Recovered and in the nick of time
Posted 9 years agoThings are much better this month. Health troubles going away, one ear still mostly deaf, the pain and itching is way better. Getting back to normal self is a good thing. Now to get on to better things!
Made a major upgrade! Tired of working on cars, so picked up something less broken. Never thought I'd enjoy a turbo Subaru Forester this much. It will come in handy, driving to BLFC, and across country to AC.
Yep. Going to BLFC, then AC. Tried for a room at RMFC and MFF, but that didn't work out well at all. Who knows where I'll show up the rest of the year, But that's what makes things interesting. I'd love to try some event weekends, maybe a furry camping thing. Might even do some non fur things. Really. It could happen.
On to better things, for all of us!

Things that make you go, oh, shit...
Posted 9 years agoTime for another update.
Things were starting to rock and roll. The new shop is great, attitude improving, things generally looking up. Made a trip to Los Angeles and snagged a bunch of fur. Getting over the past, things improving, going to be great. Then...
Shingles happened. On my face. Not a pretty sight. It also comes with a bonus of hearing loss, and total loss of muscle control on the right side of my head. Been 3 weeks now, and I can only twitch a few places. Feels like fire ants crawling inside my skin. It may take another 3 weeks to regain a portion of what I had back. It could be 6 months, there is a chance it may never really heal. At least I went back to work, I still have a good place to live, and I still have some outstanding friends keeping me going. The down time has had my mind wandering in places it should not. My feelings for the past still bother me to no end. I miss the good times, with a person I should not be missing. I hate myself sometimes, for being so stupid. No good can come from this. But these things are what make up life. Got to take the good with the bad. Got to keep flying...
Suit projects are creeping along. Got to push on as BLFC is coming, and I intend to have a great time. I need hugs, and I need to give hugs. And laughs and all the good things!

Oh, a skunky update!
Posted 9 years agoSo, here we are, close to the end of January 2016. Time to let anyone who might be wondering, what this skunk been up to.
2015 ended in turmoil, and a move of the skunk den. While the new digs are great, great friend/room mate, the reasons are not great, and I'm still having a hard time getting use to the way things are. Really bothered actually. Nuff said about that, life goes on, better things to fret about.
Work is what it is. After several push backs, it's looking like the deal went through, and hopefully in a few weeks, I'll have a new work space! I'm a mechanic at a body/collision shop, and space is tight. It's also tough trying to concentrate on tasks when there is sanding/bondo dust EVERYWHERE! This new space gets me away from way too much dust. I really want things to work here, but by the end of summer, I will re-evaluate the situation.
I've not been in suit for several months now, passed up several opportunities. SK is getting a bit wore out, and I'm just not feeling it. I am in the pre-building stages of SKv2. Also have this otter head that's ready for fur, and the fur to build a nice full on otter suit for myself! I'm also getting my otter plush "test otter" done. If the pattern proves itself, there could be several made, maybe some available for other otterly inclined folks. There is also a white tiger in the works for a friend, as well as some squirrel action that is going to happen this year, for another friend. Lately I've been getting my groove back, it's feeling good to create!
Con list for this year is BLFC in May, AC in June. The rest will have to wait.
Thanks again to all those that have been thinking of me. I have some really awesome friends, that put up with my stinky attitude.
TL/DR I'm still alive and kicking!

RMFC recap, and more! I has a twitter account now!
Posted 10 years agoRMFC was a time. Would have been nice, if my body and mind would have been in a better place. I'm a stubborn skunk with a thick head, sometimes I upset myself when I'm reminded of what I don't have. Sorry to anyone that was put off by my crazy skunking.
I did have some good times, the adult fursuit charades is always a good time thanks to the hosts for letting us have some crazy fun! Visiting with old friends, making new ones is something I do enjoy. Thanks to those that hung out a bit. Saturday night got really drunk out. Seems the theme was cats this year, roomed with two good ones. Thanks Tox and Lazer! Thanks to the other kitties I got to visit with too! Just watch out, don't rub under any freshly whitewashed fences, stripe your backs. Ya might have to fight off a frisky skunk.
The trip to Denver, and back to Utah was great fun as well. Did some camping, and explored some abandoned mines. I do love a road trip!
I still need a great convention. My biggest problem is, I always seem to get out of step with the con flow. Having a group to hang with, is wonderful. Wandering about solo is lame after a bit. One problem with RMFC, there were a number folks I love hanging out with, that did not attend this year. Reality is a bastard sometimes.
The next con will be Furry Unlocked, in Salt Lake City, UT. October 30th to November 1st. It will be a fun con, and really close to home. As in I can ride my bicycle. I really want to attend MFF, (looking for a room spot "wink, wink, nudge, nudge") and visit family in Kentucky. I do hope it can happen. After that, BLFC 2016, and hopefully AC 2016.
I also got hit with the name crap again on Facebook. I might try again, but for now, I have opened a Twitter. Get in touch SKSKUNK52

