less than 2 days left HOMESTUCK ADVENTURE GAME!
Posted 13 years agoI don't normally plug this kinda stuff but figure I'd put the word out there in case anyone wants in but isn't aware of what's going on...
As an internet inhabitant, a comic fan, and (former, I guess) webcomic maker I'm a long time fan of Hussy, from the days of when his site was called teamspecialolympics XD
Humanimals anyone?!!
I hadn't gotten into Homestuck / mspaint adventures until this year and it took me even longer to realize it was hussy's creation! Dude is amazing.
So now he has a kickstarter going to make a homestuck-themed adventure videogame. It's not supposed to be the plot of homestuck or necessarily even any of the characters, just "in the world"
I'm not usually a gamer but I do like me some adventure games!
Now if you're like me your first thought is skepticism: "WTF why should I buy a game that doesn't even exist yet most people have ideas for videogames and fail miserably at actually making anything"
I'll tell you why I trust Hussy; A) the man ain't planning to do it all himself from scratch, he's going to contract with an actual videogame company and work with them to make it. B) he does already have minigames he made for his site and c) dude's got a lot of experience with larger projects, from graphic novels to now the homestuck omnibus/empire. He's proved he's got staying power, not just someone out to grab a little attention and cash and disappear again.
Plus, there is cool swag to be had!
So if any of that sounds interesting to you, check out the homestuck kickstarter (already funded, but the more they get, the better the budget for the game, also likely this price is a cheaper presale price - though things often go for steam on cheap packages after a while I know!)

BITBADGE COMMISSIONS OPEN - MAY ONLY!
Posted 13 years agoI'm having fun making these! So I'm opening for commissions for a short time if anyone's interested.
These are "ladder" commissions.
$15 - animated icon: example 1 example 2 example 3
$25 - animated icon PLUS 2 piece 3"x4" acrylic badge and dongle of the pixel icon: Example (you can choose the colors)
$50 - animated icon PLUS multicolor 3"x4" acrylic badge and dongle of the pixel icon: Example 1, Example 2
I can also do other acrylic commissions, just ask!
TOS: Badges and dongles will be available for pickup at AC or I will give you a full refund. Icons will similarly be done by AC. If you cannot pick up the pieces at AC I can mail them to you for the cost of shipping (usually ~$7 within the US).
AFTER MAY I AM MOVING AND WILL NOT HAVE LASER ACCESS!
I will try to check notes here frequently but silvergrin[at]gmail.com is ideal for contact.

MFF comic maker panel!
Posted 14 years agoSunday, 3-4pm, tech center!
If you make comics, or want to make comics, I hope you'll come!
I'm going to talk a little about comic art, writing, and putting your work out there. Hopefully I will have some co-panelists :B (if you make comics and are interested, note me!)
After that, comic swap! Bring ashcans (small cheap samples), short scripts, outlines, art... whatever! Trade and share, discuss the comics you make, want to make, and your favorite (small press*) comics
*I have tons of love for x-men, batman, Allan Moore, etc, but I'm trying to focus on comic's you make or would like to make here.

New community: HORRORFURS
Posted 14 years ago:P
horrorfurs
I made a community! I have no idea what I'm doing!!!
The idea is basically to get a collection of folks who like the more horrific side of anthros. Or just horror without the anthros. Anyone can join, by which I mean, PM an intro of themselves and a submission (any media, any skill) to be reposted to the com. I figure /if/ there's interest and participation, then the gallery will end up being a nice showcase of folks and their interests.
Maybe also have discussion journals on must-see horror ____ (movies, books, whatever), talk about new movies, con offerings and reports, whatever!
I made it because I'd like there to be one but as far as I know, there isn't :X Except furfright, which is a con not an FA community.
Also... how do I advertise this without being obnoxious? If/when people join and there are submissions to upload, that should raise visibility, but I can't figure out if there's a way of inviting people without looking pushy.

