Really? Jay Maynard is a furry? Honestly I had not the slightest inclination. Always knew he was a computer programming guy, known for his tron guy suit and crap, but i had no idea he was a Warner fursona, proceeds to muck/mud, and even has a furrycode.

Just thought i'd share.

Okay so, quick announcement before i pass out tonight.

My soon-to-be-official fiance has known that I've been apart of the furry community, and has even grown to accept and love my character Tarek.
So much so that she was probably more ecstatic about putting up some of the posterized commissions I've had created over the years earlier this evening (FINALLY bought a frame and put up some)

The bomb was then dropped by me stating "We should make you a character so i can get a commission done of that", and then entered a very brief but pro-active discussion over her characters big picture ideas.

Baby steps here people!


At first she thought about making herself a Jaguar or a Leopard. Which was already a winner in my books...
But then she thought "Well, actually considering your characters a Coyote, maybe i should be a fox or something, with a big bushy tail, and 5 inch pink stilettos. If im gonna be a fox, i gotta be sexy, that's a requirement.".


Allow me to put into perspective why this was such an awesome conversation:

1. She's actually discussing a character to have alongside mine.
2. My character, as part of his personality, only sought out vixens. So that's absolutely perfect.
3. I absolutely love big bushy tails
4. Stilettos are sexy as fuck.
5. She wants a sexy anthro character made.

....
I knew I was marrying the right woman! Holy crap!

A year ago today I embarked on a journey that some have considered epic. It's not all awesome but its by far not at all bad either.
For those who don't like to read allow me to start where I am right now.

I am currently living with my girlfriend in our own place. It's a basement suite but there's no roommate's. My life is amazingly happy and complete now that I have found my significant other :) she knows that I'm a furry (she's Asian, she was more accepting of this news than I thought shed be haha) and I've even shared furry related stories with her, we laughed :)
I am now an established professional web developper for one of my areas most prominent web firms called Navigator Multimedia. I specialize in PHP, MySQL, and soon Obj-C (iOS dev) and Java (for Android).
Tiff has just acquired an assistant manager position on the fashion store "Claire's" and is just wrapping up her training today. Her journey to find work is also a storied and interesting one since last year.
Just the other day I fulfilled a.multi-year.search for the perfect cell phone for me, and I finally settled on the HTC Incredible S. Should be called the Incredible.BA, for "Bad Ass". Love this thing!

Today is the day i move back to Kelowna.

This is a bit of a scary venture for me, as im not entirely prepared for what will or will not occur.
if i stay in summerland i will eventually be charged rent, and my EI runs out in August. There is NO business opportunity here or even half decent part time jobs that would have me.
If i move to Vancouver i risk running bills way to high with nothing to fall back on, itd essentially be like jumping into an ocean from a helecopter and only sporting half inflated water wings. Yes the industry i want to work in IS there, but i have NOTHING to my name or resume that could show i was even remotely interested.
If i move to Penticton i run the same risk as continuing to stay in summerland, except more expensive rent. I would LIKE to move to Penticton so i could be closer to my gf, but...
The move to Kelowna makes the most sense at this point, for while its a city that thrives more on graphic design and photography for its "entertainment industry", theres just MORE opportunities to LIVE, and i have an abundance of folks willing to back me up in that area and outreached.

Overall, i need to start making some money. Bills are snarling at me like fucking Irish Wolfhounds, Student Loans is yapping at me like a Jack Russell fucking Terrier, ill soon be paying rent (cant escape that) so my new landlord will be watching me like a Vulture, and on top of all this, i still need to eat.

So i need to figure something out here. I make top dollar EI but that just isnt fucking enough. You think it would be. But it isnt.


*sigh* money problems dont depress me, i can deal with that. Its the UNKNOWN problem of not knowing how im going to obtain future money that depresses the fuck out of me.

So i havent been here for a little bit, so heres a bit of an explanation to those who actually care.


