The Snake
Posted 3 months agoBy Martin Espada
At the Save America rallies, after the damnation of the criminal aliens breaking across our borders and 1,900 percent more murders, he would ask the crowds if he could read a poem. This has to do with immigration, he’d say. The crowds would whoop and yip. He’d read “The Snake,” words stolen from a song, from the hand of a dead Black singer who could not snatch it back, a jazz fable spun on vinyl, a tale from the fabulist of Greece centuries before Christ.
The crowds would listen to the poem: Bikers for Trump, Cops for Trump, Uncle Sam in his beard, the Statue of Liberty in her crown, the millionaire who sells pillows on TV. They would testify in T-shirts that said Jesus is my savior, Trump is my president. They would hoist the Stars and Bars or signs that rhymed: Trump 24 or before. They would see the movie of the poem in their heads:
The snake frozen on the road, the woman scooping him up tight to nurse him with milk and honey by the fire, the incandescence of his skin brought back to life, the woman’s kiss and the viper’s venomous bite, her question why, then the words oozing from his tongue: You knew damn well I was a snake before you took me in. The crowds would howl at the moral, at the punch line, at the tender woman who would die of tenderness. Like a preacher spelling out the lesson of a parable, their president would repeat: Immigration.
As they slept—the bikers and the cops, Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty, the millionaire on his magic pillow—adolescents from Guatemala scalded the killing floors at the slaughterhouse in Grand Island, Nebraska, their hoses like snakes spewing rivers that bubbled in the steam. Around them, the blades of skull splitters and bone saws waited for their fingers to slip, fangs lurking in the murk of early morning, in the daze behind the goggles on the faces of adolescents from Guatemala, sleeping the next day at Walnut Middle School, shaken awake by teachers who spotted the acid burns on their hands.
The fable that Martin Espada refers to here comes from Aesop, and is called The Farmer and the Snake.
The song that Espada mentions was written by Al Wilson, and taken from an album called Tells it like it is! from 1963 by the brilliant Oscar Brown Jr. Everything he does is great, and I'd strongly suggest seeking it out. My personal favorite album from him is Between Heaven and Hell.

Rashid Khalidi Decides He Can No Longer Teach At Columbia
Posted 3 months agoFirst, from the headlines of today's Democracy Now!:
https://www.democracynow.org/2025/8.....iated_hostages
-Some videos released by Hamas and Islamic Jihad and meant to illustrate that by starving Gaza they were also starving the Israeli hostages have ironically been twisted by Netanyahu and the press into being illustrations of Hamas and Islamic Jihad abusing the hostages and used as an excuse for ramping up the war on Gaza, saying that it was Hamas who wasn't willing to engage honestly in cease fire talks, when It's Israel who pulled out of the talks and Hamas has always been consistent about their demands, which are for a permanent ceasefire and Israel pulling out of Gaza. Israel also claimed that one man depicted was digging his own grave, but does anybody really believe that they bury people in the tunnels? I have to at least doubt that.
Netanyahu isn't fooling the families of the hostages in Israel, though. Tens of thousands of people showed up to their most recent protest in support of their demand of Netanyahu to engage in a cease fire because they know it's the only way they'll be able to assure the rest of the hostages are returned safely.
Increasing numbers of other people and groups within Israel are also recently calling for an end to the war.
On Khalidi's decision to no longer teach at Columbia:
https://www.democracynow.org/2025/8.....ducation_trump
His Guardian article on this:
www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2.....id-khalidi-open-letter
More from Khalidi on Palestine:
https://www.democracynow.org/2025/8....._gaza_genocide
-Khalidi Mentions Ben-Gvir's leading of a large group to the Al Aqsa Mosque to prey there illegally, in a deeply disrespectful and provocative action. Khalidi didn't mention that while there, Ben-Gvir called for Israel to occupy Gaza.
Also, Today Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, a Christian Zionist, became the highest government official to ever visit a settlement in the West Bank amidst growing settler violence, where he said that "Those lands are the rightful property of the Jewish people. Even if the world thinks otherwise, we stand with you", referring to them as Judea and Samaria, as Zionists are wont to do. Never mind that the settlements are considered illegal under international law.