THE BEST OF ROOM 366!
Posted 14 years agoSo a certain video has been making the rounds
Privacy issues and the wisdom of posting something online you don't want going public aside, YES! I love it. I love the fandom's ridiculous rep. I love that these guys aren't doing anything terribly explicit and it's extremely kinky. To some people. (most won't care though. Sorry fursecution junkies, most people Just. Don't. Care. )
And most of all, I love what happens when a scrap of material gets processed by the internet.
THAT ONE SUIT, AWESOME NIGHTMARE FUEL
(if you made and/or own the suit - keep rocking it, it brings me much joy)
Hitler's reaction
Although I love it. Keep talking about it. This is my favorite kind of drama. I hope "room 366" now and forever means "room full of fursuiters dancing gaily"
I'm not ranting, I'm sharing! And I want more! Post your favorite fallout from the video. <3 Or Something Completely Different!

I has table! AC 2011
Posted 14 years agoWhelp! I'm gonna try this dealers room thang :B
Feel free to stop by and chats! No obligation to buy stuff, I'm mostly doing this for fun, since AC tables aren't too expensive.
But, if you're curious as to what I'm offering:
Snake photography cards!
Comic books!
And uh, maybe a few commissions.
-- $10 sketch commissions
-- $30 inked
Badges? I dunno... I have the parts but don't have a lot of time to make samples.

post AC post
Posted 15 years agoYAAAAYYYYY
AC was fabulous as always :)
But first off - BIG APOLOGIES if you were looking for me in the AA this year - I got waitlisted. XP Whenever the day comes that I can actually plan ahead for AC (probably when I can schedule breaks properly cuz I have a Jorb) I'll try to get a dealer's table so I don't have to deal with this unpredictableness.
Also I was told costume accessories that go ON fursuits weren't ok to sell at the AA which was weird but eh, their con, their rules.
As always it's the people that makes AC the best! I got to hang out at least a little with all the folks that were there and wanted to hang out with :) Shoutouts to soba, mulefoot, wgg, kendra, Tri, xyloart, cypherwulf, ramsey, and ec major!! Special thanks to wgg and soba for helping me with my last-minute duct-tape costume mods XD And mulefoot for the cigar!
This was the Con Of Iniquity! I got drunk for the first time in my life at the wine tasting XD See I don't normally see the point of becoming inebriated, but I like tasting wines! But to taste the next wine one must finish what's in their glass ;) So what the heck, I figured it'd be fun once.
And then the neighbors came in... they took a shine to me and demonstrated their affection by slapping me with a horse dildo. So of course I punched them in the gut and grabbed the genital replica from them, crowning myself with the spoils. XP UHHHH...
I did not puke or have to crawl anywhere, that wouldn't have been fun! This was cool but next year I think I'll just taste out of D's glass cuz I prefer being sober.
Drum circle - well unfortunately there was Roof Drama so though Wgg'd made the rooftop drum circle an official con event ONLY 35 PEOPLE WERE ALLOWED UP AT A TIME XP Kind of redic it's a huge roof but I guess they wanted to be sure they could keep an eye on everyone. Really put a damper on things, I'm sure many more people wanted to come up and participate but didn't want to wait in line, and I don't blame them. I had to wait too, but I did get up and dance and chant like a person possessed ;) (ie, probably badly)
ART: well like I said the AA didn't work out at all. Art show didn't seem to do that well either, but apparently 2 more pieces sold by the time I left - I left early Sunday so someone else picked up my stuff for me. So I feel a little better about that. Overall I feel kind of dumb for focusing so hard on the art show, to the point of possibly neglecting AA stuff had it happened. It seemed like commissions were selling much better than art show??? Not that I'm complaining about OH NOZ MY ART DIDN'T SELL but I'm just trying to figure out how to maximize con time, and getting money to buy more furry stuff is a part of that for me :B
Also very happy I got to smoke and hang with mulefoot. Con events don't do much for me, it's all about the people!

