Silvermoonfox 2019! Long overdue update
Posted 6 years agoI have been away for 2 years it seems. I'm not going into overwhelming detail, but my job is challenging and I finished my degree! So now I'm just working anywhere from 36 to 50+ hours a week nursing. It is a great career, but my student loans are going to kill me to pay back.
My mom's cancer is still in complete remission! I sold my house in my previous town. My new puppy is now a beautiful floofy dog. I got into weight lifting. So life is going pretty good. Other than student loans, lol. I hope to catch up here a little, draw a lot more and maybe...enjoy life a little more than I have been.

Cancer Update
Posted 8 years agoI am...really trying not to fail one of my classes, so sorry, I've been just...gone. Good (or bad, not sure) news is that finals are the next two weeks! The bad part is one of my assignments is like 20 hours of reading that I...didn't really do yet so I'll be really gone until then.
My mom's post surgery cancer screening came back negative! They are considering her cured, although we will be looking over our shoulders for the next decade to be sure.
For those who may not of known, my mom, with a very healthy lifestyle, was diagnosed with the deadlier version of lung cancer, which was caught on a baseline xray by accident at an incredibly early stage. As a baseline, I work in the medical field and have seen the same cancer metastasize at a 10th the size of the tumor hers was.
New job is terrifyingly hard, but I'm good at it. I'm scraping by in school, but what'd you expect, I'm working 50 hours a week with small kids, my mom and renovating the old house which has not sold. People in my area are struggling currently so we've been asked to rent it (thus the renovations, which are completed, to make it move in ready).

I've had some bad news...going to be absent a little while
Posted 8 years agoFirst of all, we are alive, all of us. The old house hasn't sold yet, but it will and we can afford both but I'd really like it sold by Christmas. The new house is awesome! I injured my knee moving heavy furniture up the stairs, but it is...healing ish.
I've dropped off the face of the earth for a reason, unfortunately and it wasn't just "I was so busy, etec, etec!"
Soon after my move, we found out that my mom (healthy, young, fit, veganish, rarely drinks, never smoked) has lung cancer. Like the really nasty stuff that kills half it's victims in 6 months. It was literally found by accident. She had a test done to take a picture of her heart for a baseline for later since we have a strong streak of heart disease in the family. It has been an agonizing wait and test and wait some more.
And doctor appointments, and me trying to keep up the minimum in school and working full time learning a very complex new job. I'm saving other people and I just want to save her.
We finally had some good news and that although the tumor is very large, it is a single tumor, stage 1 (which almost never ever happens). It is a very serious surgery in a very...bleedy area of the body. But it is coming up soon and I really ask for your prayers that it is safe surgery and that they get it all.
In response to the stress, my body did a weird thing and I puffed up like a marshmallow, especially my joints which hurt like a MFer. I hadn't been eating very much and my body went into eating itself and some wires got crossed. It seems that it spurred either an autoimmune thing or a serious allergic reaction. I was immediately taken off my meds and put on other ones. It took a week for the swelling to go down. I still have a hard time sitting in hard chairs. I seem to be better but I have to eat protein powder every meal and sleep with my feet elevated. Once my electrolytes get a little more stable, I can take a water pill to get rid of the rest of the water weight.
I mean, I've had my trials, but everything was fine and I coped. This is like...the month from hell. So I'm four weeks behind in one class and 1 week behind in another and the third I'm not technically behind, but I need to get my butt on it.

NEW house soon! I'm exhausted!
Posted 8 years agoSo...yes, sorry for really going poof. I haven't sat down in ages, it seems. I've been clearing out my current house a lot.
My new job...is...well, awesome, but also like way more hours than I thought I was going to get because of call. I'm working 6 days a week and cleaning the house on the 7th day so that we can show it to sell. And squeezing in my online classes after hours because they started not long ago (thankfully only 20 hours a week instead of the 38 hours I had originally planned). Getting home repairs done here, hunting down old records for our mortgage on the new house which should go to underwriting tomorrow. We move in two weekends from now, but I've cleared half the stuff out of this house before hand.
Long story short, Zodiak (my mate, for those who don't know), is a bit of a hoarder. I gave away a truckload of stuff and threw away almost as much. Our loan for the new house went kinda rocky because appraisers are asshats. The appraisal went well, from what I heard (haven't seen the real thing yet) but they took every day the law allowed to ignore the job. Pushed our closing ten days.
I plan to get back on track here soon (if I can get caught up on my school work *sigh*). The nice thing is that we get both houses for a couple weeks so I can keep internet once place while the other gets set up. If you are on my worklist and maybe you've changed your mind due to the change in timeline, just let me know by note, even if I already got you a sketch. I wouldn't be surprised if it takes me a couple months, to be honest.
I am looking forward to:
-Five minute commute to work
-1 minute commute to kids' school.
-7 minutes to the pool/gym/after school program
-much safer neighborhood
-climate control in every room, not just the main living space.
-no more repair projects (for a while, at least)
-my own office (currently camping in the corner of my daughter's bedroom/kids' playroom, so as you can imagine...I can't draw any adult stuff while they are awake).
-weather that is not freakin' 100+ degrees!
-getting to draw for fun, not because I have to eat :3 (not that I don't enjoy it, there is just something about that which really drains the fun out of it, y'know)

