Kind of in an art slump. I feel my knowledge of anatomy has degenerated at least a year's worth of practice, and things in general just don't seem to work like they used to. Or maybe they never did.

It's one of those days all music just feels like noise, and every mediocre line I put on my digital canvas gets under my skin. Certainly, looking back at my work a year ago, I have improved. But it's still not enough, and today feels like I'm going backwards. My fear of failure is growing.

Every time I draw something wrong, something ugly, I feel...tainted, and I begin to fear I've been somehow infected by it. Dirt that won't come off.

Give me a hand, throw me a rope. I want to get out of this pit of suck.

I've always been fascinated by these kind of art raffles, because they are such an obvious and shallow quest for popularity, and yet, there seems to be a few of them around most of the time. So maybe they actually work? Also, shallow does not intrinsically mean bad. Rather, it means it will never give you any deeper level of emotional fulfillment, but that doesn't stop it from being fun once in a while.

So let's do a shameless experiment. My watcher count is now at 273, and the rules are as follows.

1. Anyone with an FA account is free to enter this raffle.
2. Post a journal with these six rules, linking to me. Then post a link to that journal below in the comments (so I can keep track of who's in). When these are done, I'll add your name to the list.
3. On Sunday 02.06.11, I will draw 5 names at random from the list, and they will all get one free piece of art.
4. Each drawing will feature one character of the winner's choice, though the setting, pose, attire and all the rest of the details will be up to me. I got my new orders today. I have successfully postponed my military service another year.

Now that it's December, it's time for some slightly disturbing Christmas related trivia. Did you all know that Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of prostitutes?

Puts a whole new perspective on the "Ho, ho, ho" and "Come sit on Santa's lap", doesn't it?

For those of you that don't know, in the country I live in, military service is compulsory to all men between 18 and 28.

When you turn 18, you're summoned before a panel of military officers who tell you when and where you have to serve. In practice, you get to choose where you go, but unless you have a good reason to postpone it (studies, injury, etc.), you'll have to go with the next batch of new recruits. Furthermore, the law says they are well within their rights to ignore my opinion on the matter and make me go wherever and whenever they see fit.

Today, I sent in an application to postpone it for another year. Let's hope it goes through, otherwise it'll be hell from 10th January on for 6 months.

1. I'm bisexual. A lot of people don't know that, mainly since I don't particularly flaunt the fact around. Not that I feel like I have any need to hide it, either...I honestly just don't consider it a big deal.
2. When it comes to what I should write on the internet, I'm quite indecisive. I keep writing these entries and subsequently erasing them, because obviously you don't want to hear about /that/ do you?
3. I'm a gamer, and I'm somewhat worried about the direction the game industry is going. Games are constantly made for younger and younger audiences, which means that they look pretty, but that every little bit of charming complexity of plot, game mechanics or depth of character is sucked out, until you get such abominations as Dead Space. Honestly, the target audience of that game was quite clearly 13 year old boys, yet still it somehow supposedly is K-18. Pshht- it was a disgrace. Where is the respect for the intellect of the gamer?
4. One of my guilty pleasures is listening to songs from Disney movies. |'D
5. I'd love to keep rats some day. They are so expressive and curious and so seemingly intelligent (makes you think maybe Douglas Adams was right after all xD). :> Okay okay, they were mice in the HHGTTG.
6. I'd like to have a penpal, but embarrassingly I'm rather bad at keeping up with email.
7. I'm not shy, but I'm shy-ish sometimes. It's funny how it goes on and off just like that, almost arbitrarily.
8. Some people have dreams that they are dating supermodels or rock stars. I've had two dreams in a row now, where I'm dating webcomic authors.
9. I will never understand watching sports on TV.
10. I will be a comic author. Just you wait.
