Jan, 20 2013
SAN ANTONIO - A scary situation for a family on the Northeast Side.
Just before 10 am Sunday morning Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies say someone tried to kick-in the front door at a home on Sunlit Trail. We're told the mom called 911 and the son fired one shot through the door.
The suspect then took off after firing his gun.
No one was hurt and deputies are still looking for the suspect.

---San Antonio Theator
9:25 p.m. on Sunday night, December 16
Jesus Manuel Garcia, age 19, entered the China Garden restaurant across the mall from the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 theater complex in San Antonio, Texas, looking for his ex-girlfriend. Angered that she had just broken up with him, he sent her a text message saying that he planned to go to the restaurant where she worked and “shoot somebody.”
Before she could warn patrons at the restaurant Garcia entered and started shooting. One bullet slightly wounded one patron while others scattered out the exit doors and headed for the safety of the theater lobby across the mall. Garcia chased them and continued shooting.
This got the attention of an armed off-duty law-enforcement officer who was working at the theater, Bexar County sheriff’s Sgt. Lisa Castellano, who chased Garcia to the back of the theater where he ducked into the men’s room. When he emerged, Castellano shot him four times which immediately and effectively ended the threat. Garcia was handcuffed with the help of another off-duty officer and taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition. He was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and his bail was set at $1 million.

While reports of Tuesday's shooting at the Clackamas Town Center Mall in Oregon, dominated the national media, until Friday's horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, one very important detail has been repeatedly (and intentionally) left out of the MSM's coverage.
The shooter, Jacob Tyler Roberts, was confronted with an armed citizen, at which time he ran away and shot himself. By the time police arrived on the scene, Roberts was already dead

---Mother shoots intruder
JANUARY 6, 2013
A home invasion in Georgia last week ended with the hapless intruder getting shot five times in the face by a frightened mother holed up in the closet with her 9-year-old twins.
The harrowing incident began Friday afternoon when an unexpected visitor began knocking at the door of a residence in Loganville, Ga., about 30 miles east of Atlanta. The woman who lived in the house didn’t answer, and when the man began furiously pressing the doorbell, she called her husband, who called 911. The woman, whose name authorities are withholding, then got a .38-caliber revolver she kept in the house and gathered her young twins and hid with them in a closet inside the house, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Seconds later, the man at the door, later identified by police as Paul Ali Slater, broke into the house with a crowbar and began ransacking the house.
Slater soon came upon the upstairs closet where the three were hiding and opened the doors, only to immediately be shot five times in the face and neck by the woman.
“He opens the closet door and finds himself staring down the barrel of a .38 revolver,” Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“The guy’s face down, crying,” Chapman added. “The woman told him to stay down or she’d shoot again.”he wounded intruder stumbled out of the house, attempting to flee in his car, but crashed into a nearby wooded area and collapsed in a neighbor’s driveway as he attempted to exit the car.
The woman, meanwhile, fled to a neighbor’s home with her children. The three escaped unharmed.
Police arrived soon after and Slater, who is reportedly clinging to life, was arrested at the scene.
The incident is a timely example for gun-advocates claiming that lawfully carrying a weapon can actually increase public safety.

---Homeowner confronts suspected burglar with shotgun
Paul Cavazos said he’d been waiting for the moment for a long time -- and on Saturday, when he saw the man who he thinks burglarized his home, he brought his shotgun with him.
Cavazos’ security camera above his front door captured the confrontation.
In the video, you can see a man carrying a flat-screen television walk into the frame. Cavazos comes out his front door, shotgun leveled at the man he accused of burglary.
He forces him to the ground, and keeps him there until the police get there and arrest him.
“It was rough there for a while because we were constantly looking over our shoulders,” said Heidi Uriostegui, Cavazos’ girlfriend who lives with him.
Cavazos said the man had burglarized several other homes in the area, as well.

---Madera pharmacy shootout: Fresno gunman dead, store owner’s mother wounded
Wednesday, Jan. 09, 2013
A Fresno man killed Tuesday evening after a shootout in a Madera pharmacy was sought earlier this year in a home invasion in which an 82-year-old woman was robbed and bound.
Aquilla Bailey, 31, staggered away from the Almond Avenue Pharmacy with at least one gunshot wound and died a short time later, according to detective Robert Salas of the Madera Police Department.
The pharmacy is in a building that's part of a medical offices complex at the southeast corner of Almond and Emily Way, just three blocks east of Madera Community Hospital.
Police say Bailey and another person stormed into the pharmacy about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and one began to shoot at the pharmacy owner and his mother.
The pharmacy owner, Bryan Lee, 40, returned fire. Hit in the exchange were Bailey and Lee's 68-year-old mother, who was wounded in the leg. She was later released from Madera Community. Bailey was found in the back of a building just west of the pharmacy and died after he was taken to the hospital.

