College
Posted 15 years agoI'm starting college this year. And by this year I mean orientation is tomorrow and Friday, and first day of classes is Monday. I'm really looking forward to it. It's a small college, around 150 to 200 students, so I'll get to know everyone and my classes are 15 people max. It's also a Computer and Art college, so I know every single person there shares interests. The down side is I am staying at home, and will have to commute an hour and a half both ways (If I hit traffic that is, without traffic its 45 minutes each way).
To give you an idea of what this school is like, the schedule for tomorrow involves a placement test, greeting by the administration, lunch, talking about registrar, dinner with an alumni panel, and then the entire incoming freshman classes packs off and goes to play Laser Tag till we get bored.
Plus starting Monday (I think, my class schedule isn't finalized yet) I'm back into programming classes, which I love. So things will be nice.
Anyway, what this means is that I wont be on FA for a couple days, then I will be a lot busier. So if I don't reply to you right away or post comments a few days after something goes up, don't be surprised or offended.
Also, planning on wrapping up stuff for character twitter accounts on Saturday (if possible) so expect me to post those here.

Posted 15 years agoOk, been offline due to a recent vacation, followed by five days of random gaming at various houses, then a day of recovery. And then today my new Alienware M15x laptop showed up. So I'm going to be online a lot, as I now own the second coolest laptop ever (coolest is this one by Datamancer: http://www.datamancer.net/steampunk.....punklaptop.htm ). Anyway, I'm slowly working my way through back messages. Will be up to date soon. Don't be surprised if you get a flurry of comments on stuff a couple weeks old.

Step 4: For those who are guessing -- looking the lyrics up on a search engine is CHEATING!

- Single, and always have been.

- Can't remember. It takes a lot to make me cry.

- Very good. We rub each other the wrong way some times, but most of the time we really enjoy ourselves.

- Faster than I can talk. Fast enough to take ten to fifteen tangents in mid sentence and end up derailing myself.

- Many people. I hate not being able to talk to my friends face to face daily, the one downside of summer.

- Yes, I can. Little nauseous, but that's because I get motion sick and I've been playing FPS games all day.

- Because they think they can get away with it.

Story Changes Again
Posted 15 years agoMaking another journal to get the super long journal off my main page.
My main story has changed so much that it's now too different from my original idea of where I wanted to take it, so it's getting scrapped. Much of the reason for that was the setting, a fantasy world of my own creation, so most of the characters from that story are getting moved to a furry populated earth. I may write the main plot that had evolved out of that at some point, but it would be with a different cast of characters.
So that means I'll be doing a college age furry relationship story. Not the most original idea, but hopefully my characters and writing style will take care of that. No yiff BTW. I want to get more comfortable writing before I attempt that, if I attempt it at all.

