Getting busy
Posted 13 years agoOkay, I'm going to start getting serious with commissions. I wrote out a terms of service and will hopefully be able to come up with some good deals over the next few weeks. Our Hawaii trip has been up in the air, but recently we found out my husband's grandma has a life expectancy of only a year... so it's insanely important that we go this year. I just don't know how everything will work on in the end financially... but I'm just trusting that it will all work out. So, I'm trying to just pull in a little extra cash on the side.
Tomorrow I'll hopefully get a chance to work on some traditional badges to see if that sparks anybody's interest. I also need to get to the post office tomorrow and I need to get out to the comic book shop to turn in my entries.
I also downloaded Evernote for my computer and for my phone. Dang. This program is pretty amazing. I think I can finally get things organized and more importantly, I'll have access from where ever I go.
Anyway, just putting down some thoughts.
I'm starting a blog as well in hopes to put all my commission/trade information there. We'll see how that goes!

Distracted
Posted 13 years agoWorking on some contest entries for a manga/anime contest that is held at a local comic book shop here. I have to turn them in by tomorrow... heh. I'll get back to my regularly scheduled commissions and trades as soon as I get these done. IF I get these done is probably the better statement.

Posted 13 years agoI feel pretty blessed. My mother came and surprised me and said that she would help me pay for a new computer. One of these days I'll post a picture of the computer I was using xD There was nothing wrong with it, per say, except for the fact that it was immobile. An immobile laptop... oi. Anyway, so long story short I was able to get a new laptop this weekend. Found one that can play the games I want and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Now I just have to get everything moved from the old one to the new one. So after everything is said and done, I hope to be a bit more active online since my computer will be more accessible now!
So I'm also looking for advice on how to get more business... Right now, I don't have much time to have a heavy workload, I'll admit, but in a couple of months my art might be the only income we have as my husband will be between jobs. He works a union job, so there may be a time where he's off for a month or two at a time and when he's home I hope to be able to take on a heavy work load.
I know I am at one huge disadvantage that I can never go to cons... So I can't advertise that way.
I suppose my other question is, how long did it take you to get a decent work load? How much of an online presence does somebody need to have to get a steady work load? For somebody that offers traditional and digital, what is the one that customers typically choose?

Posted 13 years agoJust wanted to make a journal so I can prove that I am still around. My free time has been pretty much sucked away from me. I got a couple hours this weekend to finally work on art, so I've been working hard to finish my commission. After that I've got some trades to complete and then I may just disappear for a bit until I can get some free time again.

Posted 13 years ago... I feel you and me are going to be at odds this week, again. My baby girl is teething this week, and she has turned into a little grizzly bear. I've actually managed to set her down for five minutes to try to check on some updates and realized that it would probably just be best to let people that I owe are to know that I probably won't get a chance to work on any of it until either this weekend or next week... It'll just depend on when she gets out of this phase. @_@
I'll try to still post stuff on my Tumblr just because it's the easiest thing to access from my phone. So, until we meet again!

Uneasy
Posted 13 years agoMy husband ended up having the day off of work today because a coworker fell 28 feet through some grating. The guy is in critical condition as of yesterday...
I think we're all having one of those moments of realization of how fast accidents like that happen. It's just scary and pretty unnerving knowing that the place my hubby works is dangerous.
Anyway, I haven't had much time to work on art right now. My family life has been busy, and our baby has been pretty high maintenance this last week.
So I'm just trying to chug along and work on stuff when I can.

Playing Catch Up
Posted 13 years agoI haven't had any time to look through my submissions yet. Well, I've glanced at them but haven't been able to comment on anybody's artwork. x_x
I'll probably have more time to finally catch up to it all after I get these two commissions done. It's like every free moment I have I dedicate to getting them done. Chasing two kids around eats up a lot of my free time, lol.
I suppose I don't really have too much else interesting going on... This weekend is Fur Rondy which is probably one of my favorite times of the year. It's the biggest sprint sled dog race of the year up here. This will be one of the first years that I'm actually not helping with the race what so ever, so it's going to be weird just sitting back and watching it all go down. It makes me miss dogmushing so much... but fortunately my son will be turning four this year meaning he's old enough to run the one dog class! Now hopefully he actually will want to, lol.

