Never thought you'd hear...
General | Posted 16 years agoBwahahahaaaaa! Words you never thought you'd hear on the TV news...
"Police were later able to return the jars of marijuana to their rightful owner."
I got up to get my mate a drink of water and on my way back into the bedroom, as I pass the TV, I hear that.
Seems somebody jacked someone else's prescription pot.
Certainly caused a double-take...

Cats Piano...
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, neuromanson linked me to a music video made from the animation of a short film called The Cat Piano. The music video was nice, but the animation was stunning! I'd never seen The Cat Piano and it was...wow. Poetry and music and animation and cats and...just...wow.
So, on the off chance that one of you has somehow missed The Cat Piano...

Enjoy!

Another game delay...or maybe just a change...
General | Posted 16 years agoGrrrrrr. Sorry about this, but my stick eraser has vanished. For those who don't know, a stick eraser is pretty much the mechanical pencil equivalent of an eraser. More importantly, it allows me to make very fine erasures without messing up the rest of the drawing. Without it, I cannot make corrections to my sketches without obliterating large swatches of the drawing I want to keep. Even a kneaded eraser squeezed into a point can't get the precision I need. So all drawing is on hold until I can get a replacement. I might be able to do that tomorrow, depending on whether or not I can get off work early, but it may take me as long as Saturday. I'm sorry...
So, now here's the question: Would you rather a game delay until I can do art again, or would you prefer I continue the game in a text only format until such a time as I can draw for the game again?
Alternatively, I could just do really bad scribbles for the art...

General | Posted 16 years agoIf you do not logically think out the consequences of your actions, you should not be surprised when they come back and bite you in the ass. If you want to be treated like an adult, you have to show you can act like an adult consistently enough that everyone forgets about when you acted like a child. If someone is kind enough to pay for something for you to use, don't complain about how much they let you use it if you can't afford to pay for your own. If you break the rules, there are consequences, and screaming about it to the internet gets you nothing but pity.

Ack! Game delay...
General | Posted 16 years agoOkay, sorry about this. I was going to post for the game today but...
I run Ubuntu as my operating system. Last night, I decided to upgrade to 9.10
There is a HUGE bug in 9.10 where sometimes it does not recognize your network card drivers. I don't know how this managed to slip past development and into the upgrade, but...I have onboard network and for some reason, I had to fight all morning with my computer to get it to work. It's working now...but I had no time to fiddle with the game. I'll see if I can post later today or if all else fails, tomorrow. Sorry about that...

Taun Taun sleeping bag?
General | Posted 16 years agoOkay. Really now. I think this ranks right up there in the bad idea list with the Harry Potter toy Nimbus 2000 with real sound and vibration action...
A taun taun sleeping bag...okay, cute idea but...noooooo!

Why, WHY did they make the zipper a light saber? And...the pattern on the inside cloth...is that...intestines!?!
Cute and sick at the same time...

General | Posted 16 years agoOkay, so I love to cook. I mean LOVE to cook. All the time. I cook and I draw. That's pretty much what I'm good at. Okay, yeah, I do computers and I study tantra and I'm pretty decent at math, but cooking and drawing - cooking more then drawing - is my genius.
Geniuses still fuck up.
When making a lemon creme sauce base for a chicken pasta dish, it is imperative that you put corn starch in the lemon juice, not get the canisters confused and add baking powder.
Wow.
Last of my lemon juice too. Got the youngest cub running to get more so I can finish dinner...

Waahhhh! Hardware failure!
General | Posted 16 years agoSo. Had an interesting bit of hardware failure today. Thought it was something serious. I was amusingly wrong.
I've been playing around with my desktop for a bit, experimenting with Compiz and Emerald. For those who don't know, it's eyecandy software for the Linux desktop. It makes the pretty on your computer.
Anyways, as I'm futzing around with "the cube" settings, my screen freezes up and my computer refuses to respond in any way. Thinking maybe Compiz doesn't like XFCE much, I do a hard reboot. About half way through the boot, my screen blanks.
Then I smell ozone.
NEVER a good thing with computers.
So I shut things down and pull it appart. Turns out the screws that hold the fan on my video card had broken, and the fan had fallen off. VGU was overheating. One quick $20 trip to the computer store provided me with a fits-everything VGU heatsink kit that is WAY overpowered for my old Nvidia card and I'm back in business. Still, a scary moment...

Kitty see, kitty do...
General | Posted 16 years agoWow. So I'm sleeping in a bit this morning because I stayed up too late last night, when the wife comes in and wakes me up to tell me, she just caught my cat peeing in the toilet.
I know you can train house cats to use the toilet by using a special litter box until they're used to using the toilet, then taking the litter box away, but this is the first time I've heard of a cat being toilet trained by example.
He's always been a quirky cat and liked to watch us use the toilet, but most cats are like that. They're just curious. But maybe it's not just curiosity. Maybe they're trying to learn from us, so that one day they can take over! All they need now are thumbs...
viva la cat revolution!
Seriously though, my cat pees in the toilet, and learned to do so without any training. I find that way more amusing perhaps then I should. Then again, I didn't get to sleep in after all. maybe I've just not had enough sleep...

