Lastly, I'm trying something fun, designing a choose your own adventure or interactive story governed by polls on Patreon. The polls are open to everyone, though as you can see they are doubled up, one for public use and one for patrons (and yes, I'm aware that patrons can vote in both polls XD) I'm going to add the polls together at the close of each to make the final decision of how to design the story. Expect more polls in the days to come since there's rather a lot of parameters I could ask people about even before I start pitching 2-4 more detailed scenarios at people =P

Posted 6 years agoI have to say, I'm really stunned by the immediate response I got this weekend from people signing up to sponsor me. I had been expecting this to be slow going until I'd released more chapters of "Bigger", but it's only been a day and I've already got 9 patrons, almost all of whom are pledging $5! To think that this is just starting has filled me with hope for the full novel of "Bigger than He Bargained For," which was perhaps too large of a story for me to serious consider finishing purely as a passion project. Now my guilt is wiped clean, however. I'm committed to finishing the full novel as I envisioned it and am even planning for the sequel!
And to help with that, I think I'll bit the bullet and upgrade from Lite Patreon to Pro. That way I can offer different tiers to patrons and more rewards. Top of my list is an author Discord. Some of you already know that I use Discord a lot. I've picked out people who have given me thoughtful critiques and tried to reach out to them for advice and chat. I might as well open that up to Patrons who are interested as well. Another thing I could offer to premium patrons is the chance to RP with me personally. So, after long consideration, I'm finally making a Patreon creator page. I think it's the best way to help support some of the original content I want to work on like "Eden 2" and "Bigger than He Bargained For." Without something like Patreon, I'm sometimes left worrying about the fact that I could be using the time I'm spending writing an original passion piece to instead be writing a commission or something I intend to put into a book (I'm quite a bit slower at writing commissions too, which is why I haven't publicly opened for any yet XD)
I'm hoping that an early access model will strike a good balance between rewarding supporters and not depriving everyone else of my original stories. I'm sort of using the 'basic' features of Patreon as a trial run, just to see how this all goes. I might add tiers and more rewards and stuff if I see some interest in Patreon =)

Chapter links or Folders?

I'm writing this to ask my readers how they typically enjoy my stories (assuming anyone out there is actually enjoying this shitshow lol!). In particular, I feel I need to ask if anyone finds that chapter links are needed or useful in chapter descriptions; that is, the hyperlinks leading to the previous and next chapters.
I ask because I have done links (inconsistently) in the past, but also, nowadays, I figure that people can find all the chapters in a given story by going to the story's gallery folder.
So, I ask you all, do you really want the chapter hyperlinks, or is navigating through the folder system smooth enough?
I'm writing this to ask my readers how they typically enjoy my stories (assuming anyone out there is actually enjoying this shitshow lol!). Felidae Familia: Part One

I've been working on this sequel in some form for over a year now, and finally the first installment of it is ready for you all to see! I may have mentioned this already, but due to the size of the story, I've decided to break it up into multiple parts rather than try to sell it as a massive 400 or 500 page story. Doing it this way, I think, is more lucrative for me, and also allows me to be more generous with commissioning interior illustrations.
This time around I have partnered with the talented
baronshoebat to provide artwork for the novelette. I went much bigger this time around than Obesus, going from 4 to 20 interior illustrations in addition to the full color cover! I'm very excited with the work he had done and hope you all reading this will be as well.

New Alveri Rewrite

Me and the team on New Alveri realized that there were several critical flaws with Part 1 of Darzhja's story, so to save ourselves time later, we have decided to address major plot problems with a substantial rewrite of certain sections of the story. I just wanted to say that my novel launch has been a great success! I'm so close to breaking even already and it's only been a day so far! That makes me feel fantastic that I have such a great audience interested in my stories and I can't wait to sink the proceeds into more commissioned art =P
That said, another big passion project of mine is New Alveri, which I've been working on and off for over 8 years now! Its first incarnation was over on writing.com, something which I now consider to be the 'first draft'
The rebooted version is currently being worked on here:

We've been posting at a furious pace for weeks now and I don't mind the time commitment so much, but now it is getting to the point where I must think about the time I could be spending perhaps on the sequel to Felidae or other co-authored novels. I love New Alveri, but right now I'm not getting anything back from it, including the funds I and my co-writers need to commission fun art for the work.
Just now, we were talking about setting up a Patreon for the group, but given the way its set up for individual people, that's been proving harder than I first thought.
I would love to hear from any of you, especially fans of New Alveri, any advice you have on how we can go about getting support for this huge, sprawling story, even on the level of just getting enough of a trickle to commission artwork for the project. Many of you have offered great advice in the past and I hope this is another of those moments!

