Okay, From Here Til I'm Done...
Posted 9 years ago
I'm in the process of sending high res files now. Thanks for your patience and apologies to anyone I've been abrupt to when asking where their file was.
I probably haven't been but apologies just in case.
I have counted my remaining commissions as of yesterday morning, and I had no idea I'd let it get that bad. That said I'd still appreciate a continuous income, even a tiny one, so here's the plan.
With a counter on my profile keeping me honest I will take 1 commission for every 5 I complete. Those I take on will have to be aware of my wait time as I cannot handle additional disappointed people down my throat. This will also maintain some form of money based motivation as it means the more work I do, the more I can earn, as opposed to now which seems like and endless road of nothingness. The down side to taking payments upfront I suppose.
I'm looking forward to working on so many of the commissions in my queue, especially the new types of commissions I took in July. So I'll be doing my best to work on it and with no holidays, jobs or travel in the near future you've pretty much got all the time Pokemon Go doesn't secure.
Anyway, how I take commissions will vary. I might take one when I need it or work to finish 20 so I can take 4 slots one week or something. We'll see how I go. I'll definitely be taking the pokemon commissions first though :3
That's all the update for now. I have some emails to send!
Full Res Are Coming
Posted 9 years ago
I'm about 3 weeks behind on sending out full res files.
Rest assured I don't remove your commission from trello until I send those out.
I hope to get it done tomorrow but failing that, some time over the weekend.
You know what... screw it...
Posted 9 years ago
Commissions closed until further notice.
Disregard any previous dates given. I'll donate what I have raised when I can.
I just can't handle the deadlines and am having far too much trouble getting things done.
I may work on the 5 - 2 method soon (taking 2 commissions for every 5 I finish) but for now, nothing.
Queue Updated
Posted 9 years ago
Okay I've finally bothered to completely update my queue. Some people may be missing descriptions or refs but so long as your name is there I've got your info stashed elsewhere.
Today is a sketch day so I hope to have a few extra WIPs up by the end of the day.
Commission Opening Pushed Back - August 15th

It's obvious enough why. Sorry again.
Pokemon Commissions Coming Soon
Posted 9 years ago
I almost opened for these yesterday but I still have a lot on my plate. I'll most likely push back commissions opening another two weeks at this rate.
However I'd like expressions of interest for the following:
Pokemon trainer commission:
Cell shaded character image with one Pokemon of choice. Generic I'm a Pokemon trainer pose or interacting with said Pokemon. Super simple bg.
Special price: $80 AUD
Pokemon onsie chibi:
Chibi of your character dressed up as a Pokemon of your choice.
Special price: $40 AUD
I've been dying to draw Pokemon all the time just like I used to but my queue comes first. However I'd like to take these soon so let me know if you're interested and it should drive me to work towards being able to take some :3

A pair of fantastic artists are faced with vet bills and very limited response to their commission. They've put up a collection of adoptables and ych stuff so please check it out, or commission them outright.