OH oh OH AC
Posted 15 years agoWell
this is a terrible idea
I was so sure AC would be in July I didn't even look at the dates
And I was sure I wouldn't be able to go
But it turns out AC is exactly when I could go
This is crazy
it cannot be denied
it was meant to be
I WILL BE AT AC :O
... also it'd be just fantastic if anyone wanted to rideshare any part along the way from IL to PA :P

Freebs round 2
Posted 16 years agoWell I consider freeb round 1 a great success... bumped me out of a bit of a rut I was in, AND stuff sold well at the con :D I mean, out of 5, 4 sold, 3 went above my min price, and 1 (mana wurms) went to auction!!! That's a first for me and I am very flattered, especially since I heard art show sales were down u-u
So with an eye towards AC, I'm gonna do it again :) THIS time I would prefer the theme to be TWO CHARS, interacting in some way. I'd like ta work on that and it's more interestin.
The rules again are:
One each, an if I already did ya one that counts. I will post them on FA and note you or something. These'll take a long time ta do and no guarantee I will actually do 'em or that it will be everything you always dreamed of and if if that's gonna bother ya then don't ask. My plan is to put the results up for sale at AC's art show.
Legalease crud: I reserve the right to use any arts that I make for advertising / portfolio / gallery / whatevers. Also to polish and sell originals if I see fit. What I won't do is make prints for selling and I will cite whose idea it is.
ALSO THERE IS LITTLE I WON'T DO XD Pretty much my only rule is no sexualizing minors nope nope.
So if you're not cool with that that's okay, just ignore this.

outta my skull - freebs
Posted 16 years agoAll the arts that currently come to mind now are fairly complicated and challenging and what... or lame stuff I draw all the time anyway.
I have the urge to do somethings fun and easy and get outta my head.
So, free char sketches to the first... eh, five folks responding. Maybe more if those go okay. One each damnit. I will post them on FA and note you or something when I do them. No I don't know when I'll have them done by, and if I maybe decide not to do yours after all don't get bent out of shape. Or don't ask.

Are you taken?
Yes.
Can I talk to you?
I like talking to folks... for about 1 minute. Then I must hide lest you glimpse my True Nature.
Can I touch you?
Sure - I'll always take a free lunch, and limbs are filling and nutritious.
Can I hang out with you?
Only if you're wearing a silly hat.
How can I find you?
You can't. It's impossible. But if you want to try anyway, your best bet is to look for something very bright and shiny, or Totally Ridiculous.

Parasites! Strepsiptera!
Posted 17 years agoParasites private lives
LA LA LA castrates crabs invades snail eyeballs yeah yeah I've read about most of them several times over but the Strepsiptera was new and interesting!
"a male Strepsiptera... with unusual eyes, whose structure is partially shared only by the long-extinct Trilobita... The mature female is easy to identify once you know where to look, as her head protrudes noticeably from the exoskeleton of her host. It is through this end of her body that she performs all reproductive functions, releasing a mating pheremone, copulating, and depositing live larva all through an orifice in her face. One can only imagine how it feels for a small, flying male to chase you down and mate with the head sticking out of your back
AHH, NOW THAT'S SOME GOOD HORROR! AND MAYBE AN AWESOME NEW FETISH!

aww yeah, fedex cert!!!
Posted 17 years ago@-@ I am going so nuts without an LJ to broadcast my headdrippings at an unsuspecting public! (or select friends list)
AAAAAA!
SO HAVE MY THOUGHTS! TAKE 'EM! TAKE 'EM! UNF UNF!
holleeeey crap! I just might get fedex certified to ship snakes!!! It's not really *that* major a deal, EXCEPT IT IS!!! I have been trying to do this FOR YEARS (admittedly not very hard). First I tried in like, 2004?? And kept getting the run around at the live animal desk. Then I tried in 2006?? And the rep never called me back. And I tried last year?? But I couldn't figure out how to get ahold of a rep (now I know the magic buzzwords).
The problem was only a very few people even seemed to know that FedEx would do this. And FedEx is just about the only company willing to knowingly ship live harmless reptiles, and has the best reputation for shipping things reliably and not like, playing parcel-soccer or leaving your herp on a sunny doorstep to roast without knocking or whatever. I've not wanted to ship snakes unless I could do so 100% legal and above-board, and safely.
So now I'm trying again. and OMG I left a voicemail with my rep last night AND emailed another guy someone recommended, and BOTH got back to me this morning!!! AAAA, I guess times are hard enough, and/or word has spread enough, that it's really gonna happen! I'm gonna get certified baby! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
(lol whut finals?)