RMFC 2015 GOING! If I can find a room!
Posted 10 years agoI'm in! Now I need a room slot! If any one would like a drinking skunk in the room, I could use a bed, or at least 1/2 of a bed. Thursday night to Monday morning. Clean and somewhat respectful. I also like hugs. ;)
BLFC Yea, I'll be there...
Posted 10 years agoTime to get back into the game! There will be fur, swimming, drinking, wandering about, and hugging anyone that wants skunk hugs!
Arriving on Thursday afternoon, leaving on Monday.
Rooming with a Folf, and a Lombax. Not really a party room, but there will be some hanging out.
I love hugs. Just give me the international sign that you want hugs. You will then receive hugs! No pouncing please, I'm a skunk. Don't startle the skunk!
You want more than hugs? It could happen. Not into anything really crazy, but it could happen. ;)
I would love to attend room parties, just let me know. I enjoy just hanging out, chatting about whatever.
I don't like to plan meals and such, if you would like to grab a bite, just let me know.
I don't drink any more, I also don't drink any less. ;) Beer, rum and water, sea breezes are my con drinks. Don't over fill the skunk, unless you really want to have a crazy skunk on your hands.
I will be bringing a sewing kit, and supplies for repairs. If you are in need of repairs, I'd be happy to try and help out!
I will likely go to the dances, if you want to dance, show up at the dance, and start dancing! I mostly flail about, don't laugh too hard!
Anything else? Just ask! It's time to have as much fun as possible, anything I can do to add to that fun, it would be my pleasure!

I caved!
Posted 10 years agoI had to go back to the electronic heroin that is Facebook. I was missing having contact with so many people. I used to be fine without constant contact, but going "cold turkey" was killing me inside.
I started fresh, note friend requests to Sk Skunk if you wish to join me in my madness!

Non furry vacation???
Posted 10 years agoBlasphemy! But not really.
I was thinking about attending TFF, then I got a nice offer from a kangaroo friend, to go to a motorcycle show in Portland, OR! This will be the one of the first non-con, out of town events I've been to in quite a time. While I'm still new to the motorcycle thing, The One Show in Portland should be interesting. I don't really care for the bling, dressed up style of bikes that have been so common in the last number of years. I do like the idea of "naked" bikes, cafe style, and the1moto.com show should fill the bill! Been a long time since my last visit to Portland, it will be a big change from the Salt Lake City blues I have been in.
Also, cross country road trip with a kangaroo. :3

FC and other ramblings
Posted 10 years agoI won't be making FC this year, but one of these years... I do want to wish everyone safe travels, and the best of times!
As for other cons, I'm thinking of giving Texas Furry Fiesta a try. Problem is, not enough folks I know, that can go, to plan a room on my own. If anyone has openings for a drunk skunk, (a clean, nice one, but I do like a drink or several) I would be interested. I don't mind sharing beds, have one full suit, not looking for a wild party room. But I do like having fun, also drinks. ;) Would be getting there on Thursday, leaving Monday.
I'm also likely going to BLFC in Reno. Those plans are getting set, so no worries there! There will likely be a RMFC, Unthrocon, the con in Salt Lake City, maybe MFF. If things don't fall completely apart. :p Might even sneak a few others in if I win the lottery!
Again, be safe, have a great time at FC2015! *skunk hugs*