I came across this podcast fairly recently. It does pretty much what you'd expect. Its Jewish hosts and their guests make fun of and debunk bad hasbara.
A frequent cohost is Daniel Maté, son of the amazing Dr. Gabor Maté, who has deeply studied addiction and Trauma, and applied the knowledge he's gained from this study to helping people deal with these things:

Ex GHF Contractor Exposes The Truth About The GHF
Posted 3 months agoPlease read, listen to, or watch this. It's an explosive and detailed takedown of what the G"H"F is doing from someone who was recruited to subcontract with them to provide security. and expertise. He quit because he found that he had deep moral qualms about what they were doing, then they claimed that they'd fired him:
https://www.democracynow.org/2025/7.....ghf_war_crimes
His name is Anthony Aguilar, and he's the guy who shot the video that I highlighted here:
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/11171569/
I will point out one unclear thing in what he says here; razor wire IS the same thing as concerina wire. It's designed to ensnare people and tear their flesh, but isn't very likely to kill anyone by itself.
And then there's this moron that I heard on NPR's Morning Edition today:
https://www.keranews.org/2025-07-29.....nocide-in-gaza
-Amazing. Boy, would I love to debate this idiot. Practically everything he says is an obvious lie. It's hard to know whether people like this are just completely brainwashed, lying, or both.
I'd also like to mention here that airdropping in a handul of pallets of food isn't going to do shit, other than hurting people, for instance the eleven people wounded in a tent encampment yesterday, and like France and Britain recognizing a Palestinian state while at the same time sending parts for F35s and similar things to israel is just purely performative nonsense done for the already Israeli biased corporate press.

Israel Is STILL Starving People In Gaza
Posted 3 months agohttps://www.democracynow.org/2025/7.....aza_starvation
https://www.democracynow.org/2025/7.....ndala_abducted
Yesterday about two to two and a half truckloads of food were airdropped into Gaza, and they let 70 trucks in, at least some of which ended up being looted by armed gangs, which Netanyahu recently admitted to supporting and arming. Of course they'll blame Hamas for this, as they always do. This is just a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed, as the UN has said.
What is really needed is a ceasefire, but Netanyahu won't support that.
At least nine people were murdered by the IOF attempting to access food.
At least 14 more people died of hunger.
Netanyayu denied that Israel is starving the people of Gaza, or that anyone is starving there at all.
When asked recently in Scotland if he agrees with the Israeli government’s assessment that there’s no starvation in Gaza, Trump replied, “Not particularly.” He said he’s seen them on TV, and those children look very hungry. He added that the U.S. is giving a lot of money to support the aid effort in Gaza. He recently was interviewed and said the U.S. had given $60 million in aid. “Where was the 'thank you'?”
-"They look very hungry" just may be the understatement of the century, and just who is he expecting to thank him, the Palestinians being murdered while attempting to get food?

The ceasefire talks were called off today by the US and Israel once again for the usual reasons: Israel won't agree to permanently end their war on Gaza or agree to permanently pull out, Of course they blame Hamas for "Not acting in good faith". Hamas has been extremely consistent in their demands. It's Israel who keeps moving the goalposts.
Israel also voted today to annex the West Bank.
In a gratuitous act of cruelty, Israel recently forbade anyone in Gaza from going into the ocean under the threat of being shot:
http://www.npr.org/2025/07/24/nx-s1.....access-in-gaza
The official number of dead in Gaza is now nearing 60,000, but that only counts those who've been taken to a hospital, had their identities confirmed, and been matched with the list of the population. The real number of dead as a result of Israel's genocide is of course far higher. I'd guess that 200,000 is a conservative number, and Ralph Nader puts it at over 500,000.
The number of people murdered by the Israelis trying to get food is now over 1000. Over 100 were killed two days ago trying to get flour from a truck in Northern Gaza. As always, Israel says that they were "Just shooting over their heads". -They sure must have crappy aim. They seem to be making a game of this. One day it's head shots, the next shots to the chest, the next shots to the balls.
Tent camps are being targeted with rockets.
People, particularly infants and kids, are now dying of hunger and thirst in increasing numbers every day. Doctors are literally having baby formula taken away from them when entering Gaza, so no one can say that Israel isn't purposefully starving babies.
Fuel is running out, shuttung down pumps for water wells and sewage, as well as shutting down desalinization plants, and making it impossible to run critical equipment in what remains of Gaza hospitals.
People are passing out from hunger in the streets. Doctors are passing out during operations.
Imagine that you're a kid growing up in Gaza today. Seeing dead bodies is not uncommon. You may even see them being eaten by dogs. You're surrounded by the constant stench of death and sewage, and the constant buzz of quadcopter drones, which you know are always watching you, and could shoot you any time.
You feel constant hunger and thirst. Your growth is being stunted, and you may suffer from permanent learning disabilities and brain damage, should you survive. If you are wounded, you won't be able to heal You're susceptible to all kinds of disease, and since you're so malnouished, you're far more likely to die from it. You and everyone around you are permanently traumatized.
Meanwhile, there seems to finally be some momentum building in the West to call for an end to the GHF and the allowing for UNRWA to immediately be able to feed the people of Gaza, and more and more people around the world are calling for ending the arming of Israel and enforcement of International and domestic laws against humanitarian and war crimes and genocide, and calling for sanctions on them. Emmanual Macron has said that France will recognize Palestine beginning in September. DAWN, which was begun by Jamal Khashoggi, has called for the UN to establish an international protective force in Gaza and immediate access to food.
But it's long past time for pretty words. We need immediate action to end this brutal genocide.
*Update of 7/26:
There are now plans to airdrop food into Gaza. This is ridiculous. Why not just start letting trucks in? There are thousands of them just waiting to be let in, and they would never amount to more than a drop in the bucket. It's purely performative, just like the failed floating pier was. Some may remember what happened last time they tried that. People were killed by the falling pallets of food, and were drowned when they landed in the ocean. You may also imagine the mayhem that will inevitably ensue when a pallet of food is dropped into a place filled with desperate and starving people who have been driven to fight each other for food.

