the Metal Badge Guy is a ripoff
Posted 15 years agoSo a year ago (October) at Furfright I bought a commission for a Metal Badge. I thought it was reasonable, $40 and I saw others around the con with finished badges.
Well it took many many months for him to e-mail me a crappy sketch that couldn't have taken more then ten minutes that was nowhere as nice looking as the examples he had on his table, which I asked a few minor changes on.
Then he made up excuses about it being too cold and damp to work on the badge. Ok. So I wait until summer to ask again.
And then more months go by. 2 months ago I message him again, asking where exactly is my badge? He says he has a con to go to, and after that he will mail it to me.
Still no badge.
He's refused to refund my money. I want the badge or the money back. This is unacceptable.
So if you see the guy offering metal badges at a furry con DO NOT BUY.

Furry books+comics you own?
Posted 15 years agoRANDOM QUESTION
What "furry"/ anthro related books and comics have you bought/own?
I have
Comics:
Mouseguard fall and winter, A few of the Tales of Mouseguard (really love the art, the setting is well thought out as well)
BlackSad (like the art, not really interested in the story... bought it because it was so highly recommended even by non-furries)
Lacadaisy Cats volume 1 (love the art, story, setting, everything about it)
The Last Unicorn the comic (also have the movie, one day I'll get around to buying/reading the actual book)
Gon vol 1 (dinosaur) (eh... its so-so, but I like the novelty of a wordless comic with animals)
Books:
Watership Down and its sequel Tales from Watership Down (also have the movie, saw the movie first. Love both)
Firebringer (in the process of reading it, like it so far!) (the one about deer... apparently there's also one about unicorns? this one is deer in Scotland)
The full Narnia set
Various guides to dragons and other mythical animals.
Books I own but haven't read yet:
The Sight and its sequel Fell (wolves, by the same author of Firebringer)
Redwall (1st book only)
Transformation or Loosely related to anthro:
various Marvel and DC comics like X-men and Green Lantern (they have some furry like characters)
Flight volume 3 (mostly not anthro, but all the flight books start out with this one about a fox)
+Anima (children with some animal features and powers) I highly, highly recommend this series! If you like Avatar: the last airbender (cartoon, not movie) you will really like this series.
Maximum Ride the comic vol 1 and 2 (teens with with bird wings)
Fruits Basket (they turn into animals when hugged)
Most of the Animorphs series (young teens that turn into animals) (I had the whole thing... but lost some of the books and now they're out of print so I can't rebuy)
Inverloch vol 1 and 2 (main character is a goat boy)

New THUNDERCATS cartoon
Posted 15 years agoI, for one, am excited!
http://www.toonzone.net/news/articl.....for-cn-in-2011
From Warner Bros Animation and Studio4C
just look at the people working on it (click on the link, read the article). This WILL be GOOD.
And before anyone starts thinking that they'll ruin a classic or make it "too anime", I'll have to remind them that the one from the 80's was cheesy as heck and was actually animated in Japan (just written by Americans).
If they change anything, I hope to dear god they get rid of Snarf. And make Lion-o a bit smarter. I have season 1 part 1 on DVD that I got really cheap of the old 80's version, and the only thing that's still excellent after all these years is the opening sequence (theme song and animation). Lion-o was missing many IQ points, let me tell you. It's a wonder that Cheetara and Panthro didn't take away his leader status and lock him away. And dump the useless Snarf in a swamp.
Now just to wait 'till 2011 *twiddles thumbs*
WolfLion Movie
Posted 15 years agoWatch the trailer for Alpha & Omega
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoaADvpxwJQ
and take note that:
1) Wolves don't have manes (lions do)
2) Wolves don't catch their prey with their arms/claws (lions do)
3) Wolves are not lion-colored (see the female "wolf")
Nice try LIONSgate films
Why does the female wolf-lion know freaking kung-fu ?
Also, what's with the low-quality CGI ? Looks like SimsAnimals for the Wii.
Why do I have the feeling they are specifically targeting furries and the wolf fans from other sites like Deviantart? Talking wolves with human eyes that need to "repopulate" ... IT'S A ROMANTIC COMEDY- WITH WOLVES.
And the trailer pretty much sums up the whole plot for you... he's a peasant, she's a princess, through their wacky adventures they end up falling in lurrrrrve.
and they just couldn't resist using both "Born to be wild" and "Hungry like the wolf" in the trailer, could they?
I'd watch it for free on TV, but I certainly wouldn't pay a movie ticket price.

INCOMING OLD ART
Posted 15 years agoI haven't draw any new furry/anthro art in a LONG TIME, as I'm sure you've noticed.
Today I found a box from 2000 that had art I did from 1997-2000. Including a bunch of anthro pictures, a few furry, but many AVIAN
I hope you like bird-people! I plan on scanning and uploading them within the next few days.
No criticisms on the anatomy, though, since the drawings will be over a decade old.

QUICK LOOK!
Posted 15 years agoYSaC featured my Not-A-Lion fanart I made them!
It will only be up there for about a day and a half, on the little side box where it says "you don't suck"

:D
EDIT: and they made it into a t-shirt :

they stole my donkey!
Posted 15 years agoIn the front of my yard was a cement donkey. It weighed 55 lbs.
It was from a neighbor's yard. It was in the front of his yard sine 1960, and when he passed away in the early 2000's, his family gave it to me (along with a few other things). I sanded it down, gave it a new paint job.
It must have been missing for a while, but I've been busy.... I kept looking at the spot knowing SOMETHING was missing....
Who would do that? Who would steal a 55lb cement donkey?

Plushies for a good cause
Posted 16 years agoWorld Wildlife fund has a nice collection of unique plushies available for a $50 donation.
http://www.worldwildlife.org/ogc/sp.....s_category.cfm
So not only do you get a nice plushie, you are contributing to a charity that helps save animals and their habitat. For a furry, that's a win-win, is it not?
A nice gift for yourself, a friend, a loved one, or you can double the charity and have the plushie sent to Toys-for-tots.
I have a Przewalski's Horse and Tasmanian Devil from them from previous years. (This year I'm going to get a Clouded Leopard)
They have mammals, marsupials, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and aquatic life. So no matter what kind of critter you prefer, they'll probably have something you like.

Elfwood
Posted 16 years agoDoes anyone actually use it anymore?
I use to be on there all the time, back in '98/'99. It was one of the very first sites I ever visited once I had a home computer connected to the internet.
Got myself a gallery there... but haven't updated it in YEARS. Not since 2001 I think. Whew, dusty!
I logged in to delete a few of the really poor quality old pics, and noticed out of over 91,000 users only 17 other people were logged in (it tells you how many are in the corner).
The submission process and rules got overly complicated at one point, and I think that scared everyone off.
I'd almost be tempted to delete my page there... but it's like a scrapbook of a long time ago in my online art "career".

I like that it's stop-motion, and no computer graphics. Great cast for the voices. Nice detail on the fur. And this may be the furriest furry movie I have EVER seen.
Boston people, I say we have a get-together the week it comes out to go see it! ( November 13 ). (Maybe not the premiere, but some reasonable time after)

hijacked e-mail?
Posted 16 years agoQuestion for the computer geeks out there
Every so often, on my lycos e-mail account, I get "mailer daemon" messeges of mail that I supposedly sent not being able to be sent to the address.
Only I never sent those messeges, and they appear to be spam.
but in turn, those returned messeges are being filed into my spam folder by lycos.
so my question is.... has my e-mail account really been hijacked, or is the mailer daemon actually a fake?
And if it is hijacked, what can I do? I keep changing my passwords, and have anti-virus, and log out right after read my e-mail. I don't log into my e-mail from other people's computers or public computers either, only my own, and clear my cache every time I sign off the internet.

Xmen's Beast is a BADGER?
Posted 16 years agoTell me I'm not the only one who's read "X-men: Misfits?"
It's soo cracky it literally made me cry with laughter. Mostly due to the unintentional humor as an X-men fan who's watched the 90's cartoon, X-men:Evolution, read the original comic issues from the 70's to the early 2000's, and saw all the movies. This is a manga adaption... a shoujo manga adaptation of X-men... that means girlyness and sparkles and big shiny eyes everywhere. OHH THE JAPANITY.
It centers around Kitty joining the X-men, and so... unlike her American comics counterpart, she often turns into a chibi catgirl for no reason. pfffffft.
You may remember Beast as the big blue fuzzy guy that liked to read, as so: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped.....im_Lee_art.jpg
in "X-men: misfits" he looks like this: http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/7681/badger.jpg
big furry badger that goes RAWR!
I couldn't stop there, I had to scan more. look at all this CRACK:
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/...../xmencrack.jpg
crack I didn't scan includes a sparkly Magneto, Prof.Xavier saying he would never create a team of superheroes, a panel where the boys look more like girls than the girl does, a panel where kitty thinks she's better than Nightcrawler because at least she shaves her legs, and so so much more.
speaking of Nightcrawler/Kitty:
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/.....rtkittylol.jpg ;)
Oh, and remember the Hellfire Club from the very famous Dark Phoenix saga? you know, the skeezy old men dressed like back in colonial times and the women who were...barely dressed?
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/m.....ire_Club_1.jpg
Yeah, well forget about that. misfits version? how about some barely dressed young men instead?
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/.....1/hellfire.jpg
Surprisingly unchanged were Scott (Cyclops) and Storm. Storm looks exactly like her 1980's mohawked version. Scott is a stick in the mud... I swear, no matter what artist, writer, cartoon, or movie feature him, he is always the same. It's the one thing you can always count on, Scott will always, always be a tool.
but the funniest part to me was... well you know how Kitty is Jewish? And this whole graphic novel centers around Kitty and her point of view? Who is the first person the artist thanks in the back once the comic is over? JESUS. hahahahaha.
I was having a bad week until I bought and read this. Worth ever penny I tell you.
And the description of the upcoming volume two? do you think it's about saving the world or fighting evil? of course not!
"This year, boys will the least of Kitty's troubles, because Kitty is no longer the only girl at Professor X's academy! Between sharing the boys of Xavier's school with the new girls, and an action packed school tournament- with an obstacle course, a fashion show, and a cooking showdown- it's going to be one crazy semester!"
I look forward to it.

The opposite of Anthro?
Posted 16 years agoThere has to be a word for it.
If anthropomorphic (which furry falls under) is taking something non-human and giving it human qualities, what would be the opposite of that?
Taking a human character and giving it some non-human qualities.... like angels have their wings, devils have their horns, catgirls have their cat-ears, and cyborgs have their robot-parts.
I've come across "kemonomimi" which is giving the ears and the tail of an animal to a human, like catgirls. But there has to be a broader term....

The "Sacrifice" comic and other comics are also archived.

I removed most of the pages from all the comics from here (FA), leaving only a few examples. So if they've disappeared from your favorites, that's why.
And yes, I've been working on Volcano, slowly but surely. Up to 89 out of 95. Should be done with it by fall *crosses fingers*

Mysterious Messages
Posted 16 years agoOK, I keep getting e-mails, on both my e-mail accounts, that are "FRIEND REQUESTS" from people I've never heard of..... for a "FURRY ART EXCHANGE" group. As well as something called "GROUPLY"
Here's the thing.... I never joined a furry art exchange group on any website. And I'm highly suspicious of this "Grouply" (which asks me to join to see the person's "profile and pics" like some kind of myspace. and it tells me that other people like my posts... posts what? I haven't posted anything there!)
If that's spam e-mail, that's awfully specific. Or someone else signed me up, with other my e-mails, to this thing.
Either way, it's making me paranoid.
For now I'm just deleting all the e-mails. If this IS from real artists, contact me through here or deviantart or something, ok?

I said I was going to take a month break from furry comics and....
SIX MONTHS LATER and into a new year....
I'll try to at least have some new pages of Volcano soon. Soon-ish. >_>;

Reverse Thanksgiving
Posted 17 years agoWhile most of you here in the states are sitting down to eat turkey, I won't be... I'll be having cheese pizza.
Instead I'll be feeding the flock of wild turkeys that have come to hang around in my yard. I left sunflowers seeds scattered on the ground.
They visit once every afternoon. Last winter, during some very cold snowy days a lone female turkey started coming to our bird-feeder, eating any seeds that fell on the ground. This years she invited all her friends.
Now I'm not a vegetarian, I just had a big bowl of chicken soup yesterday, but I thought the turkeys could use a break for at least one year... time they got a feast provided by humans ;)
