Smaug!
Posted 13 years agoJust returned from watching The Hobbit. While I have mixed feelings about it (I don't mean to sound like a philistine but half of the movie wasn't in the book), I'll give credit where credit is deserved; Smaug's scenes are fantastic.
Especially the final shot. That gave me goosebumps. I'm so excited about part 2 now.

Embarrassing Moment of the Year
Posted 13 years agoEver been really into a song? Really, really into it? And that's the moment when your roommate comes home and sees you? And you try to maintain your dignity by praising the artist you're listening to, but you both know that it didn't work and you just gave her an entertaining drinking story?

Cartoon with 3 versions of each fairy tale, hosted by Asian
Posted 13 years agoThis has been driving me crazy. When I was a kid there was a cartoon show where in each episode, a fairy tale (usually one by the Brothers Grimm) was shown, in three versions. The first was usually the most widespread one, then there were two more regionalized versions of the same story. The show began with this big, epic 3D flyby through empty halls, as in space, and whenever the Asian man who hosted the show introduced a story, the country from where the fairytale came from lit up.
I particularly remember the Sleeping Beauty one, where there was this funky continuation of the story where the witch came back and hypnotized Sleeping Beauty, almost making her jump into a pot of acid before the prince came. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

Disney are evil
Posted 13 years agoFirst Brave, now Wreck-It-Ralph. WHY do Disney have to wait until February to release a film that premiers in the US in NOVEMBER? Do they get some sadistic kick out of torturing their fans in Europe? I've been so excited about this film for a long time, holding out for November, but nope. The creative people at Disney are awesome, but their execs are evil fuckheads.
Where is Folgers?
Posted 13 years agoI don't have Twitter so I didn't know where to ask this. What happened to Folgers (in a cup)? Today I checked out his tumblr and it was blank (along with the url "folgersisgone". Anyone know what happened? I loved his drawings and thoughts on life. :(
RIP Michael Clarke Duncan
Posted 13 years agoI just heard that he passed away. Boy does that suck :( Such a great actor, and what a handsome man. He was only 54. He was my first crush, so I felt compelled to share this. I had no idea what people were talking about on forums, saying RIP John Coffey. Now I know :( RIP, Michael Clarke Duncan.
I'm 26 today :D

iTunes is fascist
Posted 13 years agoSo, in Apple logic, because I am from Iceland, and because a Swedish artist falls under the American iTunes store, I can not buy their music. I'm told to buy the same music from the Icelandic store - where there is no music, only apps.
Fuck you, iTunes.

I got a new Wacom!!!
Posted 13 years agoThis day was great! I went to see Ice Age 4 (this is a great summer for movies), I found "Junior" by Röyksopp (great Norwegian electronica duo) and, even better, I GOT A NEW WACOM TABLET! And a proper one this time, Intuos4, the exact kind we used at my school. I've wanted it for a long time and finally struck gold by getting in touch with a seller with a little-used tablet.
The good news for my watchers (and I appreciate all of your watches) is that this means I can now seriously start updating my gallery. Stay tuned! :D

Brush teeth before breakfast? Why?
Posted 13 years agoWhy, in almost every American cartoon I've seen, do the characters always brush their teeth before eating breakfast? They even do that on Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends! Isn't brushing your teeth right before you eat breakfast redundant? Isn't the whole idea for the teeth to be protected for a period of time after you brush them? Is this an American thing?
Thanks a lot, General Mills
Posted 13 years agoThree things wrong with life off the top of my head:
1. People
2. Diseases
3. General Mills' Whole Grain Nation
Now Honey Nut Cheerios and Cocoa Puffs - cereal I have grown up with since I was a kid - has had all the taste removed from it. Now they taste like sandpaper. But hey, at least some chemicals are now gone. Way to go, General Mills -_-

Moto Moto vs Will-I-Am
Posted 13 years agoI watched Madagascar 2 for the first time tonight, and I love Moto Moto. What a beast. When I looked at a video on YouTube, most of the comments ran like this:
"Will-I-Am is so sexy in this movie."
"How does Will-I-Am do that?"
"Will-I-Am is sexy in all of his movies."
Here is this awesome character, a lecherous hippo, and everybody just mentions his voice actor. When did the artist behind something become bigger than the work they are trying to make? I notice that a lot in many American animated features, it seems that the more they can shove down our throats that the voice talents are celebrities, the story is an afterthought, and the audience are buying into it! I'm annoyed in this case because I really like Madagascar 2, and especially Moto Moto. Here is a character who was created for the film, and nobody can get past the guy who gives him his voice. That's backwards and, in fact, a little insulting to the character.
I think Hollywood, and people in general, could stand to tune their celebrity adoration down a bit, and appreciate what they are trying to create. Especially when it's someone like Moto Moto, woof.

Videogame animated villain movie - from Disney!
Posted 13 years agoStarring an 8-bit villain who just wants to prove that he's not such a bad guy. According to Wikipedia, the movie will feature guest appearances from Bowser, Dr. Wily, Zangief, Pacman Ghost and more. The teaser is a videogame but the movie itself will be 3D:
Some AWESOME things happening at modern Disney, clearly.

Breaking the gay stereotype
Posted 14 years agoYou know what's really keeping me in the closet? The general consensus of homosexual people. Not "homosexuality is evil" or anything like that, such stuff is thankfully unheard of here. But preconceptions, like gay men are feminine, that we all like Boy George and Elton John. That we all say "girl" and "oh my gooood" all the time.
I'm typing this as two (straight) guys around me age sitting next to me are talking about some gay guys who dropped out of our school, joking about their aforementioned "ways" (not viciously, noted, just tongue-in-cheek).
Let me tell you something; I am gay, and I find Jeffry McWild and Bob Sapp sexY while Heath Ledger and Jeff Stryker don't do anything for me. I like Björk and Justice; Boy George has never and will never been on my ipod. I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and pizza, and you will never get me to call you "girl" unless you are one, and even then I probably won't.
Case in point; my dad once knew a gay couple. One of them was the epitome of the popular stereotype; the walk, the pink clothes, the talking. His boyfriend, however, was completely down to earth, and sometimes he and my dad had drinks together.
Of course, many gay men are like this and that's fine, but I for one don't wanna come out of the closet to become somebody else I'm not, thank you. Am I alone in this? Why do we have to stereotype each other so much?

Boycott The Grey
Posted 14 years agoThe Grey is a film coming out starring Liam Neeson. It's already attracted a lot of controversy and for a reason. Neeson is up against wolves in the wilderness who are trying to kill him. What a throwback! I am so afraid that this movie will reinstate the horrible preconception so many people have about wolves. And if that's not enough, the movie's staff itself are up to beyond awful things:
http://www.ecorazzi.com/2012/01/17/.....ate-wolf-meat/
Really, how vile! I normally don't do this, but I encourage you, please don't see this movie. It will only encourage the horrible, unjust reputation wolves already have.
Mr Neeson, thumbs down.

Scanning tips
Posted 14 years agoHappy New Year! And a request:
What really stops me from uploading more of my work is that I don't know how to scan my drawings without having to re-draw them because of the poor transition of the lines from paper to screen.
Can somebody give me any suggestions? (Some suggestions as how to colour in Photoshop without losing those lines is welcome as well.)