Posted 14 years agoDoes anybody have any sort of resources in regards to Commission Etiquette? I'm just looking for a basic rule of thumb of the commission process. For example, what is a good time frame from the the day that a customer pays you to the day that you finish and ship out the commission. Now, I understand that it's going to be different for every artist, but that's why I'm just looking for some writing on how a "typical commission" should work.
I mostly would like this so that way I know in the future if I ever run into problems with customers or with somebody that I commission.

How's it going?
Posted 14 years agoI finally did a piece of artwork that I feel I could post here. All the other stuff I do just doesn't seem... FA-ish. If that makes sense... Anyway, how's everybody doing? Sorry, I just feel so out of touch with everybody. I just remember back in the day when I was more involved and now I'm just such a lurker... I still love keeping up with everybody, even if I'm terrible at doing it.
I think it's amazing seeing so many artists that I've been watching over the years progress with the style. Some people have become such amazing artists that it makes me jealous and makes me wish I had spent more time over the last three years drawing. I'm sure glad I'm doing more now... The trick is now to just keep it up!

I've also finally gave in to my hubby and tried playing League of Legends. Pretty damn entertaining. And it's free. :3 Except I totally spent five bucks to play Warwick. Mhm. Yay werewolf!!

Posted 14 years agoI had an incident over this last weekend and have been put on bedrest. I'm currently 30 weeks pregnant and I'm instructed to be on bedrest until our little girl is born. Fortunately she's doing wonderful and so am I! I'm just bored out of my mind and it hasn't even been a week yet, lol. This is the first time I've been back on a computer since this weekend, so fortunately I have lots of updates and what not.
Anyway, this should give me lots of time to do some doodles and whatnot. :)

Posted 14 years agoDang, I'm super proud of myself. My workload is already almost done. I've got one trade left to finish and then I'm out of stuff to do! Granted, I did not have a giant work load by any means... but I am proud of myself for having a decent turn around time for the ones I did have. Hopefully in a couple of months from now I can still keep this good turn around time.
It's weird, right now I seem to be able to draw everybody else's character but my own. Hrm.
So is anybody else excited about seeing the Lion King in theaters again? I don't really care about the 3d part... I just want to see it on the big screen again. It'll be like reliving my child hood.

However, I am very interested in still creating badges for others as they seem to be a pretty fun to create. That and they should be pretty easy commissions to do as well xP

I currently only work in traditional media. I sketch with a .05 mechanical pencil, ink with Microns and color with PrismaColors. Sometimes I'll use acrylic paints to add details to images. I hope to get examples up shortly.
I DO NOT DRAW PORN, GRAPHIC NAKED PICTURES, OR FETISHES. I will do a nude drawing, however there will not be details of genitals or breasts. If there is something you have in mind and not sure if I will do it, please feel free to ask.

LOL. I didn't realize that now I have to "buy" watches from people. Amazing how much things change in a couple of years...

***************************So... the honeymoon is over and life is back to normal. I had some time to get some pictures done and I finally got them uploaded tonight. Woo! I got an awesome new desk so I can actually have a "work desk" and I am beyond excited about it. In fact, I'm so excited that I'm just sitting here, surfing the internet, cuz I don't want to leave it yet, haha.
Anyway, I do have a question. Would anybody be interested in a trade? One character bust in traditional media for an awesome icon for me. I hate my current icon, and I want one that looks nice or at least looks better than what I currently have. I just need a face shot of Sequinox... doing something. Also, I would like something with some color. Anyway, if anybody is interested, let me know! Otherwise I will find other means of obtaining an awesome icon.