Posted 17 years agoAn apology to "women who run with the wolves"
Posted 17 years agoMy last entry was wayyyy too vague!
I owe an apology to the book "Women Who Run with the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype" for confusing it with the book "Women Who Run With the Werewolves: Tales of Blood, Lust and Metamorphosis"
I have not read "women who run with the wolves" but I HAVE had the dubious pleasure of reading "women who run with the werewolves" as I ran across it in my voracious werewolf lit days. And it's hard to be a worse book/anthology than "women who run with the werewolves" so I speculate I have very wrongly maligned the "wolves" version. (Although, I'd not be surprised if the title similarity were intentional on the "werewolves" part!)
Women who run with the werewolves is - wait for it - an angry lesbian werewolf anthology in the worst possible way. I've read a chunk of various feminist and gender study literature by now, and it may be one of the best menstruation-obsessed, man-hating/stereotyping collections the genre has to offer! (to be PC, I'm sure I would be equally unfond of penis-obsessed woman-hating gay man literature but I really haven't read much of that)
If you don't believe me, look inside at the sample XD The only good story was "boobs" and that appears in several other, better, anthologies.

Women Who Run With the Werewolves, eh!
Posted 17 years agoSo eh! Women Who Run With the Werewolves, eh! Tales of Blood, Lust and Metamorphosis, eh! It's a really good book, eh?

AC... can you find me?
Posted 17 years agoI'm going to be sneaking at AC! And... um, probably impossible to find. But if you do, it's all good.

I just got to thinking about color symbolism, western color symbolism to be precise. As I understand it, different cultures can have some very different color connotations. For example, traditionally in china white was the color of death (and, I believe, worn for funerals), and red was the color of health and weddings. Whereas in the US black is the color for death/funerals and white is supposed to be "virginal" and "pure" and weddings. :P
To be even more specific, I was thinking of colors as they apply to a person or mood. For example "green with envy" "purple with rage" "white as a ghost" etc. So! Here's my list of colors/emotions to chew on... let me know what you think (if you have any to add, if you know of a different connotation in another culture, if you think any are "reaching", etc)
Red - can be embarassment (flushing) or, sometimes, anger
orange - nothing?!
yellow - cowardice. Sometimes, sickness (long-term kind, jaundice)
green - envy, or, again, sickness (though of the "I'm gonna hurl!" kind, usually)
blue - sad
purple - rage
white - fear, scared
black - general "dark mood" (depression, anger, brooding)
grey - old
glowing - happy

