still kicking
General | Posted 11 years agoSo sorry for the long quiet absence. Home life has been very hectic and nothing has been counted on lately. Lost people and animals in a short amount of time alongside my parents becoming ill.
But everything is alright. Chin and tail up.
Still working on artwork although it's been pushed to the fringes of my days and nights. The blue art funk has finally broken I think.
Still planning to open up fully for commissions, just don't want to start that until I'm certain no one has to wait long for artwork.
Bless those still waiting on me. Sorry I'm one of those.
Much luffs everyone!

To all the watchers, old and new...if I missed leaving a shout on your page thanking you for faves or watches, (or if you just don't like to be spammed in your shoutbox ^^ ) then let me say it now.....
Thank Yuuuuuuuuuuuus
I'd been a little discouraged lately and all this really lifted my spirits.
*big fluffeh tyger hugs*
And yet another Thank You to
for being so benevolent and supportive as I improve. It's always a pleasure to work for you.
Also for those that are interested.....when I'm officially open for commissions (Mmmm yesss....soon...SOON!) I will be posting a price sheet and more up-to-date info on my profile.
Once again, Thank You! to all you lovely critters! Hopefully I can keep you entertained. ^__^

We're Gravy Baby
General | Posted 12 years agoSnowed in and loving it. Yes it's barely eight inches but hey it happens so rarely around here...it's been years since I could make a proper snow man! All is well, just one tree limb landed on the chicken coop but there was no damage. *knocks on wood* Still got power and I'm working on a pencil sketch to upload tonight if all goes well.
Figured I'd check in after seeing the chaos in other parts of my state. :/
Anyways...hunkered down, drawing and chilling my tea in the snow.

Disruption in the Ǽther
General | Posted 12 years agoWoooo....LOTS of unsavory things being passed through the FA grapevine lately. Not sure how to feel about it, especially when there are so few facts and sooooo much rumor. Which I'm discovering is rather routine around here. :/
So for those who are leaving here is mah Weasyl page....that is if they can bring the website back online (DDoS attack? Anybody know?)
https://www.weasyl.com/profile/shimmeringtyger
Are there other art sites that ya'll recommend?
Anyways, much love to you all and keep well out there!

Character Questionnaire
General | Posted 12 years agoSnagged this from
, seemed like fun. I like how she swapped "fursona" for "character".
What made you choose the species of your main Character?
I suppose it all started when I was a kid and heard the poem "Tyger" by William Blake. The verses are so haunting and it really stuck with me. The tiger is also my Zodiac animal. They are shy solitary creatures unless provoked. I really admire their strength, beauty, and wildness. And one day in a hallway at college I was granted the amazing chance to pet a tiger cub that someone was bringing to a class. Coolest day ever!
Is your character just like you, or how you want to be?
Ashkeera is stronger both physically and emotionally. She has a much harder lifestyle. And I've always thought it would be cool to have a tail....already found some pretty nice horns at a renn faire. I love a good game of pretend.
Does your character have the same personality you have?
Sort of. She can be more light-hearted, aggressive, and ruthless than I.
Does your character have the same dislikes and likes as you do?
We both equally dislike cities, poachers and bible salesmen.
We both equally love moonshine, magick and song.
She eats more raw meat than I. I eat more cake than she.
Does your character look like you at all?
Only if you squint reeal hard. Ashkeera's eyes are more of an emerald and she's more golden furred.
Is your character the same gender as you, if not why?
Yep, ♀
Do you have more then one main character?
I do, but Ashkeera is my favored.
Do you have a back story for your character, if so does it have anything to do with your own history?
Still working on her story. One could say she's loosely based off my experiences. Her life is harder and she's suffered more loss, which makes it so easy for her to be reclusive.
Is your character mated, if so is it to your real life significant other?
No, atleast not yet. My mate still needs to build his character. *nudge*
If not are they looking for a mate, or are they a swinger so to speak?
Ashkeera isn't seeking. She's been too devoted to protecting her alpine forests. Not above a good dalliance or two if someone caught her eye, but her location is very remote. And she would have to stalk them for awhile to make sure they weren't disturbing her deer.
Is there something special about your character that you think sets them apart from others?
Probably not because there's nothing new under the sun. Ashkeera is part Manticore which erupts when she's in a rage. When that happens she becomes four-legged and can grow to the size of a mammoth, destroying anything in her path. Extra horns grow from her forehead, shoulder blades, down her spine to the tip of her mace-like tail. Her tail spikes and fangs contain a narcotic-like venom that temporarily disables her victims. She's lightly gifted in earth magic and healing. When she's calmer she can suppress her horns and look either a simple golden tigress or nearly human. But all this costs her heavily in energy and she must feed often. Woe be to the one that crosses her then.
Do you have much art of your main character?
I've done a few pics, they've changed a bit as she evolves and my skill gets better.
But
did this super cute pic http://www.furaffinity.net/full/9860638/
And
did this lovely pic of her http://www.furaffinity.net/full/12232609/
(i owe them both a good art glomphing here soon)
Would you ever consider parting with your main character, if so why?
Nopes.
If you suit, do you have a suit of your main character?
I don't. They're super neat but I wouldn't care for the confinement inside.
Have you ever roleplayed with your main character, or do you prefer not to?
I have with a few friends and I enjoy it when there is time. It's a fun creative exercise.
Do you consider your main character to be a part of you in any way?
Of course.

