So I've been working from a 9 year old laptop and it's been limping along for long enough now that I think it's time to replace it with something that's actually functional. I'm looking at about 1300USD for the machine I want.

So as some of you know, I was a passenger in a car accident in the middle of last month. I've been getting medical treatment since then and have recently started physical therapy. About a week ago, I lost my job as a result. It was fairly physical and there were some things that I simply could not do.

Now I'm not at risk of becoming homeless or anything like that, but finances are going to be tight until I get a job that I can do with my current restrictions. In the interest of easing that burden, I will be opening three commission slots. More will be opened once the initial three are complete.

I know I haven't been around as much as I said I'd try to be. Recovery is continuing to go well. My physical therapist says I'm around 80% now which is amazing. The day to day stuff I can do mostly without strain, work itself being somewhat excepted since it's a physical job and has just been crazy for unrelated reasons.

So! I'm going to try this Inktober thing. Going to try to get all the days. Just want to try something a little more simple to get back into the swing of things and I'll get back to my colored pieces eventually. For added fun (for me) I'm going to try a pokemon theme for the lot of them.

About two months ago I injured my hand. The doctors told me it's a pinched nerve, think like carpal tunnel but the medial nerve instead. For a good while, I couldn't draw for more than 5 minutes without needing to stop because the pain got so bad. I'm now finally at a point where I can draw a little again, so hopefully you'll see things show up without months in between. It's not fully recovered yet, not sure if it will be, but it's slowly headed in the right direction.

We lost my cousin Friday night. Cousin found her when he came home from work. I heard Saturday morning, went to work anyway because who can find coverage on an hour's notice? Funeral is Tuesday/tomorrow.

We became friends at a high school summer camp. Later, she moved into the area for college, and she and my cousin married some 5 years ago now. She'd just had her 26th birthday in January.

It's still surreal to me. So if I turtle for a while, or suddenly turn out more art (keeping busy helps me), you all know why. Some of you I should probably have told personally - if you are one of those, feel free to ask questions privately over skype.

When describing the species of characters, do you prefer to use/read gendered or non-gendered terms? What I mean by this is, would you prefer use of the word "bear" to "sow"? "Canine" or "dog" or something more species specific to "bitch"?

I've come across the latter a couple of times reading stories here, and have found it jarring. Not so much in the cases of tiger vs tigress, but in the canine example the gender-specific term coincides with a slur (whether or not it is demeaning in the world in which the story takes places is something of a non-issue as far as I'm concerned).

Approximately once I year, I do a batch of freebies. If I remember right, the past few years it's been around the end-of-year holidays. For various reasons that didn't quite work out this year. But! I do still intend to do it, just this month instead of last.

So if there's something you'd like to see involving your (or a friend's) characters, reply with what you'd like and references. I'll pick out some I like and illustrate them. You'll be getting at least linework and very likely flat color as well. However, I won't be giving previews or edits. If something is glaringly wrong (like I dyed your character neon pink or something), you can note me and we'll talk.

Cutoff for applications will be my birthday at the end of the month, the 29th. One per person.

Figured I'd try something different. For every five commissions I get, I'll raffle one freebie. The type of freebie will depend on the commissions. For example, if all five are linework only, the freebie will also be lines. If the commissions are flatcolored or shaded, the freebie will be the same. Should there be two lineworks, two flatcolors, and one shaded, or any other mix, it will be up to my discretion. I'll make a separate journal when it comes time for the raffle(s). Firstly, I haven't dropped off the face of the world... just off certain corners of the internet for a while. Things have been busy. I have a training workshop for my new job from the 5th to the 7th. The 8th will be loads of last minute packing because we're moving across town on the 9th. So all good things. :)

Art-wise I've been on a bit of a human-kick, so while there's still the occasional anthro sketch, the pieces that get more than half-finished are usually the human ones right now. I have some ideas for landscapes and more abstract pieces that I haven't gotten the chance to work on yet. So here's the question - do you all like that sort of thing? Is it something you'd be interested in seeing?

As you may or may not have noticed, my latest submission is a writing piece. It's been a while since I've done much with that, beyond the occasional smattering of paragraph roleplays... all PG-rated, before you ask. A character concept that I've been sitting on for sometime over a year just evolved into an actual person, and I'm trying out more writing with her than visual (though each chapter will still have an image with flat-colored sketches from that chapter).

That said, the world she's living in is "borrowed" - as in not of my own creation.

For those of you familiar with this world, I'd appreciate feedback regarding consistency. For those of you who are not, I'd appreciate critique. Writing's been an on-again-off-again hobby for me for a while, and I want to improve it. Yes, it is a super-powered world. That aside, I'm aiming more at slice-of-life than action-thriller, though there will probably still be some of the latter.

I've got plans for chapters 2 and 3, and nebulous plans for a "sometime in the future" chapter. Ideally I'll have them up sometime around the dates that they actually take place, since the story is set in 2014, but with chapter 1 being on New Years and both 2 and 3 taking place on the 5th of January, we'll see how well that actually plays out.

I swear, any game that allows you to die by excessive falling? I WILL die that way.

Played L4D2 for the second time last night, and for the first time with friends, on easy of course. It all went pretty well till the end of the series of missions, shortly before we were to be picked up off the top of a skyscraper by helicopter. And... I got knocked off the edge of the building. Cue the gigglefits. It probably entertained me much more than it should have.

Likewise, when I first started playing Minecraft... I would fall off all of the cliffs. This became a regular enough occurrence that the same friend who was with me for my inaugural L4D2 experience threatened to build fences around all the cliffs so that I *couldn't* fall off.

Bastion? Also fallen off the edge of the world in that one.

Now to be fair, I don't game much. When I do, though, I end up with spectacular falling deaths.

Well the house was closed on a few days ago and we're moved into the apartment, though a lot is still in boxes.

I've started up the jobhunt again. Wish me luck! Seems I need it. ^_~

Have a few pieces still to upload from the last livestream (once I find them again). There hasn't really been much by way of art in the meantime.

As of a few minutes ago I'm poking at a character concept by means of comic. Unsure if I'll post it here yet or not. It currently lives on index cards and is not intended to be a serious attempt at comicking, as it's in the form of very loose sketches.

Happy Independence Day to everyone in the US!

So the family did make an offer, it's been accepted and we're in the middle of that process now. We'll be out of the house by the middle of August at the latest. We've got several things to get done in the meantime, home inspection and the like.

And just as a general reminder, commissions are open. I will, of course, work with you to make the result something you'll be happy with, since streaming and the instant feedback that comes with that isn't working out at the moment.

We've had people in to view the house almost everyday since the open house, and this is likely to continue. One family so far has come for a second viewing, though whether or not they'll make an offer is still unknown.

I'm going to put streaming on hold until this gets resolved, since setting everything up only to take it down again the same night hasn't worked out for me.

In addition, I've managed to damage my laptop by dropping it 2 feet - some of the letters on the keyboard no longer work or have acquired alternate functions and the touchpad and right and left keys are touch-and-go. I'm currently using a plug in mouse and an on-screen keyboard. I can get it repaired once I find the warranty, though I suspect it's in a box in storage at the moment. If I am slower to reply or just around less in general, these are why.