Epic Creepyness
Posted 15 years agoWARNING!The following contains some serious ick factor, so if you're squeamish, do not read.I just wanted to post up some of the plot of the Call of Cuchulain mission my friend Dav is running, because it was so awesome. Give me a moment to put on some creepy music to write to... Ok, done.
I just got back from the first day. We made characters then got through the first book.
The story is set in 1926, we are a group of archeologists and such being sent to help on a dig on the Yucatan Peninsula. Specifically, we are sent because the dig is a bit weird and they want experts to look it over.
There are five of us: I'm playing a very booky Archeology grad student from Miskatonic University, and this is the first in the field practice he's had. a Linguist Grad student also from Miskatonic, also on her first dig, my archeology professor, an Indiana Jones type, and a conspiracy theorist who wasn't invited but heard about it and had to come.
Anyway, we arrive at the camp, which is set up about twenty minutes walk from the dig site. We talk to the foreman, named Julian, and we are told that at the site is a Mayan style pyramid that is... off, which is why they called us in. First off, it's buried for some reason. A couple hikers stumbled across when they went to clear away an area for their tent and found a large flat stone. They've dug up fifteen levels so far, and they estimate it's a little over 200 feet tall.
We travel to the pyramid, and we see the other things that are off. The first obvious thing is that there is no entrance on the top level, the stairs go up to where they do on a normal pyramid, but there's no door. The top level is above ground level, with the top of the second level down ending a few inches above ground level. Second thing we notice is the size, it's indeed 200 feet tall or so, and 200 feet wide at the lowest level. The third thing is where is things start to get weird: The entire pyramid is made up of a strange opalescent white stone that has not eroded in the least bit, and is harder than anything Julian has tried to break a piece off with. Not only that, but it seems to be made up of one or two solid slabs per level. Flat, precisely machined slabs.
Then we start our examination of the pyramid, as the workers continue trying to uncover the next level down. First thing we do is try to measure how high each level is, and we find out why the workers couldn't get anything more than estimates.
I measure the first level: 12 feet tall. My prof measures the exact same spot: 14 feet tall.
I measure again: 16 feet.
I lay out a string and cut it to the length of the wall and measure it twice: 15 feet both times.
I lay out another string in the same spot: 18 feet.
I compare the two strings: Not the same length.
I compare both strings to the height of the level: neither match up.
We give up on this for now, moving on the the fact that each level, including the 200 by 200 foot one on the bottom, is their own enormous slab with cuts going across it irregularly. I start documenting the positions of the cuts as the rest of the team heads up the pyramid to look down from the top.
From the top, the cuts form up into a bunch of concentric five pointed stars, with the largest one just touching the edges of the fifteenth level.
About half way through my documentation of the cuts from the bottom up, a sixteenth level is uncovered. The dirt on it is quickly cleared away and the team on the top notices something:
The largest star now just touches the edges of the 16th level, despite there being no star extending past the 15th level.
I continue documenting as the rest of the team test some other stuff, finding that liquids on the pyramid bead up like they do on wax paper and several other oddities. Then I notice something about my diagrams.
The ones I made of the levels I started after the 16th level was uncovered have lines that don't continue onto the levels I documented before the 16th level was uncovered.
Checking them against the pyramid, I find that the lines continue all the way to the ground. So they appeared after the level was uncovered, without anyone noticing.
That night is when things go from strange to scary.
First off, I find Julian's journal.
In it it says that when they started the dig, the top of the highest level was level with the ground, despite the fact that it's a good 16 feet taller now.
Next, it talks of how Julian's brother Juan descended into madness, talking of dreams of going into the temple to free the 'Elder God' that is trapped there, by way of a bloody sacrificial ritual. Specifically forcing open the chest of the victim and stabbing their heart. Then it talks of a symbol in the shape of a five pointed star with a strange eye like symbol in the center, and an incantation to be said over the sacrifice, in a language our linguist cannot place.
Lastly it talks of Juan disappearing one night only to be found the next morning dead and partially melted and disintegrated on top of the pyramid.
We all talk about it for a bit and then go to bed.
The next morning, one of the workers, Miguel, is missing. We search for him for a while then decided to look for him at the pyramid.
He's there.
He's dead.
He's been killed in the exact manner the journal talks of, on the very top of the pyramid.
We bury the body, suspend digging for the day, and plan watches to go through the night to make sure it doesn't happen again. During the process I examine the pyramid to see if the eye part of the symbol is one the pyramid. It isn't, but each and every star is centered so that the eye would be in the same place.
During the third watch of five, the one Julian is on, everyone but Julian falls asleep.
The next morning, Alejandro, the man who was sharing a tent with Miguel is missing.
He's at the pyramid.
Guess what's happened to him.
After burying Alejandro, we confront Julian, and he denies having done it. We search his tent a find a ritualistic looking knife, present that to him, and mention what we found in the journal.
Julian looks confused for a moment.
Then he admits to having killed the men.
Then he rushes the conspiracy theorist, grabs his gun, and shoots himself.
We decide to get to the bottom of this, and go to the pyramid, bringing supplies and weapons. I grab some chalk and draw in the eye where it should be.
The moment I finish the last line, the top of the pyramid crumbles and we fall into the top level.
There is a spiral stair leading down.
We head down.
On the second level, we find the body of a German solider impaled on a wall of spikes. He's dead, but the fresh blood trail leading up from the level below that looks like he was dragged leads us to believe it's not been long.
Then our linguist freaks out, as the solider just woke up and started talking to her.
He's still quite dead to the rest of us.
He tell us, though the linguist, that he's been sitting there for a long time, that we need to leave, and that we need to stay away from the walls.
We continue on to the next level.
On the next level down is a wall that is gushing blood, only to have it reabsorbed into the floor.
We continue around the corner.
There is an archway that has a hideous and completely alien face above it.
We get suspicious and toss a book though.
Something jumps out, then turns and rushes us.
It's a walking corpse.
The conspiracy theorist whips out his shotgun and blows a hole in it's chest, removing the head from the body and making it's arms useless.
It continues to try and attack us.
We kick it over and it can't get back up.
It's then that we realize we recognized the corpse.
It was Miguel.
And his chest was no longer opened up.
Almost as soon as we realized this we are attacked by another zombie.
This time it's Alejandro.
His chest is also whole.
And there's a light coming from one of the alcoves up ahead.
That's where we ended this session. I will be posting more of this sensationally creepy story as I play through the mission.

