FWA Post Con
Posted 10 years agoIts hard to sort out what was legitimately wrong with the hotel, maybe hotels in big cities work differently than what I'm used to.
I was disappointed in the lack of refrigerators in the rooms, on the last day I discovered you can rent one from the hotel for 18$ a night but I feel a 4 star hotel should include it with the mid-tier rooms at least.
Like alot of people have noted, the ginormous atrium was nice, but it was also pretty hot. I don't know if this is the fault of the hotel, perhaps it is prohibitively expensive to cool such a big air space, or maybe they had some equipment failures over the weekend. I was on the 23rd floor, by the time I managed to get down to the con floor I would already be sweaty faced and needing to hit the headless lounge to wipe off.
The hotel did do an excellent job providing lots of water stations for us to use, props for that. The headless lounge and dance floor were well AC'ed, that was good.
The food court in the adjacent mall was pretty neat, I liked the variety and discovered that Caribou Coffee > Starbucks all up and down peachtree ave. I didn't like that everything closed down so early
The convention activities I participated in ran smoothly, I enjoyed the variety in the dealers den and artist alley. I defiantly had fun fursuiting but that is usually a given. I got to spend lots of quality time with huskies and catch up with "whorewig" also many beers were split with brosefs.
I was able to enjoy the con but its highly unlikely I will attend it in 2016. Alot of it isn't the fault of the convention, I feel it lays more with Atlanta, I don't want to deal with it again.

Posted 10 years agoProbably old news by now but I got me a huskies! (f5 for our adorbs icons)

Over the past three weeks I have been on a first shift work schedule getting trained on Next Generation Sequencing at work. Its been interesting being a day walker again, I'm sleeping alot better than I was on third, maybe its something I'll carry back to third shift with me. NGS is alot of fun too but its alot of watching the robot go wee-round the deck shooting DNA at things. This weekend is going to be long, I'm attempting to stay up 24+ hours from Saturday morning to hopefully kickstart a third shift sleep schedule as I have workies Sunday night.
I've developed an interest in firearms, purchasing two over the past two months, they're both pretty old. One is 61 years old and the other is 76 years old. I've had my fill of modern firearms in the Marines and wanted to try something new. They are exhilarating to operate, the feeling and weight of the wood in my hands is so nice, not to mention the pa-pa-pow! Both rifles served as little history lessons as I studied their markings and researched their points of origin. Its a relatively expensive hobby unfortunately, pretty much as bad as fursuiting money wise. I have been pondering learning how to reload ammunition to cut down costs.
As for fursuiting, I had a memorable experience this past Saturday, me and Zeph were suiting in Pullen Park and we had a small child share this thought with us. "I would like you to come over to my house, but its an apartment." It was pretty adorable, something I feel I'll remember a long time, its alot of fun interacting with people outside the fandom. Pullen Park meet is this weekend, I'm totally ready to get my fuzz on. ^^
Relay for Life:
More on fursuiting side of things, I'll be participating in RFL event in Jacksonville, NC on April 24, 2015. My father passed from pancreatic cancer 2 years ago and it drags me down everyday.

Fangcon 2014
Posted 11 years agoHey woofs
After much suit maintenance and 11 hour nap I can collect my thoughts.
I hadn't intended on attending Fangcon this year but it fell on a payday weekend and after spending so much money the past two months getting my car fixed up I wanted to have some fun! I sweet talked my supervisor into letting me off an hour early so I could rush home and do some laundry and was able to hit the road about 830 AM Saturday morning. Made it to the convention shortly after 1 pm, got my room and registration and promptly passed out for a much needed nap.
Woke up at 6 that night and suited up, made it down to the convention space around 7. Only took me a few minutes to bump into a group of triangle furs and the good times began. I got to see Zeph Husky's new suit which is adorable. I also did much hanging out with Arkarian, Dingra, Lucidus, and Kaynus. They were also super nice and let me keep my luggage in their room after I had to check out of mine Sunday afternoon, thankies!
I met this one furry early on named Tay the Fox who gave me a giant pixie stick which turned into this really awesome prop for the rest of the con. One of the con staff hooked me up with a huge box of 50 of these things and it was alot of fun to pass them out to people. It was also much fun to whap people with them or tap various objects as I was investigating them.
I got to play alot with
zellinfurno in the artist alley who drew a cute wolf picture for me on the giant pixie stick box I was carrying around. I'll post it a bit later. I also met this fuzzy in the lobby
zwolfie who sketched a Siku! I'm excited to see it hawrrruu. ^^ She had her fuzzy tail on and it was thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis big.
Sunday was also great! I woke up about 8 am and found a few triangle furs around 9 to play with. One of the furries there had a toddler with her and she proved a challenge to win over but it was fun to do so. ^^
This has to be the smallest convention I've attended but it wasn't a bad thing, the smaller convention space kept the fur density high and I had no problem finding fuzzy friends to play with. The hotel staff was also really nice! Hope furs didn't leave their hotel rooms completely trashed. This was definitely a good con and totally worth the trip!
The drive home was pretty scary, I had a few of those spontaneous daydream hallucinations while driving home because I was so worn out from suiting. I think I got roughly 16 hours of suiting time over the two days lol. I'm pretty sure I hallucinated tails in the road at one point.
Anyhoo,
Thanks to everyone that played with me, had a great time and will plan on attending next year. ^^ Hwrrrr