Ive not only been busy, ive been ridiculously busy. "But DV, how can you be out of a job and still be busy? ya Slacker". Its true, i still dont have a real job. In the meantime ive got projects, projects to help me out in life.
Right now im working on a project called "First Response" which im heading up. Ill provide a link to the ModDB page when i finally get bothered enough to put it up there.
Also im acting as assistant producer and also talent to my buddies short film, might even also do some editing.
I act as an animator for the Resistance and Liberation HL2 mod, though this might not go on for much longer thanks to how much time First Response is going to suck away from me
I have myself a girlfriend now, and i need to pay attention to her (and no shes not in the fandom)
Im always seeking training and opportunities, whereever they may unfold
Constantly looking for places to live while trying to figure out where im going to be for the next while
I have my own short to animate whenever the free time permits it
Im STILL trying to catch up on the seasons with House MD (at time of writing i just finished Season 4 Episode 1)
I do still play a game or two on the side (Battlefield bad Company 2 on the PS3, as well as some Heavy Rain and Fallout 3 now and again)
I still have my normal social life (means constantly driving back and fourth between cities to see and hang out with my friends)

Im not an advocate for Hockey, hell throw names at me and ill only click if you mention "Bertuzzi" or however the hell you spelled his last name.
But i followed the Mens Olympics Hockey semi-vigorously, not just for the fact its on Home soil, especially my province even, but for the fact its a sport Canada is pretty much synonymous with (that and Curling, buuut..)

The final game, was something iconic, and if went any other way; devastating.

Team Canada vs Team USA, a team who had not even been trailing in a game since they started the tournament, and who publically humiliated Canada only a few games prior in the very same tournament.
For the Gold?

Thats pretty big right there, Canada vs US in pretty much anything no hold barred, is pretty much grounds for something historic in the Olympics. But when it comes to Hockey, well, thems just fightin words right there when it comes to Canada. But put this all together on the home soil of the Vancouver Canucks?
I dont care who you are, youve heard of the Canucks somewhere. Hell, its the team that took the yanks original derogatory slang against Canadians and made a team about it in our own nationally renowned game. Like the Yankees in Baseball for the states.
The only way i could see something just as big as this matchup would be other locations in Canada (Calgary [as in The Flames].. annnnnnnnnnnd maaaaaaaaybe Edmonton [for The Oilers]) but if you ask me, the fact its all taking place in the Canucks own Hockey Stadium?

I just cant express in words enough how emotional the whole buildup has been, even for a bystander such as myself.
I dont know stats, i dont know names, but i can recognize something as huge as this.


in the Gold Medal game, When Canada forced that first puck past Ryan Miller, and for the first time in this tournament the USA Team was "Trailing", i was filled with a resounding sense of Canadian Pride. For if anything else, this was a moment to grasp onto.
Then they scored a second time and suddenly, the very thought of taking the Gold was prominant in the mind, i was filled with an excitement i had not felt in years.
When USA scored after that, it became a nail biter from then on until the end. This was the necessary element to the excitement needed for a steller game; the USa has a fucking awesome team i will not lie, but i wanted someone to physically take out Miller at this point with a good ol slash to the helmet or some other bullshit interference just to see us take the gold.
It was the last minute, USA pulls their goalie for an additional frontman. When it got down to 30 seconds, people in the pub were beginning to leave, it was already over. We got it, we were so sure... and then the unthinkable happens: USA scores the tie game, bringing it into OverTime, at just 24 seconds to go in the third period.

The entire room went into an uproar, for something that had been so SURELY grasped had been slipped from undernethe them like a table cloth when uncle Lou is around. There was blood in the eyes of everyone watching each of the 12 big screen TVs. I cant even begin to tell you the language uttered by these individuals. Me being just one of them.

For every.single.shot. by someone on the ice at this point, being sudden death, the room filled with the audible "OOHHH!"s and "AAHHHHH!!!"s one would expect to hear AT the rink.
And then it happens.

Canada gets one past Ryan Miller in a HELL of a clean shot, a DECISIVE goal, no questions asked. The room EXPLODES with energy as we watch the dude who scored the goal gets piled by his team mates in excitement, the room i was bursts out in the Canadian National Anthem, and that moment I was reminded, though mind you i had never forgotten, i am a proud British Columbian, i am a prouder Canadian, and goddamnit sure as hell, i love my fellow Canadians!

Sure to some, its just a game, and to some even more "its the winter olympics, who cares?" but this is our game, this is our turf, and this was the olympics, i care not who you are, it definitely means something. This is the best of the best competing for worldwide attention, pride, recognition, and lest we forget, for the love of the sport, no matter which one.


Each country in the field of Hockey, both Mens and Womens, played some great games. The Slovakians, the Russians, the Germans, the Fins, etc, they all played fantastic games and its easy to see how these people were chosen to represent their nation. But in the end, i am canadian, and i must root for my boys. and i could NOT be prouder of them.



this all said, i may actually start following Hockey a bit more closely, it took this incredible finale game to make me realize; i actually like this sport.

also said, im not sure this would be quite AS big a deal if Canada won 2-1 or 3-1. it took the tension of that Overtime to show, both Countries wanted it, Both Countries deserved it, and i couldn't have asked for a better game.

