Testing
Posted 12 years agoTrying to test how long it takes me to work on pictures and working on a rate of $15-$20 an hour. My patience does not go beyond 2-3 hours with the other things I need to get done.. and well.. my sit down patience doesn't go beyond that either. :D :D

Happy Holidays
Posted 12 years agoMerry Christmas, Happy Holidays and have a Good New Year. :D
I'm looking forward to 2013 now that we've got all the doomsday crazy people off that path. There were enough of them that it won't surprise me if they had a big impact on the craziness of this year.

There is a BRONY CON in the city I live ten feet away from. :D :D I will be sending in my application to be a vendor tomorrow and yes, all art outside of commissions is likely to suddenly be ponies for months as I build up stock for jewelry designs and tags. I'm positivilutely excited about this prospect of an entirely new audience. :D

Thanksgiving Week
Posted 13 years agoI'm posting about this now, even though it's a month away. I will be taking that week off from comic work to do frequent streaming of commission work. (My current commission list should be mostly done in the paid commission area, save for some that I can't seem to contact.) I will be TAKING SMALL numerous commissions during that time for donations to my 'Fix a car' fund as well as three or four larger commissions. They will be digital and traditional and I will post a 'what you get for whatever range' thing. Basically, we need to replace the timing belt in our car (we only have one car) which is $650 plus tax, replace the front tires, $250 roundabouts ... and.... get work done on the brakes asap, $250 + or negative, have no clue. The car shimmies when you break. :( My daughter's medical bills are making it impossible to save any money at the moment, so once that's done, working on into that area. We can't afford the $50 a month every single one of them wants to charge and there are 3 of them. That has been dragging us down greatly, more so when I was paying over $100 each on four different accounts a month. :( (Until we just couldn't do it and I stopped and sent them checks for $10 with apologies.) We were fortunate that Kim did not need heart surgery this year, but it took an $1,100 MRI to see that clearly. We had put that off for a year, before they finally talked us into it., because on one hand, I am so against adding more problems and on the other, it prevented an even greater financial burden.
So during that week, I'll choose what I'm doing for the day, post it and run the tally.

Ugh.. The New 'Filters'
Posted 13 years agoI'm completely confused about why a SFW was added when the regular filters are good enough, at least they WERE good enough. I'm seeing plenty of Mature/Adult stuff even though I'm set to General that I did not see before in my thumbnails. 9.9 I don't like using the SFW button, because it causes problems when I'm looking through my submissions by telling me the wrong number that are there for viewing. :(

Back to being BACK on track
Posted 13 years agoI have a process I follow. If I did not follow it, I'd get nothing done. Unfortunately, summer pretty much destroyed my process. :P
It involves first… reclaiming my various levels of buffers. The Script buffer (this one’s not a problem), the layout buffer, the lettering buffer, the pencil buffer, the ink buffer, color buffer and finished comic buffer. When the buffers are at acceptable levels, which is 10 pages in the layout and lettering buffers, then I can get caught up on all the comics I need to do!
The rest of the buffers are at minimum, twice as many as I need done per week. I'm at the beginning of that and need to be one week ahead so I can take Thanksgiving off!

I Love My Cat Pt 2
Posted 13 years agoStupid cat. :P
We cancelled her Saturday visit to be put to sleep and I scheduled her wellness check on Tuesday. Wellness check at Banfield means I drop her off in the morning and she stays there all day to get looked over, shots, bloodwork, etc. Routine visit with my notes about concerns for her behavior.
She PEED in the carrier. First time she's done that. Yowled and carried on the entire 15 minutes she was in there like I was torturing her. So I had to apologize the vet about my pee covered cat (I turned the carrier on one end to get all the pee out before putting it in the car, since she did it on the way down. Knew I'd be giving her a bath when we got home.
Visit went fine. As expected, nothing wrong with her at all. She's just not liking this inability to see. Fully traumatized her by giving her a bath when we got home and marveled at the fact that I have NOT given her a bath in at least two years. No need to. Cat couldn't fight me all that much. She's really lost most of her strength and is weaker than a 4 month old kitten.
Dried her off, let her go clean her fur. She gives me dirty looks, then that night, she invites herself into the bed. :P Purring. Wants attention. Next day, I get meowed at by a chatty cat who is never that chatty. Seems like a completely different cat.
TODAY, she's coming out into the living room repeatedly to see what we're doing (first to inform me I had not fed her breakfast yet.) Which is what we wanted.
SO basically, I just need to traumatize her by taking her to the vet so she realizes how happy she is at home.
Dumb cat.