45$ Pinup commissions CLOSED!
Posted 8 years agoIt is that time again! As you may have heard, I'm starting my new job in a couple weeks, but I gots bills to pay up until then. I've really been enjoying these pinup commissions. You can see my gallery full of them now. The plan is to open 6 slots today. If I get them done before the next two weeks are up, I'll open a couple more slots.
Style is pinup or something that sorta runs in that mill. Full body or mostly full body (artistically cropped). I've been enjoying expressive posing (doesn't have to be cheesecake). Clothed, naked, bathing suit, lingerie, undies, whatever. I'll send you a sketch to approve. Payment is USD by paypal after completion.
Examples are:
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/24005858/
https://www.furaffinity.net/view/24012500/
(if you are trying to figure out my progress, I sketch, then color, then draw/render the background, then shade, then "final details" include coloring lines, highlights, special effects and such and are last. Each of these commissions take me about 4 hours to complete but my home-life is hectic, so sometimes I get a couple done in a day, sometimes I get half of one done. Occasionally I get stuck at the sketching step because I wont finish a sketch I don't like.)
Slots:
1.
Ubervoop Status: Awaiting details
2.
Ataris sketching
3.
loboguara (YCH) Shading/background
4.
odinKiller90 not started
5. Closed
6. Closed
*edit: I've closed the last couple as I've done a crazy thing and put an offer on a house closer to work so I'm starting to pack, clean, repair my current home to sell it. I'll finish my queue and I'll keep you updated, but if I go poof, I will be back with at least an update within a week. It probably means that I got an offer on this house that required us to move out sooner.
Feel free to note me or comment here to claim a slot.

Update for this coming week(s)
Posted 8 years agoI did get the job that I interviewed for and I start working at the hospital in a couple weeks!
I'm going to continue with commissions until then (and maybe a little during because it takes a few weeks to get a paycheck) which you will see posted in journals. Might do a YCH or two. I'm not posting openings for next week yet because I'm going to be "out of the office" for a couple days. I'll be back Sunday and will post something then! (I also won't be getting much art done during those two days, sadly, but I promise, I'll be right back!)
Even when I start working, I might have a few commissions open, and of course, I'll have some smexy personal art to share. And gifts that I've been meaning to make for a long time.

Posted 8 years agoI'm nearly done with the last batch (sitting here waiting for people to reply to notes ;) ) and I know I have four days that I can work on art work next week. Crossing my fingers for a job offer that would likely start on the 24th, so this might be my last batch for a while.

I have graduated and gotten my nursing license!
Posted 8 years agoI took my boards and got my RN. Now just waiting on some job application processes. I'll be opening some pin up art commissions, stuff I feel like drawing, here for the interim time this summer. I'm catching up a little on the art here. I'm going right into a continuing education program to get my advanced degree starting in the Fall, so it will...be back to crazy again when summer is over, but hopefully I'll be a little less "broke college student".
Having a little bit of a time focusing on anything. It is also super hot here today as babyfox has figured out how to turn off the air conditioner and wont leave it on. Otherwise, I hope to have a productive summer! Currently catching up on personal art. My poor neglected girls.

In the thick of school
Posted 8 years agoSorry to have dropped off the face of the earth lately. I'm trying to get a couple hours here and there to draw, mostly to calm myself down because nursing school is being fierce right now. My other hobbies have been pushed aside, my house looks like it was ransacked, and I'm doing my best to keep the depression at bay (those with long term depression will kinda know the feeling of "I'm too busy to be depressed so instead I always feel exhausted and eat my feelings rather than deal with them". I'll get a mild break here this weekend as the midterm hits (as I'm one of the few people with a week between clinical runs). Bad thing is I've been procrastinating more than I should so I hope I'm not held up with late paperwork.
And I know this is a longshot, but I'm writing a rather detailed report on Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and if anyone maybe has it or is in the medical field knows a very useful resource I can get to, that would be awesome. I'm okay with buying a reasonably priced eBook on amazon or something. My typical reference material has 2 measly pages on the material, which I can use, but my imagination is really bridging the gap, and while I found out that what I'm thinking is accurate...I need literature to back me up. I turn the paper in on Friday. Best if it is in medical terms.
And on the bright side, no clinical paperwork for my last term so I'll be better able to separate life and work/school.