Seriously, GG guys.

So far, its been a bit of a mixed bag XD

The con is TOTALLY worth it to come and hang out with people ive never met fac to face before, and meet a whole new cast of crazies i would never have had the please of meeting if i didnt go. But man, then panels... the PANELS! lol

So i missed ALL of the panels on Friday, basically fighting my way through the dealers den and the auction rooms, meanwhile having to ditch early cause Space and I needed to catch the ACE train back (6PM Commuter schedule)

So we rented a car and booked a room for tonight at the Sainte Claire (where im sitting in the business center of right now) so we didnt miss any of the late night stuff.

Right so, the first panel i attend at a furry con? What else other than the "Canine" panel. I mean, my fursona is a pure Coyote breed (just Grey). Unfortunately the person that was supposed to run the panel, never showed up. Probably dog drunk/hungover ;) it was at 1PM if im not mistaking. If not earlier.
Anyways, also, almost no one showed up. There were maybe 12 of us in the room, including Space, Kaz, and MDTailz. Space is a Tiger Hedgehog Protoss thing, Kaz is a Wolf ..and something else (brain has shut down, forgive me), and MDTailz is a Kitsune.
So what do you gt when there is no leader, and a room partially filled with furries? Anarchy really. It was fun watching 3 different furs trying to do something at the presenter table. Total chaos, and there was a single casualty: the table skirt. Got ripped clean off due to the shenanigans XD

The second thing i attended, was the photoshop panel. I kinda figured i wouldnt learn much new when it comes to Photoshop. Im very technically proficient with the software itself,. but this panel had me interested to see how someone else paints digitally aside from myself.
I come from an Animation background, so my drawing process involves starting off with a blue stick figure, then blocking out the anatomy, drawing in the lined details, then coloruing and calling it a day.
This dude obviously has a traditional painting background, because aide from layers and SOME use of Adjustment layers, this guy was doing everything via painting and a brush that emulated an actual paintbrush.
it was pretty cool to watch beginning to end. But again, learned almost nothing unfortunately :\

After that decided to hit up the Smash bros tourney, i figured id be there a while. While im confident im my non-n00bish skills in Smash bros, i was still knocked out in the first round. I guess in a 1v1v1v1, it doesnt make any sense to go after the dude with the most lives, eh? no, knock out the dude whos already losing as your losing yourself. Thats an effective strategy.
*sigh* i swear i was the only one who knew what he was doing during that match, but because i was being sensible, it cost me 2 solid lives, and thus i lost (stock 3, 3min time limit btw)

And so here i am, Space and Kaz went to the dance thing going on, i grabbed a coffee and some cheese cake from the Bakery/Cafe thing, MD and .. (shit i forget his name) joined me until the place closed, i checked back into the room, and came down here to print off some reference sheets for tommorrows Sketch Commission scavenger hunt (my main goal tommorrow: $100 in sketches).
Also, i commissioned, i think Ruki is her name, or something, i have the name on the dealers map, will make it a point to write it down tommorrow XD Full color commission for $70. Im stoked to see how it turned out, her stuff blew me away.


The fairmont, is amazingly cool. And its very nice to see even the staff getting into it (wearing ears, saw one donning a tail even) it makes the whole experience so much more comfortable.


Anyways, thats it for now, maybe ill write more tommorrow, who knows, ill be attending a few of the panels tommorrow. Such as Basic Body Construction (mostly outta curiosity), ... Poses and Expressions (need to work on muzzle expressions, both realistic and cartoony), oh ya and the little thing known as Furry Night Live! You know.. the thing i CAME to the CON to SEE? XD

Theres two bits of Drama going on right now.

1. Chewfox and TomCat appeared on Tyra Banks show, primetime network TV, and talked about how they have sex in fursuits.
2. Chewfox gets banned from FA.

Which one is causing more drama? Honestly i think its Chewfox getting banned from the looks of things.

If you are thinking in any way the other way around, come on, the fandom has been through far worse media than a single couple admitting something, weve had Sex2k and CSI as a primer, two incredibly popular shows, that really delved into the subject.
This one, it was a single category of 3.

honestly, while i dont agree with FA trying to be the Furry Police, i actually agree with the movement.
I do sympathise for Chew and Tom, i dont know em at all, but their heart was surely in the right place (at least im assuming based on how obviously nervous they were on the show, trying to watch what they were saying). But something needs to be done about these "volunteers" who think they can speak for the whole fandom.