WTF eraser?
General | Posted 16 years agoWARNING! INCOMING RANT!
Okay, WTF Staedtler? For those not aware of it, Staedtler is a company that produces what i thought was very nice artistic quality art supplies. Recently, I lost my eraser stick, which is, effectively, to an eraser what a mechanical pencil is to a pencil. It's a long, narrow eraser in a plastic shell. Very useful for sketchwork. So I go to Michaels to pick up a few things, including a new eraser stick, and I get a Staedtler. Normally I don't buy brand name, but it's all they had. So I start a sketch today and realize I've messed up, I go to erase and what happens? The brand-name eraser stick with brand-name ink along the length of the brand-name eraser insert brand-name smudges onto my drawing paper! Ink! Non-erasable ink! WHAT. THE. FUCK!?! Granted, this is a sketch, but I KNOW that Staedtler has been producing art supplies for longer then I've been using them. Who in corporate thought it was a good idea to mark their name on the side of a stick eraser, which doesn't even show inside the nice plastic shell around it, in an ink that comes off and permanently stains sketch paper??? Fortunately, a few minutes with a piece of junk paper stains THAT paper and removes the branding, but still! I'm just glad I was not doing something commercially on expensive paper. seriously!

I...am furry...
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, as I was laying in bed on faux fur blankets last night, in my bedroom decorated with furry paintings next to my lovely furry mate, while our two furry cubs slept in the next room over, I came to the realization that I am furry. For almost a decade, I have been drawing anthropomorphic art, playing on anthropomorphically themed MUSHs and MUCKs, visiting anthropomorphically themed message and image boards, I even spent a year or two posting to alt.lifestyle.fur. I've been to fur cons, furry gatherings and furmeets. I've attended and hosted anthropomorphically themed artjams, gone to as many FurBQs as I can and have even been mentioned on wikifur. I am currently as we speak hosting a furry themed dungeons and dragons game. All this time, I thought I was doing these things because I like anthropomorphic art, I enjoy being around fursuiters and my furry friends, and I like the feeling of acceptance the furry community gives me. But last night really brought it home. I really do all this because I'm furry! *sob* I've been furry all my life! Even as a child I fantasized about being an animal and some of my best friends were animals. I can't help it! I was born this way! *sob* Stop judging me! *sob*
Super Capers...
General | Posted 16 years agoOkay, I'm sure everyone who wanted to has seen Super Capers already, but on the off chance you have not seen it and for some god forsaken reason might want to - don't. I'm tempted to contact the studio that made the movie and attempt to sue them for the bandwidth I wasted pirating it...

Finally starting the game...
General | Posted 16 years agoWell, it's finally time to start the game. Sorry it took so long, there were some minor snafus with character sheets that I've gotten all worked out for the most part.
For those who have somehow managed to miss this information all the previous times I've posted it, here is what I'm going to be doing for quite a while.
After being exposed to RubyQuest, I thought it would be awesome to try something similar myself, only to actually draw instead of using MSpaint or whatever was used for RubyQuest. After much thought, I decided to go with the Dungeons and Dragons game system, not in the least because for some time now I've been playing with the idea of adapting furry species to races for D&D.
I am going to be posting Game Master interaction here on FA, along with a sketch for each bit of GM interaction. My players will be posting their roleplaying, interactions and actions in the form of replies to my posts. I will be handling all of the mechanics(dice rolls, etc) on my end and then let my players know what is going on.
For those who are not participating, you can still enjoy the story in the form of a series of illustrated narratives, which are all going to be linked webcomic style.
At the very least, it's going to be an interesting experiment!
My players and their characters are:
Na'Nfr played by Chitter
Marissa Hills played by Marissa
Jaedan S'Rall played by RogerDeFox
Mekie Stickyfingers played by Lock444
Vitanialinaise Sommermus played by Summercat

Almost ready...
General | Posted 16 years agoWell, almost ready to start the game. Sorry for the insane delays, as with most furries, it's like herding cats to get everyone to do what they need to on time.
Currently I'm waiting for the last bit of character information for Vit Sommermus, our cleric. I'll be posting her profile sketch later today when I have the time to clean it up.
Once I have her character sheet done, it's just a matter of making sure all my players are actually paying attention and then setting the scene for the game...

