Posted 4 months agoSo, here's the baseline. I have a Wacom Intuos Small that I never use; I've touched it three times in the nearly 2 years of having it. I figured that it would be better in someone's hands doing art than just sitting in my drawer. It has like, 2 scratches on the surface, otherwise it's brand new.
I was thinking maybe do a draw-to-win raffle? Each person wanting to enter would draw a piece of art of one of my characters, you get assigned a number, then when the raffle is up I'll do a random number generator. The art can be any skill level and any media, as long as it's obvious that the drawing is of one of my characters. Like, you could just do a simple 5 minute pencil headshot sketch if you wanted.
I figured I would put out some feelers to see how much interest this would get, to see if it'd be worth doing.
Unfortunately I'd have to restrict this to the US only, international shipping is a bitch. ^^;

Posted 7 months agomy mother in law, nadine, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, around 2:55 pm. my husband (her son) and my sister in law (her daughter) and i were in the room with her. she was napping peacefully when she left this world.
we never saw eye to eye on a lot of things but i do have good memories of her. we always loved exchanging recipe ideas and techniques, and talking about animals. when her mental illness wasn't getting the best of her, she was a sweet, caring lady, who deeply loved this earth and the environment and the animals that live here.
she was only 67.
her last few meals were some of her favorite things; pizza, cheese, pepperoni, and pineapple and mushroom. she requested i make the beef stew recipe that was passed down to me. i made that twice for her, and she ate so, so much of it. it was the most she had eaten in over a month. she spent her last two days sleeping peacefully.
nadine, you will be missed.

Emergency flight
Posted 7 months agoWe had to.make a very last second (not even last minute) flight out to see my dying mother in law as she REALLY took a turn for the worst.
We made it out to Ohio in less than 24 hours after we got the call that she was going downhill. She's still lucid and was very shocked to see us, but she's definitely declining by the day. I hope we can stay out here long enough to be with her when she passes but I don't think it'll be financially feasible for us. I mean, this trip in itself wasn't financially feasible for us at all; we pulled some favors and borrowed money ad we are still going to be so in the red for our bills when we get home.
I'm so mentally, physically, and emotionally, exhausted.

Posted 7 months agothe past week or two i really have been struggling with my mental health, my mind has taken a very dark turn, and i'm genuinely scared of myself for some of the thoughts i'm having
i don't want to live like this but i don't want to die
im so tired of everything, and yet i lie awake at night drowning in my own problems that i have no energy to even try to start fixing

Posted 8 months agogot back around midnight thirty this morning, only got to sleep around 2, slept until like. 7. courtesy of shithead cats. i love them and missed then but i just wanted to sleep.
both jake and i caught sicknesses out in ohio and i feel like a garbage fire. head cold and chest cold symptoms rn. just hoping we didnt pass it on to nadine. we wore masks and loaded up on cold medications and stuff
also the cats really decided to go all out on messing the rooms up so we cleaned a bit this morning then took a 4 hour nap.
now im going to make some mac n cheese for dinner then go tf to sleep immediately

Posted 9 months agoon the art front: i have gotten 0 progress done on any commissions, i am ashamed and upset at myself, and i am so so sorry. i'm trying to juggle end of life needs and issues arising left and right, along with trying to clean the house to the point where it's liveable for jake and i instead of hoarded to fuck. ik that's no good excuse and you paid me to draw, and i'm going to try to fulfil all my commissions in the next week or two. i've been neglecting my work for far too long because of stress and family issues. if you'd like a refund i m more than willing to isue one, just let me know and i'll gather up the funds to do so.
so, we've been struggling with getting everything changed over to jake's/his sisters/my names in terms of bills, property, house, cars, etc
we don't know whether or not we'll be able to inherit the house no cost or if we'll have to spend hundreds if not thousands on a lawyer to get our affairs in order

unbeknownst to us (because my MIL is a paranoid schizophrenic who never told us ANYTHING!!!!) we're 5k in debt with the town on back taxes!
there's a compounding late fee as well on it that's literally so expensive that we can't even dream of paying it off!
jake and i went on a very frugal grocery shopping trip yesterday and stopped at our friend Dragon and Sage's house on the way home, bitched about our situation to them, and Dragon offered to help us with the taxes problem. like, he'll pay off our taxes and we can make monthly payments to him with no interest.
we've known the two of them for years and they've been super nice and trustworthy, we're going to get a written agreement penned out some time soon and hopefully get at least that mess sorted out

Posted 10 months agoApologies about the abrupt departure, I am home now though!
My husband and I ended up bringing Nadine out to Ohio very last-minute for christmas at her daughter Danielle's, so she could both meet her grandkids, and we ended up arranging for her to stay there and move out there. There's a great cancer center there in Cleveland and they (Jake, Nadine, and Danielle) wanted a second opinion on treatment; Dartmouth didn't seem to really want to explore any options for her, just palliative care. So she's hopefully going to get some better treatment/opinions out there.
In the 5 days we were there she brightened up considerably and seemed to be doing much better than just sitting aorund the house, depressed. She loves kids so Dani's kids running around and raving about how "Grammy Nadine's living with us!!!!" was really helping her mood. And honestly their home is much better set up for older person care than ours, so it seems we're happy all the way around.
We ended up leaving from a late christmas party around 8:30 last night and drove through the night to get home. I'm running on fumes of car naps but I am so happy to be home in, well....
Jake and I are homeowners now, I guess. We now have control over the house, property, the cars, etc. Very scary thought but also exciting. A lot of this is happening really fast, and I'm struggling to keep up mentally, so please bear with me.

cancer update 2 :(
Posted 10 months agojake and MIL are at DHMC for a checkup on MIL's cancer. so, it isn't treatable. it's literally just End of Life care at this point. :(

Posted 10 months agobeen cleaning like fuck for the past week working on getting at least the living room and kitchen presentable enough that if we need to call 911 for nadine (my mother in law with cancer) then we won't get the house condemned.
i am mentally, physically, and emotionally tapped out right now. today we had to emergency run to hanover to go get nadine more pain medication due to a miscommunication, now she's at risk of having to be carted back to the ER to deal with a bowel blockage, but hopefully what we got her today will prevent that.
i'm so sorry that there's been no progress on commissions, i just have no energy to divert to anything but taking care of my mother in law, cleaning the house, cooking food, trying to play at being a homemaker while also being physically disabled and about to fall apart mentally
i am so exhausted i want to sleep for days straight but we have so much work to do

Posted 10 months agoSo, maybe don't expect much art output from me in the next few weeks... I'll do my best to fulfill the commissions I have in queue but I am mentally and physically exhausted already.
Tuesday night we finally convinced my MIL Nadine (with whom we live with, she owns the house and property) to go to the ER to check out why she was so sick recently.
Turns out she (95% probably) has ovarian cancer, has some huge tumors, and had a partially collapsed lung due to fluid buildup. They drained approximately 2 liters of fluid from her pleural space and abdominal cavity. She feels a little better from that but got sent home last night. We spent nearly 24 hours at the ER with her. I ended up sleeping in the car in 25⁰f weather, Jake didn't get any sleep for about 40 hours straight.
But yeah uh, they can't do anything else for her other than pain management until they get a diagnosis, and that'll be a week to ten days out. How the doctors were talking last night is chemo might help shrink the tumors but not much hope for remission.
I hate asking this, but if anyone would be willing to donate any amount towards helping pay for her pain medication, gas for trips back snd forth to the hospital (about 45 minute drive away), literally any amount would be helpful for all of us.