I really am sick of hiding the fact im a furry and for the past year or so ive solidly climbed out of that shell, i dont prance it around like its the best thing in the world, but if i do get any inquiries im honest and level with the person(s).
Heres the thing though, while i think i got a nice grasp on what I think the fandom is, im not going to go on record and try to preach it to the world, because i know ill be wrong, and id be setting a gross misrepresentation as a whole.
Probably end up embarassing myself.
Probably end up shaming the fandom.
Probably end up not being accepted to anything furry every again and even ruining friendships founded within.
I dont blame some for thinking that thats all a worthy sacrifice to finally set a good image for the whole fandom in a couple minutes of TV time, the problem is itll NEVER work for us, at least not by ourselves, i would leave it up to the professionals who have been dealing with these media types for ages now, such people like Kage.

Im never in the market of discouraging but something needs to be done about these volunteers, appearing in front of the camera, with good intentions, just to turn out exactly like Chew and Tom here.


Just leave it to the professionals people. If someone from some network approaches you about a subject, give them the email contact info to Kage or something, someone who will know exactly what to say and how.

Honestly, Furries are a fairly loved bunch of strangers to anybody who sees them.
A friendly cute face for a parents children to laugh and have a good time with seeing,
A friendly set of people who only wish to bring good fun and cheerful playfulness to popular venues around the world (Fursuit Bowling anyone>)
A interesting topic to gossip amongst onlookers who dare to wonder
A set of entertainers and IT professionals ready for anything to make someone's life easier or put a smile on their face
One who doesn't cause any trouble to anybody

Sure theres criticisms and sure well be called weird for our love of these cartoons that some of us do on occasion take really seriously, but as long as WE as a WHOLE keep what's done in the bedroom, literally behind BEDROOM DOORS i honestly think for the past LONG time the subject of Furries was becoming SOMETHING of an social acceptance. Mostly, i think, due to the popular demand for catgirls / nekos in Anime first, and then finally as some reminisce about the cartoons we all grew up with which primarily featured anthro animals as the stars of the show.
Hell, even in Goon culture, Furries aren't a big subject anymore (or nearly AS big anyways)

We were doing JUST fine on our road to "acceptance", we don't need any superfluous "boosts" that accidentally malfunctions into "brakes".



Though honestly, the strange nature of the fandom is exactly what's so appealing about it :3

im getting a little desperate for some coin here. I just found out an hour ago that i just got fucked by Service Canada extremely hard. After this month is over, so will all the financial woes, but i still got rent to pay for this month, and NOT much time to do it.

Im willing for the first time ever to take commissions if some are feeling froggy and adventurous to allow me.
My portfolio here does almost no justice do how much i actually do care about my drawings, as aside from the Asylum comic they took less than a few hours.

And yes, im actually willing to draw Yiff to those who request it. Please dont ream me for requiring a couple more coins for the subject matter though as it just means ill be paying even closer special attention.

I honestly have no idea how much to charge though,
maybe 10$ a B/W Sketch + $5 per extra character + $5 for a background
$20 a Digital Colored + $5 per extra character + $10 for a colored background?

I dunno does that sound fair? Ive never done this before and im not trying to ask for too much

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of being around and stuff.
Its only temporary i assure you.

Lots of stuff has been going on and honestly i just hacent been in the right mindset to write anything. No scripts, no journals, no blog posts, nowhere.
Can probably blame that on my facilities. Deviantart and Furaffinity have extreme troubles loading even on the shitty internet that exists here. WiFi using AirPort on my iMac which is only maybe 20-30' away, i get 15% signal strength and a whopping 0.3kb/s download speed.
I bought a WiFi card for my PC which i eventually hooked up downstairs, but... that crapped out, it was RIGHT below the Modem, and i got 45% signal strength *sigh* For anything to happen on that beast, its gotta be wired, and right now the only ethernet cord is hooked into the Xbox360 where I can frequently be found playing a round of Halo 3 these days.


Internet Access has been a JOKE here. But thats about to change. This coming Wednesday were getting a new updated router, as per my request. The person at Telus who took our call even mentioned "Gross, why do you even still have THAT old thing" and mentioned something like we were supposed to get upgraded years ago.
Yyeeeaaahh... i <3 you too Telus.