Halloween 2014!
Posted 11 years agoHey woofs!
I had an eventful evening. Tonight I did the craziest thing, I decided to suit at workies since its Halloween. Working third shift we celebrate Halloween early with a candy exchange in the break room. I called out and with the help of a friend at work I was given the time of the exchange. I suited up and went around the back of the building, it was pretty dark and the terrain is very uneven, stumbled around a lot but at least I didn't fall. This let me peer into the break room windows where I waited till someone noticed then I fled. My coworker helped by luring a few people outside to investigate as I moved around back of the building again to use a door to enter the the building. From there I snuck into the break room so when people came back they could be all surprised!
It worked pretty good, alot of laughs were had and pictures taken and I was glad it was something fun I could share with my coworkers. I seem to be blessed with opened minded one, or maybe they just gave me a pass because of the holiday. Either way I feel like I made the shift eventful in a good way. ^^
Its 3 am and there is still 21 hours of Halloween left to go, I'm off! *poof*

Rainfurrest 2014
Posted 11 years agoHey woofs!
Just got back home from Rainfurrest and I am all pouty eared because work is looming a mere 10 hours away.
I certainly had a blast, met lots of neat new people and made a good friend (who killed me a few times) but I'll let that go this time. It was my first convention where I had a fursuit to bounce around in making a whole new experience for me. I'm pretty sure I spent more time in suit rather than out of suit, so I'm low on pictures but hopefully I can track some down later.
I'm glad I bought a balaclava at the convention, if people could see the stupid grin I have while I'm wearing this thing I think they would be scared off. The amount of fun I can have just playing woof with random people seems unreal, I may hit a new level of post con depression. But this Saturday there local furs are having a meet so I get to suit again! Whee. Px
Siku really needs a bath though, lots of fursuit maintenance to do. Next convention I'm leaning towards larger fans and multiple sets of sweat soaking underlayers, they just don't air dry fast enough for me!
Thank you to everyone who played with me and my friends who put up with my suit antics, I hope you had a wonderful time as I did.

First fursuit outing!
Posted 11 years agoSo last Saturday I got to take Siku out into the real world for the first time. It was a furry meet up at a bowling alley, there were almost 50 of us crazy fuzzies running around. I didn't do any bowling, just wanted to run around and preform, be a general knucklehead woof. I felt very anxious going in but settled down quickly.
I must say it turned out to be everything it was cracked up to be. Having completely rational (well maybe not completely rational lol) people treat you like you're some fantasy creature is great. It was fun having to think on my feet on how to communicate without words. I think I need to practice more but I've gotten words of encouragement from some friends that said I was doing great. Thanks Rory and Botter. ^^
On the other end of the bowling alley there were a bunch of kids having a birthday party, a friend of mine took me over there and introduced me to some. Alot of the kids jumped at the opportunity to say hi and get a high five from the wolf. Its awesome how drawn into the magic of the costume kids can get and the more drawn in they are the easier it is for me to play along and add some magic to their day. The friend who was with me even gave me some pointers and had me playing peekaboo with them over the counter.
Later on one of the parents came over and thanked us for adding a little spice to their son's birthday party, it felt great. I wish I had some pictures to share but it would feel awkward asking for them. Its hard to put into words how much fun it was, before I knew it I had been running around almost 3 hours playing with random people. I got alot of compliments as well, thanks everyone and of course a big thanks to the suit maker trashingsofas for making it possible. ^^
