Slightly Damaged
Posted 7 years agoHey friends,
Got myself in a bit of an accident at work yesterday. Long story short, I broke my left arm. Good news is that the doctors say I should be well on my way to recovering over the next few weeks. I'm honestly really miffed about the accident beyond the obvious pain and inconvenience though since I was planning on getting a ducttape dummy made up over the next couple weeks. Ah well, guess I just have to keep being patient. Here's hoping everything goes well.
Hope everyone else is doing alright!

AC Debrief Report!
Posted 7 years agoHi all! Dusky here with some after-action reporting from my first ever furry con, Anthrocon. :D
The long and the short of it was that it was an absolute blast. But that's no fun to just leave it at that, so here's what I have to say about my time there:
Spent a good chunk of time during the day handling for my very good friends Oppiz and Blackstar, who I shared a room along with the really pleasant
Kyo_Mizuki and Kali. Aside from an additional roomie who had some frightening snores on the first night, the room was a great bunch and I hope I can hang out with them again soon! For an additional note, I'll be roomed up with Oppiz, Blackstar and Issh again for MFF come November, which I am super amped for. Aaaanyways, I was admittedly a little hesitant around suiters at first but immediately fell in love with it. As such, I'm currently talking with
bluerabbitstudios to bring Dusky to life, which is likely to be done around the end of this year, but hopefully in time for MFF if we're very very lucky.
But anyways! We're talking about AC. So! Aside from the handling for some cool people, I got to meet hang out with a number of very excellent furs as well, many of which are here on this site - please feel free to make yourself known if you spotted me out there and we hung out or maybe you tried finding me and you didn't have the chance to. I'm sure we can hang out at another con coming up.
Big ups to:
Oppiz, Blackstar,
Kyo_Mizuki,
littlecitra, Kali,
Fleeks and the rest of the Burd Crew,
Likeshine,
Gameover_nixie for being the first suiter I hugged and the person who made my first conbadge, SkippyLynn for the awesome badge, Numerous Fursuiters of all stripes, Fox and Peppers and their band, the AC Volunteers and Staff, Condado's Tacos, Nikki's Thai, the City of Pittsburgh, and many more!
That was a great con, and I hope to see you all again same time next year. But hey! I may very well catch you at MFF.

Going to AC!
Posted 7 years agoHey dudes! I'm headed to AC so here's a little info for you to take a gander at:
Where are you staying?
Courtyard Marriott Downtown
What day are you getting there?
Thursday Afternoon, Probably
Who will you be rooming with?
Oppiz Phoenix, his wife, and Three of their mates.
Who will you hang out with during the convention?
Whoever I can come across! Probably going to be hanging around with
Fleeks and the bird crew here and there, but can't say for sure. It's an adventure! :3
What is the best way to find you?
Hard to say! Lol. Just get a hold of me on Telegram if you want to find me! :D
Are there any panels you will be attending?
Maybe. I'm interested in the horror writing workshops but that aside I might not be hanging around the panels too much.
Are you hosting any panels?
Negative.
What do you look like?
Stocky, pale but probably sunburned, ginger, and very likely wearing something flannel/plaid. I'll be posting a "identifying Dusky" pic here soon!
Will you be suiting?
Nope! Though hopefully I'll be making the decision on who I'm going to get a suit made by here at the con. :3
What is your gender?
Male. He/Him or they/them, please.
How tall are you?
5'11"-ish.
Are you mated/in a relationship?
Nope! I'm quite single, but I'm not really looking for people right now.
Can I talk to you?
For sure! Do try to get my attention though, as I'm easily overwhelmed by crowds so I might not hear you at first.
Can I touch you?
Hugs or handshakes are fine. Please avoid touching my hair or head, I had a procedure done up there a few months back so I'd appreciate it if you don't mess with that area.
Can I buy you drinks?
If you'd like. I'm a fan of craft beer and whiskey drinks! Please though, make sure it's either in a sealed container or served directly from a bartender or waitstaff.
Do you smoke/do drugs/drink/vape?
I drink, but that's it. I'm personally averse to smoking and the like. I won't be offended if you do so around me, but please make sure it's in a well-ventilated place if you do so, as smoke sometimes makes my anxiety issues spike up. I'd prefer to keep it at just the drinking though.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
You can ask for a hug! Please don't surprise me, and no snuggles unless I ask. :3
Are you nice?
I'd certainly say so!
How long are you going?
Gonna be there from Thursday until Monday or so.
Will you be going to parties?
Art jams maybe, but parties probably not. Not ruling it out though!
Will you be performing?
Nope.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Go ahead and wave and/or yell for my attention! I'll recognize Dusky. Like I said, crowds make me a little nervous sometimes so I might be a little overwhelmed at first, but if I look like I heard you please try again until I do recognize you. :D
Can I take your picture?
Please ask first! Not sure why I'd be fit to have pictures taken of, but like I said, please ask.
What's your goal(s) for the con this year?
Have a solid first con experience! Meet some cool people, get some neat arts, and whatever else comes my way! :D
Anything to add?
- Please keep yourself clean! The 6-2-1 rule is important!
- Be mindful that I'm currently dealing with some anxiety troubles and still somewhat recovering from a major surgery earlier in the year. It shouldn't be a problem but just something to remember.
Hope to see you guys there! Who's going? ^v^

