So....Anthrocon
Posted 2 years agoWith it already being May, Anthrocon 2023 is feeling pretty dang imminent at the end of next month.
I will definitely be attending again this year but I wanted to drop by and gauge interest on somethin.
SO I won't be vendoring or Artist-Alleying, I am just going to attend. HOWEVER. I've done a few badges recently that I just posted here for example and I was wondering if something like that would be of any interest to others who may be going. I don't have a set price in mind yet but they'd be something only available to those attending, to be delivered at the convention.
Here's the ones I've made so far check them out if interested and let me know your thoughts!!

Like my previous opening, I will be accepting three 'shadowbox' style commissions, and four standard type commissions.
Shadowbox commissions are first-come, first-served but unlike the portrait and chibis, these will have approval stages as they progress. These will be closed when all the slots have been claimed. These are SFW only.
Standard type commissions will not be first-come, first-served and the forms will be open for 42 hours, to close at 7pm EST on the 28th, both SFW and NSFW is allowed for these.*
Please keep in mind that I do have preexisting commissions from the previous batch, these are priority over anything new. As of writing this, only one of which has yet to be started but will have that sketched before the forms close this Friday.
Users who are accepted will be contacted directly via email, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message!

Commission (and general) update!
Posted 3 years agoNew years is on the horizon once again (what the heck...) and its so weird that we're already past Christmas. Where has the time gone, it never ceases to amaze me how fast it can go.
I HAVE BEEN SILENTLY working on commissions still, I have gotten through all the the active pre-existing smaller things from before the most recent batch, they really did take me a while. I Will NOT be opening for new commissions for January so that I can continue going through the current queue. I've taken a little bit of a break from doing comm work after the last one to do a more personal projects- Commission work will resume Jan 2nd.
As always I want to further my style and stuff and keep working at it to get it to a place where I'm happier--I know I will probably never be fully satisfied, and that's fine, but I'd like to enjoy it more and fall back in love with art. These past few years have been very unkind and I want to make that better. It's weirdly hard to focus on what makes me happy because there's that reflexive need to appease others with what I create. I've been doing a little better with making personal art again but it could always be better!
ANYWAY that's enough rambling I think, thank you for sticking with me and to new arrivals, welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay and I apologize for my inconsistent upload schedule ahah....

Four slots AT MINIMUM will be available, but depending on what types are requested and how many forms are submitted I will look into maybe taking more.
I do still have a few chibis and portraits remaining from my previous opening. These will remain priority.

Posted 3 years agoOn Thursday (Oct. 27th) I will be opening up for more portrait and chibi commissions. As of right now I have 4 chibis and one larger project remaining from previous openings and will be making more progress on those throughout the week before then so there will be fewer to get through by then!
These will be first-come, first-served, SFW only. On Wednesday I will post another journal that will say what time the opening will be.
Also, I have been struggling a little bit; I would like to take more larger projects again but found that they take me much longer than they used to, especially those featuring multiple characters, but I'm also really hesitant to increase the price on them--which is something I've often struggled with as it is-- So I'm trying to figure out a good balance to I can start offering them again more regularly even if they're still uncommon. Also trying to figure out some additional options for more variety. It is a process. HUAH

Those have been completed, but I still have quite a few from my last opening to get through and I don't want to back it up further by taking more larger projects. So only smaller ones this time! ^^'
BUT They will be first-come, first-served and I will be opening forms tomorrow at 3pm (EST) and they will remain open until slots have filled. 5 will be available.

Commissions opening on Thursday

I posted a few days ago and mentioned in there that I was going to be opening for new things on Wednesday. I am pushing that back by a single day so will now be opening on Thursday the 26th.
I have not yet received much in the way of feedback regarding rates so I'm still working on that while also developing another commission option to offer while still only taking smaller things.
I plan on taking a small number of standard commissions as well, these will not be first-come first-served, though the smaller ones still will be.

General Updates, Next Commission opening, ANTHROCON???
Posted 3 years agoHELLO ITS been a while (Again) since I posted something that wasn't just 'open btw' so gonna blabber for a little bit. Been feeling kinda rough for a really long time. Burnout sort of waxes and wanes as time passes, there's definitely been times where it's not as bad and others where it's crippling. Mental health hasn't been the best for one reason or another and goes terribly hand-in-hand with burnout.
That's pretty much why I'm still heavily limiting commissions to portraits and chibis with the odd exception here and there, but I have noticed the interest in them hasn't been the best and I could probably do to offer more variety while still limiting it. There has been a style I've been kindasorta working on trying to develop to offer as another alternative in addition to those, and I may offer those next time I open. MORE ON THAT IN A BIT.
FURSONA? BIRD????
So when I left my original account I was primarily trying to distance myself from the username, I'd made it in high school and as the time passed I finally wanted to distance myself from it, even though my 'sona hadn't been that character for a while at that point.
Silvyr was meant to just be a mascot but as much as I like the character it just never clicked with me so the username has felt. EH, but I don't want to change accounts again just to change the username, so I'll be sticking with it until some sort of way to change it is implemented but it will be different on pretty much every other site.
Anyone following me on twitter (where I'm admittedly a little more active) will have probably noticed the little gremlin trash bird that I've been doodling often. A crow gryphon! Or dragon. Or just a crow...maybe a raven idk man. I've been a corvid enthusiast for ages and as I worked on this character, it made me really happy and doodling them is very fun. I still love Tessa but have found I just don't click with her as much anymore.

So this is something I've struggled with, I know there are people who would like larger commissions rather than the smaller ones I've been taking but I still really struggle with the majority of large projects these days. I will also admit that a major contributor was to the amount of adult oriented art was doing. I WILL PREFACE THIS BY SAYING I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST IT and enjoy it from time to time and have no plans of permanently stopping it, but it was getting to the point where it felt like I was doing it too much. Whenever I open for standard commissions again I plan on placing more limitations specifically on adult oriented art to help mitigate this issue because I do still want to offer it.
Input here is absolutely welcome, if anyone has any suggestions on that or any other sort of styles you'd like to see.
Also about pricing. I am told that I still charge too little but I find that when I increase it and start giving quotes I get nervous and think to myself 'oh that's too much' because I'm so used to the rates I have. (I have looked at what the approximate hourly rate is, opinion still about the same) And asking does give some mixed results because the value vs quality is so subjective. But still, I'd really like to hear thoughts on my pricing-- Chibi and portrait included but I primarily refer to the more standard commission options. I think I'm most reluctant to charge for backgrounds, I included them without an additional charge at first so I could practice on them, but now that's more of a habit so I end up requesting the absolute minimum listed if a background is desired and tend to put a bit more time into them. WOOPS.
HOWEVER WITH ALL OF THAT, The next planned opening is on May 25th I will most likely still limit it to portraits and chibis, but I will try to have an additional option. MAYBE some normal commissions???? WE SHALL SEE.
LASTLY, ANTHROCON?
YEAH UH. I'm honestly still really skeptical about convention activity given the state of things. Going to be as careful as I can be but Anthrocon is very much planned. First con in...hoooo a while. Maybe meet some people :O
