Dammit Japan!
Posted 18 years agoWell, I just watched Battle Royale. Let me just say the plot outline on IMDB sums it up very well:
"In future Japan, the government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act."
I think I know why it's falsely rumored to be banned in the US. Holy shit.
In a more serious note, it was really well done. I imagine the underlying message is more powerful in Japan (my guess is it's criticizing discipline in Japanese classrooms, but since I don't know shit about Japan, it's just a guess), but it was still a very powerful movie. When I first heard about it, I thought it would be kind of funny, but the movie kicked my ass. It did an incredible job portraying how friends would turn against each other, which is the thing that . Part of me actually does wish I didn't see it, since it did kind of disturb me.
If you think you can stomach it, I'd recommend it.

Back to kick some serious butt
Posted 18 years agoYou read right. I'm back at school, and I'm going to kick some serious butt.
Anyway, I came back to a dorm room with no water pressure. Essentially, I can drink faster than my facet can fill my cups now. I believe this is the logical explanation. Figures. Several days of rain, and still on the verge of firey death with mucho potatoes. Oh, my sink is still leaking enough to wake me from my ever-so dramatic slumber too. Oh well, can't be perfect now, can we?
Just noticed, I haven't made an excuse yet as to why I haven't posted anything in months. My favourite part. Basically it started with me getting a fuck load of hours at work. Much needed money, but less drawing time. You know how it goes. Second, I got Pokemon Pearl for Christmas. That pretty much eliminated the rest of my time. Generally though, when both my brother and I are home, I don't really work much. It's good that we get along, but as a result I don't draw a lot since I don't get to see him too often. He got Pokemon Diamond. Chaos ensued. I think the death rate is now at twelve, though it depends on what counts as kills or accidental trippings.
Let's see if I draw something. Chao!

Brownie:The lying sack of shit!
Posted 18 years agoYou know how I was talking about being more consistant over break? Well, first I got pummeled'd with work. Need the money, so that's good. Second.... I got Pokemon Pearl for Christmas. I know I'm 21 and I should get over the damn game but... damn. I love Pokemon. It's just a solid-ass game.
Here's a shocker. First, my mom got a Nintendo DS for Christmas and loved it. Didn't see that coming, nor did I expect to see her obsessively playing it every day. She got Brain Age. She's obsessed with it. It's even freakier that my sister (think popular blond cheerleader type who finds my geekiness embarrassing, we can't spend more than two days together without fighting) was the one that got it for her. Oh snap!
Second, my dad is trying to steal my Wii. This is the jock dad that complains about video games whenever he sees them, and how my brother and I should play sports. Well, Christmas night, my dad and my friends' dads were all huddled around the tv playing Wii Bowling. They were late for desert because they didn't want to stop playing. Anyway, he's going on a business trip and he wants to take my Wii. Don't think that's going to happen, but that won't stop him from trying. In a way I just find this a moment of victory, as I have finally convinced him that video games are a legitimate source of entertainment.
So there you have it. Nintendo has done the impossible. It has made my parents and my sister play video games. This means the US and Russia are about to launch their missiles, terrorists will bomb the rest, the world is going to explode, and they'll all live happily ever after, the end. Have some Oreos.

"No boot device detected: system Halted"
Posted 18 years agoWhile I was out today, my mom called me, telling me she was having some trouble starting her computer. I get home and see the following message: "No boot device detected: system Halted." Nice.
Well, I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow...
I'm just hoping it's not a hardware problem, something tells me it will be. Well, I think I know what to do, but if anyone has ever had this problem, tell me what you did.

Responsability. Ain't it a bitch? Also, Merry Christmas yo
Posted 18 years agoI got home from break last Friday (Saturday, around 1AM if you want to be a technical moron).
I'm going to be honest. I sat my ass down and played freakin video games. I haven't been online, and I haven't been drawing that much.
Meanwhile, I also got back to working at good old summer/winter job Quiznos. This leads to another problem though. My friend has been off the schedule this week. He's the only person who has worked there longer than me (I've been there 4 years on and off), and he's arguably the best employee there. Apparently the owner isn't happy that he can't work on Saturday nights because he goes to church, so he wants to fire him (can't prove it, but since that's the only thing that he ever does that pisses the owner off, you can connect the dots). People sicken me. To be honest, the only reason I'm still at that place is because I love the people I work with. Also because it's hard to get a job when you're only in town for a month, but work is usually really fun because of the people I work with. The people that run it, however, are ridiculous.
As a side note, I've been wishing a Merry Christmas to customers because I hate the PC crowd. The fact that everyone I've said it to left in high spirits really demonstrates how retarded the whole censorship of holidays is. Especially considering how everyone is always saying, "Happy Holidays! I include everyone in my greeting because it makes me open-minded" while the Muzak in the background plays a song explicitly about the birth of Christ.
Moving on, since I haven't been on in days, there's a ton of stuff I would have to go through. I don't like it, but I really don't have time to read everyone's comments and such. However, if I missed something, let me know. If I get a note, I'll definitely read it.