Life on EI has been, well, vacant. I literally have not yet received even my first cheque from them. That comes on Wednesday (thank christ), so being $125 in the hole is a little strange. Its like being grounded, you cant go anywhere, cant do anything, and worst of all when you know noone around you locally, all your friends are 40+km away lol. Thankfully i at least have Alex (my friend and roommate) to hang around with usually, but our personalities clash sometimes which usually tends to force me to leave the room spontaneously sometimes before i loose my cool lol.
Its usually the unjust giving me a hard time even about the most miniscule of bullshit, that i find incredibly annoying, even if he is just joking about it. While im the type to not sweat the small shit and just go on about my day, hanging around someone who dwells on the past and makes it a point to notice and speak aloud every little flaw in what you do or say, is very irritating.

On that note, on Saturday i attended my very first FurMeet in Vancouver. It was a housewarming party that the owners of the house (Kaji, RainRat, amongst a few others) threw together. It was a drive for me, being in Mission and all, but it was worth it. I expected a grand total of maybe 20-25 furs to show up, but according to Kaji there were in excess of 70+. Thats. ALOT.
It was GREAT fun though, got to meet alot of new and interesting people, especially within the fandom which was a treat to me.
I honestly cant wait till the next meetup, and better yet to next Con. speaking of which...

CON REPORT

i may not be able to attend RainFurrest this year, and its not due to finanacial sufering. My own stupid lazy ass kept putting off upgrading my NDL (New Drivers License id imagine it stands for, with all the new security features) to an EDL (Enhanced Drivers License)
You may be asking "What the hell difference does your drivers license make?" well im glad you asked.
See, The border no longer accepts a piece of ID and a SIN + Birth Certificate anymore as separate papers. They only accept Passports and EDLs. An EDL is a chipped Drivers License which contains what you can call a Mini Passport + ID. Basically meaning, you can cross the border, driving, with an EDL alone. But it wont let you fly over.
Now i got the application filled out and even went in for the photo, but the lady behind the desk told me, that the date the card should arrive, is the Friday the weekend of the con. The worst part? Theres a 3 day buffer period before the Enhanced part of my DL becomes active. Meaning it encompasses and activates JUST after the con is finished.

On that note, this just means more money for Further Confusion 2010, which I've been lucky enough to have  spacemania offer me a place to crash, which means no hotel fees of gastronomical proportions. he lives roughly an hour away from the Con itself, so its unlikely ill be returning back to home base every single night, but because im unemployed, and i got nothing better to do, im going to then use that opportunity to sight see around California for a few more days after the con is finished.
God itd be cool to check out Hollywood somewhere in my travels i think :D

So its Day 2 of my move, and i havent even left the Okanagan yet.

The Plan: Be in Mission, BC by Sunday 16th. It is now Monday the 17th and ive moved maybe 40KM from home, back to my moms place.

How did i get here? Well i ended up procrastinating (read: working on other projects in a hurry) packing until the last minute, due to the fact i didn't realize how much shit i had accumulated over the past 5 years or so. ITS ALOT!! So i ended up having to call my mom to bring over a second vehicle just so i can tow the rest of it.
It STILL didn't all fit, so i gotta make a second trip. This time with a truck.
The person moving into my room doesn't own a truck per se, his mom does, and we though it best to borrow it. haul his crap in it going back to Kelowna, whilst on the way back we bring the rest of my crap in an empty vehicle.

Great plan, till he didn't call me at all yesterday...

So instead i ended up just chilling out, watching cartoons (the new batman and spiderman are fun btw) and reading books, while listening to my iPod. Eventually Jami came on over and we played and beat Resident Evil 2 "Leons Story". Afterward played many an hour of Brawl. Practicing up for any competition in Vancouver! Jami is semi-pro himself, and can easily destroy anybody he gets challenged by. This makes him a tremendously difficult person to win against, until he isn't trying anymore. But its worth it!

Annnd then i crashed reading My Boring Ass Life (Kevin Smiths book) until my brother came home, piss drunk. He had just come back from Warped Tour the other day, and his buddies and gf wanted to christen him back. Oh the poor bastard, hes been sick all morning XD


Thats roughly it...

Gotta see what i can do about getting into contact with the person moving into my room again, as ive already given him the keys, so i cant just go on my own in case theres no one there...

The.. shading was quite rush rush as now i have little time to pack up my room before i move tommorrow. Sorry  mdtailz but i cannot obsess over it anymore, and chances are im never going to finish it if i let it go until i got back into the swing of things.

Holy god i hate the shading.. might have been more worth it to keep it flat shaded with minimal hard shading instead of going the soft shading route >_>