2014 urrpdates
General | Posted 12 years ago We made it to another year!
Firstly a big THANK YOU to all of y'uns who have Watched, Faved, and especially commented on my works. Another THANK YOU goes to
for mentioning me in her journal. That was super nice and awesome of you! I hope you get to feeling better soon!
And to those of you who are waiting for moar arts...*big fluffeh tyger hugs*....another round of THANK YOUS for your extreme patience! It will not go unnoticed ;)
Lovely polar vortex I must say. We are at 10° F. and dropping. Likely to go -0° F. by tomorrow. No snow except a few pretty flurries. Hope the rest of yous are staying warm and safe out there. I have been staying near the woodstove with my lapcat so far, but will gear up before sundown and give all the animals a once over. Horses should be fine, plenty of shelter and hay at the barn and they have nice thick winter coats on already. Still working on owed artworks. At the moment I'm coloring the background on Lakshali for Teiirka. It's coming right along except for the play of the lantern light...that is stumping me the most. When I finish a bit more on the cushions and pillows I'll post a Work In Progress in my scraps.
Last year wasn't easy. Lost a bunch of chickens to predators, a couple of cats too. Garden failed miserably because of too much rain. Hardest of all was losing my Granduncle to cancer. Didn't get the chance to say goodbye the way I would have liked thanks to coming down with norovirus just before Thanksgiving. We weren't super close, he lived in another state and couldn't visit my late Grandmother too often but we "were cut of the same cloth" she said. He always wanted to take me fishing, dig for ramps and go see the elk at Cataloochee but we never got the chance.
My main goal this year to make sure my family knows how much I love them, and to take more time to be together. Not to let opportunities pass us by.
For the rest of the year I couldn't get the time to finish work on commissions. Family needs kinda took all my spare time and my plans of being a working artist kinda got shot to hell. Now in the winter slow season I've more time for my "hobby" (that term kinda ticks me off because Art is very much a passion....just not one i can pursue at hearts content)
But anyway...goal for 2014 is MORE ART! MORE LOVE!
My other goals include a new chicken coop and fenced chicken yard before the pine falls on the old one. The garden soil needs a different approach this year, tons more compost and less tillage. After four years my dad just might be listening to me on that last one.
I think that's about it.
May you and yours keep well this New Year 2014
!

Listening to the rain and drawing.
General | Posted 12 years agoIt's beautiful and gray today. The mountains have all disappeared behind curtains of slow rain. And it's so warm! I'm loving having the windows open to the wet woods. Gives me the chance to work on all the nifty projects for evahbody. And to top it all off, I finally get to enjoy the strawberry cheesecake I bought yesterday. This tigress is most pleased. *settles in her nest of sketchbooks and blankets on the couch*
How are all the critters out there? Hope you are all well.
Much luffs. ^_^

just a pretty day
General | Posted 12 years agoI took my sweet time waking up today. Sorry that I haven't been a more talkative or productive critter. My personal art time has been hard to come by these days. Not much progress has been made there. I'm really being careful on Lakshali during the coloring stage. One little slip up is all it takes right now to ruin it. You all might not see any art until I finish her.
Other than that it's been a long week of volunteering with the chicken club down at the county fair. Loved every minute of it until the smell of a burnt funnel cake made me sick. Now all the gals in the club are standing around giving me those knowing looks. Pretty sure it's a stomach bug going around or the greasy corndog simply didn't jive with me....and not preggers, keeping up with babyneice is enough chillins for me thanks. Anways....the experience has taught me how strong my passion is for fixing my grandfather's farm. So many people have never seen some of these creatures up close. I had never seen pheasants up close before either. Children and adults alike were fascinated by them and traveled some distance to see them. Everyone loves the variety of the birds, cattle, goats, sheep and horses .....even if they don't know how to act around them (it used to bother me that sometimes kids in my class got away with harassing the birds, one reason i have no problem staying and guarding chickens nowadays). And while the crowds were the same as last year, the fair itself had shrunk a bit. No one is sure why, everyone says the economy, and they're probably right. Nevertheless I'm convinced that the tradition should be kept up, it really does mean a lot to kids that have only that small connection to the animals and the land.
All I need to do is build the fences and knock up some sheds. Easier said than done...but it would be my heaven.
Had to share a daydream after that rant from awhile back. Now it's time prowl through the lovely records I found at the flea market, crank up the turntable, grab the shopvac and clean up the house after this lovely weeklong chickening.
Hope all you critters are okay and catching a break on this Monday.
*lots of fluffy ol tyger luffs*