Checkpoint! - July 2017
Posted 8 years agoHello everyone!
As promised earlier in the year, I'd make an effort to keep in touch here.
So here's where I'm at as of right now:
1. Despite plans and ample practice, I was unable to meet my art goal for the past two months. While this is a bummer, I am on track to make up for lost time in August.
2. My refsheet is a work in progress. I've altered the plan to reflect a new goal of mine, which I'll detail later in the journal.
3. Journalling goals have partially been met, thanks to this. Will work on improving communication.
4. Requests have been partially stalled due to unforeseen workloads. Will attempt to compensate.
Other Updates
So, first things first, I want to open up on the personal front.
Since graduation, I've felt a bit lost as a person, and I really do feel like I'm just kind of wandering around a lot of the time, just barely functioning at full capacity. Work has been emotionally and psychologically draining, and that's on top of some of my more longstanding personal issues kind of coming to a head. What are those issues? Well, for one, my longstanding bout with depression, which once again seeks to mess up my day on a more present level. On top of that, attempts at becoming more body-positive, attempting to engage with the community as a more gender-neutral personality through changes to my fursona, and trying to approach my own sexuality, which is becoming much more fluid than my originally-rigid hetero stance and leaning more in the direction of bisexuality, in a more positive and healthy way. It's a struggle, but I'm maintaining, so don't worry. I'll let everyone know if something is going very wrong, or large-scale changes are in order. But as of right now, just assume that the ship is steady - albeit in some somewhat rocky waters.
And next, the new goal:
As I work on my refsheet, I've come to realize that one of my main strengths lie in character design. So, in order to capitalize on that, I'm going to attempt to create a series of strata of complexity and begin providing my services for character design here, in hopes of helping to bring other peoples' fursonas to life more easily. It's still a somewhat nebulous goal as of this time, but I'll be sure to make a proper announcement when I'm prepared to roll out my idea.
Okay, so I think that's it for now.
Please do keep in touch, friends, I miss ya!
Much love,
Red

Summer 2017 - The Plan
Posted 8 years agoHello friends!
I've become aware of a sorta-recent glut of watchers. Thanks for visiting my humble page! I know there's not a whole lot around for you to look at, but trust me, there'll be plenty in time.
You may remember I took on a number of headshot requests back in late March - unfortunately, I had to set that to the wayside due to commitments at work and in my final weeks of university. Though I've graduated, I'm not likely to see much of the leisure time I'll now have access to until far into the year. Thus, I've had to basically reevaluate my priorities, and unfortunately, my capacity to start making quality artwork is lessened under current conditions.
However! My plan for the summer does include creative exploits. So here's my goals for the rest of June, July, and August, just in case I don't have a chance to talk again:
1. Finish Refsheet of Red
2. Complete Headshots from March, in order of Request
3. Create at least one completed work outside of requests per month
4. Publish a Journal Entry on All Platforms at least once Monthly
At the end of August, I'll publish another journal evaluating my creative progress, and where I'm at in the fandom.
Let's see how this goes!

