, promising to aid them in the defense of the Senkaku islands which are internationally recognized as being part of Japan's territory and who have been contested by China with the chinese having made repeated incursions around the Senkaku area
in general has China been trying to expand their territory and sphere of influence in the south china sea, with them trying to muscle out many other asian nations so that China may gain control of an area that is rich in resources as well as a very important sea trade route
there are some people, even here on FA, who for some reason like to accuse this mild mannered and very pro-capitalist democrat Joe Biden of being a communist and very pro China and yadda, yadda, yadda... you know, the usual character assassination that Trump and his supporters like to conduct.
I wonder how they are going to explain/justify this nonsense now, after Biden made a statement that is very much against China and is not going to make him very popular in Beijing...

ever since Biden's win in the election was announced, Trump has been on and on about supposed "fraud" with extremely little actual proof to back up those claims. he launched countless lawsuits against this so called fraud and he lost just as many lawsuits or had them outright dismissed
and oh is it a joy now to hear republicans from Georgia say to Trump "the data you have is wrong" in the beginning
Trump tries to argue that "inner parts" of machines might have been replaced which got shot down quite quickly.
of course Trump has to be Trump and he utters a less than subtle threat against both Brad Raffensperger and Ryan Germany at 1:53
they don't agree with Trump so he threatens them "that's a big risk for you"

one of my favorite lines is just 3 seconds later with Trump saying a line that will probably become a meme: "in my opinion, based on what I've heard"
lol, yeah sure, because the line "in my opinion, based on what I've heard" sounds suuuper reliable and convincing, doesn't it? XD
here, let me just demonstrate to you how reliable this argument is *clears throat* "in my opinion, based on what I've heard, it is perfectly safe to breathe water"
or how about

even though that quote is definitely amongst my favorites, i gotta admit i also love the part around 2:19 where Trump tells Brad and Ryan that he wants to somehow find 11,780 votes in his favor. now to me, that sounds like he's trying to order Brad and Ryan to commit voter fraud by somehow creating these 11,780 votes... which is quite interesting given that for the past few weeks, all Trump has ever done is go out in public and say "voter fraud is bad, m'kay?" XD

Star Wars Squadrons is a fun, awesome game and well worth the purchase and playing it. especially if you grew up with games like X-Wing vs Tie Fighter or X-Wing Alliance. its fun
but you're not here for that... you're here for the big one...
well... EA has been in the hot water in various countries who are going against EA's lootboxes due to the whole gambling thing... and well, once again the Netherlands, who are among the most aggressive in coming after EA for this, have now officially fined EA 10 million bucks for breaking gambling laws.
so, let's all sit back and enjoy this moment of EA's misery :)

Microsoft buys Zenimax/Bethesda
General | Posted 5 years agoBit of old news at this point but a few days ago Microsoft bought Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda, for 7 billion dollars
which is pretty huge in the gaming world. I suppose this is a blow for Sony because many of the upcoming Fallout and Elder Scrolls titles are believed to go Xbox/PC exclusive now because of this... buuut I'm a PC player as my main platform anyways so it doesn't make that much of a difference to me. actually it never really has, usually most of the Xbox game that interest me have launched on PC as can be seen now with HALO which is being ported to PC
I do wonder though... in the future, does this purchase with Microsoft now in charge mean that future Bethesda titles will have less bugs? Oh I'm sorry... I forgot... those aren't bugs, those are features...

Unskippable Ads added to EA's UFC 4

being a sports game however means its one of EA's cash cows. if you've been paying attention, you know how greedy and outrageous EA has become in their microtransactions and lootboxes for their sports games. its what makes most of their profit and what keeps the company in business because people keep buying them
well, now they are going the next step and they added unskippable ingame Ads that pop up during gameplay. footage captured during play is showing several ads for an Amazon Prime show called "The Boyz", with the ads ranging from a giant logo in the middle of a boxing or wrestling ring or whatever as well as several unskippable video clips showing up. take a look: https://www.reddit.com/r/assholedes.....rcials_in_the/
EA's UFC 4 is not a free to play game where something like this might have been excused. EA's UFC 4 is a full price 60$ game. these Ads were not in the game upon release and have been patched in 2 weeks after release in a very obvious move to bypass negative criticism from large scale video game reviewers and journalists... although given how much of a shill some of them are, Kotaku and Polygon come to mind, I'm almost surprised that they didn't launch the game with the ads to begin with...
anyways, there is a lot of backlash already, EA has already released its empty and hollow copy and past apology of "oh we didn't know this would look badly, we are so sorry, we should have better communicated" when some claim that EA was well aware of negative backlash in advance but did it anyways...