Confirmed: The DHS Is Pursuing A Fascist Policy In The US

-Note the odd highlighting of the "HH" there.
This was brought to my attention by my friend
friedmouse here last night, but since neither of us use Xitter, I wasn't able to confirm that it was real. At least in my case I've never used Xitter because I've always tried to avoid feeding surveillance capitalism social media sites. -It would be pretty easy to fake that, after all.
With the help of another friend here,
DoomsdayRabbit I was able to confirm this morning that this is absolutely real. Great work, friends!
The painting depicted there, John Gast's American Progress depicts "Manifest Destiny" in the person of Columbia, who symbolizes the US, bringing the light of "Civilization" from the East to the to the land of darkness of the West, as shown by the indigenous people. Color prints of this painting were widely distributed here in the early 1870s
Anybody still trying to deny the rise of US fascism and the ongoing plan to establish it here is just burying their head in the sand.
*Update:
This is the actual link:

So, While still pretty appalling, the first one WAS shooped, as I originally suspected. Rather clever, though.

Genocide Bad

Author Sim Kern talks about her book Genocide Bad. Notes on Palestine, Jewish History, and Collective Liberation
From the publisher's note on the book:
Part activist memoir, part crash course in Jewish and Palestinian history, Genocide Bad dismantles Zionist propaganda in ten unapologetic essays. Drawing connections between Biblical promises and exploding pagers, medieval dress codes and modern-day apartheid, Kern sketches a sweeping history of imperialism with their characteristic blend of far-ranging research, pop-culture insights, and scathing humor.
Kern, a former teacher, journalist, novelist, and book influencer, gained international recognition as an anti-Zionist Jewish activist in the days after October 7th, 2023. At a time when social media was flooded with “I Stand with Israel” posts, Kern started sharing content encouraging their followers to read Palestinian books, learn Palestinian history, and question Western reporting on Palestine—videos which went viral into tens of millions of views.
Despite facing hate messages, death threats, and exile from the Zionist Jewish community, Kern has remained steadfast in their advocacy over the past year. They’ve posted daily videos on Palestinian, Jewish, and colonial history, and they’ve raised over $500,000 in direct aid for families in Gaza—all while navigating the challenges of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting a newborn. In Genocide Bad, Kern reflects on the life experiences that led them to anti-Zionist activism, while capturing and expanding upon their online educational content.
Kern doesn’t flinch when confronting the horrors of genocides past and present, but there is also tremendous hope contained in these pages—hope that springs from examples of courage and resilience in the face of extreme violence, and from the kinds of resistance that might just lead to our collective liberation.

