Accursed, Small, and Trivial Little Plastic Pieces
Posted 16 years agoI hate small trivial plastic pieces that are attached to expensive devices. Two cases in one day: There is a little plastic dial on my camera. This is a nice camera, mind you. Several hundread dollars. Not top of the line, but it's impressive. The dial broke off. Now, I take care of my stuff. It stays in a case when it's not in use, and when it is in use I handle it gently. The dial broke off. More like fell off, actually. When I noticed it was off, it had actually been balanced on the camera. Had I tipped it without knowing, the piece would be gone forever.
I was actually at Pilot Mountain, NC at the time. It looks like a nipple. http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/.....ics/pimo_2.jpg
Anyway, case 2: My mom calls me and tells me the knob on the washing machine fell off and she can't figure out how to get it back on. I get home from my trip and there it is. Turns out the plastic that attaches the knob to the washing machine broke from the knob itself. In the washing machine's defense, it's 15 years old, rather than 3 like the camera. Thing is, this knob is needed to start the machine. It's a $700 machine that is now useless because of a trivial knob. Anyway, my job now is to see if apoxy is actually strong enough to fix it, or if I can find an alternative.
sgolem, out.

Back again
Posted 16 years agoI'm back again. Once I get my desk organized I'm itching to start drawing again. It's been too long. School still comes first, but it's nowhere as intense as it was last year so I should be able to find the time. Great to see you guys again! I'm happy my absence hasn't scared everyone off! I love the community here and it's good to see familiar faces.
Scanners are fun!
Posted 16 years agoI actually have stuff to post, but my scanner is being a dookie. Oh well. I was able to find one I meant to submit a year ago, but forgot about. It's not a clean scan, but I have a test tomorrow, so it'll have to make do for now. Also, my girlfriend is going to be in town for a week, meaning I likely won't be on. We'll see.
Take care everyone!

After that long break
Posted 16 years agoI'm back. I now have 3163 messages. I guess life just got to busy for the internet. As much as I love it, the internet isn't quite as much of a priority as it used to be. A shame, cause I do love thee.
Anyway, I hope to be posting again. I plan on drawing stuff to post here too. I'm back in school now. A computer school though. I graduated, then didn't feel done I guess. The computer geek took control of me and demanded more knowlege I guess. I noticed I got a few new watches while I was gone. Maybe one every two months. Thanks guys, glad you like my archive. Maybe there will be more soon!
Good to be back,

Late, but neccesary rant.
Posted 17 years agoThis is about the election, so if you're scared of politics, run for the hills now.
Basically, my concern is being in a place full of people with the same points of view. Notably liberals (I mean the common use, not the correct use of the term "liberal"). Just about everyone at my school voted for Obama. There's nothing wrong with that, but my problem is the group think that goes with it. I see people with different opinions being cast aside as dumb. For example, one girl said that anyone that voted for McCain was retarded.
In contrast, I'd spoken to several of McCain's supporters who claimed that both candidates are smart and care about their country, but they disagree with what Obama's ideas are. The big difference is that they've actually spoken to me about politics and why they feel the way they do, as opposed to simply discounting the other candidate as dumb for no reason.
I'm sure that the opposite is present in many places, but my point is I hate it when people get in a group of people that feel the same way they do and become like this.
And for the record, I didn't vote for McCain.

CITIZENS OF EARTH!
Posted 17 years agoIt's me. I'm back. I am not abandoning this page. Just so you know. Basically, same as usual. All the drawing I do is basically for school, or projects I'm working on with other people. The stuff I post here is unfortunately at the bottom of the food chain. I am working on some stuff though. Maybe I'll have a surprise for you in the coming month. As in, it's penciled out and ready for ink. I borrowed a friend's tablet, so I might try inking digitally.
I've been popping in time to time though. I am deleting all my messages, since they are in the thousands, but if you need me for some reason, I'll respond now.
Good to be back. I'll strive to be more than a rock now.

Edit: Just noticed the age was wrong in my profile. It has been awhile, hasn't it?
Edit 2: Also noticed some people have watched and fav'd despite my absence. Much appreciated! Hopefully there will be more to see soon.

Summer Break
Posted 17 years agoActually, I've been on summer break for awhile now, but after a year of work I collapsed as far as responsability is concerned and started playing all the video games I've missed while at school. I never did get a chance to play Final Fantasy XII, so that's been this week's agenda. Anyway, I'll probably get back to drawing soon. After all, that's what responsible artists do. I'm gonna suck the next time I take out a pencil, but oh well. This break was much needed.
I am posting this at 9:30 in the morning
Posted 17 years agoI haven't slept all night, but I'm done. Sure, little clean up here and there, but now all I have left is one exam. One exam does not mean working 10+ hours a day though, so I can breath now.
Anyway, I haven't eaten all night so I'm eating a sandwich and going to bed. You should thank my stomach. I wouldn't be posting this if I wasn't for it.