Happy Easter, Ya Weirdos!
Posted 8 years agoHappiest of Easters to ye, friends.
I'm hard at work putting together those four requests made earlier last week - as of Sunday/today, I've got the linearts all wrapped up, and I'm going to be coloring them throughout the week. Of course, these being requests and my schedule being comprised mostly of insane project workloads and regular work as I wrap up uni and prep for graduation, it might take a hot second to actually accomplish.
Take care, and be wary of ovipositing rabbits!

Posted 8 years agoHey there friends! Super rad artist
saetia is doing some charity work to help improve the lives of animals living in shelters, and helping along the process of finding them their forever homes. Go check it out and donate, even if you have just one dollar you're willing to spare! She's also running some promotions to help entice you to do so, if you'd like.
Here's the artist's original journal, which has all the information on the above stuff.
Guys! You know I work for an amazing animal shelter as my Real Job. In my Pretend Job, which is drawing talking dogs, I have almost 10,000 watchers. If everyone donated a dollar that would mean literally hundreds of real animal lives improved and saved. Can you imagine the impact?
If you donate and comment here, you'll get your very own hug and compliment!
If you share on your page, I'll pull a tarot card for you from my personal deck. Let me know in the comments.
I'm definitely not doing a raffle, FA.. but maybe I'll pick somebody randomly and they'll coincidentally get some free unrelated but totally awesome art?!
All I ask you to do is not to think "Eh.. someone else will." That is lazy and my watchers are BETTER than that. The reason I do my work is that if I don't, who else?
Your dollar has actual meaning and real world impact.

Setting up the Base Camp. (Updates+More)
Posted 8 years agoGood afternoon, friends!
I'm putting this up as mostly a reminder to myself to actually go forth and complete some creative goals for this week. Once it's here, it's effectively a challenge - and I'm much to proud to screw this up anymore. So here we go.
This Week's Priorities
1. Have New Icon for Updated Fursona Ready by 4/5/2017. [Completed 4/4]
2. Upload Refsheet Materials for Fursona Ready for Digital Edit by 4/7/2017.
3. Create One Additional, Non-Fursona Related Piece uploaded to FA and Other Art Sites by 4/8/2017.
4. Have Account(s) Fully re-activated and prepared to take on creative orders by 4/8/2017. [Completed 4/5]
I've got a full schedule ahead of me this week, and I can't wait to try and get relevant again. Lol. If you're still out there, and waited to see if I'd show up again, I appreciate your tenacity. I have a lot to learn from you!
Also, this is where I guess I should say that my fursona will now be going by 'Red'. More updates on this version of my character as we go through the week.
Thanks,
Red

2017 - Let's Try This Again
Posted 8 years agoHey there everyone who still remembers me!
I know it's been quite some time since I visited, but I'm slowly beginning to reintegrate myself into the fandom and creative pursuits as my final months at university start winding down.
However, after some soul-searching, I've begun to feel the need for a bit of a hard reset on my creative presence. I continually find that I'm not quite the same person I was when I became a furry all the way back in 2009, and I need to begin separating myself from prior iterations of myself if I really want to feel as if I'm moving forward as much as I actually am.
I'll be starting to rebuild my presence once a few major assignments pass, and I have time to make a few submissions to restart with. While I'm starting to consider having my primary account outside of FA, I do plan on maintaining myself here to at least some degree.
Stay tuned, friends.
And hey, thanks for sticking around, despite my silence.