My previous journal on this:

This is a Florida state facility. Texas-based company IRG Global Emergency Management gave $10,000 to Florida’s Republican Party just days before it received a no-bid, $1.1 million contract with Florida to “provide operational support services in support of migration efforts in the state.” So far, around $608 million has been spent on this camp.
It's being run by a private corporation called Delta Foxtrot Solutions Incorporated, under the auspices of the state of Florida, not ICE.
Congressman Maxwell Frost was part of a group of 28 Democratic representatives who visited this camp. They universally reported deplorable conditions there.
They were prevented from speaking with the prisoners there, -which is not typical- or from entering their cages, which each hold 32 men.
Frost said "And it goes to show exactly what this is meant to do. The administration is essentially trying to ethnically cleanse the country of Latinos, of Haitians. Because I’ll tell you, when I was in that facility, I didn’t see any, you know, Europeans who’ve overstayed their visa or anything like that. It was all Latinos, all Haitian people, and nothing else."
When asked about his contention that this camp should be closed, he said "Yes, it needs to be closed immediately. The conditions I saw there are abhorrent. But I also got to be honest with everyone watching. A lot of people are, you know, now learning about detention facilities. I got to tell you, I went to Baker detention facility in North Florida. The conditions are also abhorrent there. At the time, I wrote to President Biden, saying that place needs to be closed, as well.
Oftentimes the thought process here is the conditions are so bad that as immigrants are trying to fight legally the deportation order, they get to a place where they say, “You know what? The conditions in here are so bad, I’d rather go — I’d rather leave the country. I’d rather sign my deportation papers,” and essentially demoralizing people. I met with two Haitian gentlemen when I was at the Baker facility in Starke, Florida, and both of them told me, “You know what? I’ve been fighting this deportation for eight months. I’d rather fight for my life on the streets of Haiti right now than be in this facility a day longer.”

Yet ANOTHER Doctor In Gaza Speaks...
Posted 4 months agohttps://www.democracynow.org/2025/7/14/gaza
The Gaza "Humanitarian" foundation has now halted their operation close to central Gaza South of the Netzarim corridor. This is in an attempt to drive the starving Gazans further to the South to risk their lives for a chance to receive inadequate food supplies, as well as a chance to be murdered on their way to the two remaining sites or at them.
Israel's latest plan is to establish a "Humanitarian City" (Read concentration camp) on the recently emptied and leveled land of Rafah city. Rafah has been completely obliterated, and they intend to intern the remaining Gazans in this camp and not let them out, only giving them the option of "Voluntaily" moving to some undetermined country, starving and dying from inadequate food and thirst, or dying from inadequate medical care.
It's certainly possible that Israel would open the Rafah gates and drive them into the Sinai.
Needless to say. this is a war and humanitarian crime. And don't forget that Gaza was already one of, if not the most crowded places on the planet prior to Oct. 7th, and that they've been living under a siege for over 18 years now.
Doctor Tarek Loubani continues to tell what is a VERY old story by now, with the possible exception that not only are the Israelis targeting innocent Palestinian civilians with kill shots to the head and chest, but they're now targeting their groins as well.
In the last 100 days of this siege almost 900 people in Gaza have been murdered and about 5600 wounded by the Israelis and US GHF workers while trying to get access to food, by far the most of them being at GHF sites.
Over 1500 medical workers kave been killed since Oct. 7th, and oveer 350 have been kidnapped and detained.

I’m sorry, but I don’t want to be an emperor. That’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone, if possible. Jew, Gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another. Human beings are like that. We want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone. And the good earth is rich and can provide for everyone. The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way.
Greed has poisoned men’s souls, has barricaded the world with hate. Has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed. We have developed speed, but we have shut ourselves in. Machinery that gives abundance has left us in want. Our knowledge has made us cynical. Our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost…
The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood, for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world--millions of despairing men, women, and little children--victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people.
To those who can hear me, I say, do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed... the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish!
Soldiers! don’t give yourselves to brutes! Men who despise you--enslave you--who regiment your lives! Tell you what to do, what to think, and what to feel! Who drill you, diet you, treat you like cattle! Use you as cannon fodder! Don’t give yourselves to these unnatural men! Machine men, with machine minds, and machine hearts! You are not machines! You are not cattle! You are men! You have the love of humanity in your hearts! You don’t hate! Only the unloved hate--the unloved and the unnatural! Soldiers! Don’t fight for slavery! Fight for liberty!

This follows on it last month answering people's queries with random statements backing up Musk's belief in white genocide in South Africa.