I Love My Cat
Posted 13 years agoI also know my cat well, but it doesn't make it any easier. I have a mostly healthy, very unhappy 13 year old cat. Several months ago she suddenly snapped and started attacking the dog and the other cat. Took her in to the vet to be told: There's nothing wrong with her. She is healthy and has arthritis.. oh.. and cataracts. She's going blind. They recommended several things and we did them. The Feliway collars worked immediately and for several months in at least making her tolerable. She has been an anxious cat since she was a little kitten, spitting and snarling at us at 8 weeks old when we adopted her. When my husband and I took a week long trip before Kim was born, she huddled under a bed at my inlaws place and refused to eat or use a litter box ... for a WEEK. I didn't know that was possible. Just to illustrate how she is.
Since that time, she has decided more and more, she doesn't want to move from a three x three spot on my desk in front of a window. She loves that window. She has a bed there, which I covered up so she could sleep at night without being upset at everything that moves. Night is the worst. She's fine in full daylight and when the light's on, but in any dim light she's a mess. I read up, and know logically, she's terrified about something attacking her in the darkness every single night. We've had some bad nights where she won't cooperate and go to bed and instead stands on the desk hissing and snarling all night at NOTHING. That can't be a fun existence...
She has not played for years and no amount of trying with her favorite toys interest her. She eats fine, but refuses to eat or drink unless I bring the bowls up onto the desk. That's a new development. I was trying to encourage her to eat and drink on the floor so she would also use the litter box. She no longer comes to us seeking attention. She can't jump up where she used to be able to just months ago and she won't even try now. She doesn't even try to lay on her favorite spot on my bed at night like she used to because she is so afraid and well... I don't really want her there because if I move in the night, she's going to attack me.
I could lock her in a small windowless closet or the bathroom or her crate - so she would be PERFECTLY safe, but she wouldn't like that and neither would I.
She's not happy.
And neither am I. :(

Cleaned Up My FA
Posted 13 years agoOk, went through submissions, cleaned out messages, messaged some people, took care of deleting EVERYTHING that needed to be attended to so it's all nice and clean. :)
NOW, I'm working to get back on a regular schedule for other arts once I'm able to tackle all these commissions. I am closed for Commissions btw and will not likely be opening soon.

Swiftpaw Toy Kickstarter - Please Pass Along ! :)
Posted 13 years agoI was poked that I had neglected to post about my Swiftpaw plush toy Kickstarter! I FORGOT!
In any case, this is Swiftpaw. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8744238/ He comes from the online comic Alien Dice - http://aliendice.com He's a cuddly, skittish blue fox with wings, who's pretty much useless. :D But he's cute and tries to be helpful.
The plush toy is going to be 9-10 inches in size and floppy in the middle and cute. The Kickstarter is to cover the cost of creating it and it's a huge goal of $9K. I'm not really confident it's going to get all the way, but it'll make me feel good if it gets to halfway, even if I don't get anything out of it. I also don't lose anything.
I'm going to make a journal about this as well to easily pass it along, because I intend to use the toys that are left after fulfilling the goals to pay off my daughter's medical debt and get us moving on to stuff regular people get to do by this point in their lives. So participants get a Swiftpaw toy and the knowledge they helped someone at the same time get out from under some crushing medical debt. :D (It's getting better, but I'd like it to finally be GONE.)

Kim Update
Posted 13 years agoJust a little update on my daughter Kim. She had an MRI on Tuesday. It was a sudden, we know you're scheduled for the 17th, but we have an opening tomorrow, type thing. :D Kim was going to go to grandparents to spend Tuesday-Thursday with them, so Monday, I was working very slowly with the thought: Oh, I can pencil tomorrow when Kim isn't here. Until that landed on me.
We went in and spent most of the day at Childrens in Dallas preparing, waiting, MRI time, waiting... waiting for Kim to get over anesthesia, because the MRI machine completely freaks her out. (Last time she had one, you could hear her screaming through several closed doors until they put her under. That was 2009. She was 6.)
The reason for the MRI was that her Echo at the cardiologist the week before was pretty much the same as the one in March when the cardiologist told us that Kim's valve was failing and she was going to need to have it replaced. They wanted to make SURE before they did a more invasive heart cath.
$1,100 to be billed to us later... and we now have confirmation that Kim does NOT need heart surgery for awhile longer. :D So I've spent six months fretting over something that isn't going to happen. :D Well.. at least it's going to be a bit longer.
Kim goes back to school in three weeks. I won't be fully recovered and back on schedule until she's at school, but we no longer have that worry!
Only now, I have a new worry - trying to get a downpayment for a house together between now and when she does have surgery after paying for the new bills, which thankfully are NOT as much as the other procedures would've been. If we don't get a downpayment together ASAP, it will be harder to do in the future and none of us are getting any younger. :D
We're working on getting approval (well, we have 'approval', but need to fill all the paperwork in for buying a house that would be the same as what we pay in rent... with taxes and other fees included. )

Summer Productivity
Posted 13 years agoAs is usual for summer, my productivity took a massive hit after Kim got sick twice, had to go to Southlake to see the cardiologist and various other problems with trying to get work done - thus, I'm EXTREMELY slow right now and very behind in work in general. :(

This Week
Posted 13 years agoSince it's July 4th week, I'm going to be working on things other than standard work. I finished all my comic work for the week after next week last week. Alien Dice, Abby's Agency, Campus Safari, Genoworks Saga - all will be updating.. and... Shivae! will begin updating again the week after next. No comics really slated to update for this week.
On my schedule are THESE things:
Streaming of the last of the Drop-A-Thon pages
New Site Layouts
New Subsite for Campus Safari
Commission work interspersed.
Because it is July 4th this week, my husband is off from the 3rd through the weekend. :D My goodness, he has such a cushy job. I won't stream after that, so will likely hit the Drop-A-Thon pages FIRST. Monday I will be setting my camera up on its new apparatus.