Fursona Meme!
Posted 10 years agoOh wow! Two journals in one day. That's a rarity. XD
(Nabbed from
nlorier)
• What is the name of your fursona?
Ziggy Moray, though he's often called "Sketch".
• Where did the name of your Fursona come from?
Sketch was the original name of my fursona. It was kind of a symbolic thing, considering that my personality is but a sketch. It's an incomplete idea, still developing constantly. The full name, Ziggy Moray, came a bit later. "Ziggy" was a shortening of Sigma, which was actually the name of my first fursona. This came from my interest in cryptozoology and mysterious places I had back in my earlier days as a fur, as Sigma is/was(?) a town in Central Michigan that simply doesn't exist. It's registered on state maps and everything, but if you were to go there, there isn't anything around. Some people believe that the area became home to a pack of werewolf-like beings we in Michigan call the Dogman, which spooked the residents of Sigma away. I adopted it as my fursona's name because I wanted my character, at the time, to be something different, like I was exploring something with this character. Plus, this first character to bear the name was an arctic wolf. Ha! The "Moray" bit came as result of my looking through my family history, which led me back to Northern Scotland, where some of my earliest known ancestors were the Morays, highland nobles living there in the early middle ages. I added that part to my name to channel their legacy of stirring up trouble by speaking their mind and hanging on to their ideals when they were contested. While my other side of my family was traced back to renaissance Prussia, I always felt a bit more connection to my Celtic ancestors more than anything.
• What species is your fursona and why did you choose that species?
Sketch is a bull. I chose that species because I wanted a creature that was tied more intrinsically to the land (due to my interest in sustainability and farming), was generally calm and friendly unless provoked, and was ballsy when need be. Seemed an admirable mix of qualities.
• What color is your fursona and why? Hair/fur/eye/ect
He has a pale yellow hide that covers most of his body, though there is a more taupe shade which occupies his lower torso, inner thighs and pelvic region, as well as around his eyes. There is a dark, coffee-brown shade that tapers off from his hands, hooves, ears, and muzzle. His hair atop both his head and at the tip of his tail is red, as in the hair tone. His eyes are a pale blue. There isn't much a reason for the pelt, admittedly, but the hair color and the eye color are like my own. Haha.
• What is your fursona's personality and how does this compare to your RL personality?
Sketch is a very sociable, albeit snarky fella. He's exuberant and expressive, an optimist with a pessimist's wit. He's an amplified version of myself, and one where my anxieties and shyness don't get the better of me. XD
• What is one item your fursona owns that is significant to you in RL?
You haven't seen any artwork of him with it yet, but Sketch, like myself, has a black leather notebook with celtic designs on it. In the real world, it's where I put my little worldbuilding notes in for my writing projects. For him, it's a bit more magical in nature. More on that later!
• What is one thing you think you would say to your fursona if you could meet?
I'd ask him to come talk with me over some coffee. Maybe he'd have some ideas for my stories! XD
• How has your fursona changed over the years?
I actually started off as a cat back in 2009, and then changed over to an arctic wolf until about 2011. Sketch showed up later that year, but I've waffled between several different fursonas from then until about the middle of 2015, Sketch being the primary one. At first, Sketch was purely white, kind of an altered version of the wolf character I used to be, but I've made him into the braunvieh-inspired character he is today in an effort to make him stand out a bit more, and to make it look more visually striking if/when I nab a fursuit. I guess the biggest change is that I stopped really thinking of Sketch as a full extension of myself, and began seeing him as more of a version of myself that I could try and reach for.
• How long have you had this fursona?
As I was saying, Sketch's earliest forms appeared about 2011-2012 or so. I've been using him on and off ever since. However, as of about October this past year, I've decided he's my permanent fursona.
• Would you like to be more like your fursona?
You better believe it. :3
(Nabbed from
nlorier)• What is the name of your fursona?

NEED TITLES, PLS HALP. (Updates, etc.)
Posted 10 years agoI'm a little more than psyched right now, considering I've gotten my first commissioned piece in oh, two years, I think. That, and I'm doing requests again. It's good to have people depending on my stuff being done; really gives me the extra push to make things happen in a timely manner. *ahem* Well, I guess I best keep everyone posted on what's up!
Also, I'm changing up my format to just show what's immediately coming up in the week I release these journals, that way I don't find myself stretched too thin. This is more since I'm pushing my personal stuff off to the side for now considering I've got a couple deadlines I'd like to meet.
COMMISSIONS
Eldritch-Blade (on
tailsrefuge) - Fully Detailed Character, Moderate-Level BG
Status: Flat Colors completed, awaiting detailing.
Estimated Completion: 3-4 Days.
REQUESTS
kdrj4402 - Simple Character and BG
Status: In queue.
Estimated Completion: 5-6 Days.
PERSONAL ART
The Primal Beat (Multi-Part TF Story)
Status: In Progress.
Estimated Completion: 1 Week (approx.)
In other news, this winter's been going pretty well thus far. Went ice fishing the other day and got me a decent catch. Back on campus and ready to get everything out of th way so I can be creative again!
Aaaaand that's it, for now, anyways. Thanks for following me, chaps!