Speed paint video?
Posted 9 years agoI'm thinking of trying to record my drawing process and uploading it as a video on youtube sped up, of course. I might cut strait to coloring and shading because when I ink, I rotate the canvas a lot and I've noticed that tends to make watchers seasick when it is high speed. I would show the sketch for a few seconds, then the inks, then continue the picture.
Is there a gold standard of recording software (Free or cheap preferred) ? I have 2 very small children so I tend to work in 20 minute bursts in between breaking up fights, picking up toys, cleaning messes and getting 10 cups of water an hour, so something easy to pause. Because of this, I figure that streaming would be agonizing to watchers unless I get a sitter and just go for it or broadcast at 5am for 90 minutes.
Also, I love the hell out of Pokemon Go. I own 6 gyms currently. I also say "boop" out loud every time I hit the pokemon on the head or nose with the pokeball.

I'm Allliiiiiiiveeee! (summer vacation has begun!)
Posted 9 years agoWhew, I made it through the nursing school year. I'd like to thank
bluemidnightwolf for your amazing patience. I'll be finishing that piece up here soon and then doing some personal art to celebrate my personal freedom. I got slivers of free time during the year to draw, but nothing I was organized enough to do anything big. I might get to catch up here a little bit but I have graduations and graduation parties all this weekend. Well, graduation and neopets Altador Cup, which I'm helplessly addicted to.

Nursing school is crazy
Posted 10 years agoJust a heads up, this program is intense. This school boasts an extremely high NCLEX pass rate and is one of the top 10 programs in the country. Part of the reason for this is the intense amount of homework, studying and reading, as I found out this week. There is about 20+ hours of class, 20+ hours studying, and 20 hours of reading alone (this is NOT including homework). I've heard that when clinicals start (aka unpaid internship, for those not familiar with medical education programs) next week, the reading gets reduced a bit, which is good because it is 16 hours of clinicals a week.
I didn't get much sleep last week. I've found ways to study more efficiently, so that might help me free up some time. But I do have the weekends free! Well, with exception of about 4 hours a day studying or doing homework. I really need to get my current commission list done, but they can only be done on the weekend, so I apologise for the wait.
But stay tuned! I really want to draw some personal art soon, to kinda get me through this.

And like that, Summer is over
Posted 10 years agoI'm closing commissions to finish up the queue I currently have. I thought I would get a lot done today but I used all my free time cleaning and packing. I'll be out of town for the weekend, but I'll try to poke online once or twice to answer any messages. I start school up week after next. It looks like I only have weekday clinicals, so I might be able to do some commissions over the weekend. I'll have to test the waters first, and by that, I mean see how much studying I will need to do. For those who may not know, I made it into a prestigious nursing school this year after finishing 2 years of prerequisites in just a year (well, about a quarter of them I had from my previous degree). I've heard it is hardcore, but then again, that was from the same people who thought I should take 2 years for my prereqs.
Anyhow, I'll post journals if I have commission specials over the weekends (like same day/next day quick commissions).

Sorry for being slow lately
Posted 10 years agoIt is a combination of having my birthday this week (everyone has invited us out to eat and such), potty training a really stubborn kid and my internet working at a crawl. Mostly the internet thing. I get frustrated waiting half a minute for one screen so I throw things and have a fit. Qwest might come fix it, but they are in denial. Hoping to switch to Charter once they have a special where they don't charge for install because that is expensive and it isn't really any cheaper because we don't watch TV.
Looking for Scenic inspiration
Posted 10 years agoI'm going to be taking my beautiful canon eos camera and take some picture of my home (the pacific northwest) and want to use them to paint backgrounds for my pictures.
I'm interested to know what you guys might like. So far, the ideas I have are to take pictures of the wheat fields and my favorite hiking trail, as well as the bedroom sets at Macy's (heheh, I think they found me a little creepy, but dang, those dusters are pretty). Sorta wondering if I can ask the local historical hotel if I can take pictures of their rooms.Do you think I might get some good reference pictures if I go to an antique store, or would they be too cluttered?
Does anyone else do this? I mean, I take some awkward selfies to reference my anatomy all the time (like srsly, I had the most weird look on my face trying to get just the right angle for my arm and hand.

