MCFC hit it out of the park, couldn't have asked for a better weekend.

I caught up with old friends I've really missed talking to and even made some new ones!


Halfway though the con I had this great idea to tape my small Windows tablet to my con lanyard, using it as a slideshow to display all my badges rather than clipping them all over my shirt like a adorable toony plate-mail suit of armor. XD

The idea seemed to have very positive reactions, I must've explained how I did it to 15 different people in the day and a half I wore it.

(on a side note if anyone's curious I could throw a little idea sheet together!)



Really though, props to the MCFC staff for making such an awesome event and to all the awesome folks that made the event COMPLETELY worth the price of admission and then some. Already excited for next year!

Not sure if I posted any "con plans for 2015" or whatever so I figured I'd list out my hopes for this year.


Looks like I will likely be able to attend Anthro New England, didn't expect to even try for this con because of the distance but my mate and I were convinced into at least /trying/ to attend by  dexraccoon :L

Hoping to be able to head towards Boston for ANE on Thursday and head back on Monday, gotta plan in some personal wiggle room as neither my mate or I have ever flown! Will be an interesting experience.



The more local cons I hope to attend are as follows!

Hope everyone has had an acceptable first 8 days of 2015, I can't wait to see what this year's antics bring!

What a con! This was my first year at Midwest FurFest, and only the second time I've stayed overnight at a con hotel. MCFC this year doesn't count, yes I was there for both Saturday and Sunday, but we had to crash at a nearby friends house and the entire trip was /completely/ unplanned. :3

MFF was a much needed refresher for me. I never lose my love for this community, but being physically away from most of my furry friends can lead to an artificial dulling of my "mood". Originally I had only hoped to attend MFF, tried a few times to get rooming set up but nothing was guaranteed. My mate girlyhyena and I took a trip to Grand Rapids for some furmeets in October, and ended up making an awesome new friend while visiting a friend's house.

Meeting milesablackwolf was exactly what we needed to get our MFF plans cooking, he had room space available and definitely proved an awesome roommate all around. Miles brought so much food with him, we had a "Thanksgiving" feast on Friday night and then ate like pigs with the leftovers for the entire weekend. Funny thing is, we were keeping the food warm in half-submerged baggies in a warm CrockPot for the entire con and still managed to get less sick than lots of people... Huh.

AJ and I were only able to be there for part of the con, we pulled in at about 8PM on Friday night and had to leave at 9PM on Sunday. Couldn't take any days off work, but even with our con cut short, we were there for most of the "FUN"...

Saturday night was interesting. We had our room in the Hilton, but of course we were in the Hyatt lobby when stuff started to go down. Once things started heating up we bailed pretty quick and watch the "show" from the hallway window on the Hilton's 5th floor. We had our own little "WindowCon" where I was giving out Mountain Dew Throwback and somebody else had grabbed a box of cookies to share.

Some of our roommates hung back at the Hyatt to try and help out, so once they showed up an hour or so after us we held a "refugee camp" in our room while the Hyatt was locked down. We had (I think) 12 people in our room, all feasting on the ham and turkey we had hot. Somehow we still managed to get a respectable amount of sleep that morning...


TL;DR, MFF was awesome. Really jumpstarted my love for this community, and I'll be damned if I don't go to as many cons as possible now that I have a salary.

(Oh yeah, I meant to mention that I started a new job the day after MFF. Salary IT position, so I should have nearly guaranteed time off for cons and funds so I can buy cool things like art and fursuits. :D)

I've been trying to sell off some of the miscellaneous computer stuff and laptops I have laying around to clear some room, but I've also been using some of the funds to get my hands on some new things to try out!

Some things I shouldn't have bought, but I did nontheless...

I picked up a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 2 a few weeks back, the Yoga line of "tablet-tops" has been on my radar since they showed off a prototype when Windows 8 was pending release. It's pretty good, but I really shouldn't have spent $450 on it. I'll likely sell it to my mom in exchange for a "yet-unnamed" purchase in the future.