Yaaaay College! (Updated)
Posted 10 years agoCollege is back in session, and I find myself with not much to do of importance in mornings anymore. This is kind of weird for me, considering I've worked at a place that oft has me on site before 7:00am. However, my inability to change my sleep schedule means that I actually have a reasonably good amount of time in a day to crank out some new artwork. Hopefully, this means I can start setting reachable goals for putting out some artwork on a regular basis. Anyways, I'm pretty amped to have this kind of chance to improve my craft. I intend to use it, provided the universe doesn't throw me for a curve again. XD
Anyways! Here's what I'm up to:

earlybirdTIME TO DO THINGS! (Updates n' Such)
Posted 10 years agoHappy belated New Years', Christmas, and whatever else I missed! XD
This moo has been a busy fella lately. To spare you and me the long story that was 2015, it was kind of a mess. Haha. That aside, I'm getting back into the swing of things, and I've resolved to make being an active member of the furry community one of my major goals for the year. I need to keep exerting my creative muscles if I want to be at my best, and this is the best way for me to do it. :D
I'll be going back to university in a couple days, so I'll actually start having more significant amounts of time to accomplish this goal. Here's hoping that the universe allows me to follow through on that. I'm hoping to not just get some art published, but also to be a diligent commissioner and frequenter of furmeets and stuff. If all goes well, I might even make it to a con or two! I've never been before, so it's a pretty exciting prospect for me right now. As I said just a second ago, I'm really hoping that I can actually go through with my plans here.
Anyways, I was looking to start doing the regular updates I started doing a ways back again. It was a helpful tool for getting me to stay on track and keep current, and it was a stupid move to stop doing them. Okee, here goes!

The Story Continues!
Posted 10 years agoAhhhh, it feels good to be working with a tablet again.
If you haven't noticed, I actually managed to make myself a new icon today. Probably just going to be a placeholder for the time being, I can make something a little nicer later. It was actually part of a larger piece, but since my scanner is down, I had to upload the sketch via my phone. D:
Super amped to be doing creative stuff again though.
More coming soon!

And We're Live.
Posted 10 years agoHey, chaps!
Back From The Dead, Once Again. Ugh, am I disappointed in myself this year.
Looks like college and work and life in the non-furry world has once again gotten the better of me. Apologies, guys. But I'm back, and, as with my other previous attempts, I want to try and make my stay a tad bit more permanent. Not gonna lie to you, I was considering up and leaving the site for a good while there. It's been kind of straining lately. Blah.
Anyways, I've got good news and I've got bad news. The good news is that I actually have a backlog of stuff I need to upload. The bad news is that my scanner is offline for the time being and my tablet gave up on me. Other good news, I've shifted my focus more towards writing as of late, so maybe I'll just carry on as a different kind of furry. Who knows? I think that some of the stuff I'm working on has a bit of promise. Here's hoping it works out.
Fingers crossed,
Sig

New Year, New Approach (Please Read)
Posted 11 years agoHey all! Sig here. Happy new year to you all!
This year I'm going to be kicking my art into high gear. And by that, I mean more that three submissions a year. More specifically, I plan on being more active in the community both artistically and socially. I know I've done these things in the past, but I can assure you guys that this time, I've got most all the kinks worked out schedule-wise. While I know I'm going to have to cut down my submission count in the summertime, I'm going to be gunning for high consistency, quantity, and quality of output. I know at this point that it was my own laziness more than anything that stopped me from being the best I could, though technical trouble was a bigger issue over the last few months. I plan on taking things a lot more seriously this year in terms of my product.
Here's my plan.
1 - At least one submission a week, and at least one completed and detailed submission every two weeks.
2 - At least one journal entry every two weeks.
3- Start taking limited numbers of commissions by the end of the year.
And that's all I think I need to say on that front.
Don't forget that requests are always open. I'd really like to do stuff for the few good friends and fans I have. :3

Remember Me?
Posted 11 years agoHey everyone.
I know a ways back I talked about trying to be more consistent and all that. So I owe it to the few of you who follow me loyally to know what's going on.
My computer completely failed not too long ago. Everything was lost in the process. I was working on several long-term projects as well as some other short-term visual work at the time, but now, it appears I've lost all of those due to a total failure of my hard drive. I had been working on a book for NaNoWriMo, and that was also lost.
In short, I did a whole lot for nothing.
But fear not, I'm going to be moving forward from there as soon as I can.
I'm still working to restore my computer's capabilities and settings to work best with me, so it's going to be a little while before I can start producing digitally again. Plus, finals are right around the corner, so my energies will have to be devoted elsewhere for the next couple weeks. After that, I dunno. Hopefully, work won't completely disregard me as a human being, but I'll be devoting a lot of my free time to being creative.
Hope you guys are along for the ride. I've got some pretty wild plans for my gallery.
Please just let me know in the comments if you've read this. I really would like to know who's sticking around so I can properly reward you for your loyalty.
Thanks,
Ryan

A Question for ya.
Posted 11 years agoHeyo! Sig here. Guess I should probably get back into journalling online more often n' such.
Not much to report today, just this little quandary.
Here's a question for my fellow creative-types.
In something I've been starting to put together for NaNoWriMo this year, there's...well...these entities, I guess you could call them. They're the main antagonists of sorts. They came into the universe the story takes place in via "gaps in the fence" between their universe and the one the story actually happens in. They're more or less between worlds, and they can't communicate to any of the characters or "extras".
So that's where the problem lies. How do you describe, or even have characters comprehend something that they can't understand? How would I be able to have them rationalize them and their motives? Anything else I should probably think about?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Character Meme! Argh!
Posted 11 years agoThis meme is said in character. While there's a lot of things me and my fursona have in common, there's some that doesn't line up exactly. Maybe you can pick the differences and similarities apart. But that's all up to you to find out.
Anyways, enjoy this little exploration into my character, Sketch. :D
(Best read with a light Irish accent. Haha.)
What is your name?
My name be Zeyoik CorT'fez. However, you can call me by the name my friends call me, Sketch the Ginger.
Do you know why you were named that?
Zeyoik roughly means "Kingly" or some rubbish like that in the common speak. We still hold on to the old Dennic Language in these parts, yes. It's to my assumption that my fellow T'fez figured me some great leader of people to be. Ha! Authority and types like myself don't typically meld well.
Single or taken?
Painfully single. I've written more poems than are probably healthy on the subject.
Have any abilities or powers? If you don't have any, what would you like to have?
One could say I've got a certain power over the written word. Of course, I don't believe it. Haven't found enough patrons amongst the people of Den to validate it. But at the same time, I've noticed that I have a sort of unexplainable, unnatural charm that can get to people's heads. I have some kind of way of projecting myself that I can't entirely understand. Not yet, at least.
What's your eye color?
Blue, like the color of river water under thick ice in the wintertime.
How about hair color?
Red, like the color of the sun halfway through its setting.
Any other defining features?
Nothing too much to note. My fur is as white as it can be, and I haven't found a hand worthy of marking it with pictures in ink for the rest of my days.
Have you any family members?
Plenty. The T'Fez clan has no lack of numbers, though I've heard some of the co-heirs I left behind have been departing the family as well. The clanmaster, Joc, was never a very pleasant fellow. He had a particular issue with fellows who aren't of pure Middle-Rucian decent, myself included. When he found that his daughter had ran off with a fella out of the Bannan-Country south of here, he kicked her from the clan entirely. I haven't had contact with much any of them for a while, save for my mum, the only sensible person in the whole of the clan.
Oh? How about pets?
I wish. I've always fancied having a housecat.
That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.
You guess? Ha. Well, I don't like indecision! XD
Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
I like to write, mainly. I've also enjoyed a good swim with my friends out in the lake and in the hot springs beneath the city and walks through forests outside town alone.
Have you ever hurt anyone in any way before?
Aye, sadly so. I was an immature and callous fella for the longest time. I only lately discovered my nasty habits and did something about 'em right quick. I hurt too many people too close to me to not do anything. I just hope I've learned from my mistakes.
On a lighter note, there was this other time that someone was trying to make fun of me for my work as a poet, so I right clobbered him upside the head with my walking stick. He didn't see that one coming, no sir. Haha!
Ever… killed anyone before?
Oh, never. There's no honor to be found in taking life from another fella, not even on a battlefield. I'd sooner have my own life taken than take one myself.
What kind of animal are you?
Well, I'm what's called a Rucian. I guess from your frame of reference, we're something like cattle in terms of appearance. Horns, big leathery noses, hooves, and a certain excess of greens in their diets, save for the fact that we're well adapted for operating underwater too. We've got secondary eyelids that can help us see underwater, as well as thicker, longer tails to steer and lungs that can hold air for quite a fair bit of time. I'm a solid swimmer under the waves, but the longest I've been under has been a solid five and a half minutes, but I've heard that some of the fishermen who go down into the bay just at the edge of town can go under for ten minutes or more a breath.
Name your worst habits.
Speaking my mind when it probably ought to be quiet, being quiet when things ought to be said, and especially, eating more often than I ought to.
Do you look up to anyone at all?
Aye. My friends. They're more honorable and able than I. I'm just a writer and a town nut, so to speak. Haha!
Are you gay, straight, or bisexual?
I'm straight, according to your vernacular.
Do you go to school?
Indeed! I attend a university a bit north of my home city. Lovely place.
What do you do for a living?
I wish it was that I was an author. But growing and selling fruits seems to work out a little better.
Ever want to marry and have kids one day?
Aye. I want to start a clan of my own. One free of all the pretentiousness and spitefulness of the one I came from.
What are you most afraid of?
Being forgotten entirely.