What REALLY Happened At MacArthur Park
Posted 4 months agohttps://www.kenklippenstein.com/p/e.....n-excalibur-in
Ken Klippenstein managed to acquire some documents which reveal the plans involving 11 agencies of the state mounting a military style assault on MacArthur park on a typically peaceful summer day there.
This report provides a rare and mindblowing insight into how the state undertakes such an operation.
This operation was a completely pathetic and misguided boondoggle, All they managed to do was to hassle a handful of houseless folk and disrupt a kids summer camp, making themselves look like complete fools. I wonder how much we payed for this?
As is seen in the documents they were seriously overprepared with faulty and long out of date information. This would just be hilarious if it weren't just such an obvious psyop, as all of this is.
As you can see in the article, this operation included multiple military vehicles, a military helicopter, mounted border guards, the comandeered California National Guard, and a list of the participating agencies denoted by their codenames, which were various brands of sodas.
They were preceded to the park by members of civilian rapid response networks and protesters, who threw fruit at the agents and used a bullhorn to warn people "La migra".
And of course we can always count on Faux news to have a particularly bad faith take on this, publishing the typical lies about this epic non-event and the opinions of their cultish followers as if they had any relevance beyond being slavish cultists:

Alligator Auschwitz
Posted 4 months agoTrump, with the help of Ron DeSantis, has now had a concentation camp hastily constructed on a little used airstrip in the everglades that he's calling "Alligator Alcatraz".
This camp will supposedly have room to house 5000 people on their way to being deported, and the first group of around 400 migrants were moved there last week.
The camp consists of large repurposed FEMA canvas tents lined with cages built inside them and bunks, and provided with air conditioning. It's being built with around $600 million in FEMA funds, and is expected to cost around $450 million a year to run.
Since this camp has an airstrip, they're calling it a "One stop shop" for deportations.
State congress members have tried to go there to inspect it, as is their right, but have been denied access.
People being held there are being denied access to lawyers and their families, and have reported that the conditions are awful and unsanitary, that they don't have access to enough hygiene supplies or water, and they've been served only one meal a day and food with maggots in it, the lights are kept on 24 hours a day, and they have no protection from the mosquitos. One Columbian man said that "I’ve gone three days without taking my medicine, They took the Bible I had and they said here there is no right to religion.”
People are concerned about their access to due process, and there are people being held there who say that they have papers that allow them to be in the US.
This is in such a remote location that really, how will we ever know what's going on there? No doubt this is part of the plan.
This is just more of the current regime's program to terrorize immigrants, and brown and black people in general.
The Everglades are a sensitive environment, and environmentalists have pointed out that there were no environmental impact reports done before this camp was constructed and are worried about damage to the land and water. Local indigenous people object to these people disrespcting their sacred land.
The Everglades are the largest mangrove wetlands in the Western hemisphere, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But of course Trump is pulling out of UNESCO, just as he did last time.
I have to wonder what they're doing with the waste there. The Everglades are a critical source for fresh drinking water in the area.
This also sounds like a potential disaster should there be a hurricane.

What You Don't Know About The Kerr County Flood
Posted 4 months agoDespite being a home for the second largest number of millionaires in Texas, and despite knowing that they're subject to frequent flash floods, they decided after the last major flood there in 2015 not to install more water monitoring and flood warning sirens there because it would be "Too expensive". Other communities in the area have installed warning sirens.
And despite recent drastic NOAA and National Weather Service cutbacks, they did managedto get warnings out on time, but those were sent to Xitter, (which not everyone has) and phones in the early hours of the morning. The girls at Camp Mystic had their phones taken away while at the camp, and phone reception is spotty at best in that hilly area.
It's really no surprise that so many people ended up being killed by this flood, and there's no excuse for it.
This flood was particularly bad because of the climate catastrophe. There had been a drought in the area, and those hills are made of limestone, which essentially becomes like concrete when it dries out, so when rain falls, it runs straight off.
This was really due to a compounding of factors, making it a worst case scenario.
Of course the Republicans are all invoking God and calling for prayer, rather than proposing to actually do anything.
The administration SERIOUSLY needs to rethink ending FEMA and their drastic cutbacks to the Weather Service and the NOAA, which returns what's invested in it by an estimated factor of 73 to 1. The anti science shit has got to stop.

GHF Workers Reveal GHF Is Killing For Fun...

Watch the video of this headline to see GHF workers laughing as they randomly shoot unarmed Palestinians who came to pick up food, as they have been doing every day since this "Humanitarian" operation started.
At least 534 people have been murdered at these sites since the GHF began their program, and at least 100 people have been murdered at other food distribution sites.
This footage comes courtesy of two whistleblowing GHF workers whose consciences compelled them to come forward with this to the AP.
Make no mistake: The GHF is a military operation, not a humanitarian one. It's an absolute travesty of anything that could be considered humanitarian.
Actually, it's well worth checking out all of the headlines at least on todays episode of Democracy Now! It's just one appalling thing after the other:
