General | Posted 3 years agoOh my it's been a bit of a long time since I uploaded anything here or wrote a journal. It's been a bit difficult to say the least to keep up the motivation and inspiration, but I'm hoping as we emerge from 'the event' it will get back to normal again.

After Confuzzled
General | Posted 8 years agoTook me a bit of time to catch my breath after Confuzzled finished. I still find the biggest thing about conventions is just how damned fast they go when they are actually happening. You spend so long building up and preparing for it's over in a flash and you wonder where the time went to.
I find a lot of the time some of the most enjoyable things are random bits that happen without planning them or arranging time to do. It's just little things that make an event work. Always remember to be thankful of cameras and the videos/pictures that they capture. It can make a real difference to cherish the memories that are made.

Nordicfuzzcon review
General | Posted 8 years agoIt's been a little over a week since I got back from Nordicfuzzcon this year and finally have found time to sit down and write up a proper review of it. I really was struggling in the run up to the convention to find motivation for it. It's hard to say if it was one particular thing or lots of little things, but I wasn't finding myself getting a buzz for the convention like I normally would.
Travelling to the convention was fine, no real worries and even piles of snow to greet me. It's the only time I've stopped short of a gate to allow the snow to be cleared from it so we could park up and unload. The venue itself looked impressive from inside, the outside.... not so much :P
I spent most of my time at the con working in either the Ballroom or Mainstage. Lots of sound and light things happened, but I still wasn't enjoying myself. Everything just felt like it was work and I found myself not suiting up as I would have liked to. I only managed to get one suit out for one hour for a photoshoot. I found it really disappointing I wasn't able to get out more and socialise. I love suiting and it really helps me to find pictures of myself.
My laptop was conspiring against me as well with a glitching power supply and battery taking it's fill at the con. Struggled to get into my music and had a Guest event running for a good portion of my set. It's a thing that happens with events clashing over each other, but really struggles to get motivation going when people start appearing as you're about to finish up.
By the end of the con I was honestly looking forward to getting home and spending time in my own bed again. Hotel was just far too warm in the room with the temperature controls doing nothing to actually change the temperature of the room. Whilst I got to see people around, it was hard to sit down with them and talk.
In short, this wasn't the best of times at a con for me. Hoping the next one will be better for suiting and time to actually spend with people.

General | Posted 9 years agoOne of the things that struck me this year at Confuzzled was how fast things can change. As I work in the transport department of the convention I'm there days before most people arrive and leave days afterwards as well. It's interesting watching the hotel transform form purely business types in suits to one filled with various characters and people with a wide range of interests. It's almost sad when it slows back down again and the corridors are empty of fursuiters walking to and from things.
I really love conventions as it's sometimes the only time of a year when I will see people. For a few days I don't have to worry about finding the time or place to be social, I just have to walk outside my hotel room. There's always going to be a point of needing a respite from such an amount of social interaction, I'm pretty sure I'll never find the perfect balance. On the whole though it went well, yes I didn't manage to suit as much as I would have liked and I had some DJ derps that really irked me for making such errors. I did though manage to get all of the suits I brought into the photoshoot so I can actually get a memory of being there.
I'd liked to have spent more time actually with people, but I did manage to find time to actually sit down here and there which was a big thing for me. I don't do well sitting down and feel the need to constantly move around. I find that I'm happiest when I'm helping someone or doing things for other people. Be it helping set up a dealers table with them, loaning out my own equipment and supplies or doing some extra driving to make life easier. I did miss actually some time with people I dearly wanted to spend with them.
I think I'm also getting the hang of this event presenting thing at last. The dance contest went much better this year as I felt more comfortable in what I was doing and how to actually do it all. Time to keep on trying and get new things on it all.

After Nordicfuzzcon
General | Posted 9 years agoNow it's been a few days since I've gotten back from Nordicfuzzcon it's time to write up a little review. Having been rather short on holiday this year I wasn't able to join the annual bus trip out and back and instead had to fly. As much as I missed the social nature of the trip, I really do love flying. I find it still a special experience that has all sorts of little quirks and aspects most people tend to miss when they are in a rush. Some find it strange that I will still usually fly in a shirt and smart clothing, but it's what I like to do and I get a lot less hassle from security.
This year I changed my role at the convention to focus more on the AV side of things. I've worked medical services at a number of events and cons, done it at work and with St. John. It all became less enjoyable to constantly do the same things. The AV is something of a different thing, I've always tried to listen to what was going on around me with the sound and lights and found something that I enjoyed doing that is not related to my day job. So that's a really nice way to relax at an event. The sound desk at the Nordic hotel isn't too bad, except one channel that always has fuzz on it. Most amusing of all was the label I stuck on last year for the lighting positions.... it was still there when we arrived this year.
The lighting desk was as always it's own special thing, faders that sort of worked on the timer and mostly just strangely set up. A real fond memory most people won't have seen was myself and Fuzzy working the lights during the shows manually with the faders and getting some pretty good runs going. It's amazing how the small things seem to stick.
I particularly need to thank
ceiliguliminix and Fuzzy as well as others for offering to loan me laptops. Mine was accidently misplaced before loading and didn't make it to Sweden. Without them it would have been near impossible to run the music at the back. I like my sound desk when it can actually play things!
For a nice time I always went out suiting in Silver, usually I would have a toony suit with me, but flying and equipment needing to be brought meant I could only take the one suit. It was nice to focus the time on one, even if I'd have liked to have spent more time out and about.
For me one of the biggest highlights of the convention was the Dead Dog party. It's a time to play silly music, more silly music and have fun. Playing with Ceil, Fuzzy, Cheetah and we even brought
zidthewerewolf in. I have a feeling we may have corrupted him into a cheese DJ, oh well ;)
Also thanks to forfaox for putting up with me in the room.
This year I changed my role at the convention to focus more on the AV side of things. I've worked medical services at a number of events and cons, done it at work and with St. John. It all became less enjoyable to constantly do the same things. The AV is something of a different thing, I've always tried to listen to what was going on around me with the sound and lights and found something that I enjoyed doing that is not related to my day job. So that's a really nice way to relax at an event. The sound desk at the Nordic hotel isn't too bad, except one channel that always has fuzz on it. Most amusing of all was the label I stuck on last year for the lighting positions.... it was still there when we arrived this year.
The lighting desk was as always it's own special thing, faders that sort of worked on the timer and mostly just strangely set up. Cologne Fur Dance
General | Posted 10 years agoWell over the previous weekend I'd been out to CFD. They've moved to a new venue in the same city and it was a vast improvement in terms of space and having hotel rooms on site. No trekking around or long drives afterwards at silly AM. I'd recommend going along to it and spending some extra time going around. There's a lot to do in the area and it's packed with history and attractions.
The most surprising thing of the whole event was (so far as I am aware) not a single lift broke. I feel this is some sort of a record for an event :)

General | Posted 10 years agoIt occurred to me that I haven't actually written anything up about going to Nordicfuzzcon this year. I spent a lot of time working again this year, but had some very nice moments of playing silly music at people. It did start out sensible in the opening ceremony, but sort of... well got silly from there on out. I'm quite pleased I managed to fit in the Animals of Farthing Wood in English and Swedish, the Swedish Frog song and others.
I did have a couple of wobbles during the convention, mostly I'm putting it all down to just being tired and a bit stressed here and there. All in all it was an enjoyable time, with some people the only time I ever get to see them is at conventions and you have to make the most of the time you have. I think I managed to take a few pictures on my phone, but once again will be trawling through all the photo sites for any of myself in suit.