What do you usually wear?
I usually like to dress fancily, but in a non-extravagant manner. If I'm going to have to wear something, I might as well look nice! Oftentimes, I wear long-necked sweaters and a dark, plain-colored kilt. Though in private, I prefer to be free of clothes.
What's one food that tempts you?
I love apples. I'm picky about 'em, but I can't get enough of them.
What class are you (low class, middle class, high class)?
Oh, I suppose I'm just a tad bit north of middle. I get by comfortably, but I'm by no means wealthy. A man only needs so much gold. All the rest is just showing off.
How many friends do you have?
Not many. I'm sure there are plenty of people who call themselves my friends, but I'm not sure if there's as many who I can, without a doubt, call my friends too.
What are your thoughts on pie?
A delicious and hearty food that ought to be had as often as it can be.
Favorite drink?
A good, hot cup of mint tea.
What's your favorite place?
My armchair next to the fireplace in the commons of the dormitory back up at the university.
Are you interested in anyone~?
I want to be.
What's your type?
A loyal, wholly loving person who doesn't need you in the slightest, but chooses to stay around simply because they want nothing but to be around you.
Any fetishes?
Well, I wouldn't know enough to say. Haha! Nothing on the weird side really. All I know for sure is that I like a woman who's got contours and shape and well...body, I s'pose. No especially bony ones for me, no sir.
Camping or indoors?
I enjoy both.
What's your favorite time of the year?
The middle of the autumn, when all the trees are lit up like fires in the sunlight, but it's only cold enough to need a scarf and an overcoat at best.
What's your worst memory?
The day I fled my clan. I never said goodbye. I just left a note at the door saying that there was no place for me there.
Your best?
My first time out with my first love.
What's your greatest achievement or defining moment?
Writing my first whole story. It's a shame that I could never get it sent to the printers. They weren't in the mood for my fantastical fables at that point in time.
What about your biggest regret?
Letting myself grow distant from everyone I knew because I was afraid I couldn't trust them. I wish I could say sorry to everyone I used to know and even the ones who came back...but it's so hard to make up for going away so quietly and for so long.
What kind of shows, movies, or music do you like?
When it comes to the movies and telly, I do like the stories that are just a little bit dark, maybe a little supernatural or fantastical. Nothing explicitly meant to make you scream like a schoolgirl though! Just...eerie, I guess you could say.
As for music, I like the kind that blends together computer music with actual instruments being played. Such a curious and wonderful sound, especially live and in concert!
What are your lifelong goals?
All I want to do is be remembered for doing something good. I pray that it's by way of my skillful pen, but I'll take whatever I can get to make that renown reach me.
Are you a leader or a follower?
I really dunno how to answer that. I don't see people in terms of how they fit into a group. I see people in this fashion: does life happen to them, or do they happen to life? We're all a bit of both when it comes down to it.
How would you describe yourself?
Just a simple fella with dreams bigger than himself.
How do others describe you?
Strangers would say I'm a bit of a dandy and an oddity. My clan would say I'm a rebellious fool with no respect for things beyond myself. My friends would say that I'm a generally nice fella who only wants other people to be happy but can't seem to make himself happy in the process.
How do you handle criticism?
Pretty well, provided it's valid.
What advice would you like to give the world?
Many a story is yet to be written. Many more are yet to be told. Find meaning in it as it makes sense to you.
What motivates you?
Making the lives of others more enjoyable.
Are you lucky?
It's all in perception. I suppose I perceive that I am at the moment.
What's your deepest, darkest secret?
I oftentimes find myself jealous of everything about women. I'm mad that I'm always stuck dealing with all the pleasantries and pointless social rules that the men of this society have to put up with. I suppose the ladies too have to endure such madness. But from the outside, it just looks so much more pleasant to be them.
Do you have any pet peeves?
Empty mailboxes, inconsiderate people, and fruit that looks perfect from the outside but tastes like dirt on the inside.
Let's get controversial for a moment. Are you religious?
I believe that there are spirits of all kinds around us and that that we join 'em eventually. There are kings and rulers on this plane, so I could believe that there's some fella who watches over everything on the other side of the door too.
Political?
I stand for people and people alone. You could say I'm not a big fan of governments and big orders that tell people they've never met or even know the names of what to do with their lives. But I'll lend a hand to any group that intends to rule by ruling as least they can.
Do you have any vices?
Plenty. Most of it stems from the fact that I'm temperamental and moody most all the time, even though I don't notice it or mask it behind laughs and smiles. I try my best to not let it get the best of me, but sometimes I just can't control myself.
Do you have a treasured possession?
I've got this pocketwatch that I was intending on giving to my first love. I was never able to get it to her, as she left me the day I meant to. The funny thing is, the clock hands quit working. It's been frozen in time for quite a while. I took it to mean that time doesn't mean much unless it's shared with people you care about. I've been trying my hardest to take that lesson to heart. I always carry that old beat-up thing around me to remind me.