And I'm Off
Posted 9 years ago
So as of tomorrow I'll be away for a week. I'll still be working with my surface but due to Pokemon Go overload I won't have enough data on my phone to upload any progress.
I've thrown a bunch of refs and descriptions into my dropbox and kind of hope to have all of them sketched by the time I get back. I may not finish much due to lack of confidence with the surface but I will try to sketch and start as much as possible. If I get better over the week with the whole system I'll do my best to finish at least some small, easy things like chibis, head shots and sketches. My aim at the moment isn't necessarily working in perfect order but rather cutting down the queue as fast as possible, so if you notice I've skipped you please be aware that your place in my queue hasn't shifted, it's just another commission has peaked my interest at the time and that creates faster work.
Another note, I have not updated my queue since I moved house. And I won't be doing it tonight because my brain is mush. This does not mean I have forgotten or ignored your commission.
I have all details needed in a spreadsheet and so long as your refs are where they need to be I'll update everything when I get back.
There will be limited communication over the next week and no, I don't have an estimate on when your commission will be ready. Sorry.
Bai!
Hell of a Week
Posted 9 years ago
So the last week or so has been ridiculous.
I've travelled to and from Melbourne twice for various reasons. I've lost all the water in the tank die to pipe issues. I've dealt with having no water, having brown water and having pipes blocked with sand. And now I finally have a new desk but I have to rearrange my whole study so it all fits in. So yeah, I've got bugger all done. I'll be taking my surface with me when I leave for Queensland on Wednesday, so I'll do my best to get at least some sketches done over the week. These delays were not accounted for when I took on all these commissions and had I known I'd never have taken so many. I'm so sorry to everyone waiting and please let me know if this wait is becoming an issue for you and I'll see if I can at least get a sketch to you sooner. Thanks for the extended patience.
COMMISSIONS CLOSED
Posted 9 years ago
Anyone waiting for their invoice will get it either today or tomorrow. I've got to head into Melbourne both days so bleh.
Otherwise commissions are closed until August first.
Important News - About July Commissions
Posted 9 years ago
So I'm struggling a lot at the moment. No inspiration or motivation to draw.
Work is too slow and I have backlog coming out my ears, so here's what I'll be doing.
Commissions are going to close on July 15th. I am sorry for those who are commissioning me at a later date but I can't pick up my own slack at the moment.
Commissions will re-open August 1st and remain open until August 15th to continue the second half of my charity month. I will be away for a week in the second half of July and with moving house, it's all getting a bit much.
I am so sorry for these delays and changes but it's all I can do to keep myself calm at the moment.
I'm far too distracted, cold and un-interested in my work. I'll do what I can in small doses from here on out.
One final note: EVERYTHING WILL GET DONE! There is no need to panic. I have to update my queue but be aware everyone is on my spreadsheet and accounted for.
So sorry, I will do the best I can and this kind of back log will not happen again.
INTERNET + Chibi YCH
Posted 9 years ago
After being a total connection noob I has internets! The best part is it reaches my study which I was concerned about because this house is F@$%ing huge.
So yeah, I've been a lazy arse today and done minimal drawing, if I can get this room warm tonight I'll do more then. Tomorrow I'll be putting in some solid hours.
Also I still have a chibi YCH buyout thingy up for grabs. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20455627/
Invoices and stuff will be sent out tonight.
*creeps off to town to catch mythical creatures all afternoon*
Nearly Ready
Posted 9 years ago
Presuming Optus get the job done I should be back to full swing tomorrow. I'll try not to let my Pokemon go obsession eat into too much art time, but I've got a super long driveway that's going to be an egg hatching machine.
Goddamn my legs are sore.
*hugs my cubone*
About Applications at the Moment
Posted 9 years ago
I would like to just confirm that I have 4 or so commission applications and a couple of notes I haven't attended to just yet, so if you've sent one of those please don't panic. My computer is still wrapped in a towel while I try to organise the house (didn't manage to get a new desk so I have to re-organise my old set up). With the weekend ahead and my internet scheduled to be set up on Monday I'll be taking the next few days to focus on unpacking so, while I'm happy to continue receiving applications and notes, I probably won't respond/invoice until early next week. I hope to get back to drawing before then however. Tomorrow will be studio set up day :)
Almost Moved In!!
Posted 9 years ago
So a small update for anyone who cares. We got most of our stuff to the new place today. Another trip into Melbourne tomorrow to get some final stuff and go raid ikea for a new desk.
I probably won't have my work area set up for a few days so apologies if I don't get back to anyone on commission applications for a while. Moving is a lot more work than I remember it being.
On the bright side I have, essentially, an entire studio worth of space so I'm going to get a second monitor, microphone and get more involved with traditional work and craft work. Should be an interesting time ahead.
It Begins
Posted 9 years ago
Okay so after a week's worth of delay I'm moving house over the next 3 days. I'll send out all completed commission files today and after that, what I complete I'll have to hold on to until probably next week. It doesn't look like I'll be short of internet for all that long (organised it early) but life will be a little backwards for a while as I get used to my surroundings, living in the country and re-learning how to light an effective fire.
On the bright side I only have 2 commissions left on my overdue queue and I've made a decent start on FurDU commissions. I'm also grateful that you guys have been commissioning bigger stuff rather than a million small things so far so my new queue isn't looking all that daunting just yet. I'll be doing a few more YCH auctions over the coming days (my data can handle uploading them as they're fairly small files) and will continue working when I'm not packing. Thanks for you continuing support.
YES MY COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN STILL!
So long as my profile says they're open then they're open.