In case anyone has never seen this: (youtube journal)

Everyone needs to see this. I'm not saying that for the message, per say, but because of how it's already bad, and it's dated. I kinda miss old rap like that. Especially when it's about software piracy. Oh, the comments compliment it with an absolutely irrelevant racial/AIDS fight you'd expect to find on any page on Youtube.
And here's a page with a Japanese sauna prank.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en2S5lheimc
I love how Japanese pranks always have that extra touch (e.g. not just a sled- a rocket sled). I can only imagine what would happen if someone tried to do this in America. Assuming it's real, of course.
I should have been in bed hours ago. I think my sleep schedule is officially fucked. Good thing my winter break starts after my 2:00 class on Friday.

Persepholis
Posted 18 years agoI don't know how I missed this. They made Persepholis into an animated film? And it actually looks like it's going to be good? Hell frickin' yea! I thought the story was amazing when I read it as a graphic novel. I always thought to myself about how it would be as an animated movie, but figured nobody would have the balls to do something like this outside Japan, as is usually the case. But they did. And the author helped direct it. Hell yes. I can't wait for it to come out in this country. I just have to pray the English dub won't suck, since that's probably what will be playing in theaters.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808417/
Oh, by the way. The past two days I've been on at night. It's cause I can't sleep. I can't say how long this will go on.

You might have noticed my absense...
Posted 18 years agoI've been gone. I'm very busy with school related things right now, so don't expect to see me much. I will be back. I can't say exactly when though. Sorry to leave you guys hanging, but I've got priorities right now. I usually check the forums first, since I'm more active there (no art to post right now, so I'm all social for the moment).
I'm pressured to read what everyone's been up to. I really do want to, but considering how much submissions and journals people have up right now, I'm probably going to just delete them all. Send me a note if you need me for some reason, and I'll get back to you the next time I get on.

In other news...
Posted 18 years agoWell, I decided to check up on CNN today in case they had any updates on the end of the world. Two articles sort of stuck out to me.
First one in a good way: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/afric.....tes/index.html
I'm wondering what the North Koreans thought when they saw an American chopper coming. I'm probably not really qualified to speak about what America should be doing, but I'd like to think helping people should be on that list. Especially if it's citizens of one of the most notorious enemies of the US. The fact that North Korea and the US fucking hate each other and our navy still helped some of them being attacked by pirates anyway is a good thing in my opinion. Good deeds are what heal wounds, and while it would take far more than this to even begin to solve anything, it's still refreshing to see it happen. For once the military actually does something that really does reflect the "Christin ideals" our leaders pretend to have. Note: I don't care if you believe in God or not, the idea of loving everyone despite what they might have done to you is incredibly applicable to the world we live in. I still think love can conquer hate if people had the courage to let go of pride and stubbornness once and awhile. Also fighting pirates along the sea just sounds so epic.
Second one in an annoying way: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.co.....federate-flag/
What the fuck is this? I question: 1. Who gives a shit? 2. Do you know what that flag even means? 3. If he can shoot a man in the face and get away with it, what damage would this ever do? 4. Drop the racial hate complex (not a question, shut up). Seriously, do you think the pavement is black because it symbolizes black people being stepped On? Some people need to grow up and realize that the race card only encourages racism.
I'm no redneck, but I can still see a huge difference between a flag that stood for states that seceded from the Union and a cross burning.
I hereby declare that the governor of Mississippi is racist because he hangs a flag with the Confederate flag on it in his office.

So Dumbledore is gay...
Posted 18 years agoWell, I guess I'll have to burn the books and do my best not to remember Harry Potter exists. Thanks, J.K. Rowling.
See, I can take language, angsty love and people being killed, but finding out that a character is gay means that the book is now evil.
Excuse me while I protest and shield the children from this material.

Just a little heads up...
Posted 18 years agoI'm sorry to leave you guys hanging. I haven't had time to do much with this site lately. However, I'm not dead and I do plan to get back into the groove when I get the time. Just a heads up.
I do check up and lurk on journals and such though. Not significant, but I hope it'll be worth something at least. If you need anything, send a PM. I'll respond.