Time for VACATION!
Posted 13 years agoYeah. Vacation. I don't get those. :D This week comics will be updating regularly, but over the 5th of July week nothing will update... probably a bad choice on my part now that I think about it.. ok.. completely SCRATCH what I was going to say. :P
There will not be any updates from July 4th through the 8th. I will be working on the following week's updates THIS week so I can fully concentrate on two things on the July 4th week - finishing the drop-a-thon and various commissions as well as fixing cyantian.net to reflect the return of Genoworks Saga AND Campus Safari. Darius has been removed to a new archive. (The change is that I wasn't going to work this week.. but my husband is off pretty much ALL of next week... and he's distracting! I have a difficult time working when people are around me.)
Tonight I'm zipping up all my 'to be colored' Shivae! pages to Flowerlark - http://www.flowerlarkstudios.com/ She's going to take over coloring responsibilities. :D
Kim is at camp as of 4 hours ago and will be there until Friday, then we pick her up, have her for lunch... and hand her over to grandparents for another week so she can go to Tennessee to see family. :D

Summer!
Posted 13 years agoThis is going to be a REALLY busy summer. In about two weeks, I'll be quickly dismantling http://cyantian.net in preparation to bring back Genoworks Saga AND Campus Safari. These will be full page black and white comics that I will have updating M-F. Well, Genoworks Saga will likely update MWF and Campus Safari Tuesday, THursday and MAYBE Saturday to fulfill the owed extras.
Oh.. and one more thing. There will be an additional set of short stories showing up on http://cyantian.net featuring the cast of Cyantians as cubs. I have several four page stories and then one reallly long one for Vincent... because obviously Vincent isn't getting enough attention, not with people having voted overwhelmingly for me to script and produce Vincent and Filaire's journey, which I may just title: Journey or something along those lines.
I am also almost done inking Cesilee's Diary for Furrlough.
Also on the list... is FINISHING the drop-a-thon, gah. Should not have taken this long, but it's 75% complete. :P And it's at the top of my list along with a few other things.

Last dayfor $30 special
Posted 13 years agoLast day! On June 1st it goes to $35 for a single figure, full shaded/colored, light bg, digital 2 hour piece.
$30 Full color/shaded single fig Comm to go to $35 in June!
Posted 13 years agoI’m open for single character, no bg $30 digital commissions (to go to $35 in June.) $30 inks on A4 Marker paper/9 x 12 bristol, $25 copic/watercolors art cards, $30 copic/watercolors badges/art card badge, $50 copic/watercolors on 6 x 9 canvas board. I also have stores reachable via the store button!
Commissions Open!
Posted 13 years agoWell, they will are open as in, I will be working on them in June and am not accepting payment until I am ready to work on them. I will have a nightly scheduled commission Monday through Friday if I can manage it. I am streaming on http://livestream.com/shivae/ Monday through Friday starting this week for at least a couple of hours in the evening unless I note otherwise.
The current list is here: http://shivae.net/artwork/commission-list/
Commission info: http://shivae.net/artwork/
I'm open for regular digital art, badges, icons, etc. I just ask that you send me a note with your email address and all necessary details so I know what it is before I accept it. :) Please do not pay me and then tell me what you want afterward! (I say that because I do have a $30 special which is a digital piece drawn in stream (you don't have to be there), single figure, light background which is done over an hour to two hours online. Masterflare, Phil, Databank, Hariman and Talin are the only ones allowed to pay and tell me details later at this time. (Mostly because they all just want to see how I interpret the subject and give me very free reign!)
The only special thing to add is, Parou is at the top of my list. As soon as I get some communication back from him, I will push his commission to the front of the list because he's already paid and it's been sitting there awhile. (I'm afraid he has driven his jeep into a hole on walkabout :( :( )

Because I am Paranoid about forgetting Commissions
Posted 13 years agoI keep all of my commissions in One Note and a list on my site.
If you are NOT on the list, please feel free to note me or email me or pester me.
http://shivae.net/artwork/commission-list/ is the list of everything I have on my plate.
I had a recent issue with my laptop in which I had to wipe it, but did not lose my email. It's all on the server at the moment, not sorted as neatly as it had been. I will go digging when I get closer to looking for the three commissions I believe are sitting in there that are 'specials' - that is.. typically one night sessions.
At the moment, I'm only taking commissions if you mind waiting a couple of months. :D I want to work on what I have an whittle down the huge pile to smaller projects, so nothing really huge either.