Silvixen's Charity Month
Hey everyone, the time has come!
Last year I decided I wanted to create a yearly tradition for myself that actually helps someone. I decided that 10% of my commission earnings for an entire month would go to a chosen charity and predictably, at the end of the month I felt pretty awesome about it. It encourages myself to earn more money in general so not only am I better off for a while but I can help out a worthy cause too. Last year I managed to give over $200 to the Australian Cancer Council. This year my focus is World Wildlife Fund and I would like to try and double that amount!
Before you voice your concerns, this involves no additional effort from you guys beyond commissioning me. The money comes out of my pocket and my pocket alone, I just need you all to hire me as always.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to ask.
If you would like to help out WWF yourself without commissioning me, please visit my Panda Nation page or go to their website to donate.

When we get to Friday
Posted 9 years ago
I know a few of you have expressed concerns about my queue leading up to July opening and probably with good reason. I would like to run by you all the process I have in mind for tackling those commissions and those I take over July.
I've reviewed the types of commissions I have to do in that queue and if I work solidly it should only be 1 month's worth of commissions (Most are head shots and chibis from FurDU). However I am moving house next week so let's make that 1 1/2. This puts us at about mid August before I can begin July commissions. That said, I tend to sketch about 10 commissions at a time and then complete those one by one so I may get sketches out earlier than that. From there on, depending on how many commissions I get in July, I'll be working on a 5/2 method (something I came up with, dunno how original it is though). Basically for every 5 commissions I complete I will take on another 2. This way I have a steady cash flow leading into the end of the year and work is still getting done. Anyone who has a problem with me adding to that queue there's a simple solution, don't commission me until it's smaller. Overall you're better off getting on the queue sooner than waiting for it to shrink.
I've been giving everyone who tags onto the end of my current queue 2 - 3 months estimates because I don't want to overdo it, however, even if my queue triples, depending on what's there I don't see myself being put out for longer than 3 months, and so long as you guys know this, there should be no issue with wait time. Many of us have waited much longer for commissions and I plan to update you all as regularly as I do anyway.
All I ask from you, my fantastic watchers, is patience and understanding. Please know exactly how many people are ahead of you when you commission me in July so that I don't have to explain it to you weeks later if you get upset. Hopefully next year I'll be more organised leading up to FurDU so I don't fall into the same trap.
A Day/Night with Kita COULD BE YOURS!!!!
Posted 9 years ago
This is more of a courtesy journal for anyone who missed the post. If you wanna get a rare opportunity and get a custom commission with my fursona Kita, bidding is open!
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/20390325/
- But your queue is massive!
Yep and it will get much worse before it gets better. This will be put at the top of all July commissions so when I get that far you're top priority. And I'm not one to give up because my queue is too big. So long as you're patient you'll get your art.
- It's pretty expensive at this stage!
Yep, there's some eager beavers out there. But if you look at the quality scale you're getting great value for money. In fact a better deal than if you bought it as a regular commission, especially if you use 2 characters. Although once it starts exceeding $700 you'll just be feeding my ego.
- Why would you need that kind of money?
Rent, bond, extra rent, new furniture... Moving house and stuff.
- Can I team up with someone else so the cost is split?
Yeah you can! I encourage it!!!
Happy bidding!!
July Commissions - Expressions of Interest
Posted 9 years ago
So some shit happened, I stuffed up and now two properties worth of rent will overlap next month... In other words I will need to pay one bond before I get the other one back as well as 2 months worth of rent in the space of about a week. SO, I need to know what I'm in for on the 1st of July because I have a butt load to pay for and I'd really enjoy not touching my savings.
If you plan to commission me in July (preferably those who plan to get in early... like... Friday) can you please indicate what you are going to commission. I don't need descriptions, just commission types/character numbers etc.
I obviously won't get everyone bothering to tell me this but if a few of you could let me know on this journal then I'll know if I need to put up an auction or two over the next couple of days or not.
In case anyone gets all panicky or wants to fling advice at me, I'm not broke, I could cover these costs without earning the amount I need, I'd just prefer not to take any more money out of my savings until I can build it back up to where it was before I bought that surface pro.
THANK YOU!
Pricing Rant
Posted 9 years ago
I've been reading a lot of bitching an moaning about prices lately (not from you lot, just in general) and I have one very blunt thing to say.