Happenings in my life

So, I'm approaching the end of my summer school work. Going to finish up with one of them today and the other when the teacher send me the last two assignments. This means I will have access to a scanner again and some of my old sketches and stuff will be going up.
I'm planning on finishing Half-Life 2 this summer finally. I've never finished it because I tend to get motion sick when playing some first person shooters for too long and have to quit for the day and that makes it take forever. I might end up getting some new games but maybe not. If I don't get any new games, I'll be back on Battlefield 2142 by the end of the summer, and I'll post my gamertag here so people can join me if they wish. I'd post it now but I can't remember it.
Can't think of anything else to say, strangely...

Posted 15 years agoI'm not going. Not this year, we'll see about next year. Just felt the need to say something like this since I'm seeing everyone else post the "I'm leaving tomorrow morning!" journal.
Anyway, due to a series of posts done by
eddiew, I've been inspired to hold an interview of sorts with each of my characters. These may or may not get illustrated at some point but for now they're going to be text based. I'm going to start on these next week, but it'll be a while before they go out.
Also, if anyone knows a program that's great for voice recording on a windows, please tell me.
...And if anyone knows a place that lists all the coding that FA allows in posts and comments, could you please tell me.

Posted 15 years agoWatching CSI as I work on stuff today, and the furry episode just started. I understand why people get pissed about it, but it's Hollywood! They only make money if it's interesting! What's more interesting a convention of art lovers or a convention of sexual deviants? Seriously, Hollywood isn't out to get us, it's out to make money in any way possible.

Posted 15 years agoI'm back home, only on for a few minutes before I start unpacking. I'll give a full update on what happened tomorrow, right now I have enough to go through with the 354 new messages here, the 186 on DA, the 57 unread emails (not including the 200 new spam), a weeks worth up updates from my favorite musicians, three friends I have to call, and working out details for the bbq I just found out I'm invited to tomorrow. Not to mention I have to make plans with my friends for my birthday this Saturday.
I will say that I had a lot of fun. And that I'm glad to be home.

I will never use a school locker again.
I will never have PE again (Or have to dress out).
I will never have to wear the school polo shirt again.
I will never buy a school lunch again.
I will never have to check what order the classes are in ever again.
I will never have to touch BlackBoard or Powerschool again.
I will never have to see Ms. Gargoyle again.
I will never have to be at school at 6:30 again (College I'm going to the campus doesn't open till 7:30)
I will never have to wait at that really long light on the way out of school.
I will never have to take another Religion class.
There's probably more that I can't think of now, I'll add those as I finish them. Also, I now have a journal footer, because that way I don't have to post journals stating what I'm working on.

Dirk Tiede, the author and artist for a web comic I like called Paradigm Shift, just posted a link to the blog post complaining about the Last Airbender movie on his twitter. Dirk has sold many copies of his comic, and has appeared on television several times. So imagine my surprise when I see the name of the person's blog he linked to, Gene Luen Yang. I know him as Mr. Yang, my FRIKKEN COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHER! WHAT THE HELL? THIS IS JUST WEIRD!
I knew that Mr. Yang had picked up some recognition when his graphic novel American Born Chinese was the first graphic novel to be nominated for a National Book Award and first to win the American Library Association's Printz Award. But it's one thing to know that your teacher is sorta famous another entirely for someone you thought was completely unrelated to mention him.

Yay sleep deprivation!
Posted 15 years agoToday's been long. Really long. Something woke me up at 1 this morning, and I couldn't get back to sleep. Normally, this wouldn't ever effect me, but this has been happening every day for the last three weeks. I'm thinking it's the stress from everything going on with school.
I'm coming up on the end of my senior year of high school, two weeks and then finals. I'm not going to pass two of my required classes, and I'm going to have to make them up during summer school. This means I'm not walking the stage at Graduation. From the looks of things, I'll be able to finish the make up classes early enough so that the college I'm going to will never know I failed anything.
Anyway, on to the reason today's been so long. I got to school at 6:30 or so this morning. I'm still here. I haven't left. It's 7:15pm. I'm going to be here till 9:30. The reason for this is we have a rehearsal for my Digital Music Studio end of year concert. I'm not actually playing, but I was planning on handling behind the scenes stuff for my group. Then I find out that our group isn't part of rehearsal, as only three people out of or seven person group are here. only one of the three of us is actually playing. So I'm sitting here working on homework and ranting on FA while listening to a friend practice playing his base. The rest of my night consists of this, then getting home about the time I normally would go to sleep, and having to take out the trash.
To top it all off, I'm getting the standard bug I get whenever I'm really stressed. Constant sick feeling, never feeling very hungry, slight headache. Not fun.
Anyway, I just needed to rant for a few minutes. Here's hoping that the next few days are not very stressful.
And what the hell? One of the groups is rapping over the instrumental version of Strawberry Fields Forever. Seriously...