Merry whatevers!
Posted 10 years agoTo all my friends, good, bad, indifferent, I wish everyone the best. *Skunk hugs* to all!
Hopefully the good things keep on going, and the tough things soften up a bit. There is a new year coming, it's a good time to shed the stale fur and push onward to better things.
Now, if I can only listen to my own advice, claw my way out of this hole I've gotten too comfortable with. Hugs and snuggles are much better than cold dirt any day. ;)

Unthrocon 2014!
Posted 11 years agoBack from Unthrocon, the little con, with a big heart, in Utah. Had a good time, met some awesome, friendly people. It was great to hang with some old friends too. There was a number of folks that came quite a way, adding to the wonderful time.
Big thanks and skunk hugs to all the staff, volunteers, who made this thing work. Special thanks to all the vendors that came with some great stuff for everyone to buy!
There were a bit over 200 people that came for the fun, almost doubling the number of people from last year. All this from humble beginnings, as a house party for people that could not go to Anthrocon. Small steps, leading to bigger and better things. It will never be as big as the "Giant" cons, and that is just fine. I'll look forward to next year, and having even more fun!

Well, that was different.
Posted 11 years agoDecided Facebook is not a good place for this skunk, deactivated my account. My favorite part of the process, was the "Are you sure" page, with the icons of the folks I chat with the most, or the longest. If FB changes the status of posted names, I'd consider reactivating.
The added bonus, I now have more time! Going to need it too, time for more suit building. There are some otters in the works, and it might be time for a new SK. Maybe a deer thrown in for good measure.

Made it to AC!
Posted 11 years agoHad some car troubles, fixed by swapping out vehicles after driving 90 minutes out of town. Unfortunately, my friends luggage and fursuit have been lost, found, then lost again by American Airlines. It's maddening to say the least.
Staying at the Westin, If you see a skunk, ask for hugs, receive hugs. It's just that easy! Drinks and back rubs are welcome too!

Oh, what a difference a year and a half makes, also AC!
Posted 11 years agoI should do this more often, there's been a bunch of things. Still in Salt Lake City, UT. Doing well for an old skunk. Cool place to live, fur room for building things, and an awesome friend to hang with.
That great job I found, turn into a mess. Got canned 6 months after I was hired, the company made major planning mistakes, and ended up letting several people go. Oh well, I happened to stumble stumble across a friend, and got another job as a mechanic in a body shop. It's been an interesting year. Working on cars now, is way different than in the 1980s. At least I'm working.
Sold the house in Colorado, was able to walk away with my bills paid, bought a motorcycle. I do miss Colorado, Utah is a bit different. I don't know how long I will be staying in SLC. I'm looking for something/someplace/someone/also not UTAH. But then again, I may be dreaming of something that does not exist, and overlooking the treasures that are here. Decisions and choices are to be made, hopefully for the better.
Then there is AC. I'LL BE THERE! A friend made me a crazy awesome offer, so I'm driving to Pittsburgh. There will be skunk hugs for everyone! Just make the international sign for hugs, and you get hugs! Adult beverages will also cause hugging to commence.

Great news today!
Posted 13 years agoI was accepted for the job I was wanting to get. Good pay, benefits, nice place to work. Unless something unforeseen crops up, I will report on Monday the 29th for my first day! I basically stumbled on this. So many have been having trouble finding work, let alone a good job. I consider myself really lucky. Now the hard part, I must be able to do good work, and keep the job!
It will be a big change of pace for me. I have been mostly self employed for a very long time. Punching a clock will take a bit to get used to. But it will be worth it. This is a small company, most of the workers have been there for over 10 years, some for over 20. The job itself will not be too bad, assembling small parts and running an injection molding machine. There are plenty of other places I can be of use to the company as well.
I will also be able to attend fur meets at least twice a month, and in 6 months, can start to use accrued vacation time! Might even be able to make it to Anthrocon this year!

