Continued work on my video game, and its development goals.
General | Posted 11 years agoSo far, the game looks really nice! The plot line is all finalized, the levels are steadily being polished to look more organic, and all the core mechanics have been implemented to a (mostly) functional degree. This game started out as a project for my Game Design class, but plans to continue developing through summer are still in the schedule. Within the next few weeks, I'm planning on making a few prototype bosses, sound effects for attacks + some ambient background music, and adding many more areas to explore so that the world doesn't feel like one long linear tunnel with only one specific path.
Once summer begins I'll be working so I may not be able to invest as much time into it, but the project won't be stopping! Current long term goals will be to add a save/load ability, small npc villages, and a much better inventory/item management system.
While the idea of releasing the game to steam sounds amazing, I know that I would need to restructure how players control their characters. Currently both players would need to use the same keyboard to play. I would definitely need to add an online multiplayer feature to have the game be appealing to a wide enough audience for this to be worthwhile to eventually publish.

A promising future for the game I'm developing!!
General | Posted 11 years agoSo I started developing a video game with a friend of mine several weeks ago, and between both of our work and excitement, I'm pleasently surprised at how fast the process is moving :3 The core navigational mechanics are basically done, and the combat system is close to it as well. The main challenge so far is writting the enemies' AI for attacking. The projectiles tend to stick to wherever they are emitted, and all the enemies can do is advance towards or away from the player. The most arduous compnent of the game is definitely the very fine tuning for the player's and enemies' attacks as not to overpower or nerf them. It's at the point where by changing one specific attack's recharge rate by seven tenths of a second, there is a noticable difference in how the gameplay dynamics and tactical options change. Our previous working name for it was Soulbound, but apparently there is a game already called that so we're thinking of something else :P
As the project continues, the possibility of creating a full release for Steam is becoming more and more plausable!!!! :D

Looking for a room for FC 2014
General | Posted 12 years agoA little late to the party, but I just got my class schedule all sorted out and I can make it to Further Confussion this year! I'm about to register for the con, but I'd like to be able to stay for more than just one day. If anyone has an extra slot in their room they need filled I'd love to know. I know I haven't been to the local meets as much as I'd like but it doesn't really help that I go to school about 500 miles from home :P
So if you got an extra space and want to save some money just lemme know in a note or reply to this! Hope to see ya'll there!

Happy New Years! + resolutions
General | Posted 12 years agoWell 2013 has been an awesome year :D I finished my skydiving license, have been getting great grades at one of the best universities in the nation, I'm halfway to my goal of completing an Ironman triathlon, AND I get a job doing what I love this past summer! I met all my goals I set for myself. Thank you to everyone here that's helped me in any way you have; you know who you are.
My resolutions for 2014:
-Finish 3/4 of an Iroman triathlon
-Buy my own parachute so I can stop renting them
-SKYDIVE MORE!
-Continue good grades
So what are everyone else's resolutions? :)

Would you like some free art?
General | Posted 12 years agoI'm looking to get some practice with 3D modeling for one of my Comp Sci classes, so if you have any reference
sheets that show both the front and side of your 'sona somewhat like this, I'll take a swing at it. Best case scenario, you get free art

Kickstarter announced for android/trading card game!
General | Posted 12 years agoI'm interning with Tatum Games, a new Android game company and they just launched the Kickstarter for our mobile AND trading card game, Heroes Vs. Villians! Here's a link:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects.....es-vs-villains
We're starting on the wire-frames to help better show how much this game has to offer, since the only thing to really show to consumers is the concept art so far. This kickstarter is a majority of our profit, and it'd mean a lot even if you just skim through the video and look at the concept art :)

Got my skydiving license! :D
General | Posted 12 years agoSo after almost a year of skydiving, I finally got my A license! :D Woohoo!!! Now that I'm licensed I can start jumping with others as well! If you want to jump with me or even come with me to do a tandem I'm game. Today I went and did my first 4 way jump with a few others at Skydive Elsinore and had a blast.
Now to start saving up for my own gear. Hopefully I can find someone local who's willing to part with an old rig for less than 3 grand. If you happen to know anyone with extra gear send em' my way. That, and I need to pick a direction to go with skydiving. I'm thinking of getting into freeflying or relative work but not sure...

Happy birthday to me!!!
General | Posted 12 years agoHuh. Guess this is my first FA journal. Not really sure what to say about this past year, but I've really enjoyed it.
Every day feels like I'm in a new prime. Well, except for the stitches I got today from splitting my foot open while surfing. Besides that, another year has gone by and things are just getting better and better in my life :)
I just finished up my first year at UCSC, and got a taste of the college lifestyle (by far the best 9 months of my life). I've met many awesome people along the way that have left impacts on me.
I've been eating healthier than ever and started competing in Olympic distance triathlons, and I'm preparing for the upcoming half-ironman.
I finally got a job that pays well and ACTUALLY IS ENJOYABLE, along with an internship for a mobile gaming company.
I started skydiving around this time last year and have enjoyed every minute of it. I've been able to come home to find everyone as friendly and welcoming as ever; some faces new and others old but all great people that I truly enjoy being with. Thank you everyone that has made an impact on me, and may the next year be even better.