Almost back
Posted 10 years agoSeems like I've been gone forever! Long story short, it is a lot of work being a nursing student. I got into the prestigious RN program officially after knocking out all my science prereqs. I'm doing well, I have a 4.0, but these classes are tough. I have to finish up anatomy and physiology 2 and 3 and a nursing class with clinicals this quarter, but I only have 2 and a half weeks left! It has really felt like I have no personal life at all as of late. I hope to be able to open up cheap same day commissions once I'm back officially. I have an online job too, so I won't be able to go crazy. If I really need money, I might work for the place that I'm doing clinicals offered to hire me as a CNA but I don't think I want to do that and I would rather take a break and work on artwork ;)
Full Quarter at School
Posted 10 years agoI had a bunch of crap come up during the holiday and now I'm a few weeks into my "hell quarter" as it is referred to. I'm taking 3 science courses at the same time (against the wishes of my advisors, but it has to be done) and one of them is Anatomy and Physiology which should be called "Learn 30 new terms a day for the next 10 weeks" and lets just say I can really win at scrabble now. I'm soaking it up but I normally only have to study like 20 minutes a day and now it is like 4 hours a day. Yup. So, I dunno how much time I'll have to draw for a little while. If I get a week where I don't have much due the next week, I'll open same day sketch commissions again. It is just for a little while. Next quarter I'll only have 12 credit hours and 7 of that is clinicals (aka, not much studying, but I work at a hospital for free to get my on the job training), so maybe I'll get a little more free time then.
For now, I shall try to just appreciate the art others are making (I fall behind on that too) and try to hold in the inspiration for a few more weeks.

Just life update, weekend plans
Posted 11 years agoOkay, yeah, the last week has been rough. I'm sorry to say I won't open my weekly sketch commissions because I just don't have...the time. Without getting into a ton of detail, my family is going through some stuff and I'm actually dealing with it pretty well other than it is just majorly depressing. The biggest problem is that since I was most qualified, I was the one talking an immediate family member out of doing something really stupid (and very illegal) and I'm not exactly a therapist, so it was majorly stressful. I THINK I got all my things sorted out in that aspect, but still depressing situation and BAM midterms are next week. Anywhoo, didn't want people to think I got offended by them or something and went poof in protest. Just life.
So I'm taking this weekend to get caught up on things I already owe, artwise; catch up on the housework that didn't get done last week, homework and study time, and maybe a little art therapy on stuff for myself. Yeah, because my heart feels like it went through the wringer.
OH! And I saw another furry when I was out and about! Well, I think it was. He was reading a furry book but I wasn't sure it was a furry book and had forgotten my phone so I couldn't google it and I'm like way too shy to just ask. So if you waited in line at the recycle center for an hour, I was the redhead behind you with the puffy eyes. Anyway, going to kick myself forever for not saying hi when I coulda. I live in a small town, so yeah. I only ever met other Furries when I lived in Connecticut.

Oh deary, those exams!
Posted 11 years agoI have one exam left this week and already took two. That was why I was not working commissions last weekend-that and my babysitters went on vacation. My classes also decided to dish out the homework last weekend. Let's just say I overstudied my bio class, but I feel it is worth it in the end so microbiology isn't such a leap next quarter.
My student loans are still on hold...boo. So things are still very tight. I'll be opening colored sketch commissions either tomorrow night or saturday morning. I'll figure out how many I can do when I line up babysitters and set up my schedule. Not much homework this weekend.
Oh, and the holidays are coming up! I keep forgetting that. And my son's 3rd birthday. So yup, I'll keep working.
Anyhow, I hope y'all are having a good october so far. It is hot as hell here.