---Bystander Fired Deadly Shot, Not Officer
unknone date
There were two big developments Monday in the case of a motorist who was shot and killed along Greenwell Springs Road Friday after a fight with a police officer. Investigators say an autopsy shows the deadly bullet was fired by a bystander, not the officer. Police also announced that no charges would be filed in the case, either against the police officer involved or the bystander who fired the fatal shot into the head of George Temple.
East Baton Rouge Sheriff's spokesman Greg Phares says Officer Brian Harrision was escorting a funeral procession Friday when he pulled Temple over and wrote him a ticket for breaking into the procession. According to Phares, that's when Temple attacked Harrison. Police say Perry Stevens was walking outside of the Auto Zone on Greenwell Springs Road when he heard Harrison yelling for help. Harrison was reportedly on his back with Temple on top of him. That's when Stevens went to his car and grabbed his .45 caliber pistol.
According to Col. Greg Phares, "[Mr. Stevens] orders Mr. Temple to stop and get off the officer. The verbal commands are ignored and Mr. Stevens fires four shots, all of which struck Mr. Temple."
Perry Stevens fired four shots into Temple's torso. Officer Harrison had already fired one shot into Temple's abdomen. With Temple still struggling with the officer, Perry continued to advance toward the scuffle.
"He again orders Mr. Temple to stop what he was doing and get off the officer. Those commands are ignored and he fires a fifth shot and that hits his head. The incident is over with, and as you know, Mr. Temple is dead."
Police are calling the shooting death justified. Perry Stevens has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Col. Phares would not give out any more details relating to the shooting. Both Phares and Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff stopped short of crediting Stevens with saving the officer's life. LeDuff says the entire incident is unfortunate.
"I spoke with his father at the scene briefly," said LeDuff. "I think this is a tragic situation all around."
9 News is told George Temple has a criminal record, and Officer Harrison was involved in a shooting while employed as a prison guard in East Baton Rouge Parish, where he was suspended for three days back in 1995.

---Gun Battle Ensues As Man Fights Off Home Invaders, Kills 1
December 22, 2012
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Bullets flew during a deadly home invasion robbery as a homeowner traded shots with several suspects.
A suspect was caught and cuffed in connection with the deadly home invasion robbery. Police say the homeowner was rushed to the hospital after trading shots with several suspects and killing one of them.
“I thought someone was banging real hard on my garage door,” neighbor Pat Markofer said.
That banging would be bullets hitting her home and truck as a shootout took place on her normally quiet pocket area street.
“I heard yelling and screaming at the same time, and I heard more shots,” she said.
Police say around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, armed suspects burst into a home on Haven Court, trying to rob those inside. Instead, one of the homeowners would grab a gun, and after an exchange of gunfire, the homeowner and two suspects would be wounded, while another suspect was shot dead.
“There was a young man, he’s just dead, just gone,” said Markofer.
That man would collapse and die right in front of Markofer’s home.
Some neighbors are still fearful to show their face on camera.
“There’s a dozen kids in this court, easy. So that’s what’s scary,” said one neighbor.
In fact, neighbors tell CBS13 there were children inside the home at the time of the robbery.
“My goodness, his children, they had to wait until daylight to take him out of the court,” said Markofer.
For Markofer, it’s a depressing scenario that played out before in a time of year that’s supposed to be jolly.
“It was just awful for everyone. There’s no positive thing for this at all,” she said.
Police will not say exactly what those suspects wanted from inside the home, and whether or not the home was picked at random or was targeted.

----Texas burglary suspect calls 911 on homeowner with gun
December 06, 2012
A Texas burglary suspect dialed 911 early Tuesday morning to report that an armed homeowner was threatening to shoot him, MyFoxDFW.com reported.
James Gerow, the homeowner, told the station that he awoke and discovered a man wearing a dark hoodie inside his Springtown, Texas home. Springtown is a small city Northwest of Fort Worth.
Gerow grabbed his gun and followed the man out to a truck in his driveway.
With gun in hand, Gerow convinced the man to drop his keys. He told his wife to call 911 and waited for deputies to arrive.
"I pointed the gun at him and asked him who he is and what the hell he was doing in my house," Gerow said. "He said his name was Lance, and I said, 'Lance, what the hell are you doing in my house?'
"And he said, ‘unlucky.’ Just unlucky.”
Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said the suspect, later identified as 41-year-old Christopher Lance Moore, also called for help while sitting in his pickup truck.
"I'm out in the country somewhere and some guy's got a gun on me," he said on the call.
When deputies arrived they arrested Moore for burglary of habitation, a second-degree felony.
Gerow said while investigators questioned the suspect, Moore admitted he had "bad intentions."
"I gave him a chance," Gerow said. "Had he said he had bad intentions before that, he wouldn't have got his second chance. That's a different ballgame. You threaten me and my family, that's a different ballgame."

---Burglar arrested after homeowner shoots out getaway car's tire
Nov 29, 2012
A man is in custody after deputies said he picked the wrong house to burglarize Wednesday.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said Jason Hawk broke into a home in the 7000 block of Glendale-Milford Road just before noon, but was discovered when the homeowner returned.
The homeowner, who has a concealed carry permit, took out his handgun and went around behind the home and confronted Hawk, deputies said.
As Hawk tried to flee, the homeowner fired several shots, one of which flattened the left front tire on Hawk's car, deputies said.
Hawk was arrested by officers a few minutes later. Police said the car had two televisions and four rifles in it.
Hawk was not injured. He is being held at the Hamilton County Justice Center on $20,000 bond

Greetings,
Due to the recent events at Sandy Hook elementary school we now face renewed threats to our Constitutional rights. While I understand how painful the loss must be for those touched by this tragedy, blaming firearms or their owners and punishing them is not the answer to the challenges we face as a nation.
We already have laws that were violated by a man who was likely psychotic and heavily medicated. This man was stopped by the mandatory background check from purchasing firearms. He then decided to murder his mother and take her legally owned firearms to commit this tragedy.
If your true goal is to protect our children, then enact legislation that will do that. Banning firearms that are rarely used in crime (less than 1% of the time) is not going to stop such tragedies, that was proven in 1999 when the Columbine shooting took place under the 1994 ban. Do something meaningful, please. Make committing the insane easier. Put armed security guards in our schools. But do not strip us of our rights and property by passing additional anti-gun laws that have historically had no positive effect on crime in our nation or others.
Thank you.