I love it when...(rant)
General | Posted 12 years ago...a distant-other-side-of-the-family member's friend comes staggering into my driveway and tells me he's disappointed that I didn't finish college...
"Well, y'know when the cost of tuition doubles right after a Recession, and your grandmother has dementia so bad she needs constant supervision....but it would take everything you have to hire a caregiver.....so you quit school and your job to become the caregiver, until she passes away almost a year later....and then your sister gets knocked up, and subsequently needs a babysitter......you just kinda forget about college."
Like I needed that.....Hell, I'm disappointed too, in a lot of things, of which quitting school is only a small part! And guess what, I bet before I'm dead I'll be a little more disappointed! But you know something else...I look after my own.
He was probably drunk and I shouldn't let it get to me. But damn. Every time someone comments on whether or not I'm in school, I just feel like such a failure.
Sorry everyone, had to vent.

STOLEN ARTWORK!
General | Posted 12 years agoHeard the story through the grapevine...... http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4946137/
Kigai's work and art supplies were stolen right out of his car at IndyFurCon! WTF!
I get terribly attached to my artwork, and cannot imagine what I would do if all my originals were gone. Hopefully Kigai can find his again.
Keep your eyes peeled everyone.
Much luff in the meantime

Aligning all the Ducks
General | Posted 13 years agoTangled in sidework at the moment. Art has been pushed to the edges of my day, if I manage to get my claws on it at all. Sorry I've not been more talkative and sociable. But here is where we stand thus far:
Trade with CalebSharpTeef, the Ancient Giant piece is in progress around the campfire...
Commission for Teiirka, Tigress Dancer is flittin around in experimental stage....
....and other tigers and giraffes half on paper, other half in mah brainz...
One of the perks of the sidework is I can hop onto the internet during lulls, however this site is blocked there, (no surprise). Given me time to spruce things up on Weasyl. My page still needs some work, but please drop by if ya like. Still trying to locate all my fellow critters on there. Sorry if I haven't found any of you yet, still feeling it out.

Not leaving, mind you, though there has been much unsavory controversy going on in the FA æther lately. I'm just following through on the advice of a friend and broadening my horizons. I will continue to post here, so don't worry.
on another rather funny note, when I Googled "ShimmeringTyger", I found one in Denmark and another in Turkey. Hehehe. And just when I think I'm creative....knew I should have went with "MissSparkleTygerPants".....damn.

General | Posted 13 years agoWorking into day five of what could be the flu. It's milder this time round...could be just a really bad cold. I was on the rebound, but I pushed it this morning taking pictures of the snow. Art's been paused since I might fall asleep on top of it, personalizing it with a good smear. So...here we are....one mini-cup into the Green Death and sitting with the cat...taking comfort in the arms of Denis Leary.

One of my favourite poems by Robert Frost
General | Posted 13 years agoGone for fifty years, but certainly not forgotten.
A Line-storm Song
by Robert Frost
The line-storm clouds fly tattered and swift,
The road is forlorn all day,
Where a myriad snowy quartz stones lift,
And the hoof-prints vanish away.
The roadside flowers, too wet for the bee,
Expend their bloom in vain.
Come over the hills and far with me,
And be my love in the rain.
The birds have less to say for themselves
In the wood-world’s torn despair
Than now these numberless years the elves,
Although they are no less there:
All song of the woods is crushed like some
Wild, easily shattered rose.
Come, be my love in the wet woods; come,
Where the boughs rain when it blows.
There is the gale to urge behind
And bruit our singing down,
And the shallow waters aflutter with wind
From which to gather your gown.
What matter if we go clear to the west,
And come not through dry-shod?
For wilding brooch shall wet your breast
The rain-fresh goldenrod.
Oh, never this whelming east wind swells
But it seems like the sea’s return
To the ancient lands where it left the shells
Before the age of the fern;
And it seems like the time when after doubt
Our love came back amain.
Oh, come forth into the storm and rout
And be my love in the rain.
I used to stick this poem and dogwood flowers to my mate's jeep when we were at college. How is it that when men leave flowers and poetry it's romantic, but when a girl does it, it's considered stalking? *laughs* Oh well, it worked.

ATTENTION FURS NEAR TEXAS...Keep watch for this dove pendant
General | Posted 13 years ago
Swandog has an Aunt down in TX, whose house was broken into over the holidays. Please check her journal for a summary of some of the stolen things. http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4059427/One of the items stolen was a beautiful Dove Pendant that Swandog herself designed.

I know Texas is a big place, but I figure it couldn't hurt to keep your eyes peeled for any sign of these items, so hopefully they can be returned. Especially something so unique as that pendant, which was dear possession. Pawn shops, flea markets, craigslist, and the like in that surrounding area could be used by thieves to resell the items.
Just passing the word along.
Keep well friends.