Good morning Utah!
Posted 13 years agoAfter a marathon session of cleaning this past weekend, I have turned over my Colorado house to the new tenants. They both seem like cool people, both do art, kind of quirky. I had my suit out while packing, they were moving stuff in. There were really cool about it, think it's awesome they have a furry for a landlord.
I'm now in Salt Lake City, Utah. Had my first job interview yesterday. It would be an interesting job, assembling robotic prosthesis. There are several areas where I could work within the company, great benefits package, accrued flexible time off, good pay right out of the box. It would be going to work, sitting at a bench for hours on end, day after day, doing a ton of miniature, mechanical assembly. It has been years since I have operated a bench for a living. While part of me would really like the job, after sleeping on it, I have to wonder if I can adapt to a job where there are no windows, hours of monotony. Been working outside, or in shops, in dynamic situations, for so long
The job market seems to be in reasonable shape here. This was my first application in 18 months, and I consider it a really strong positive that I was considered. I want work that can last, but part of me says don't just take the first thing that comes around. Then again, this would be a really good job. It's a good problem to have!

Time for a skunky update!
Posted 13 years agoFor starters, a dreaded point in my life has arrived. I have turned 50. I am 1/2 of a century old. The good part is, aside from more grey hair, and the hair that is not gray falling out, I'm doing rather good! In large part, I have furry to thank for that. The friends, and the different outlook on life, has likely saved me from being a rather bitter old man. In some ways, I have never been looking forward to so much. For all of life's troubles, there is a way to rise above it all. For me, that means to keep on skunking!
Big changes around the house! I have secured renters for the house in Colorado, and will be relocating to Salt Lake City, Utah! Why the hell would anyone want to go to Utah? Well, jobs and furrys. It's also not back East. After spending a good part of the last year back east, I cannot stand the humidity. There is also a big group of furs in Utah, and a few of them can actually stand me being around. *Skunky hugs to all of them* The renters will be in my house for 6 months, so if things don't work out, I could move back. I do like it here, but the job thing stinks. I plan to put the house on the market in the spring, or find other renters.
I do want to continue to visit my old stomping grounds, go to cons east of the Mississippi river. There are a bunch of awesome people out there, and I would love to get to know more of you! One never knows where this skunk will show up, and when I do, your gonna get hugged!

New convention in Utah! Western Anthro Rendezvous
Posted 13 years agohttp://warendezvous.org/
Another convention in the works! May 24th to 26th, in Layton Utah. Just outside of Salt Lake City. I have been hanging around the furry community around SLC and I find them to be a bunch of fun, awesome, people!

Going postal!
Posted 13 years agoHad a bit of fun at the Post Office today. I shipped out Grizztof Grunwalds DTD to Don't Hug Cacti.
First, I had to explain the name "Yes, that is the name of a company. Don't Hug Cacti, they build hand made costumes." Someone in the line then stated, " Well! Now we can't hug cacti, can't have any fun!" I followed with, "Well, the end result of what's in this box, will be much more fun to hug than cacti!"
Then I had a bit more explaining to do. Fursuits, the duct tape dummy, the process of building suits. "This will be turned into a 6'+tall anthropomorphic dog, his name is Grizztof." Then more questions. Keep in mind, I'm at the counter of a post office, people are there to do postal things. More questions. I mentioned the art, entertaining people, going to parks, visiting hospitals, generally going out, making people forget about the troubles of the day. I added, "I have a full skunk suit myself, I even have a tail" then I waved my skunk tail key chain. The counter staff all had a good laugh, so did the people waiting in line.
With just a bit of talking, I took the drudgery of an afternoon at the post office, turned it into a small happy moment. This is why I love doing what we do!

Skunk on the road... to CalFur!!!
Posted 13 years agoJust registered for Calfur. My last con was MFF, and it's been way too long. I can't wait to see some old friends, as well as make plenty of new ones.
For the record:
I do drink. Rum and water, or a beer or 4.
I like hugs. Just don't pounce or otherwise surprise the skunk. I have been known to spray!
I will be in a quiet and laid back room. So no crazy partying in my room, got to respect my roomies.
I'm not a really wild & crazy fur, but I don't mind having a good time either. I would not mind hanging out to odd hours, enjoying an adult beverage, some hugs and snuggles would not be a problem at all. Beyond that, ;)
I'll be driving from my home in Colorado, if anyone sees a skunk plushy waving old guy on I-70/I-15 wave back!
Got any questions? I have no clue if I can answer them, but I'll happy to try!

