A lot has been going on the last year and I've taken a step back from the furry fandom. For those not in the know, last August I separated from my husband and life has been pretty up and down since. I've barely drawn any furry art and have been mostly focusing on My Little Pony stuff these days. I might add my MLP stuff here at some point, I havent decided yet. I dont go by the name Shirik any more either and having a gallery under that name just... doesn't appeal to me. I may make a new account but again, haven't decided.
I am still drawing, still in touch with a lot of my furry friends just it has mostly been not wanting to associate with this name any more.

Another poorly ferret..
Posted 12 years agoYou guys already know about my poorly boy Rolo.. now my boy Scrat is very unwell as well. Scrat was the first ferret we ever chose and is a special boy to us, just after Rolo's legs went bad he started losing hair. We assumed it was from stress due to Rolo being taken from the group and recently adding a new ferret to the gang. His hair loss has become very severe and is symmetrical, leading myself and my vet to believe he is suffering from Adrenal - http://www.lbah.com/word/ferret-adrenal-disease/ WARNING LINK CONTAINS INTERNAL ORGAN PHOTOS, SURGICAL PROCEDURES. He is having ultrasound today to try and aid in the diagnosis, blood tests may be following if he can't find anything visible in the ultrasound.
Really not having a great time atm.

After posting this literally just had call from vets - Scrat is very distressed and not co-operating at all with having conscious ultrasound so he's having to be fully put under now.

Results are in - Scrat has a large cyst in one of his kidneys. Options are: biopsy under ultrasound (risky as near loads of blood vessels), removal of the kidney or just leaving it. Vet has recommended due to his age etc to just leave it as he feels the surgery would be tool high risk for him but if he starts showing signs of discomfort, behavioral changes etc to bring him back in to discuss it further.
Really not having a great time atm.

Confuzzled customers - please read
Posted 12 years agoI've now started work on the owed artwork from Confuzzled, I will be working through Digital first then focusing on traditional.
Why digital first? Mostly because it's generally faster to do and I don't have as many of them to do, I'm not prioritizing these in any specific order - just the order I have them listed on my computer from the con itself. So keep your eyes peeled, there'll be a lot of stuff coming up in the next few days!

URGENT - open for sketch commissions
Posted 12 years agoRecent vet bills have eaten all our money, much as I hate to do so - opening sketch commissions for today to be DONE today/tomorrow. I know I still owe art from CFz, but I need money desperately - down to our last £15 and need to pay for my husbands travel to work and groceries and I won't be getting any money in until the 16th.

Rolo update
Posted 12 years agoRolo is still undergoing tests and diagnosis - he's had several xrays, all of which show no breaks or fractures to any bones (if you recall we were worried it would be a spinal injury) and has also been on antibiotics in case it was an infection which caused the issue - these have not helped at all.
Right now they are considering the following diagnoses -
Viral infection - hence the antibiotics not helping, low possibility but blood work will need to be done

He has had fasting blood sugar tests which showed a low glucose level, however despite being given glucose orally and observed by the vet for the afternoon this did NOT seem to "perk him up". Normally animals with this condition will show an improvement shortly after being given glucose.
He goes back to the vet tomorrow to discuss things further, right now his current tests are being looked at by two other vets in the practice to try and see if anything has been missed.

Harassment issues, please read
Posted 12 years agoIt has come to my attention that people have been harassing a previous fursuit customer of mine due to a review that was written online.
I will say this once - harassment in my name is not cool and I do not approve of it. Any issues with the transaction or the suit itself are between me and the customer and do not require other people getting involved and causing unneeded distress.
In short - don't do it and if you HAVE done it, please stop. It's unfair and upsetting both to the customer and to myself for them to be harassed over this.

Starting to lose my patience with a lot of furries...
Posted 12 years agoI posted this on my facebook a few weeks ago and people kept reposting it and asking me to put this on FA as well. So here it is, a little rant I did. Im aware this has been spread around a bit but it originally came from my rantyness.
I find myself starting to become a lot less tolerant of newer, young furries. The ones that are shiny and new to the fandom, have to RP EVERYTHING and think they we're all best buddies because we like cartoon animals - you know, we're all in the fandom you guys we should all love and tolerate everything!!! All furries are sweet an innocent and we all lie in a society where one interest links us all together in harmony - while we're at it, fancy a shag? ;). I have news for these people: like ANY group of people, we're all different and chances are... I won't like you. You may end up with NOBODY liking you depending on who YOU AR AS A PERSON - nobody cares if you're a rainbow coloured husky/wolf/tiger/pigeon/meerkat hybrid, if you have a nice fursuit or are a great artist - if you are a dick to people you will be treated back as such. In my time in the fandom despite generally knowing happy wonderful lovely people I have also known neo-nazis, violent criminals, sexual predators, psychologically deranged people, child abusers, animal abusers to name but a few - should we be happy and fluffy and welcome people like this with open arms? NO. Normal society wouldn't so why should we, as a fandom, be EXPECTED TO? SO take off your goddamned rose tinted glasses, no fandom is a happy family and stop treating it as such. The fandom is not your personal hugbox and BAD SHIT CAN HAPPEN - don't be naive about people, that's how you end up getting in trouble.

Posted 13 years agoThis has been bugging me a lot the past few weeks to the point I just want to say this.
If you buy a pre-made resin blank, with ready installed eyes, jawset and tongue.... you did not "make" your entire fursuit. I keep seeing this happening with the resin/outsourced parts creators NOT being credited. Suits made with bases saying "100% made by me, I'm so awesome!" and then them being worshiped for their "realism" or "amazing symmetry" - when a lot of it isn't their work.
Now, I have NO issues with people outsourcing parts for fursuits - I do it myself, all my fursuit eyes are made by
funlaser which is stated on my website. I also occasionally need to outsource other bits, when I do I say I have and credit the people who did the work. I get that not everyone gets on well with foam and needs to use a resin base, the creation of which can be quite daunting to newbies so they buy one - I'm cool with that. Again just CREDIT!

Now, I have NO issues with people outsourcing parts for fursuits - I do it myself, all my fursuit eyes are made by
funlaser which is stated on my website. I also occasionally need to outsource other bits, when I do I say I have and credit the people who did the work. I get that not everyone gets on well with foam and needs to use a resin base, the creation of which can be quite daunting to newbies so they buy one - I'm cool with that. Again just CREDIT!