I Find Myself Overcumbered...
Posted 11 years ago...With many new drawings!
That's right, chaps. I'm back in the swing of things at last.
Sorry I haven't been updating you guys in an eternity, as I've been quite busy and decided to let my art speak for itself for a while. Well, guess it'd be rude if I didn't slap up another one of these journals now and again.
SOOOOO I'm going to try out that whole regular journal posting thing again, except I'm going to put more emphasis on my artwork rather than just being present.
Hope you enjoy the material to come! I rather like what I've got coming your way. :D

A Question for you guys.
If you guys have been following me at all lately, you'll notice that I've made a few quick headshots of my fursona and of Julie as well. I'm trying to adapt to drawing quickly and with quality on my tablet, so I'm looking for some willing volunteers to help me accomplish that. Anyone want me to make them up an icon or something? These icons will be free of charge, considering that they aren't going to be the best stuff in the world. Comment or note me if you'd like to grab a quick headshot.

Weekly Update #1 - 6/7/14: Back to Business.
Posted 11 years agoHey guys! This is Rufus again.
I'm now attempting to make an effort to not suck at being an active furry artist. Well, okay. This is my second or third attempt at the matter. But the thing is that this time I have something I didn't have beforehand. And that would be a plan. XD
If you're an active watcher of mine, I'd like you guys to read this over so you can tell me if I'm actually holding up to this. I want it to be less of an abstract set of guidelines and more of a promise to you guys that somehow decided to stick around.
And now,
Le Plan:
1. Draw more often. As in more than once a week. I don't enjoy this whole working from square one thing every month.
2. Complete and publish said drawings. One of the issues I've been facing lately is that the handful of things I've been working on for the longest time wound up going unfinished because I wound up having to put up with other commitments.
3. Engage with my watchers and the furry community at large. I want you guys to think of me as a friend or at least someone you can socialize with. I'm part of a really neat fandom and I feel like I haven't been making good use of it.
4. Commission people and take commissions. If I want to engage the community, I need to engage in the commercial end of things. Plus, it gives me a good reason to keep being my current fursona. Which is, as I decided a while back, Rufus the kangaroo. Plus, I want to feel like I'm bringing something to the table for once instead of just lurking about in the background.
5. Update my fracking refsheet. It looks kind of gross. Ugh. On that note, does anyone know anyone who's taking commissions for refsheets?
6. Weekly updates weekly! 'Nuff said.
7. Go through on all the above items.
Like I said, if you guys could help me follow through on my plan, that would be pretty sweet.
That's it for now. Have an excellent week! :D
