Posted a month agoi made THIRTY-FOUR pieces of traditional art this month *collapses*.
with two cons and artfight, this summer has been super busy! I learned a lot and experimented with two new mediums (markers and pastels) which I hope to get comfortable with eventually, Lol.
thank you all for your favorites, feedback, and support!
i still have a couple commissions, gifts, and small projects in my queue that i'll be posting over the next couple months. after that, i'll be hunkering down to work on chapter 2 of my comic, which means i'll basically disappear until next summer. i'll still be around checking messages, but don't expect me to post much of anything new.
on an unrelated note, i finally filled out the toyhouse pages for all of my characters, so if you're interested in knowing about Renna's terrible mother or Karo's career change, it's all there!
i'm always down to chat about my OCs. someday five+ years from now when I finish Too Late For Gods, maybe they'll all get a comic of their own.
but that's a story for another day!

I will likely NOT be doing art fight this year unfortunately, I don't want to lose momentum on my comic and doing both the con AND artfight AND continuing to work on pages is just too much I'm afraid. Hopefully I'll be at a better pausing point next year.

I have a few art related updates:
after years of messaging back and forth hashing out commission details, I've created a Google form to streamline the process: https://forms.gle/C5rpUEyJwdCxbUhQ7
instead of updating my commission status in multiple places, the plan is to just toggle the form open and closed depending on whether I am accepting new commissions. hoping this will save both myself and my commissioners time.
if we already chat regularly on telegram, or if you don't have a Google account, you are still welcome to contact me directly for a quote (but the form is strongly preferred otherwise).
i have also updated my price guide. all prices have increased slightly to reflect more confidence in my work and general economic inflation. my reference sheets are the only item that has increased significantly in price; after my most recent ref sheet I realized that i spend WAY more time on ref sheets than I do any other type of commission and I felt my prices should reflect that.
additionally, i do plan on attending fur-eh (edmonton con) this year for the first time since 2019, so hopefully i'll be seeing some of you there :3

commissions closed + new job + life updates

So long as I've been making and posting art online (since...oh jeez...2007?), I have never, to my memory, closed my commissions. Early on, this was simply because I was a beginner (read: terrible) artist, and no one wanted to commission me, lol. But I've improved a lot, especially these past couple years, and I've gotten a steady stream of commissioners, which I'm grateful for. Unfortunately, it's not nearly enough to sustain myself; since I graduated with my M.Sc. in 2019, I've scraped by mostly as a math/science tutor. I could've gotten a better, full time job elsewhere, but I love my city and the people here, and I wanted to stay.
It' s been a rough few years. Several people close to me have died, the pandemic has been and continues to be isolating, and through it all I was making enough money to eat and pay rent but not much else. Income from art helped keep me afloat, but lately my mental health has taken a turn for the worse and it's been difficult to do any hobbies at all, including art. I'm just completely burnt out, and nothing makes me happy. I need a break. But until today I couldn't financially afford to take one.
I was just offered a new, full time job in my field and in my city--the kind of job I've been sitting around waiting to pop up. I'm incredibly relieved to finally have some breathing room financially. I start next month.
This month I'm going to focus on finishing my current queue, and then I am taking a break from commissions, and a break from art in general for a while. I know I'll come back to it--I always have--but when I do I'll probably want to focus on personal art, since for the first time as an adult I will actually have the luxury to do so.
I do plan on taking commissions again--and maybe someday I'll even be good enough to make art my full time job. But I'm not there yet.

i don't feel comfortable creating nsfw (or even non-sexualized, nude) representations of my own body, because i just feel ogled by a cis audience. i don't know if that's ever going to get better.

I have decided to only use invoices via paypal now (i.e. you provide me your paypal email and I send you a bill) because of trouble other artists have had with paypal in the past.
I also made a squarecash so you can pay via debit card (or just give me tips!) at cash.me/$fruitbap ! (I am poor and paying for a 7200$ surgery out of pocket this summer so please consider throwing a spare dollar my way lol)
I'll be moving to Canada in September so I'm going to have to delete both my paypal and squarecash accounts and remake them then, but I will keep all my info the same if possible.

New Tablet - FWA - Thank you!
Posted 9 years agoWell, my tablet kicked the bucket last week but thanks to my commissioners at FWA I was able to purchase a new one today! I got a small Intuos Pro, which is a big step up from my old Graphire 4. I've had that tablet since I was in the 6th grade and I'm a junior in college now, so it certainly had a long and productive life! I'm excited to try the Intuos, though--hopefully it will help me improve my digital work in the coming year.