Waddya want?
Posted 18 years agoI may be here to stay. I had my doubts; I've tried these online galleries before and I've always lost interest. Elfwood, VCL... Dev Art was too clunky to even try. But, I think I like it here. Pull up a chair and let's chat, cozy like.
So, waddya want? As an artist, a shifter, a supposed canid, I adapt to my environment, almost unthinkingly. Seeing as this is a furry site, I find myself suddenly wanting to post pr0n and immature gobblygook, things I have formerly shied from making public. I also feel trepidation at posting anything non-anthro related, though it seems to be allowed. And as a creator I kind of hate posting redundant content, even though as an internet connoisseur I hate having to chase a favorite artist through scattered and ill-connected sites XP I have my own website as well as two livejournals (one for art, one for personal stuff); what crossover should there be with FA?
You, my friend, can help me resolve these conflicting impulses! Please, no "you should do whatever you want with your gallery!" unless you truly have no personal preference and wish to leave such weighty matters entirely in my nubbly paws. Yes, I mostly draw what I want and take pleasure in (although I believe the fundamental core of art is communication, so the audience will almost always effect what one creates; however I am more than content with pleasing a select few who share my peculiar mental palate). That's well and good for what I draw, but what I post here is for your edification! Posting takes precious time; not much, true, but I don't care to do it if you don't want to see it. So, kindly respond to this survey and share with me your thoughts and predilections.
Pr0n: This is just a theoretical question. I usually don't make erotica past cheesecake because my lusts are... horrible. And what would be the point of making smut I didn't find erotic? Still, the indulgent tone of the fandom makes me almost want to go there, sometimes, just a little. Just to see if I could pull it off... but, even if I did, I'd probably be too nervous of putting anything up publicly, especially under a monkier that's not too hard to trace to my *gasp* Real Identity! Still, never know. What do you want?
a) No. I *really* don't want to know about your fantasies, and as it is, the fandom has enough furverts giving us a bad rep, thank you very much!
b) whatever
c) Sure! I like your art and I don't mind sexuality and violence.
d) Yes please! I have terrible unnatural lusts too! *fap fap fap*/*shlup shlup shlup*
e) (your comment here)
Anthros: Do you want to see anthros only? Or are pure animals, humans, fantasy, abstract, photos of baby snakes, etc okay?
a) This is an anthro site; that's what I'm interested in. And no photos unless they're very artistic.
b) whatever
c) try to keep things topical, but as long as you think there's a connection, go for it. A few snake photos are good, but link to offsite galleries in the submission rather than posting more than one a season or so.
d) Post everything, everything! Even fruit basket arrangements and architectural drawings if ya got 'em!
e) (your comment here)
Sketches: Do you want to see bits of my sketchbook, works in progress, and raw drawings?
a) not really. Finished stuff only, please
b) I'd like to see any sketches you consider decent, but don't plan to take further. A few dramatic WIPs are good, too.
c) whatever
d) I want to see as much as you're willing to scan!
e) (your comment here)
Scraps: This scraps section looks cool, but mysterious to me. I'm not entirely sure how best to use it. A quick perusal of the FAQ and discussion forums don't provide any insight... maybe you know?
a) put everything you wouldn't frame in the scraps. Your gnoll sketch and SLOP fanart should be in there, by the way *grumble*
b) very rough stuff and works-in-progress (that will be posted here in their final form) should go in scraps. Anything you particularly like or think interesting, no matter how rough, should be in the gallery!
c) whatever
d) scraps? Don't use it; it'll just look like you're posting crap in your normal gallery to people watching.
e) (your comment here)
Comic: I have a comic. Durr. I wouldn't call it a "furry" comic, but anthro-things make their way into it now and then, in a Calvin and Hobbs'ish sort of way. I know FA is pretty crappy as a stand-alone comic archive (the read-through navigation... *shudder*) which is natural and good because it's designed as a stand-alone art gallery, not a sequential one. But FA could be another spiffy notification and feedback system. I do already have a blog AND a mailing list, and of course, my website for actually *reading* the comic. So... should I post the comic here as well?
a) No, FA isn't good for sequential art, and it will dilute your gallery. If you want to promote, post anthro-containing stand-alone art pieces inspired by or from your comic, and link gratuitously to your website and blog.
b) Post all the covers, character sketches and maybe particularly choice pages you like, anthro or no. But don't post every ol' page.
c) Whatever
d) Post everything!!! Lots of people post comics on FA. The more the merrier :) Use this for navigation too!
e) (your comment here)
redundancy: I think I know the answer to this one, but maybe I'll be surprised. Do you care if there's a lot of the redundant material between my FA stuff, my website, and my blog?
a) This site is different from your other sites; the content should be different as well. Just keep your links well-placed and informative so I can follow them if I'm interested.
b) Some overlap is okay, but it's nice to have some unique stuff on each. For example, furry stuff here, comic stuff there, and everything else on the blog.
c) whatever
d) Arrrg, I hate chasing artists through a bunch of completely different sites! Post everything here, there, and everywhere!
e) (your comment here)
Stupidity: Do you want to see my stupidity? My Mary Sues, my wallowing "poetry", my stumbling attempts at writing?
a) Hell no! There's enough crap on the internet; you are right to shield us from yours!
b) Well, okay, so long as you know it's crap, we can all laugh at it together. Just don't post *lots* of it, pretty please?
c) Whatever
d) I want to see! Maybe it's not as bad as you think! Maybe we can figure out how to make it not-crap! Maybe we can learn something! Practice makes perfect! Share!
