I haven't really written much in ages. I kind of want to but I feel like I get this weird mental block, and I just kind of want to get the juices flowing. Just not sure what to do.

Anything anyone would be interested in seeing done? Shoot me an idea for a writing prompt here or in PM if you want. If I see something that catches my interest I'll whip out a little short story for you.

So, I don't have anything fundamentally against Patreon or the artists who use it. It's well suited to use for funding some kind of special ongoing project, or just a way to offer a little tip to your favorite artists. It's cool, I get it.

But I see it being abused, too. Things like slapping big fat Patreon watermarks on commissioned art with a promise for higher res versions (without the 'ads') seems abusive to me. Someone already paid you for that work. Just seems like a cynical way to try and extract more money from your fans.

Oh, well. Least I can always unwatch the folks who are abusing it :>

Birthday #37 has come and gone. It was a decent one with "diet" chocolate cake and a visit to the local miniature golf place. I forgot they have a number of dragons there. Good fun :>

I finally decided to dust mine off since there's a few folks who seem to use it as their primary contact. But every time I have it running, it never says people are online. Doesn't say online, or offline, just a ? symbol. So I never know when anyone is around. So I never know when to say hi ;_;

Hello to my recent followers *waves* For a little while I was like .. feeling a little guilty because people are following me mostly for the art I post, which are all commissioned works and not my own creations. But then I realized that it's also a chance for me to help some of my favorite artists get a little bit more exposure - small as it may be. So hey! It's great to have you around :>

For various personal reasons I'm in the process of reducing my digital footprint. I know there are a couple people here who communicate to me from time to time via Tapestries MUCK. I'm going to be abandoning (and probably toading) my account there in the near future, for those of you there who don't already have it, note me here for my email address if you'd like to keep in touch.

So, I've been involved in this fandom for over a decade now. Never really gave these things much thought at all, and you'd think that by now I'd be pretty well set in my ways.

Yet here I find myself, for the first time, really, regretting that I do not go to these things.

Problem is that I am not having much luck finding artists who are open for commissions. I know a couple that I have commissioned in the past - and may well hit them up again - but I would also like something new. Anyone know any good artists who are looking for work? Someone good with dragons? Someone who does high quality art? I'm not afraid to pay for it, not looking for the cheap route here.

So I've been really quiet here for a while, and in large part that's because I've been working on a mainstream, urban fantasy novel and getting it ready for publishing. I'm going the self-publishing route for various reasons that I won't get in to here, but, as part of an attempt to get some funds scraped together for the project I'm giving Kickstarter a try.

Not much going on lately on the writing front. Have a trade/commission that I've been working on, have the last finishing touches to put on it and should have that up this week. One other idea bouncing around in my head but dunno if and when it'll see the light of day. Still sitting on my draft for my novel. Need to get that moving at some point.

Other than that I've not been feeling very positive about it. Constantly second guessing if I'm any good, if it's worth the trouble and the bother to keep going with it. I know, all in all it's pretty trite to come around and whine about this, but sometimes you just gotta get it off yer chest. I guess it's not that bad a bitching session after all.

I was just getting ready to complain that turning 34 is uninteresting because there isn't really anything interesting about the number 34.

Then I remembered the rule.

Finally, at last, I can claim to have knocked one of those long-term goals off of my list : I wrote a novel. And wouldn't you know but most of it was done in December. Would have totally nailed NaNoWriMo if I'd done it last month ...

Now I shall put it in the capable hands of a few friends to read and critique for me, put the damned thing out of my mind for a while, and decide if it's actually worth doing anything with :)

Gah, Skyrim.

Our cat Auron was killed last night when a neighbor's dog escaped and .. well, the rest is easy enough to imagine without having to go into details.

Auron was a grouchy old cat but a sweetheart at the same time. I dropped him off at the crematorium this morning, later this week when he's ready we'll have a nice little memorial to set up for him. We're very sad to see him go but it's comforting to know a part of him will be with us always.

Rest in peace Auron, you will be missed!