Also decided to try out the HP Stream 7 tablet, seems like a crazy piece of tech for a freakishly low price ($100) and I figured that would be worth playing with.

Last but not least, OnePlus just HAD to send me an invite to buy the One /right/ before MFF so I had to spend money on that too. Been eying that phone for months now, and I'd likely never see another invite if I hadn't acted on that one.

As it stands though, I may have some OnePlus One invites coming my way because I bought one, so I may be able to give some out to whoever might want one!

Plans are still completely up in the air, but I registered anyways!

Attendance really hinges on whether or not  girlyhyena can get days off. If worse came to worse we could always do just sat/sun but it's a bit of a drive for one night.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy. Loved it of course, but it was also my first movie in IMAX 3D.

Nothing I can say here that hasn't already been plastered across FA; movie was good overall, but I especially enjoyed Rocket blah blah blah.

Though I've missed the last few of the newest Marvel movies, I love the Marvel universe.

Can't wait for GotG to get released on Blu-Ray, I really want to see it again but I can't swing another $15 to see it again in theaters. Now I have two movies to binge watch when they release. This and HTTYD2. :D

So I ended up deciding to face the crowds, and I saw the new How to Train Your Dragon movie.

Three syllables: Ho. Lee. FUCK.

Dreamworks has done it again; going to lose another few hundred hours of my life to watching THIS on repeat once it gets released on BluRay.

Not going to say much about it (BECAUSE YOU SHOULD GO WATCH IT), but I will mention that it was revealed that canon Hiccup was only fifteen in the first movie... So basically, LOOK AT ALL THIS (NOW) UNDERAGE EXPLICIT ART ON FA! x3

Turned out to be a good time, the theater was only about 2/3 full and I gotta say, this ranks at least a 9.5/10 in my opinion. Not too proud that it brought me to tears a few times, but I'm not embarrassed either. Toothless is srs bsns to me. <3

Not looking forward to the $50+ I'll likely spend seeing it in theaters a few more times, but damn it all if Toothless isn't the biggest damn character crush I've ever had and /continue/ to have.

TL;DR: WATCH THE NEW HtTYD MOVIE. JUST DO IT AAAAA

The new How to Train Your Dragon movie is opening Thursday evening. Been waiting for this to freaking come out since they announced the sequels back in 2010. Can't wait to see new Toothless content, and I excitedly await all the new art the movie will inspire. Loove me some Toothless fanart.


Really debating going to see it on opening night, but I don't know if it will be fully worth the lines. Could be fun!

So I had ABSOLUTELY no intention of making it to MCFC this year, but the stars decided I needed to go! The original excuse was that sadly my Uncle passed away, and the funeral was on Friday, 350+ miles away from my home. Plans were for me to leave from work Thursday afternoon and head up to crash with family in Detroit, but I had to find a way to kill a few hours before they would be available. Much to my gleeful surprise, I realized that I would pass the Novi Sheraton on my way. I stopped in for three hours or so that evening, and I noticed just how much better I was feeling.

I stopped back in for long enough to brave the reg line on my way back home Friday afternoon (even if I wasn't going to be able to use it I still wanted one dangit!).

Friday night I called up my yenabutt girlyhyena and my friend colleeto5 to see if they wanted to make a Saturday day-trip back up to Novi because neither had ever been to a con! We had so much fun we ended up finding a place to sleep with a friend and stayed until Sunday evening.

It's amazing how much an awesome community can help make hard times better. MCFC turned my week from bleak and sad into one of the best I've had. I /WILL/ be coming back next year, and this time with all the intention humanly possible!

So anyways, I have a small collection of footage and a collection of pictures to sort and edit... Most pictures will probably be submitted collages of 4 to combat spamming.

Six months is long enough for a featured journal to start smelling stale, right? Whatever. :P

Would love to set MCFC in my sights, but I can't guarantee that my work schedule will allow me to have fun. :C

Is it too early to start preemptive planning for MFF?