Ah poop.
Posted 11 years agoWell, I know the title hints at a bummer and there were a couple, but first the good stuff. As some people might know, I'm a first year nursing student (third year student since I switched majors) and this was my first week of school. It went awesome. Not to brag, but my forte at school was math and science and those are the only kind of courses I have left. I'm aiming at a 4.0 so I might have to take a weekend off to study here and there but I think I can swing drawing on the weekends. Bonus to this profession and training, I'm going to learn a lot of anatomy. Tons of it. And because of my drawing background, I've already studied a bunch of medical sketches. I'm hoping further studies will help my drawing in return.
Because of the craziness that is my schedule, I'll likely open more Iron Artist commissions using SAI and quick prompts. They were more fun, a bit more relaxed, and my customers get something a bit more like I would draw for myself. I get kinda worried sometimes drawing commissions that someone wont like me trying new things. These are cheap enough I wouldn't worry about that XD. The price may fluctuate for a while before I get a good balance of time/skill vs. discount, but they should remain well worth the work ;)
Okay, now to the bummer part. My books were four times as much as advertised. Some classes said I could rent the book when that was made clear later it was not possible. And one class said it had one book when it turned out it also needed an online subscription and a piece of hardware. My student loans are on hold for 30 days because this is the first time borrowing. I was hoping to get away with borrowing my text books until then, but nope, had to put them on a high interest credit card. Same with the first two months of childcare.
Then my husband's car was broken into yesterday and they stole all his tools for work (he is an apprentice electrician so he owns all his tools and if he doesn't have them, he can't work, which means no pay). Yep, that went on the credit card too. So we are scrambling to make things work. I canceled my gym membership and that was pretty much the only thing we could cut from our tight budget without starving.
We are going to be doing everything we can to pay this stuff off quickly. My mate has volunteered for all the overtime he can get and has been working to the bone lately (which means I've had to sneak in homework while he is gone). I might get weekend work doing some odd jobs if I'm not busy enough with commissions.
But yeah, such is life. Sucks being broke and working for hardly anything. It might mean you may find a cheap used book from me. I have a small collection that I need to get rid of and need the money.
As for Iron Artist for this weekend, I'm still making sure I'm getting that chunk of time and some of it I want to dedicate to my last couple regular commissions. I'll post slots and prices once I figure that all out, likely after everyone else gets home from work.

Hey, FA!
Posted 11 years agoSince all I posted so far is boring stuff, I thought I would actually...post a real journal.
About me: I go by SilvermoonFox, or sometimes Aria as you might see me around.
I'm a 20-something mother of 2, happily married, so I'm not on this site to find someone ;) but I love meeting people here for friends so don't be afraid to say hi!
I'm horrible at replying to comments, but I read each one and appreciate them all. I feel like a spammer if what I have to say is only a couple words and not really needed. Thus it might look like I'm snooty or not listening, but really I'm smiling and quiet. If you have questions, I will do my best to answer quickly.
Sometimes my internet is crap, so you might see me online for a moment and I get to a note or something, but then I can't send my reply for a while. Okay, a lot of the time, my internet is crap. I think I have to swap ISPs but that is expensive.
I'm a nursing student! Thus me working on commissions is to try to keep my costs of that paid for. I don't start clinicals until next year so hopefully I'll get to keep drawing during the year. I have my core classes done and just have one more year of prereqs needed before I get to do the real stuff :)
Oh, I'm a fitness buff. I was chubby in high school-even middle school and much of my college days. I turned things around a few years ago and while I've been struggling with that final 15lbs, I'm at a healthy weight, run 20 miles a week and lift. So if you were ever looking at my pinterest account, you would see figure drawing, pin up stuff and fitness inspiration. LOL. I hope to run a marathon some day-well, a half marathon. If there is a furry marathon, you bet your butt I'm going to do whatever I can do to get there.
I'm always looking to improve, so if you have helpful tips or better yet, links to helpful guides and tutorials, I appreciate it.

Term of Service
Posted 11 years agoThis may get a little long over time, but I want to make my process clear and my terms. Many of these terms are not retroactive because that just wouldn't be fair. Last update: 13AUG2014
1. Do not repost my art, edited or unedited, unless you are the Commissioner and/or Character owner (further known as the Owner) or have the expressed permission of the Owner.
2. You may use my work for reference, but please, no posting tracings of my work.
3. My art work may be resold, but not for a profit (say, if you sell the character).
4. The Owner may request the work file for printing purposes. You may have the file altered and reposted as long as credit is given to me and my watermark is not removed.
5. I will do my best to hold onto PDF files for up to 1 year. I am not responsible for computer failure to keep these files.
6. I reserve the right to post my work to my galleries (with proper credit of the character to the Owner) and use said image for advertising my art.
7. I accept money by paypal only at this time.
On My Queue:
-Send me a note claiming a commission slot if you see one available. They are on my artist description.
-I work my way down unless there are special circumstances. Holds, if passed by, will jump to head of the line once the commissioner decides what they would like. (but I will finish what I'm working on first)
-I will hold a slot for up to 2 weeks.
-I will try to keep an updated ETA on my art above the Queue list.
To Commission me:
Please send me a note including:
1. The type of commission you want.
2. The character you want me to draw, including any references you have
3. A pose, expression and/or angle you might want (or -if artist's choice- general personality of the character)
4. Setting you might want or colors included for a background, if desired.
5. If the commission includes a rough sketch: Do you want to see it to approve, just see it, or be surprised by the final product?
6. If this is for a special occasion, is there a certain time you want it done for (I can't make promises, especially for something within a couple days, but I will do my best) and if so, do I need to wait a while before posting it (to prevent spoiling a surprise)?
