I think Vurmin needs a nemesis. Right now she just hates everybody. She seems more like a villain type. Ya know, the kind who acts evil, but who is really good deep, deep, DEEP down somewhere. I think. Even wrestlers have enemies. Good vs Evil is everywhere. Yep.

Granted she has a few friends scattered here and there.

Ok. I know I just am getting into this whoooole breeding rats thing. I wasn't even too worried about color genetics, but a couple of breeders around me have been nice enough to help me with colors, markings, learning genetics, writing pedigrees when I can and even writing up adoption contracts. That being said there are some other breeders around me that ((yes have more experience)) but also have some of the snottiest 'I am God's gift to rat breeding' attitude that I've ever seen. As if they can make no mistake and when they do it's totally not their fault and they shouldnt be held accountable for it. This really puts me off. I love help and advice and even a bit of crit here and there, but not with such an ass hat attitude. Their rats are great 'looking'. But just the way this breeder is attitude wise. That puts me off. I'd never adopt from them now I don't care how fantastic they think they are or they claim their rats are. I mean I 'thought' the whole intent of getting into breeding was to better the breed. Rats that are healthier, sweethearts and I thought things like coat colors and such were last on the list. My bad. Guess I was wrong. Apparently seems to be all about "Im better than you, my rats are cuter than yours" these days. Another reason I'll never try to be an 'official' rattery. I'm not cut out for 'My rat is better than yours' arguments. I love all rats. =/

This is a group for any and all pet lovers. It does not matter what kind of pet you have. Come in and talk about it! Tarantulas, rats, rabbits, dogs, cats, pigs, fish, horses, snakes we don't care! bring them all! There are a few simple rules.

1. Be respectful. This means I cannot allow you to post photos of say your pet snake eating a rat. Rats are dearly loved by some members of this group and although you may think it's fascinating others do not. Also, be kind and remember all members love their pet no matter what it is. Comments like 'gross' or 'kill it' will not be tolerated.

2. Discussions are allowed and welcome! However, there is a line between discussing and arguing. I will let discussions go on, but when they start getting rude/hurtful it ends there.

3. I will ban people if I have to. I don't want to, but if I keep warning someone about something and they keep doing it I will have no choice.

4. HAVE FUN!! post pictures! Share stories! And please dont be afraid to ask for advice if you need help with anything.

This little Ratling gets to go see The Three Stooges movie on opening day even. Whoop Whoop Whoop! I can't wait! I am a HORRID Stooge fan and if they don't get everything as correct as possible I will be pissed. So far from what I've seen, the looks are as down as much as possible. Voices they got it. Actions seem legit, even the small stuff to Moe's weird facial expressions to how Curly plays with his fingers when he gets nervous. I really hope this movie doesn't let me down. And ofcourse you realize I will be wearing my Three Stooge T-Shirt when I go. My guy will probably act like he doesn't know me. Haha.

Was walking to bus stop today. Look down see a wolf spider crossing the road (aboo I had nothing to catch it in) so I go "Ok, shoo, go back in the woods or you'll get ran over." And try to nudge it with my finger. It does a U-Turn and goes under my shoe instead. I step back and say "Nooo...I said go in the wo--" runs right back under my moved foot. I finally had to walk on. It wouldn't leave me alone. Know how puppies follow people home? Apparently spiders do it with me. I joked with my fiance about it on the ride to the store "Oh, Mighty rescuer of spiders! I have heard of your greatness! We tell stories of your heroic deeds in my home land of web-oria!!" Good lord. lol

Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE my friends who own rats, but one reason I do NOT add alot of rat owners to like FB is the 'holier than thou' & 'YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!!' attitudes of most. I especially don't like to see someone asking for help and people who have had rats longer (and should know better) promptly go about scaring the fuck out of them and telling them what they've done wrong instead of giving them any help advice at all. I'm sorry guys, but rat owners are some of the most snooty people on the planet. Not all, but alot I've seen. I'm sure even a few of you rat peeps can agree with me. I've had so many rats and have had them for so long. Ive made mistakes and Im sure Ill make more. I never claim to know it all and never go up to someone and go "well that's not right" unless I KNOW for a fact its harming the rats health ((as in rats living on pine or cedar or something)).