Before there was CGI
Posted 18 years agoI rant about this a lot, but I have to do it again. CGI is overused. Really, I think a lot of times things are much more convincing with other methods. Case in point, and why I'm here:
Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I just watched the special edition in a movie theater. The clearest you can ever watch it. This was before CGI and it looked incredible. Let me give some specific examples.
-probably spoilers-
The thing that really wowed me at first was the clouds. I'm going out on the limb here and saying the clouds that shrouded the alien ships in this movie looked better than the ones in Independence Day - a movie made about 20 years later (which I haven't seen in about a year, so maybe I'll change my mind). I don't know what they did specifically to make them look like that, but wow. Those man-made clouds actually looked real.
The alien ships themselves looked fantastic. I think the alien ships in the sky looked like moving stars-just like they were supposed to. I admit, the part with the giant mothership emerges behind Devil's Tower looked unconvincing to me, but aside from that they looked pretty damn real.
Now the big part. The aliens. The way they shot them made them look damn convincing. This is the part that really impressed me. The light around them was over saturated, but since it came out of the mothership it made perfect sense. I think the over-saturation is one of the things that makes the scene work. I'm thinking about how cheezy the scene might have been without it. It probably would have been like Mars Attacks, except trying to be serious. Anyway, despite the over-saturation, you are still able to make out what the aliens look like. The close did look like an animatronic, but in the end I'm happy with it. It gave the good close up of the alien communicating. It was all I needed. The shots gave you just enough to see aliens, but not too much. Perfect.
I guess the reason for why I really liked this scene was because of what happens a lot today. Part of me believes if this was shot today, they would have just used CGI, give you cool aliens, and call it a day. They wouldn't have made the effort to shoot this scene creatively because they wouldn't have had to. In the end, this really works better. Because they shot it creatively, it looks far better than it ever could, regardless of what the technology of today can do.
I'm sure it also helps when you have very elite cinematographers working with you and you happen to be Stephen Spielberg. Regardless of whether or not some people feel Spielberg is overrated, he is a household name for a reason.
I know, I might just be talking out of my ass. This probably sounds pretentious as hell, so feel free to call me out on things. However, that's my impression. I feel that if I get wowed by special effects from the 70's, I should say something. Oh, and this is the first time I ever saw the whole movie. The India scene looked familiar, but that's it.

The year is 2005....
Posted 18 years agoI found a little time today to have fun for once. I'll regret it later, I'll bet but I'll cherish the moment for now.
In the year 2005: I finally saw the original Transformers movie. In a theater, too. I had no idea there was language in it, so that kinda caught me off guard. Anyway, the first 15 minutes it was cheezy as hell, but after I got used to that I became a kid again and fell in love with it. Considering it's animated, and is essentially 80 minutes of 80's hard rock and stuff blowing up, how could I not? I actually didn't watch transformers as a kid, but I think I'm going to have to find some episodes now. I had a friend in high school who had the entire series on Betamax. I think that would be the ultimate way to watch it. Anyway, there you go.
And in July 2007: I also got Sin and Punishment on the Wii. I don't have time for games, but I stupidly bought it anyway. The only reason I'm not playing it now is because I'm too tired to hit anything. Really, I think if people didn't shrug this off as an old N64 game, this game could be a system seller. It's that good. It's a crime that this game wasn't released in the US back in 2000. I think a game like this would have done wonders for the N64 had it not been so late in its life cycle. If you have a Wii, buy this game. It's $12. Now I just have to find a way to get work done instead of playing this game. It's freakin crack, dude.
I also found out the chancellor of my school did a voice in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Who'da thunk it? Guess this means I'll have to play it again and listen for him. He's Claude Maginot on (I think) K-chat, for the curious.
Well, that's what I've been up to. So you guys wanna play some soccer?

School
Posted 18 years agoOkay. Things are really busy with school, so I'm afraid I won't be able to get on much. I do have some stuff I'm working on that might be up soon, but again, we'll see. I would like to try to show up at least once a week though. Anyway, sorry about that guys.
You know how I said I'd try to be on every day?
Posted 18 years agoI said I'd try to get on a little each day. I was actually jinxing myself, you see. My goal was to get the internet at school messed up. I succeeded.
Seriously, that's what happened. The people responsible claimed it was due to illegal p2p file sharing. I claimed it was bullshit. Looks like someone forgot to do their job. I can understand mistakes. I just wish people would be honest about them.
Anyway, school is good so far. The RAs somehow got a hold of a bunch of movie posters, so now there is one of these hanging in every bathroom. Guess you've got to find something to do when you get to school a week early.
Anyway, apologies for my notbeinghereness. Hopefully next time this happens, it'll be something in my control.