Posted 17 years agoNote title. Needless to say, I don't have to time to go on FA or talk to anyone online. I am going to sleep after I post this. I may be like this for about a week. Reason being, end of the school year. Gotta cram a bunch of projects. See you guys when I get back.
Got Clever Marketing?
Posted 17 years agoEver notice how the "got milk?" parodies have not only reemerged, but have expanded to include every noun imaginable? WHEN WILL IT END??! I think the breaking point for me was when I saw a shirt that asked "Got Falconry?" That's not even catchy. It's just not amusing to parody something that has been parodied by everyone else already. In my opinion it was never that amusing in the first place, but that's me.
I looked up "got milk" on Wikipedia. The first ad was aired in October 1993. That's about 15 years, and people still think it's fucking clever to reference it.
This has been more overdone than people making fun of Paris Hilton (save that rant for another day, we'll see). If any of you have a "Got Furry?" shirt, I will beat you.

I expected GTA4 to get attacked for something sooner or later. What I love is how the sires seems to be the only one that people ever care about. I also think it's funny that you can kill cops, steal cars, and mow down pedestrians and people are complaining about being able to drink and drive in the game.

If it esists, there is a broadway musical about it.
Posted 17 years agoI just found out today they are making a Spiderman broadway musical. Fucking Spiderman. Five years ago, my friend and I wrote a script where characters were watching a Batman musical, making a joke about how they have a Broadway musical about everything. The joke worked at the time because it seemed like such a ridiculous exaggeration that it would never happen.
"The character breakdowns provide some insight to plot points as the character Arachne ("female, 20-35 years old, any ethnicity") is described as "a beautiful, boastful young woman turned into a spider for her hubris and lack of respect for the gods. She subsequently appears to Peter Parker and the audience as in turn a powerful spider-woman who comes from another time to inspire Peter; an otherworldly lover; a bride; a terrifying (and sexy) dark goddess of vengeance; a dance partner in a charged and violent spiders dance of death; and, finally, a lonely, fragile young woman." Casting is seeking a "strong Celtic, Balkan style, e.g., Sinead O'Connor," noting, "outside the box ideas are welcomed. Could be someone from the music industry.""

My sister is in show business. A friend of hers wrote a musical script about comic superheroes rejected because they didn't think an audience would like it. I guess what they meant was that people don't like anything that isn't attached to a multi-million dollar franchise.
It doesn't end there either. OHHHH no. They are also making a Shrek Broadway Musical too. A Shrek Butt Fucking Musical. I was tired of Shrek when I saw Shrek cereal, and I considered buying a gun when I found out about "Shrek The Halls". I suppose Shrek 5 just isn't enough. They are making a fucking musical.
From the official site:
This all-new production is based on Shrek's adventures in the classic William Steig book and Oscar-winning film. Joining Shrek on his journey from the swamp to the stage will be his wisecracking sidekick Donkey, Princess Fiona, Lord Farquaad and a chorus of everybody's favorite fairytale creatures. With more layers than ever and a completely original new score, SHREK THE MUSICAL proves that there's more to the story than meets the ears.
...You know what I would really like to see adapted? Originality. There was a time when that worked. There was a time when the best-selling musicals were seen because they were good, not because they were adapted from a popular franchise. It looks like Broadway is copying more than just Hollywood's stories now.

They Hunger Movie
Posted 17 years agoHere's a short movie I was in last year. This was for a contest at Planet Half-life (won first place, actually). It's been almost a year and they only have a little over 2000 views. Therefore, I feel I should advertise it a little. Sure, I'm biased, but watching it again now, I think it turned out pretty damn good.
In case you're wondering, I'm the zombie that gets stabbed with an umbrella and shot in the face.

Posted 17 years agoThe weather can get so annoying here. It was in the 70s until Saturday, where it dropped to the 40s and started raining. I'm glad it's raining, since we need it, but this cold is killing me. You get used to warm weather, so when it drops like this you feel awful.
Spring is a total tease here.

