I don't talk about it a lot but...
Posted 9 years agoI have very bad anxiety.. so f you meet me at a con don't be surprised if my vision is shifty, if I seem to not be paying attention and I can't seem to hold your attention.. or seem like I am bored.
Honestly I am not, but I have an 8 yr old with me generally and his service dog.. meaning I am responsible for two other lives the whole time the con is going on.
I take medication but half the time it doesn't actually help me as much as it should. I tend to get very overwhelmed at conventions, especially where there are so many people about.
As well.. lately I have noticed my work is suffering as I'm getting to a point where I need to admit that I have been fighting and lying about depression for quite a while. . I'm not okay, it's not okay.. but I need to do something about this..
My life can be very stressful.. you might not believe that.. sure, yeah.. she makes fursuits, how stressful can that be.. try it... it's not as fun as it can be especially when your life is busy, your child has a lot of needs and you feel like you can't meet all them..and you are stretched thin.
I do love my job.. I love going to cons... I love my kid and even his service dog.. but at times I do need my space..
If you see me going back to my room, juggling my son and his service dog at a con unless you really know me well please don't try and stop me for small talk. If my child and I are out eating or not at our table and I'm concentrating on him please don't invade my space.
Talking to me at my dealer's table is fine and if I don't seem busy.. even asking me if I'm okay to make plans or meet up is okay.. but if I am already busy and working with my son and his dog please let us be..
AND on the topic of his service dog.. YES I KNOW CORGIS AARE CUTE.. but please please please do NOT squeal at her, scream PUPPY! or grab at her, jump in front of her or get between her and my son. Her training is centered around my autistic child having meltdowns and high pitched sounds of distress is one of her triggers to jump to duty and pay him the attention he needs to stop an issue from escalating out of control.. when you distract her by making the sounds she associates with distress you cause her to take her focus away from my son which could cause her to miss her cue and my son to injure himself.
Please respect us all..

An Answer to a Question: "Why is my fursuit taking so long?"
Posted 10 years agoOkay. I don't do this often but this is something that has been bothering me and at this point I think the only solution is to write it out.
Last month I had to cancel someone's Fursuit commission. Not because of my health or my life being to busy but because of something people make not even realize, though this commissioner should have because I mentioned it over and over every time they contacted me.
There is an issue with some commissioners today that they don't seem to understand or may not even know. I think it's time that it needs to be brought into light and they need to think before blaming their suit maker on every thing that may have went wrong in the commissioning process.
Communication.
Communication is nice, and messaging and asking for an update every few weeks is fine.. but there is a point where messaging your suit maker can become obsessive and you may be hindering their work by texting,, calling, emailing, messaging. ESPECIALLY when you are doing it every 15 minutes and it's no longer about the suit but small talk about things you will do when you get it, that it's your birthday today, that you are going to a con tomorrow, why haven't you answered my email I sent an hour ago, ect, ect.
These are things your suit maker doesn't need to know or shouldn't have to reply to. When you have 2-3 customers falling into this process it makes it very hard for your maker to concentrate on their work and often they spend more time messaging you than they do working on commissions. The more you harass your suit maker with things that are not relevant or continuing to ask for updates when you received one a day or two ago makes it hard to make the work flow smoothly and may delay other peoples commissions including yours.
This doesn't mean that you shouldn't contact your suit maker or ask for updates but needing updates and pictures every few days or even asking for them before the time that your maker said they were going to start your suit is wasteful of their time and yours. If you were given a time that your suit was to be started then wait until that time to ask, if your suit doesn't have a deadline and your suitmaker is giving you updates don't text or email them all the time. Give them space to work. Your suit will be done a lot faster and with less hassle if you keep the chatter to a minimum.
I'm not saying everyone does this, nor am I saying that it makes you a bad person to be excited for your suit. I do understand how much you are paying for this item and that you can't wait... but please.. respect the fursuit maker and their business.. especially if we are only one person.