Being that this past July included my long awaited 18th birthday, I've been slowly taking advantage of some of the perks of adulthood.

Through a mixture of procrastination and lack of money I had to wait until after my birthday to get my driving skills test done, so I never had to deal with the stupid curfew and passenger limit that Michigan has on <18 drivers.

I also was finally able to but a Zippo, which has been a thing I've idly wanted for a few years just to play with.

I took my Mosin Nagant out to the range today to finally legally shoot it by myself, which ended in me putting rounds through it so fast that the cosmoline- soaked wood was actually boiling and smoking from the heat. I actually have a video of it, and I will post it to my YouTube channel soon. (SerimanTheWolf c: )

So yeah... Fun stuff happening, but I do need to look for a job and start college and all that too. It's a really long shot, but I'd like to see if I could make it to MFF. Likely not, but I couldn't manage FCN this year and I'd like to have at /some/ furry-related fun this year!

6. What do you do in your spare time?
I so a lot of sitting at my computer desk. What I do here can range from physically building/modifying things to setting up servers to gaming. Almost my entire home life centers around this desk and its surrounding areas.

I am technically jobless at the moment, but I get inconsistently paid to water plants at my school's greenhouse.

8. What's one thing you like about yourself?
I like that I can bounce back from bullying and the like easily. Years and years of being constantly torn down has really thickened my skin persay.

I have problems starting and maintaining conversations with people I don't know very well. That really puts a damper in meeting new people.

Every time I check here I see that more of my friends are going, and I get bummed because my family decided to pick that weekend to host a Thanksgiving party... As much as I want to, I can't go.

Oh well, there's always next year! Plus, I'm also trying to shoot for FCN again next year. Don't know if I'll have my own income by then, so I'm already saving money. \o/

I leave for my senior year of high school marching band camp tomorrow! I haven't fully decided if I am going to continue with band when I get to college, but it won't be quite the same either way. xD

I get to leave for camp a day earlier than almost everyone else, because I made it into the leadership group of our band. That means I get to help instruct band mates and fix minor errors! :D

Yep, today's my birthday! My parents both have jobs (thankfully) so I don't get to do anything until tomorrow. XD

Really looking forward to tomorrow, because we're going out to eat to celebrate both my mine and my mom's birthday which was 5 days ago.

Holy hell did I make a great choice attending FCN as my first con!

I don't really have the motivation to write out a play-by-play of my weekend (and you probably don't want to read it), but I will say that I had more fun than I thought I would.

I got to meet up with  wolfemasters on Sunday after playing twitter tag all weekend, and I found out that a close family friend of ours is a furry. I believe his FA is  eccoblackfin. Fun stuff. :D

If at all possible, I am going back next year.

Also one last thing... Fursuit hugs... I want MOAR! xD

I sense a huge backup in my submission inbox during the month of February... My laptop, my main and by far best computer, died on me yesterday. Complete hard drive failure.

I do have full damage coverage, but I still lose the PC for pretty much all of next month. I would have fixed it myself, but I have a year of coverage left. I say my inbox will back up because I normally save a great deal of the submissions I get to my computer, and I don't want to save them to my other computer from which I am typing this from. I'd rather just let the numbers pile up until can restore my library from my backup. :P

On the plus side, maybe I can convince my Computer Technologies teacher to sell me one of his desktops by telling him I have no other suitable computer to do work on for the next month. xD

I definitely have had my fair share of problems with Apple products/services, but I can't deny that Steve Jobs was a great inventor and CEO. He pushed his company to new and amazing heights, and he has really made some amazing products.

Twitter's "Trending Topics" was almost completely full of Jobs related topics, the only one that wasn't about him was a trend about some other person that died.

Apple's products may annoy me to some extent, but they have nearly the best products on the market in terms of reliability and stability.

Some swear off of Apple, others off of PC. While I am and will remain a content PC user, I do like Apple stuff as well.

If you asked me which I'd prefer, it would really depend on what the intended use of the product would be.