Oh yea... I forgot.
Posted 17 years agoYou know how I haven't shown my face in over a week? Well, uh, spring brake. Sorry I forgot to post. By the time I realized it, I was already on my way to Orlando. Oh, and Orlando was great. Maybe some pics if I get time to upload them.
Here's the new heads up: I'm probably going to limit my time at this site, since it distracts me. I have a lot of work I have to do these next few months. Crunch time, ya know? So that'll explain it- this time beforehand. Peace!

Posted 17 years agoI have somehow ended up with both of my computers eating the shit today. I fucked up my windows install trying to optimize it and getting too clicky. I admit, my fault. Also, the power cable for my Powerbook broke.
I am so glad I learned how to use Linux.
I'm getting a windows rip to fix my install there, and I squeezed my Powerbook cable, and it seemed to fix it for now. Lets see how long that lasts.
Anyway, there goes my day. Wish me luck!

You know the feeling when you realize you're not wearing pan
Posted 17 years agoMy cellphone broke. One day into it, and it's already old.
Word of advice: Don't take your cellphone out of your pocket when you're standing by a railing. You never know when it's going to get caught on the side of your pocket and <i>slingshot into a wall and fall two stories down onto a tile floor.</i> The thing that pisses me off is that nobody saw it. I could have at least made a show out of it. It would have been great. Not worth giving a cellphone up great, but I'd have a nice inside joke. Forget it.
In the past month I have lost my 20gig iriver, and I broke my phone. I feel naked. That pick up the phone and call Domino's instinct only makes it worse. Oh well.
On the plus side, it snowed an inch, so I didn't have to go to class today.
And I notice there is still a cock on the FA banner.
I'm going to play Pokemon.
Then I am going to bed.

Cloverfield
Posted 18 years agoI saw Cloverfield. Not to give anything away, but this is a movie that should be seen with a group. Reason being is that I found that everyone seems to have different opinions about it, regarding things both the filmakers and the characters made. My friends and I had a fun discussion afterwords.
Personally, I liked it. I can understand where it's not perfect, but that's not going to stop me from enjoying it.
If anyone else saw it, I'd like to hear what you think.

Macbook Air
Posted 18 years agoI'm sure everyone has already read about the Macbook Air. It's Apple. Their products are everywhere. Anyway, here's my opinion.
I think it's shit. Let me say it this way. This computer is supposed to be a portable. I'm writing this on a regular-sized aluminum Mac. This aluminum Mac is already warping, depending on the temperature and humidity. The case is fine, a bowed screen cases the latches to open when my computer is in its case, kicking it out of sleep mode and wasting battery. If my thicker, meatier computer is doing this, I can't imagine what a much thinner computer would do. Folks, the aluminum finish is there because it makes the computers look sleek. That doesn't mean it's a good material to make a laptop out of. Case in point: I have a friend who has to hold his power chord in with a rubber band because his computer took a fall and dented. The inconsistent power screwed his battery up pretty good too.
In comparison, I have an IBM from a while back that has flown across the room and landed open, face down on the ground. It was made of plastic so the screw covers snapped back on. I turned it on hearing scratching from the cd-drive. I hit the emergency latch on the side, popped the cd back in, and it was as good as new. This was back when laptops were made with the understanding that they might take a fall because they are portable. Judging from it's younger cousins and the materials it uses, the Macbook Air does not seem like it can take the damage a portable computer should be able to take. Sure, you can always blame people for dropping their computers, but that doesn't mean that accidents don't happen. Of course, I can be proven wrong. The iphone did, so maybe the Macbook Air can do it too.
My second gripe is that you're paying that price for a computer that will have to be a secondary one. With no optical drive, you have to install programs from another one or buy a drive separately. Apple makes us spend more money and we love them for it. Actually, it's not that we need a drive anyway. After all, we should be buying everything we need off of itunes. Otherwise it's just not worth it. Who are The Beatles? Never heard of them, but since they're not on itunes, they're probably not that good of a band, anyway.
In conclusion, I'm going to say that some people actually will need a computer like the Macbook Air. People who do powerpoint presentations, etc. for businesses would need something thin and presentable without any extra baggage. The Macbook Air is a perfect purchase for these people, and I see no other computer that would do a better job. These people will account for about 9% of Apple's customers. The people Apple will make money off of are the trendy motherfuckers who think a think computer means a good one, and will spend $1800 on a computer that will no doubt booster their social life. The people that have a BMW in college. That is why I'm being a cynical ass in this review.
-That and I haven't eaten yet today because of fucking laundry. Fuck pay laundry machines. And fuck the broken change dispenser that made my life a living hell today. 15 minutes became 2 hours. It's bullshit.
Peace!