ART IS A LUXURY TRADE IN WHICH THE TRADESPEOPLE TAKE YEARS (and often thousands of dollars in education) TO ACQUIRE SKILLS DECENT ENOUGH TO TURN THE HEADS OF YOU PICKY BASTARDS!
IF YOU CAN'T FORK OVER MINIMUM WAGE FOR SOMETHING YOU WANT AND DON'T REALLY NEED FROM ANOTHER HUMAN BEING WHO NEEDS TO SURVIVE, THEN YOU'RE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
I just found an old price sheet of mine from 2012 and guess what, in the years between being a student and becoming a full time artist, the most I've raised a price is by $30 (not including backgrounds, they went up heaps because I just hate doing them in general). Some prices haven't been raised at all and some have gone DOWN! I was told at uni that as a professional designer (or artist... as I ended up being) I should be earning $30 - $50 AUD an hour. My prices are based on $25 per hr and that was what I was advised to charge AS A STUDENT! That's how much value artists put in the opinion of their watchers. Even I have fallen into that trap. I'm afraid to work for more because I feel my art's not worth it because the odd person who gets a quote from me goes "REALLY?" I'm terrified every time I hand out a quote to someone who doesn't know my prices because half the time the reaction I get is far less than "oh that's fair". In fact most don't reply at all. No wonder I see so many growing artists thinking that $5 is fair for a sketch. Artists can obviously set their prices at whatever they like but the sooner we all earn what we deserve, the sooner the little pricks who cry and whine about the cost of hiring a professional, or even a talented hobbyist, will suck it up and start saving. Only other artists seem to tell artists to raise their prices (thanks Mamath!) and we damn well need to start listening to each other.
Now before my absolutely fantastic watchers jump on me and say "I've never done that - your art is worth it - I never complain about pricing" etc. This is not about you at all. This is just me fed up at the things I read around this site and elsewhere. And it is, it's furries. We have no idea what art and craft is worth. Frankly I personally first looked at the prices given by artists like Falvie and Tsaiwolf thinking "that'd only take an hour or two, those prices are ridiculous" but no, commissions aren't just about time, they are about skill, they are custom made every time and each is given focus, care and originality. If we could all hand out the exact same pose and expression to every commissioner, then yeah, charge $10, cause who cares. But we don't, we communicate, we work and we develop so each and every one of you are happy. We learn, we study and we spend money so every day we improve.
Granted some artists are as bad as some clients with this shit, some clients are as gloriously well informed and supportive as some artists. But why aren't we all well informed? Have you ever gone to a gallery, seen a painting for sale and gone "shit, $300 for a giant blodge of paint? That's a bit much..." I honestly bet that less of you have done that than those who get all uppity about forking over $50 for a flat colour drawing, and why? Because our work isn't on a wall. It's not valued by the rest of the art community, because it's targeted to such a tiny niche that it's often unnoticed. So take that on board phantom complainy people. We are here, supporting this community, feeding your fantasies and bringing your characters to life. We COULD be off giving splotchy canvases to art galleries and making millions but we're not. We're here drawing your fluff butts because we enjoy it and we value you. So get off your high horse, put your hand in your wallet, and make sure we can pay rent next month, or go fucking learn how to draw!
Silvixen out.
PS. I'm officially posting WIPs to trello so if you have an artistic freedom piece you wanna see (because I don't send those out) you may well be able to catch a preview.
PPS. This is a result of watching too many Adam Hills rants, mixed with sugar, and then sprinkled with me arguing with too many teenagers.

Marching On
Posted 9 years ago
So I move house in a week...
Work will be slow, July communication may be slow (am being dragged off the QLD for a week... again, but shall take my surface with me).
I'll be packing for the next week and working as well. Following that I don't know how long it will take me to get internet so I may continue working but for the sake of my data I'll be limited in what I upload and send out.
I ask that commissioners during that time keep an eye on my queue to see if your work is complete. However if it is please me patient and don't harass me to send out high res files... I won't have the data to.
I know... it's shit timing with all this stuff I have planned. I'm genuinely tempted to move my Charity month to August but at the risk of upsetting people I won't.
I need the money but my queue is still super long... bare with me guys. I'm trying.

I've been an artist for years but I genuinely struggle with this full time deal. Not even the fact that my savings are dipping gets me going anymore.
Tips and tricks, what gets you going? And not just for art, anything. Something more than just money. I mean yeah I love making art, I just have always been a terrible worker.
Need to stop skating through life but I need a boost. Earn your keep my watchy minions :3