Another D&D update...
General | Posted 16 years agoHey, okay, update time:
Thank you all for the wonderful character concept submissions.
I have picked two of the many submissions that I think best fit with my other three players - lock444 is going to play our thief and summercat is going to play our cleric.
For those who were not picked - that does not necessarily mean you are out of the running. This is an experiment and the first leg of our journey is going to be a short one to test run the group, the system and my way of running things. I may decide to add more players or change some players out at the end of the trial run. Some of my players may be dissatisfied with the way I run things and not want to play anymore. Some of them may perish(I hope not though!).
After June 8th(I'm going to be attending Califur and don't want the con interrupting the game)I plan to post the game right here in my account on FA in the format of an illustration followed by text describing what is happening in the game. My players will respond via the feedback tools FA has provided, and I plan to link all the posts webcomic style, so that those who are not playing can follow the action if they wish to.
I'm sure nobody will complain if you want to post comments on how the campaign is going, as long as you're polite, so stay tuned!

DnD update (proper update)
General | Posted 16 years agoAlright, I think I need a proper update in my journal, not just a quick note, so here goes:
I am running an experiment here on FA, and the experiment is thus: How well can a DnD game be run on a messageboard? The game will be played out very slowly - probably about one round per day, because I plan to accompany each bit of GM interaction with a sketch. The series of sketches will then be linked together serially so that non-players can "read" the adventure like a story.
I am going to be using DnD 3.5 and have access to almost all resource books. I am going to be making custom furry races for all my players, and have a list of custom furry gods almost completed. I am going to be doing all the dice rolling on my end to keep things fair. Nobody(myself included) will be allowed to delay the game more then 48 hours without giving the game master(myself) advance notice.
Now that that's been said, here's where things stand:
I have 3 confirmed players:
a jackal SwordSage,
a leopard/tiger sorceress
a fox of undetermined class - probably paladin.
Anyways, I'm looking to recruit a few more players.
I am currently holding auditions for anyone who might want to play. Anyone who is interested should private message me a description of their character concept - name, gender, race, class. Everyone starts at level 2 to begin with. Since I will most likely receive more applications then I can handle players in a game, I will pick the those character concepts I think most fit with our current party. I would prefer players who have a little experiance, since it will be pretty difficult to sit down with them to work out character details, and if you delay the game longer then 48 hours, I will roleplay your character for you, with no promise it will survive the experiance.

Dnd update...
General | Posted 16 years agoOkay, so we lost our healer and gained a tank, possible a paladin(tank and healer! Yay!). All roles needed may be filled, but that doesn't mean I won't add a few more characters if they fit well with the party.
So far we have:
1 swordsage(melee striker)
1 sorceress(magic striker)
1 tank of some sort
Feel free to PM me your character ideas if you want to play!

Dungeons and Dragons experiment
General | Posted 17 years agoHey, dunno how much attention this will get here without any art, but I'll give it a shot and see how many respondents I get without drawing a "recruitment" poster.
I've recently been exposed to Ruby Quest and inspired, decided to try something myself similar.
I am going to be running a furry dungeons and dragons 3.5 campaign right here on Fur Affinity!
Anyways, I'm looking to recruit some players.
The game will be done via posts and replies to posts here on FA. Time played will be 24/7 more or less, but since everyone will be responding to my posts when they have the time, the game will run at a pretty slow pace. I plan to use this as an excuse to do a lot of drawing, as I plan to accompany every post with at least one piece of sketch art. I'll be drawing the action, scenery, pieces of treasure found by the party, NPC interactions, pretty much everything I can.
The races will be nonstandard, I'm pretty much working up custom races for anthropomorphic creatures of the players choices. If that sounds interesting, post a reply to this journal with your character idea - race/class concept and job you would fill for the party. So far we have a melee striker and a magic ranged/striker. We need a tank and a healer and possibly a scout, although if I like your concept, I could very well include you even if you don't precisely fit those rolls. Classes are pretty wide open, I have access to most of the books, so if there's something non-standard you want to play, and there's a book on it, let me know. If I have the book, you're good.
I would prefer players with a little experience being as I have very little experience GMing, and if you delay the game more then 48 hours without giving me a good excuse before hand, I will roleplay your character for you. No promises that this will not result in your characters' death, and eventual replacement in the party by someone who is willing to respond at least once every two days.
Anyways, that's pretty much it - anyone interested in assisting with this experiment?

Draw, damn you!
General | Posted 17 years agoWow. I post one thing, and then thanks to busy life, don't draw anything else and all but forget about FA, and I still get favs and watches? Wow. Okay, I need to get off my tail, find my sketchbook and actually DO something...
Long time no art...
General | Posted 18 years agoWow, so it's been a very long time since I last drew anything worth showing off. I've just been so busy what with getting married and other RL events that I havn't had the time. Fortunately, some local furry artists and myself have started doing artjams, so that's going to change!