Posted 18 years agoSo, yes, as you may or may not have figured out by now, I'm pretty busy with school. However, I'll try to make an effort to come here more. The past few days I've been meeting the locals. I'll try to find time to sign on a little bit each day here on though.
Moving
Posted 18 years agoSorry I've been sorta gone the last few days. I'm moving back to school. Things is, once I get there, I'm not sure how much time I'll have to come to this site. I'll update on this later. Till then, cheerio!
Oh and about my previous problem. I think it might be food related, as strange as it sounds. Guess I go crazy when I don't eat right or something. Anyway, it seems to be better now. *knocks on wood*

Posted 18 years agoThis might be kind of weird, but... My feet. All day today. I keep seeing them out of the corner of my eye and it bugs the living shit out of me. I actually messed up on someone's sandwich at work today because I was distracted by my feet. Even now. I'm sitting. I see my knees and my feet. I had to put a blanket over them, even though it's about 80 something out right now and humid. I can't focus on anything because of them.
This is a problem I used to have a few years ago, but it was never so bad that it got in the way of productivity. My feet would bug me for about a half an hour, then I'd forget that they're there and get on with whatever they're doing. Now it's something that's constant. It's gotten to the point where I have to hide them when I'm working, and I have to look up when I'm walking. It's driving me freaking insane. I can't concentrate on anything anymore.
I'm wondering, is this a problem like what anyone else has ever faced? I really don't know what to do, this shit is driving me crazy. I'm hoping it's just something that just happened today, and won't continue. Maybe I didn't sleep well or something. Hopefully I'll be able to get on with my life tomorrow. Stupid feet.

Posted 18 years agoSorry I haven't been too active lately. I've been working a lot lately. Then there was the whole drama on the forums...
Anyway, I hope I'll have more time to catch up with you guys later. Sorry I've been quiet lately.

Sheik Yerbouti
Posted 18 years agoI got Sheik Yerbouti by Frank Zappa a few days ago, and it's been on loop since. One thing I love about Zappa is the character in the lyrics. There's some really funny yet intelligent humor in it. And musically, it's absolutely brilliant.
The first time I was exposed to Zappa was when we watched Baby Snakes in animation class. Part of what we watched was this clip plays Baby Snakes in the background (on Sheik Yerbouti)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sZc9pGqyF
There's lots of instruments you just don't hear clearly on youtube, notably the badass piano at the end, so it's hardly doing the song justice. However, if you want to see some absolutely crazy animation, you'll enjoy this clip. The animator's name is Bruce Bickford. I'd recommend looking up more of his stuff on youtube. He's pretty amazing.
Anyway, this is the second album I've gotten by Frank Zappa. The other one I have is Joe's Garage. I definitely need moar. If any Zappa fans read this and have recommendations, I'll hear them.

Requests
Posted 18 years agoJust a heads up, I'm not taking requests anymore. Too busy. However, the people who have already asked will get something, though it may or may not be more than line art. I apologize. Some big stuff happened, not to mention I'm working a lot now.
Okay, this is why meds suck
Posted 18 years agoI take medication for my ADHD. It's no big deal normally. I take it because it helps. Anyway, despite what society might tell you otherwise, it IS a drug. Because it's a drug, there's withdrawal. Usually it's not so bad, and I can go on without it. Well, I've been shopping and working on projects for my dad today. I didn't need my medication so I didn't take it. My brother came home from his math camp today. I haven't seen him in three months. I just don't want to talk to him. I don't want to talk to anyone. It's normal for me to be a little cranky and irritable when I don't take my medicine, but this just fucking sucks. It almost hurts my brain to hear voices.
Anyway, I'm taking my pill now. Seeing my brother is worth it as far as I'm concerned, especially since he goes to college in 6 days. Also, due to him being home, I might be a little less active on this site. Hope that's okay with everyone.

Posted 18 years agoAvi done!
Ok, seem to have misplaced my list of requests, so let me go over what I know:
Next I'm finishing up something for VGM22,
After that, I have a request from TheGru
I also have a lil art trade with FreeNatureArts
If I missed anyone, I appoligize. Let me know and I'll get back to you.
Edit: I realize my avi's hands are tiny. I'll have to fix that later too.

Posted 18 years agoEdit: I'm finally working on an avatar. Just a heads up.

Every week a new up-and-coming artist would get a spotlight, helping them get known better in the art community
The thing is the admins behind on alot things already and this cannot be done without much help, so here's my plan:
Spread the word to everyone you know about "Artist of the Week", make journals and do as much as you can to help. That way this idea can come to fruitation much faster if it has the support of people of FA
FurAffinity needs change and for the better, if you care about this place and the artists in it then spread the word!
....so I'm spreading the word. Yay? Nay? I'd personally be interested in something like that.