Sk is on the move!
Posted 13 years agoWell, my misadventures of trying to live, help out family, is about to come to a close. As I have said before, I'm a fixer of things. Some things just can't be fixed. I'm hitting the road in the morning, Sunday the 5th. Should be back in my own bed, in Grand Junction, by Monday night.
I'm sure I'll return, as there is much unfinished business out here. There are also a bunch of cons out this way that I'd still like to attend. FWA, FCN, AC, MFM were on my list. Some could still happen, it will just be on a last minute basis. I do wish I could have been able to hang with more furs out this way. There are some I met at MFF I really want to spend some time with, but the West is calling.
Or it that just the echos from my screaming, trying to get away from family? LOL
Then there's my friends out West, that I miss so damn much. Hopefully I'll be able to get to some meets in GJ, and in Utah. Really soon.
Skunky huggles to all! Extra tight huggles to a few! Skunk spray to the difficulties of life!
*UPDATE* Made it home safe and sound. Actually in better shape than when I left!

Home from MFF
Posted 14 years agoWhat a weekend! Had a great time with some great friends. My only regret was not spending more time hanging out. One of the things I like about conventions, is getting to sit around, talking about all sorts of stuff, with different people. I didn't even make it up to the party floor. I am still new to this, making new friends as I go. Next con, it's time to get a bit more adventurous.
I did get to spend quite a bit of time in suit. Likely doubled my total time in suit. I need to get in better shape. It also looks like I need to do some work on my foot paws, and a few minor adjustments on the head.
Don't know which con will be the next. I'd go to them all if I could. There will be more, as long as this skunk keeps on waking up, on a regular basis.

MFF, and other skunky things
Posted 14 years agoLooks like everything is a go for MFF! Looking forward to hanging out with some old friends, making plenty of new ones. Oh, plenty of suit time too!
I'm good with hugs, and cuddles, just don't surprise the skunk. It's never a good idea to surprise a skunk!
Along with the con, I'm in process of moving from Grand Junction, CO. My new, but hopefully temporary den will be in Radcliff, KY. I'll also be spending the next few months in Northern Georgia, working on a house project for family. When my projects are complete, where I'll end up, is up in the air. It depends on if I sell or rent out the house in GJ, and where I can find work.
I'd love to return to the West. Other than the dryness and the open spaces, I'm going to miss the fantastic furs around the Salt Lake City region. These critters have welcomed me into there meets, homes, and hearts, beyond anything I could have dreamed. I'll always hold the lot of you in a special place in my heart! You never know where this skunk will wander. You will likely be seeing me again!
So it's on with the packing and scrubbing. There is a another journey to take, and plenty of furs to huggle!

New, old skunk
Posted 14 years agoAfter an outstanding RMFC, I thought I should go ahead and set up an account.
So I did. Now I have no clue of what to put in here.
So, may as well babble about myself.
I am Sk Skunk.
48, male, single, open about many things, stubborn about others, bla bla bla. Electronics tech, mechanic, a fixer of things. I have cleaned floors, rebuilt engines, designed equipment, owned businesses, hired/fired employees, cleaned and inspected sewers, flown my own antique airplane, lost businesses, built my own fursuit. I have been told I'm a good cook, and sometimes I can be a decent person. I can also be set in my ways, and a bit dense in matters of relationships. I have a shy streak a mile wide.
After being a normal (boring) person for many years, I happened to come across an old CSI episode. Having a long time fascination with fursuits,(was the mascot in high school twice) I poked around and found the furry fandom. What a strange 2 years it has been. Almost a year ago, I started to plan, buy supplies for my fursuit. RMFC 2011 was my first convention. It will not be my last.
Finding furry, opening my heart and mind to something so ridiculous, has changed me in so many ways. Yea, I know, It's just a hobby, right? Who would have thought people drawing or writing about anthropomorphic animals, or running around as an animal, could bring one closer to humanity.
Hugs are good, friends are better, good friends are priceless. My goal is to have fun, help people smile, make a ton of friends, and maybe find some good friends along the way.
Any questions? Ask away.
Skunky hugs for all who want them!