Posted 15 years agoThe behind the scenes tour of the zoo was so much fun. We got to feed elephants and giraffes again this year, and got to visit the tigers. For the second year in a row, the one of the tigers tried to pee on us. The new thing this year was getting to meet one of the river otters they have, and learn how they train them, which was amazing. I'd post pictures, but they specifically said that if we took pictures we couldn't put them online. Normally, I'd have no problem ignoring that, but the zoo's director is my best friend's dad, so I'd feel bad.
The new things I learned today:
1) Elephants make a purring noise when they're happy
2) Otters embryos will stop development indefinitely until certain environmental conditions are met. (They didn't say what was needed specifically.)
3) A couple years ago a Lion got out into the zoo, and was returned to it's enclosure without anyone getting harmed. Connected to this I learned that cats cant climb over the top of a fence unless there is a place the can stand on top.
4) Our zoo was the first to use the positive reinforcement only method of training that is used in half the worlds zoos today.
5) These Bengal Tigers can lift the 65 pound ball in their enclosure with their teeth!
Much of the other stuff that was discussed today I already knew so it's not standing out to me at this moment.

Posted 15 years agoSeriously, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week I spent 6 hours each day programming. Today (Saturday) I spent from 9:30 this morning till now (10PM) programming. And I'm not done yet! I've got two more programs left to write.
This is all for my AP Computer Science class, which we already took the AP test for! Seriously, it's an AP class, we should be done when the test has been taken. You know, the way the the other Three AP classes I've taken worked. My teacher just had to assign a crapload of new complicated projects and have a full final I have to study for.
At least I saved the easiest for last. Probably take me an hour and a half.
In other news, I displayed my knack with animals tonight when my neighbor brought over her new baby bunny for me to hold. I've never met the little thing before, and within five minutes of getting into my arms, he was fully relaxed and stretched out on my chest. I have a new best friend.
Also, I get to go to our local zoo tomorrow for a behind the scenes tour for the second year in a row. Last year I got to hand feed an Elephant bananas and Giraffes carrots and get three feet and a chain link fence from a Bengal Tiger. Oh, and a tiger in an enclosure a little farther away tried to pee on us. Stuff went wrong with the pictures I took last year but I'm determined to get a lot this year.
I'll most likely post another journal tomorrow afternoon raving about how much fun I had, so keep an eye out for that.

Posted 15 years agoAs soon as I post that intro to Wanderings, I realize that it should be a prequel to another story I was planning with the same characters. So Wanderings is being put on hold until I get far enough into this other story to warrant someone asking the characters how they met, and what led up to them ending up on our Earth.
I think this is a good place to describe the new story, which is currently nameless. It's the story of Amethyst and Ashlyn ending up on our present day Earth and trying to get back to their world. I know it's a little cliché, but sometimes clichés work. I'm dragging a friend of mine into writing one, maybe two, of the characters because I find it easier to write responsively. I'm going to be taking much more control than the other story we're writing together.
In other news, I realized that I had never uploaded the short story I wrote for class, or the song I put together a while back. Both of those should be going up today.
Also, my next door neighbor got a new baby bunny yesterday, and I got to spend an hour with it in my arms. My life is awesome.
Lastly, I just finished watching part 1 of "The Time of Angels" from the newest series of Doctor Who. OMG! I can't wait for next week to see the second part. I was thinking of drawing an angel fan art but NOT ANY MORE! I'm never drawing anything that even looks like one. *Shudder* Steven Moffet you are a genius, and I love/hate you for it.

Posted 15 years agoThe good news, I finally have something to update. It's a story a friend an I are working on together, more of a very long extended role play. He's playing one main character, I'm playing several main and almost every background character. The whole thing started as a way for the both of us to practice writing and it kinda took a life of it's own. I wanted a world where we didn't have to come up with anything, one that was pre-made, so it's set at the Succubus and Incubus Academy from DMFA (www.missmab.com). For those not familiar with the comic, Cubi in this world are not sex demons (Most aren't), Cubi are emotion eating shapeshifters, so no yiff. Anyway, It's something like 70 pages in MS word.
The bad news: I'm waiting on him to come up with a last name for his character, a name for a minor character, and a FULL DESCRIPTION of another minor character. I've been bugging him for the last week since we got Day One done, and he still hasn't gotten it. Any way, I'll post it when I get the last bits from him. Expect a few days to a few weeks, as if he takes too much longer, I'm filling the blanks without him.