This is the first time I've tried to do anything like this, but I've been looking forward to this since sometime in late November of last year when I actually finished the novel itself ^^
But it's because I have an audience like you and the people I talk with that I'm even confident to do something like this. This is a weird, perverted story, but I'm so happy that there are other people out there who also jive with my weirdness XD
I hope many of you will support my future writing endeavors and collaborations by buying my book. Writing takes a lot of time and I can always use the extra incentive to put words to paper when I'm just not feeling it, or being lazy lol
Anyways, please enjoy the story knowing that it will be continued in one or two more sequels! As well, for those of you who have already had the pleasure of reading the first draft, know that there is quite a bit of Epilogue in the full novel which nobody's seen before

I'm sure most of you have been waiting for an update from me. Unfortunately, it appears that there will be more time needed until I can launch Felidae. But rest assured that progress is being made! =D
In the meantime, I have been throwing most of my free hours into a massive reboot of my largest and longest running dragon-theme series: The New Alveri Chronicles. I reached out to contact my old co-author and we've been working diligently to bring the project back to life with a whole new polish on it. Matt from the old Lion King interactive is also involved and contributing and we've been quite excited about all of it.

Posted 8 years agoWell, I've got the cover art done, thanks to the lustrous sugarboy and things are falling into place with regards to the interior art (done by the estimable envy, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to drop the free portion of the novel and hopefully drum up some excitement for the full version! Everything ought to be done within a few weeks.
I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the setting, the characters or the release of the book here, provided, of course, that they don't spoil anything
Also, I might as well announce here that there will be a sequel to Felidae which I am titling "Felidae Familia" The title will make more sense once you get through the Epilogue of the first book I'm currently writing the first draft of the second novel, so don't expect it any time soon!
Who would have thought someone could write so much about a super obese house cat?! lol
By the way, I was thinking of making this a full .epub as well as a pdf, but do you have any preferences as to file type? Any kindle .mobi readers out there? XD

Posted 8 years agoApologies for the random hate-post, but this is really annoying!
In the past month or so, I've noticed a scattering of activity on my old interactive stories. I just went back to look at them and maybe add in a random chapter to help things along, but this website is deliberately BROKEN if you don't actively pay them for premium membership. It started a few years ago when free members couldn't make interactive stories anymore, but now, NOW, even if you are signed in, the website blocks you, literally sends you to an error screen every other time you click on anything in the interactive story!
Heavy server traffic??? Are you fucking kidding me? I've never seen a website abuse its users like this just because I don't want to give them money. Screw Writing.com!!! I'm just sad that so much of my writing is still there and in a not easily transferable format.
I'm also sad for the few people who have attempted to expand on the stories I placed there. It is tortuous to even navigate the interactive stories, and their MY friggin' stories. *sigh
I did try to forget about writing.com, and I guess I'll have to again. It's simply inoperable as is, due to greed. So, sorry for all of you folks who like the site well enough to shell out for them XD Don't expect those people to have your backs when you get tired of it, is all I can say!

Getting Ready for Felidae!

It's taken more time than I originally expected, but the novel I wrote seems to on track to a full release some time in the near future.
It is over 200 pages of very overweight feline fun and sprang from an Idea I've held close to my heart for quite a number of years! I am going to be including a fully colored cover by sugarboy and 3 interior sketches by envy I'm planning on selling the entire thing for about $14.95 with the first 25 pages or so with the cover being freely available. I already have a sequel in mind as well, unbelievably!
This is my first time selling a big piece like this to the general public, so I'm very excited about it and would love to hear back from any of you who are interested in it. I'll naturally include more details on the story later, but I'm more than happy to answer any of your questions.

I've mentioned to a few of you that I've been interested in programming interactive stories and text adventure games. I've sunk a lot of time this week into learning more about Python, and even made a simple interactive story. From the start, I wanted to revive the old Sarabi interactive story from writing.com which is no longer available since about 2013.
However, after the first several chapters, I realized that coding the entire thing with python was going to be REALLY labor intensive. So I decided to use another tool I learned about during my research, Twine, which is a simplified tool for making interactive stories. It was really easy to use! I finished making the entire thing just today!
I wound up with an HTML file though instead of an actual program. Twine suggested hosting it on Philome.la, so that's what I did.
If you are a fan of obese lions, you are sure to enjoy this classic that I spent multiple years working on. I'm sure by now that many of you have never even gotten to read these chapters around the first time, so I know that this will be a boon to a lot of you. It's 160,000 words all told, so there is a lot to explore! Check it out:

EDIT: I’m open to collaborating with anyone who wants to expand the interactive story. Just shoot me a message here or on Discord and we’ll work something out. Probably I’ll send you the HTML file and you can open and play with it in Twine. I’m not sure how/if I can turn this into something people can work on independently. But even back in the day, the pace of new writers was slow enough for one person to keep up with easily.