Example: Im in a rat fanclub on FB. Someone adopts an older rat from a petstore instead of a baby. ((I am all for rescues and breeders before petstores, but Im not going to condemn this person either because Ive done it many times before)) Anyhow, This guy has probably been there since birth. She decides to give him a home, and where people are usually all "Awww" and "You saved him!" when it comes to babies. When she asks for help about intros everyone turns into seeming offended that she would dare bring home an older male rat and act as if introing him to her other adult males cannot possibly work. Now dont get me wrong, I love a select few on there, but Im not about to let my friend, who I KNOW for a FACT is a good rat owner, get discouraged for bringing home an older guy instead of a baby. Cripes!

PS - I also was ashamed at some of these members not helping her were the same people calmly patting people on the back for willy nilly breeding rats left and right. You know the 'just because' breeders. Ugh..grumble grumble.

Although I don't usually comment with the whole 'THANKS FOR THE WATCH' thing on your pages I do appreciate the watches + favs and I love comments.

Just to clear a few things up because I've been getting notes and comments and all kinds of things. I know people are concerned, but maybe this will help.


Facts:
I DO own a lot of rats
I DO breed some of my own rats ((I do adopt some out, but I don't claim to be one of the better breeders))
My rats stay on either ASPEN or CAREFRESH
I DO keep mother rats and their nursing pups in 10 gal tanks until at 5 wks where the babies are separated into their own 10 gals ((by genders)) until they are able to go into the larger cages without fear of them popping out of cage bars.
I keep two rats at a time in a tank with babies. The mother rat and a cagemate.
I do NOT keep males and females together except for a few days when trying to breed them.
I do NOT do back to back breeding
I do NOT sell LIVE rats for feeders.
I do NOT feed my snakes live rats.
I DO know humane 'Co2 chamber' methods. ((Sticking rats in the freezer is NOT one of them))
All of my rats ARE socialized and loved.
When mother rats reach a certain age they ARE retired and live out the rest of their days happily as one of my pets.
I have owned over 100 rats
I have owned rats for 13+ years
I have only recently started breeding my own ((started last Nov-Dec)) because I do not like rodent mills.
RAT RESCUES + BREEDERS ARE THE BEST PLACES TO ADOPT YOUR RATS!


Please do not leave rude comments on my journal or send me rude notes. I will always take advice if you say it in a nice way. Rude comments about how I'm treating my animals will not be tolerated. Anyone who has known me even for a little while or who has been here and has seen my animals can tell you that I care for all of them ((rats, cats, dog, tarantulas, scorpions, roaches, snakes)) equally. ALL of our scorpions can, and if they do so desire, WILL sting people. None of their stingers have been removed and I would REFUSE to buy one from any petstore that had done such a horrid thing. I can understand them losing it naturally somehow via other scorpions or what have you. Yes, they can remove them, but it is cruel and there is no way to do it without harming the scorpion. =/

Fluffy kittens and bunnies, GROSS!

This is just a friendly journal entry. If you're going to look at my gallery I have pictures of scorpions, tarantulas, cockroaches and other creepy bugs. There are also rats ((obviously)) and snakes. I love them. Please take into consideration that although they might disturb you, they mean alot to me. I dont go on other peoples albums and diss all over hamsters and ferrets just because I dont like them, so I just expect the same kind of treatment. And thank you to everyone who has been nice about it. =)

PS - Commenting on how it scares you/is creepy doesn't bother me as badly. I understand some folks are just flat out TERRIFIED by things I have in my gallery. So saying "its scary as hell!" is fine aslong as you dont add "Its disgusting, You need to kill it" in there. Thanks.

Earlier today I found out that after going to a fireworks show, one of my good friends was killed coming home by a drunk driver. He leaves behind a pregnant fiance and a very young daughter. His fiance and daughter were also in the vehicle, but didn't suffer any major injuries. The drunk driver ofcourse also did not suffer any major injuries. So I ask anyone who reads this to please...PLEASE, if you must drink do it responsibly. Don't get behind the wheel of a car if you drink no matter how sure you think you are that you're ok. Don't let your friends do it. And be careful when out especially on holidays or really any time. I am heartbroken that a great guy, good friend and awesome dad had to be lost to someone elses foolishness. RIP, Michael A. Martinez. Im going to miss you, big guy. He was only 28 yrs old. =(
